Abstract
PROBLEM Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is characterized by the clinical manifestation of vascular thrombosis (VT) or pregnancy morbidity (PM) and antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) that can modify the nitric oxide production. Low-dose aspirin is used in the prevention and treatment of diverse alterations of pregnancy. One of the mechanisms of action of aspirin is to induce the production of aspirin-triggered-lipoxins (ATL). The aim of this study was to evaluate the modulatory effect of ATL over the activation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) and nitrosative stress biomarkers induced by aPL. METHODS We used polyclonal IgG and sera from women with aPL and PM/VT or VT only, and from women with PM only and positive for non-criteria aPL (SN-OAPS). In these sera, biomarkers of nitrosative stress (nitrites and nitrotyrosine) were measured. The protein expression of nitrotyrosine and the phosphorylation of eNOS (at Ser1177) were estimated in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) stimulated with polyclonal IgG with or without ATL. RESULTS Women with SN-OAPS showed increased circulating levels of nitrites and nitrotyrosine. Likewise, polyclonal IgG from either SN-OAPS or VT patients stimulated nitrotyrosine expression in HUVECs. ATL decreased the nitrotyrosine expression induced by polyclonal IgG from the SN-OAPS group. ATL also recovered the reduced eNOS phosphorylation at Ser1177 in HUVECs stimulated with polyclonal IgG from women with PM/VT or SN-OAPS. CONCLUSIONS Increased nitrosative stress present in serum of women with SN-OAPS is associated with IgG-mediated impaired endothelial NO synthesis in endothelial cells. ATL prevent these cellular changes.

Abstract
We aimed to determine prevalence and characteristics of anticardiolipin antibodies (ACLs) and its correlations with laboratory coagulation variables in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). We retrospectively analyzed the prevalence of serum ACLs and its correlation with coagulative laboratory variables in 87 patients with COVID-19. ACLs were detected in 13/21 (61.91%) critically ill patients, and 21/66 (31.82%) in non-critically ill patients. For ACLs, IgA, and IgG were the most common types. The prevalence of IgG in critical ill patients was much higher than that in non-critical patients with odd ratio = 2.721. And the levels of all isotypes of ACLs in critically ill patients were much higher than those in non-critically ill patients. Correlation analysis showed that activated partial thromboplastin time and thrombin time had weak correlation with ACLs-IgG (R = 0.308, P = .031; R = 0.337, P = .018, respectively). Only the prevalence of ACLs-IgG shows a significant difference when compared critically ill patients with non-critically ill patients. ACLs do not seem to have a clear correlation with thrombosis occurred in COVID-19 patients.

Abstract
Antiphospholipid syndrome is one of the more common acquired causes of hypercoagulability. Its major presentations are thrombotic (arterial, venous, or microvascular) and pregnancy morbidity (miscarriages, late intrauterine fetal demise, and severe pre-eclampsia). Classification criteria include 3 different antiphospholipid antibodies: lupus anticoagulant, anticardiolipin, and anti-beta 2 glycoprotein I. Management includes both preventive strategies (low-dose aspirin, hydroxychloroquine) and long-term anticoagulation after thrombosis.

Abstract
Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune disease characterized by venous thromboembolism, arterial thrombosis, and obstetric morbidities in the setting of persistently positive levels of antiphospholipid antibodies measured on 2 different occasions 12 weeks apart. Patients with APS are at increased risk for accelerated atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, stroke, and valvular heart disease. Vascular endothelial cell dysfunction mediated by antiphospholipid antibodies and subsequent complement system activation play a cardinal role in APS pathogenesis. Improved understanding of their pathogenic function could help in the risk stratification of patients with APS and provide new molecular therapeutic targets.

Abstract
Aspirin is one of the most frequently used and cheapest drugs in medicine. It belongs to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs with a wide range of pharmacological activities, including analgesic, antipyretic, and antiplatelet properties. Currently, it is accepted to prescribe a low dose of aspirin to pregnant women who are at high risk of preeclampsia (PE) because it reduces the onset of this complication. Another pregnancy alteration in which a low dose of aspirin is recommended is the obstetric antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). The most recognized mechanism of action of aspirin is to inhibit the synthesis of prostaglandins but this by itself does not explain the repertoire of anti-inflammatory effects of aspirin. Later, another mechanism was described: the induction of the production of aspirin-triggered lipoxins (ATLs) from arachidonic acid by acetylation of the enzyme cyclooxygenase-2. The availability of a stable analog of ATL has stimulated investigations on the use of this analog and it has been found that, similar to endogenously produced lipoxins, ATL resolves inflammation and acts as antioxidant and immunomodulator. If we consider that in PE and in the obstetric APS, there is an underlying inflammatory process, aspirin might be used based on the induction of ATL. The objective of this review is to revisit the old and new mechanisms of action of aspirin. In particular, it intends to show other potential uses of this drug to prevent certain pregnancy complications in the light of its ability to induce anti-inflammatory and pro-resolving lipid-derived mediators.

Abstract
A 52-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with a spontaneous esophageal rupture (Boerhaave syndrome) and was successfully treated. Eight years after the first incident, he was readmitted with a recurrent rupture. Recurrence of Boerhaave syndrome is extremely rare, with only 7 cases reported in the English literature. During treatment, the patient was also diagnosed with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). Although APS is known to cause a variety of symptoms due to vascular thrombosis, recurrence of Boerhaave syndrome, coincident with APS, has never been reported. The pathogenesis of Boerhaave syndrome has not been clearly determined. This report serves to increase awareness of the risk of APS, which results in an increased risk of spontaneous rupture of the esophagus.

Abstract
The antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is characterized by recurrent vascular thrombosis, thrombocytopenia, and fetal loss occurring in the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL). Along with arterial and venous thrombosis and pregnancy complications, patients with APS have an increased risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and coronary artery disease, resulting from vascular cell dysfunction induced by aPL. Accumulating evidence to date indicates that interactions between circulating aPL and cell surface molecules of target cells, primarily endothelial cells and platelets, underlie the vascular disease phenotypes of APS. However, the molecular basis of APS is poorly understood. Nitric oxide produced by endothelial cells is a key determinant of vascular health that regulates several physiologic processes, including thrombosis, endothelial-leukocyte interaction, vascular cell migration, and the modulation of vascular tone. This review will discuss recent findings that indicate a novel mechanism by which aPL antagonize endothelial cell production of nitric oxide and thereby promote thrombosis.
