Abstract
Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory gynecological condition affecting 10-15% of women in the reproductive age group. The urinary tract is the second most common extragenital organ system affected by endometriosis, and the urinary bladder and ureter are the two most common sites involved. Involvement of the urinary bladder can cause chronic debilitating symptoms, whereas ureteral involvement may lead to asymptomatic loss of renal function. Both conditions are frequently unsuspected, leading to a delay in diagnosis. Therefore, it is important to recognize this entity early, for which knowledge of imaging appearances and techniques is helpful. In this review article, we describe (a) endometriosis background, pathogenesis, definitions and clinical symptoms, (b) imaging appearance, with emphasis on ultrasound and MRI findings of urinary bladder and ureteric endometriosis, (c) ultrasound technique and MRI sequences useful for making the correct diagnosis, (d) overview of the treatment options and key imaging findings that are important to the surgeon for surgical planning, and (e) a structured reporting template useful for multidisciplinary patient management.

Abstract
Although endometriosis is a common gynecological condition in women of reproductive age, a complication of endometriosis is rarely considered as the differential diagnosis of acute abdominal pain in that context. However, acute events in women with endometriosis can represent life-threatening conditions, which require emergent treatment and often surgical management. Mass effect of endometriotic implants can give rise to obstructive complications, specifically occurring in the bowel or in the urinary tract, while inflammatory mediators released by ectopic endometrial tissue can lead to inflammation of the surrounding tissues or to superinfection of the endometriotic implants. Magnetic resonance imaging is the best imaging modality to reach the diagnosis of endometriosis, but an accurate diagnosis is possible on computed tomography, especially in the presence of stellar, mildly enhanced, infiltrative lesions in suggestive areas. The aim of this pictorial review is to provide an image-based overview of key findings for the diagnosis of acute abdominal complications of endometriosis.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this consensus article was to develop guidelines by a focused panel of experts to elaborate a lexicon of image interpretation, and a standardized region-based reporting of deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MATERIALS AND METHODS Evidence-based data and expert opinion were combined using the RAND-UCLA Appropriateness Method to attain consensus guidelines. Experts scoring of pelvic compartment delineation and reporting template were collected; responses were analyzed and classified as "RECOMMENDED" versus "NOT RECOMMENDED" (when ≥ 80% consensus among experts) or uncertain (when < 80% consensus among experts). RESULTS Consensus regarding pelvic compartment delineation and DIE reporting was attained using the RAND-UCLA Appropriateness Method. The pelvis was divided in nine compartments and extrapelvic lesions were assigned to an additional (tenth) compartment. A consensus was also reached for each structure attributed to a compartment and each reporting template item among the experts. No consensus was reached for a normal aspect of uterosacral ligament, but a consensus was reached for an unequivocal involvement leading to a positive diagnosis and an equivocal involvement leading to uncertain diagnosis. Tailored MRI lexicon and standardized region-based report were proposed. CONCLUSION These consensus recommendations should be used as a guide for DIE reporting and staging with MRI. Standardized MRI compartment-based structured reporting is recommended to enable consistent accuracy and help select the best therapeutic approach.

Abstract
In recent years, due to the development of standardized diagnostic protocols associated with an improvement in the associated technology, the diagnosis of pelvic endometriosis using imaging is becoming a reality. In particular, transvaginal ultrasound and magnetic resonance are today the two imaging techniques that can accurately identify the majority of the phenotypes of endometriosis. This review focuses not only on these most common imaging modalities but also on some additional radiological techniques that were proposed for rectosigmoid colon endometriosis, such as double-contrast barium enema, rectal endoscopic ultrasonography, multidetector computed tomography enema, computed tomography colonography and positron emission tomography-computed tomography with 16α-[18F]fluoro-17β-estradiol.

Abstract
Ureteral endometriosis is a very rare but serious form of infiltrating endometriosis since the risk of urinary tract obstruction and secondary loss of renal function exists. Although not always possible, the clinical and radiologic assessment may help in obtaining a preoperative diagnosis. We report the case of a 42-year-old woman with left ureteral endometriosis, revealed by left flank pain. Imaging revealed left obstructive uropathy with an endometriotic cyst of the left ovary and a spiculated lesion of the left parametrium. She underwent laparotomy, resection of the diseased ureter with primary re-anastomosis, resection of a left parametrial lesion and an endometriotic left ovarian cystectomy. The pathological assessment confirmed the diagnosis of ureteral endometriosis. Follow-up of the patient showed complete resolution with a stable, normal kidney function. In conclusion, ureteral endometriosis involvement is infrequent but should be included in the differential diagnosis in a premenopausal woman with ureteral obstruction of unknown cause. An early diagnosis and obstruction relief are critical to a successful outcome.

Accuracy of transvaginal ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging for diagnosis of deep endometriosis in bladder and ureter: a meta-analysis. J OBSTET GYNAECOL 2022; 42:2272-2281. Abstract
This meta-analysis aimed to determine the accuracy of transvaginal ultrasound (TVS) and pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in diagnosing urinary tract endometriosis (UTE). A comprehensive search of the Pubmed and Embase was conducted between January 1989 and June 2020. Studies that described the accuracy of MRI or TVS for the diagnosis of UTE using surgical data as the reference standard were included. Of the 913 citations identified, 23 studies were analysed. For detection of endometriosis in bladder endometriosis (BE), the overall pooled sensitivities of TVS and MRI were 72% and 68% respectively, and their specificities were 99% and 100% respectively. For detection of endometriosis in the ureteral endometriosis (UE), the overall pooled sensitivities of TVS and MRI were 97% and 87% respectively, and their specificities were both 100%. In conclusion, both TVS and MRI provide good accuracy with specific strong points in diagnosing UTE and seem useful first-line methods from a clinical perspective. Besides, pelvic MRI and TVS are more accurate for predicting UTE localised in the ureter than bladder, especially in terms of sensitivity.IMPACT STATEMENTWhat is already known on this subject? Previous studies have confirmed high diagnostic value of transvaginal ultrasound (TVS) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) on bladder endometriosis (BE) respectively. However, high heterogeneity was found for both sensitivity and specificity and no meta-analysis has yet been performed to test the diagnostic value of TVS and MRI for ureteral endometriosis (UE).What the results of this study add? In this meta-analysis, we firstly confirmed high diagnostic value of TVS and MRI on UE respectively. For detection of UE, the overall pooled sensitivities of TVS and MRI were 97% and 87% respectively, and their specificities were both 100%.What the implications are of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? Early preoperative diagnosis and accurate understanding of the widespread distribution of endometriosis are prerequisites for radical surgical in UTE. In the present study, we updated the previous results on the accuracy of TVS and MRI for the diagnosis of BE and firstly confirmed high diagnostic value of TVS and MRI on UE. Both TVS and MRI provide good accuracy with specific strong points in diagnosing UTE and seem useful first-line methods from a clinical perspective.

Abstract
STUDY OBJECTIVE To investigate the short-term outcomes of laparoscopic ureteroneocystostomy in patients with ureteral endometriosis (UE). DESIGN Retrospective cohort study of consecutive patients who underwent surgery for the ureter endometriosis with hydronephrosis. SETTING A private hospital that provide primary, secondary and tertiary care. PATIENTS 30 consecutive patients with UE who underwent laparoscopic ureteroneocystostomy at our institution between May 2008 and April 2020. INTERVENTIONS Laparoscopic ureteroneocystostomy, if necessary, hysterectomy, salpingo-oophorectomy, cystectomy, partial bladder resection, or partial bowel resection were performed. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS The most common chief complaint was pelvic pain (40%). Endometriosis affected only the left ureter in 56.7% of patients, only the right ureter in 33.3%, and both ureters in 6.7%. Involvement of the ipsilateral ovary was confirmed in 64.3%. The most frequent location of UE was 1-3 cm above the UVJ (46.7%). A psoas hitch was performed in 7 patients (23.3%), and the Boari flap was used in 9 patients (30%). Hysterectomy was performed in 12 patients (40%), and 6 of them had a concomitant bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (20%). In addition, 3 patients (10%) underwent partial bowel resection, and 2 patients (6.7%) underwent partial bladder resection. After surgery, 24 of 27 patients (80.0%) were free of sever hydronephrosis after surgery. Hydronephrosis recurred in a single patient (3.3%), but the grade of hydronephrosis improved significantly after surgery (P < 0.001). At 6 months of follow up, 4 patients (13.3%) experienced urinary tract infections and 2 patients (6.7%) reported dysuria. Patients reported a regression of dysmenorrhea symptoms (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION This study shows that ureteroneocystostomy provides good results in terms of relapses and symptom control in patients with ureteral endometriosis.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects approximately 10%-15% of women of childbearing age. Laparoscopic surgery is the preferred surgical approach. Recently, robotic surgery has been used for benign gynecologic surgery, but its role in the treatment of endometriosis is still unknown. AREAS COVERED We included studies that evaluated the outcomes of robotic surgery for endometriosis. Using the keywords 'endometriosis' and 'robotics', a comprehensive literature search on PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library was performed in July 2021. EXPERT OPINION Robotic surgery for endometriosis has similar outcomes as conventional laparoscopy, with no evidence of increased complication rates. Despite the non-inferiority of the surgical route, the associated costs of robotic surgery limit its availability. Rapid development of robot-assisted surgery necessitates long-term prospective randomized controlled trials. However, the limitations of robotic surgery should not be overlooked. If robotic surgery can facilitate the spread of minimally invasive surgery, it will be necessary to evaluate the cost, availability, complexity of the lesions, and most importantly, the results of patient satisfaction and values of value-based medicine.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Systematic placement of a ureteral stent before surgery for posterior deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) was previously recommended, but it could increase perioperative complications. We evaluate the role of preoperative ureteral stent in women requiring surgery for ureteral involvement (UI) with large posterior DIE nodules and/or grade I-II hydronephrosis. METHODS Women undergoing minimally invasive surgery for DIE with UI having posterior nodules >3 cm and/or grade I-II hydronephrosis from 2014 to 2019 were retrospectively included. We progressively changed our strategy from a systematic pre-operative stent insertion (S-PS, up to 2016) to a non-systematic one (NS-PS, from 2016). RESULTS Eighty-eight women in the S-PS group and 96 in the NS-PS were included. Low urinary tract infections (UTI) were higher in the S-PS group (13.6% vs 2.1%, P = 0.003). Hospital stay was longer in women with S-PS (9.8 ± 5.3 days vs 6.7 ± 2.5 days, P < 0.001). Logistic regression analysis confirmed a significant association between NS-PS and low UTI (adjusted OR 0.20, 95% CI 0.05-0.81, P = 0.024). CONCLUSION Systematic placement of a ureteral stent before surgery in women requiring surgery does not reduce overall perioperative complication rate, but it is associated with a longer duration of hospitalization and a higher low UTI rate.

Abstract
Intrinsic ureteral endometriosis is a very rare presentation of deep infiltrating endometriosis. It can lead to urinary tract obstruction and loss of renal function. Clinical suspicion and radiologic assessment can aid in preoperative diagnosis and help plan surgical treatment. Herein we report a case of a 29-year-old female who presented with left-sided pelvic and flank pain. Imaging revealed left obstructive uropathy and a left ureteral mass. She underwent laparotomy and resection of the diseased ureter with primary re-anastomosis. Histology confirmed intrinsic ureteral endometriosis. There was subsequently complete resolution on follow-up imaging, with no permanent loss of renal function.

Abstract
Background To present the experience with the surgical management of ureteral endometriosis (UE) in our single center. Methods To present the experience with the surgical management of ureteral endometriosis (UE) in our single center. A retrospective analysis of 40 patients with UE who presented with intraoperative surgical findings of endometriosis involving the ureter and pathology-proven UE was performed. Results Forty patients (median age, 42.5 years) with histological evidence of UE were included. Six (15%) patients had a history of endometriosis. Twenty-one (52%) patients had urological symptoms, and 19 (48%) patients were asymptomatic. All patients had hydronephrosis. The mean glomerular filtration rate (GFR) of the ipsilateral kidney was significantly worse than that of the contralateral kidney (23.4 vs 54.9 ml/min; P < 0.001). Twelve (30%) patients were treated with ureteroureterostomy (11 open approaches and 1 robotic approach). Twenty-two (55%) patients underwent ureteroneocystostomy (17 open approaches, 4 laparoscopic approaches and 1 robotic approach). Five patients underwent nephroureterectomy. One patient refused aggressive surgery and received ureteroscopic biopsy and ureteral stent placement. Thirteen (33%) patients required gynecological operations. Three (8%) patients in the open group suffered from major surgical complications. Nine (24%) patients received postoperative endocrine therapy. Twenty-eight (70%) patients were followed up (median follow-up time, 71 months). Twenty-four patients received kidney-sparing surgeries. The success rate for these 24 patients was 21/24 (87.5%). The success rates of ureteroneocystostomy and ureteroureterostomy were 15/16 (93.8%) and 5/7 (71.4%), respectively. Conclusions Although UE is rare, we should remain vigilant for the disease among female patients with silent hydronephrosis. Typically, a multidisciplinary surgical team is necessary. For patients with severe UE, segmental ureteral resection with ureteroureterostomy (UU) or ureteroneocystostomy may be a preferred choice.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to retrospectively evaluate the performance of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in locating endometriosis implants within the bladder wall with assessment of ureteral orifice extension using surgical findings as standard of reference. MATERIALS AND METHODS MRI examinations of 39 consecutive women (mean age: 31.2±5.5 [SD] years; age range: 22-42years) operated in 3 university hospitals for bladder endometriosis over a 6-year period were reviewed by 2 independent readers. Interobserver agreement was assessed using Kappa tests. Results of consensus reading were used to calculate sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of MRI for the diagnosis, location and extent of endometriosis implants using surgical findings as the standard of reference. RESULTS Mean bladder repletion volume was 134±110 [SD] mL (range: 21-479mL). The mean largest endometriosis implant diameter was 30±7 [SD] mm (range: 19-41mm). On MR images, 34/39 (87%) endometriosis implants were present in the two anterior thirds of the dome (k=0.45), 31/39 (79%) extended or were present in the posterior third pouch (k=0.92) and 25/39 (64%) extended into the bladder base (k=0.84) with sensitivities of 100% (31/31; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 89-100%), 100% (30/30; 95% CI: 88-100%) and 90% (19/21; 95% CI: 69-98%), respectively, specificities of 83% (5/6, 95% CI: 36-100), 88% (7/8, 95% CI: 47-100%), 87% (13/15; 95% CI: 52-96), respectively and accuracies of 97% (36/37, 95% CI: 86-100%), 97% (37/38; 95% CI: 86-100%), and 89% (32/36; 95% CI: 74-97%), respectively. In 9 (9/25; 36%) patients with bladder base involvement, a zero distance was reported between endometriosis implants and ureteral orifices, all but one presenting with low-to-moderate bladder volumes. In the two patients who needed ureteral resection-reimplantation, ureteral dilation was associated with a zero distance. External adenomyosis was reported in 26/39 (66%) patients (k=0.94). CONCLUSION A dedicated preoperative MRI work-up for bladder endometriosis helps accurately depict and locate endometriosis implants. Adequate bladder filling is needed to improve appropriate estimate of the distance between endometriosis implants and ureteral orifices to better predict requirement of ureteral resection-reimplantation.

Abstract
We aim to describe the diagnosis and surgical management of urinary tract endometriosis (UTE). We detail current diagnostic tools, including advanced transvaginal ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, and surgical diagnostic tools such as cystourethroscopy. While discussing surgical treatment options, we emphasize the importance of an interdisciplinary team for complex cases that involve the urinary tract. While bladder deep endometriosis (DE) is more straightforward in its surgical treatment, ureteral DE requires a high level of surgical skill. Specialists should be aware of the important entity of UTE, due to the serious health implications for women. When UTE exists, it is important to work within an interdisciplinary radiological and surgical team.

Abstract
Endometriosis is a common gynecologic disorder characterized by the presence of ectopic endometrial tissue outside the endometrial cavity. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has become a mainstay for diagnosis and staging of this disease. In the literature, significant heterogeneity exists in the descriptions of imaging findings and anatomic sites of involvement. The Society of Abdominal Radiology's Endometriosis Disease-Focused Panel presents this consensus document to establish an MRI lexicon for endometriosis MRI evaluation and anatomic localization.

Abstract
STUDY OBJECTIVE To evaluate the feasibility, safety, and potential usefulness of near-infrared imaging (NIR) with indocyanine green (ICG) to assess ureteral perfusion after conservative surgery (ureterolysis or nodule removal) for ureteral endometriosis. Any changes to the surgical plan regarding intraoperative ureteral stent placement after NIR-ICG evaluation and early postoperative outcomes were recorded. DESIGN Prospective case series study. SETTING Tertiary level referral center for endometriosis and minimally invasive gynecology. PATIENTS Consecutive symptomatic women scheduled for laparoscopic conservative ureteral surgery for ureteral endometriosis. INTERVENTIONS After ureterolysis or nodule removal, residual perfusion of the ureters with regular caliber and peristalsis was evaluated through NIR-ICG imaging. Ureteral perfusion grade was defined as absent, irregular, or regular. Time required for NIR-ICG assessment, interoperator agreement regarding ureteral perfusion grade, any changes to the surgical plan after NIR-ICG evaluation, perioperative complications, and clinical-radiologic outcomes at early follow-up were recorded. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS A total of 31 ureters were examined with NIR-ICG imaging after conservative ureteral procedures. ICG assessment required 5.4 + 2.3 minutes. No complications related to fluorescence imaging were observed. Local ischemia supporting ureteral stent placement was suspected in 5 ureters (16.1%) at white light. Of these, 2 (40.0%) presented regular fluorescence; thus, ureteral stent placement was avoided. In the remaining 3 (60.0%), NIR-ICG confirmed irregular or absent fluorescence, requiring ureteral stent placement. Interoperator agreement regarding NIR-ICG evaluation was high. At a 3-month follow-up, all procedures were clinically and radiologically successful. CONCLUSION NIR-ICG imaging after conservative surgery for ureteral endometriosis seems to be a feasible, safe, and useful tool to assess ureteral perfusion and guide surgical decision, together with other visual cues at white light. However, this approach needs to be validated by further larger and controlled studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this report was to review experience from a single hospital in treating ureteral obstruction related to endometriosis with robot-assisted laparoscopic ureteral reconstruction. METHODS This retrospective analysis study (Canadian Task Force classification II-3) was conducted at an academic tertiary hospital. Five female patients with hydronephrosis without significant elevation of serum creatinine levels were enrolled. Ureteral endometriosis with obstruction was suspected on radiological images. Previous treatment with double-J stenting with or without medical treatment had failed in all of the patients. We performed robot-assisted laparoscopic segmental resection for ureteral endometriosis and reconstructed the ureter through ureteroureterostomy (RUU) or ureteroneocystostomy (RUC). The involved ureters included left lower ureter in three patients and right lower ureter in two patients. RUU was performed in four patients and RUC in one patient. All of the operations were completed smoothly without complications. RESULTS All ureteral endometrioses were successfully resected, and follow-up sonography or intravenous pyelography showed resolution of hydronephrosis in all of the patients. CONCLUSION Our experience proves the feasibility and efficacy of a robot-assisted approach for this rare situation with good outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The ureter is the second most common site affected by urinary tract endometriosis, after the bladder. Optimal strategies in the diagnosis and treatment of ureteral endometriosis (UE) are not yet well defined. OBJECTIVE AND RATIONALE The aim of this study was to systematically review evidence regarding the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment, impact on fertility and risk of malignant transformation of UE. SEARCH METHODS A systematic literature review, by searching the MEDLINE and PUBMED database until April 2018, was performed in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) statement and was registered in the PROSPERO registry (www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO CRD42017060065). A total of 67 articles were selected to be included in this review. OUTCOMES The involvement of the ureter by endometriosis is often asymptomatic or leads to non-specific symptoms. When the diagnosis is delayed, UE may lead to persistent hydronephrosis and eventually loss of renal function. Ultrasonography is the first-line technique for the assessment of UE; alternatively, magnetic resonance imaging provides an evaluation of ureteral type involvement. The surgical treatment of UE aims to relieve ureteral obstruction and avoid disease recurrence. It includes conservative ureterolysis or radical approaches, such as ureterectomy with end-to-end anastomosis or ureteroneocystostomy performed in relation to the type of ureteral involvement. Fertility and pregnancy outcomes are in line with those observed after surgical treatment of deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE). Current evidence does not support the potential risk of malignant transformation of UE. WIDER IMPLICATIONS In this article, we review available evidence on ureteral endometriosis, providing a useful tool to guide physicians in the management of this disease. Diagnosis and management of UE remain a challenge. In relation to the degree of ureteral involvement and the association with other DIE implants, the surgical approach should be planned and carried out in an interdisciplinary collaboration between gynecologist and urologist.

Abstract
Introduction: Surgical treatment of ureteral endometriosis is necessary to relieve urinary symptoms of obstruction and to preserve renal function. Which surgical approach to ureteral endometriosis should be considered the most appropriate is debated, due to the lack of scientific evidence. The aim of the present study is to assess the feasibility and to describe the perioperative outcomes of minimally invasive treatment of deep ureteral endometriosis using robotic assistance, highlighting the technical benefits and the limits of this approach. Method: A case-series including 31 consecutive patients affected by high-stage endometriosis including ureteral endometriosis using robotic assistance in our Department between November 2011 and September 2017. Results: All procedures were successfully completed by robotic technique, resulting in full excision of the parametrial nodules involving the ureter. Mean operating time was 184.8 ± 81 min. Mean hospital stay was 4.02 ± 3 days. Perioperative complications occurred in five patients and 4 out of 5 involved the urinary tract. Conclusions: Robotic surgery for deep infiltrating endometriosis of the ureter was feasible and allowed complete resection of ureteral nodules in all cases. No intraoperative complications arose, but a non-negligible rate of urinary tract complications was detected. This calls for a careful assessment of the benefits and specific risks associated with the use of robotic surgery for the treatment of deep infiltrating endometriosis of the ureter.

Abstract
Ureteral endometriosis (UE) can be classified as severe when there is obstruction to urinary flow (ureteral compression (UC)). In this retrospective study on 205 patients, we evaluated intraoperatively the frequency of severe ureteral endometriosis (UE) in women with UE and, secondarily, risk factors associated with UC. We documented intraoperatively ureteral UC in 124 (60.5%) patients with UE. A significantly lower body mass index (BMI) was observed in women with UC than in women without UC (p = .02). A significant association was found between UC and parametrial endometriosis (p = .001). In multivariable analysis, these variables remained significantly associated with UC. Ureteral compression is common in patients with UE, especially in women with parametrial infiltration and a low BMI.

Abstract
Endometriosis is common in women of reproductive age; it can cause pelvic pain and infertility. It is important to diagnose endometriosis and to thoroughly evaluate its extension, especially when surgical treatment is being considered. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with careful examination technique and interpretation enables more accurate and complete diagnosis and staging than ultrasonography, especially in cases of deep pelvic endometriosis. Furthermore, MRI can identify implants in sites that can be difficult to access in endoscopic or laparoscopic explorations. In this article, we describe the appropriate MRI protocol for the study of pelvic endometriosis and the MRI signs of pelvic organ involvement. It is necessary to know the subtle findings and to look for them so we can ensure that they are not overlooked. We describe clinical grading systems for endometriosis and review the diagnostic efficacy of MRI in comparison with other imaging techniques and surgery.

Abstract
Introduction: Ureteral endometriosis is a rare disease affecting women of childbearing age which presents with nonspecific symptoms and it may result in severe morbidity. The aim of this study was to review evidence about incidence, pathogenesis, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management of ureteral endometriosis. Materials and Methods: PubMed Central database was searched to identify studies reporting cases of ureteral endometriosis. “Ureter” or “Ureteral” and “Endometriosis” were used as key words. Database was searched for articles published since 1996, in English without restrictions regarding the study design. Results: From 420 studies obtained through database search, 104 articles were finally included in this review, including a total of 1384 patients with ureteral endometriosis. Data regarding age, location, pathological findings, and interventions were extracted. Mean patients' age was 38.6 years, whereas the therapeutic arsenal included hormonal, endoscopic, and/or surgical treatment. Conclusions: Ureteral endometriosis represents a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge for the clinicians and high clinical suspicion is needed to identify it.

Abstract
Purpose To investigate the safety of gadoterate meglumine and identify the incidence of nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF). Materials and Methods An international prospective observational study was conducted from November 2008 to June 2013. A total of 35,499 adults and children who were scheduled to undergo contrast‐enhanced MRI using gadoterate meglumine were analyzed (female, 53.1%; mean age: 49.5 years; range: 0‐98 years). At least 3‐month follow‐up was planned for patients with an estimated creatinine clearance or glomerular filtration rate <60 mL/min (/1.73 m2) to detect any suspicion or occurrence of NSF. Adverse events (AEs) were prospectively recorded. Demographic data, risk factors, indications for MRI examinations, characteristics of gadoterate meglumine administration, and efficacy were documented. Results MRI examinations were mainly for central nervous system (61%). The most frequent risk factor was renal insufficiency (14.7%). Seventy AEs were observed in 44 patients (0.12%). Among the 70 AEs, 38 in 32 patients (0.09% of all patients) were considered related to gadoterate meglumine and classified as adverse drug reaction (ADR).The most frequent ADRs were urticaria (9 patients, 0.03%), nausea (7 patients, 0.02%), and vomiting (4 patients, 0.01%). Within the pediatric population (1,629 patients), only one AE (vomiting) was observed. Nine adult patients (0.03%) experienced serious AEs. Moderate to severe renal insufficiency at inclusion was reported in 514 patients (1.5%). Among them, 476 (92.6%) were followed‐up. No patients were suspected of having NSF and no cases of NSF were observed. Conclusion Our study confirms the excellent safety profile of gadoterate meglumine in routine practice. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify risk factors for urologic reconstruction during surgery for endometriosis. PATIENTS AND METHODS We retrospectively identified patients in a surgical pathology database undergoing surgery for endometriosis at our institution from 2010 to 2015 and subsequently identified those patients with ureteral involvement. Patients were categorized as requiring minimal urologic surgery (eg, ureterolysis only) or more extensive urologic surgery (eg, ureteral reimplant). All patients were undergoing surgery for endometriosis, and preoperative risk factors were then identified to predict the need for intraoperative extensive urologic surgery. RESULTS Of 386 women undergoing surgery for endometriosis, 82 (21%) women required a surgical procedure on the ureter. Fifteen of these 82 patients (18.3%) with ureteral involvement required urologic surgical expertise in the form of either ureteral reimplantation with or without psoas hitch, or ureterolysis with ureteral stenting or omental wrap. The remaining 67 underwent ureterolysis alone or no intervention. The presence of flank pain, any urinary symptom, or hydronephrosis on preoperative imaging was a significant predictor of the need for major urologic intervention. CONCLUSION In patients with endometriosis undergoing surgery who complain of flank pain, any urinary symptom, or have hydronephrosis on preoperative imaging, one should have a high suspicion for needing to perform urologic reconstruction during surgery. Planning for this additional operation can afford the opportunity for appropriate urologic consultation and patient counseling.
