DA-6 improves sunflower seed vigor under Al3+ stress by regulating Al3+ balance and ethylene metabolic

Variation in phytotoxicity of rice seedlings caused by differential accumulation of azoxystrobin and pyraclostrobin in leaves

The effectiveness of pyraclostrobin (Pyr) and azoxystrobin (Azo) with highly targeting the rice blast is noteworthy, but they have varied toxic levels towards non-target aquatic organisms. Nevertheless, the toxic selectivity and mechanism of non-target plants, specifically rice, remain uncertain. In this study, we investigated the potential phytotoxic effects of Pyr and Azo on rice seedlings, including plant morphology, plant growth, physiological and biochemical changes. The findings revealed that both Pyr and Azo caused toxic effects on rice, resulting in symptoms of chlorosis and inhibited growth. The toxicity of Azo was found to be more severe when applied at the recommended field dose. Disruption of oxidative stress could significantly impact the demonstrated levels of REC, leading to a decrease in photosynthetic pigments and potentially culminating in cell death. Furthermore, the toxic effect of Azo had a greater impact on rice leaves compared to Pyr at treatments of 400, 800, 1600, and 4000 mg/L. However, the in vitro cytotoxicity of Azo on rice leaves was lower than that of Pyr. Therefore, it can be inferred that the mechanism of phytotoxicity of Azo is directly linked to the increased accumulation of the compound on the leaf tips and edges. Additionally, the positive effects observed on plant morphology and growth parameters suggest that the mixed application of plant growth regulators (sodium nitrophenolate aqueous solution of 14 mg/L and diethyl aminoethyl hexanoat of 50 mg/L) can be a promising approach to mitigate the rice phytotoxicity of Azo at 400 and 800 mg/L.

Effect of plant growth regulators DA-6 and COS on drought tolerance of pineapple through bromelain and oxidative stress

BACKGROUND

Due to global warming, drought climates frequently occur on land, and despite being drought resistant, pineapples are still subjected to varying degrees of drought stress. Plant growth regulators can regulate the stress tolerance of plants through hormonal effects. This experiment aims to investigate the regulatory effects of different plant growth regulators on Tainong- 16 and MD-2 Pineapple when subjected to drought stress.

RESULTS

In this experiment, we examined the regulatory effects of two different plant growth regulators, sprayed on two pineapple varieties: MD-2 Pineapple and Tainong-16. The main component of T1 was diethyl aminoethyl hexanoate (DA-6) and that of T2 is chitosan oligosaccharide (COS). An environment similar to a natural drought was simulated in the drought stress treatments. Then, pineapples at different periods were sampled and a series of indicators were measured. The experimental results showed that the drought treatments treated with T1 and T2 plant growth regulators had a decrease in malondialdehyde, an increase in bromelain and antioxidant enzyme indicators, and an increase in phenotypic and yield indicators.

CONCLUSION

This experiment demonstrated that DA-6 and COS can enhance the drought resistance of pineapple plants to a certain extent through bromelain and oxidative stress. Therefore, DA-6 and COS have potential applications and this experiment lays the foundation for further research.

Trehalose Outperforms Chitosan, Humic Acid and Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid in Promoting the Growth of Field Maize

Despite the fact that there are many distinct types of plant growth regulators (PGRs), the diverse ways in which they regulate plant development are rarely compared. In this study, four PGRs (trehalose, chitosan, humic acid and gamma-aminobutyric acid) were selected and sprayed folially, and plant samples were collected while maize was at vegetative leaf stages 6, 10, and 14 (V6, V10, and V14, respectively) to reveal the effects of different PGRs on photosynthesis, dry matter accumulation, oxidative stress, carbon and nitrogen metabolism, hormone levels, and gene expression of maize. Results showed that 100 mg/L PGRs did not induce oxidative damage or repair activities in maize. Trehalose significantly increased chlorophyll content at V6 and promoted dry matter (roots and shoots) accumulation at V6 and V10. The activities of carbon and nitrogen metabolizing enzymes were significantly enhanced by trehalose treatment, which promoted the accumulation of sucrose and soluble sugar, but did not affect the biosynthesis of auxin and gibberellin at V6. Changes in carbon and nitrogen metabolism enzymes are regulated by transcription of related synthetic genes. Lower starch content and higher sucrose content in trehalose-treated maize leaves are important biological characteristics. Further analysis revealed that the effect of trehalose on the metabolic activity of maize was a short-term promoting effect (0-12 days), while the effect on maize growth was a long-term cumulative effect (13-28 days). Overall, exogenous trehalose induced stronger carbon and nitrogen metabolic activity, higher photosynthetic capacity and more dry matter accumulation than chitosan, humic acid and gamma-aminobutyric acid.

Research Advances in the Mutual Mechanisms Regulating Response of Plant Roots to Phosphate Deficiency and Aluminum Toxicity

Low phosphate (Pi) availability and high aluminum (Al) toxicity constitute two major plant mineral nutritional stressors that limit plant productivity on acidic soils. Advances toward the identification of genes and signaling networks that are involved in both stresses in model plants such as Arabidopsis thaliana and rice (Oryza sativa), and in other plants as well have revealed that some factors such as organic acids (OAs), cell wall properties, phytohormones, and iron (Fe) homeostasis are interconnected with each other. Moreover, OAs are involved in recruiting of many plant-growth-promoting bacteria that are able to secrete both OAs and phosphatases to increase Pi availability and decrease Al toxicity. In this review paper, we summarize these mutual mechanisms by which plants deal with both Al toxicity and P starvation, with emphasis on OA secretion regulation, plant-growth-promoting bacteria, transcription factors, transporters, hormones, and cell wall-related kinases in the context of root development and root system architecture remodeling that plays a determinant role in improving P use efficiency and Al resistance on acidic soils.
