Abstract
A series of iridium(III) triimine complexes incorporating 2,2':6',2″-terpyridine (terpy) and 2,6-bis(thiazol-2-yl)pyridine (dtpy) derivatives were successfully designed and synthesized to investigate the impact of the peripheral rings (pyridine, thiazole) and substituents (thiophene, bithiophene, EDOT) attached to the triimine skeleton on their photophysical properties. The Ir(III) complexes were fully characterized using IR, 1H, elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray analysis. Their thermal properties were evaluated using TGA measurements. Photoluminescence spectra of [IrCl3L1-6] were investigated in solution at 298 and 77 K. The experimental studies were accompanied by DFT/TDDFT calculations. The photophysical properties of the synthesized triimine ligands and Ir(III) complexes were studied in detail by electronic absorption and emission. In solution, they exhibited photoluminescence quantum yields ranging from 1.27% to 5.30% depending on the chemical structure. The experimental research included DFT/TDDFT calculations. The photophysical properties of the synthesized triimine ligands and Ir(III) complexes were conducted using electronic absorption and emission techniques. Abstract
Eight 2,2':6',2″-terpyridines, substituted at the 4'-position with aromatic groups featuring variations in π-conjugation, ring size, heteroatoms, and methoxy groups, were employed to enhance the antiproliferative potential of [Cu2Cl2(R-terpy)2](PF6)2. Assessing the cytotoxicity in A2780 (ovarian carcinoma), HCT116 (colorectal carcinoma), and HCT116DoxR (colorectal carcinoma resistant to doxorubicin) and normal primary fibroblasts revealed that Cu(II) complexes with 4-quinolinyl, 4-methoxy-1-naphthyl, 2-furanyl, and 2-pyridynyl substituents showed superior therapeutic potential in HCT116DoxR cells with significantly reduced cytotoxicity in normal fibroblasts (42-129× lower). Besides their cytotoxicity, the Cu(II) complexes are able to increase intracellular ROS and interfere with cell cycle progression, leading to cell death by apoptosis and autophagy. Importantly, they demonstrated antimetastatic and antiangiogenic properties without in vivo toxicity. In accordance with their nuclear accumulation, the Cu(II) complexes are able to cleave pDNA and interact with bovine serum albumin, which is a good indication of their ability for internalization and transport toward tumor cells.

Abstract
A series of chelated metal complexes, [Co(LI)2] (1), [Ni(LI)2] (2), [Cu(LI)2] (3) [Co(LII)2] (4), [Ni(LII)2] (5) and [Cu(LII)2] (6) were designed and synthesized from newly synthesized Schiff bases, LI = 2-((E)-(5-(4-fluorophenyl)isoxazol-3-ylimino)methyl)-5-methylphenol and LII = 2-((E)-(5-(4-fluorophenyl)isoxazol-3-ylimino)methyl)-4-chlorophenol. The synthesized compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), electronic spectroscopy (UV-Vis), infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), magnetic susceptibility (µeff), electron spin resonance spectroscopy (ESR), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), and powder X-ray diffraction analysis (P-XRD). The spectral investigations have been clearly suggested 1:2 (metal: ligand) stoichiometric complexes with square planar geometrical arrangement around the metal ion. The thermal gravimmetric analysis (TGA) of these complexes indicates greater thermal stability and various steps involved in thermal decomposition of metal complexes. The binding ability between these metal complexes and calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) was investigated by UV-Vis, fluorescence spectroscopy and viscometric experiments, which disclosed that, the complexes interacted to CT-DNA via an intercalation binding mode. The cleavage property of metal complexes against pBR322 DNA has been explored by gel electrophoresis technique mediated by UV-illumination and H2O2, showed momentous cleavage activity. Antioxidant activity of all complexes was determined by DPPH free radical scavenging experiment and showed prominent antioxidant activity. Further, the antibacterial and antifungal activities of all compounds were screened against bacterial and fungal strains via in-vitro disc diffusion method. These studies revealed that the complexes showed comparatively more antimicrobial activity than free ligands against tested microbial strains.

Abstract
Six terpyridine ligands(L1-L6) with chlorophenol or bromophenol moiety were obtained to prepare metal terpyridine derivatives complexes: [Ru(L1)(DMSO)Cl2] (1), [Ru(L2)(DMSO)Cl2] (2), [Ru(L3)(DMSO)Cl2] (3), [Cu(L4)Br2]·DMSO (4), Cu(L5)Br2 (5), and [Cu(L6)Br2]⋅CH3OH (6). The complexes were fully characterized. Ru complexes 1-3 showed low cytotoxicity against the tested cell lines. Cu complexes 4-6 exhibited higher cytotoxicity against several tested cancer cell lines compared to their ligands and cisplatin, and lower toxicity towards normal human cells. Copper(II) complexes 4-6 arrested T-24 cell cycle in G1 phase. The mechanism studies indicated that complexes 4-6 accumulated in mitochondria of T-24 cells and caused significant reduction of the mitochondrial membrane potential, increase of the intracellular ROS levels and the release of Ca2+, and the activation of the Caspase cascade, finally inducing apoptosis. Animal studies showed that complex 6 obviously inhibited the tumor growth in a mouse xenograft model bearing T-24 tumor cells without significant toxicity.

Abstract
The interaction of two binuclear mixed ligand Cu(ii) complexes [Cu(o-phen)LCu(OAc)] (1) and [Cu(o-phen)LCu(o-phen)](OAc) (2) (H3L = o-HOC6H4C(H)[double bond, length as m-dash]N-NH-C(OH)[double bond, length as m-dash]N-N[double bond, length as m-dash]C(H)-C6H4OH-o) and a new mononuclear Zn(ii) complex [Zn(HL)(o-phen)(H2O)](OAc)·H2O (3) (H2L = o-HOC6H4-C(H)[double bond, length as m-dash]N-NH-C([double bond, length as m-dash]O)-NH-N[double bond, length as m-dash]C(H)-C6H4OH-o, o-phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, and OAc = CH3COO-) with human serum albumin (HSA) was studied using fluorescence quenching, synchronous and 3D fluorescence measurements and UV-vis spectroscopy. 3D fluorescence studies showed that the HSA structure was altered at the secondary and tertiary levels upon binding with the complexes. This was further supported by the electronic absorption spectral studies of HSA in the absence and presence of the compounds. The average binding distance (r) between HSA and the complexes was obtained by Förster's resonance energy transfer theory. Complex 3 was structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography. Molecular docking studies indicated that all three complexes primarily bind to HSA in subdomain IIA with amino acid residues such as Arg218 and Lys199 which are located at the entrance of Sudlow's site I. The in vitro cytotoxicities of complexes 1-3 against HeLa cells showed promising anticancer activity (IC50 = 3.5, 3.9 and 16.9 μM for 1, 2 and 3, respectively). Live cell time lapse imaging for 1 was done to capture the dynamic behavior of the cells upon treatment with the complex. Cell cycle analysis by flow cytometry with HeLa cells indicated that 1 and 2 induced cell cycle arrest in the G2/M phase while 3 induced arrest in the G0/G1 phase leading to cell death. Compounds 1 and 2 but not 3 induced apoptosis through the mitochondrial pathway as suggested from the relative p53, caspase3 and bcl2 mRNA levels measured by real-time quantitative PCR analysis.

Abstract
A novel tryptophan-derived Schiff base ligand (potassium (E)-2-((4-chloro-3-nitrobenzylidene)amino)-3-(1H-indol-3-yl)propanoate) and a series of its transition metal complexes of the types [ML2] and [ML(1,10-phen)2]Cl where M = Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) were prepared. They were analyzed by various spectral and physicochemical studies. The XRD data were also used to determine the average lattice parameters and crystalline size of the compounds. All the synthesized compounds were tested against a series of five bacterial and fungal strains. The obtained results showed that the biological activity of free ligand was increased on complexation. PASS online software predicts the various biological activities of ligand such as enzyme inhibitor, antiviral, analgesic and antituberculosis. The in silico theoretical prediction of synthesized compounds is also deliberated by Swiss ADME predictor which gives the properties of molecular hydrophobicity (log P), topological polar surface area (TPSA) and oral bioavailability score. The binding energy of the docked molecule with macromolecules 1BNA and 3EQM is also determined by using Hex 8.0 software. The ligand has the least binding energy score which signifies that the potential of binding is greater in the receptor. Moreover, the interactions of complexes with DNA have been explored by electronic absorption titration, fluorescence emission titration, viscosity measurements and gel electrophoresis. Abstract
In this work, we have synthesized a few novel mononuclear complexes of Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) using a pyrazolone-derived Schiff base ligand. They were characterized by spectroscopic and analytical methods. The elemental analyses, UV-Vis, magnetic moment values and molar conductance of the complexes reveal that the complexes adopt an octahedral arrangement around the central metal ions. The interaction of complexes with CT-DNA was studied by absorption spectral titration and viscosity measurements. The observed data show that the complexes bind with CT-DNA via an intercalation mode. Efficient pUC18 DNA cleavage ability of the synthesized compounds was explored by gel electrophoresis. The antimicrobial activity of these compounds against a set of bacterial and fungal strains reveals that the complexes exhibit better activity than the free ligand. Moreover, all the complexes were evaluated against two cancer (HeLa and HepG2) and one normal (NHDF) cell lines. The data were compared with cisplatin. Anti-inflammatory activity has been experimentally validated which proves that theoretical predictions concur with the experimental results. In addition, molecular docking studies have been performed to consider the nature of binding mode and binding affinity of these compounds with DNA (1BNA) and protein (3hb5). These studies reveal that the mode of binding is intercalation and the complexes have higher binding energy scores than the free ligand.

Abstract
Abstract
Five coordination complexes [Fe(ftpy)2](ClO4)2·(H2O)2 (1), [Cu(ftpy)(NO3)(H2O)](NO3) (2), [Cu(ftpy)2]2(ClO4)4·(C2H5OH) (3), [Zn(ftpy)2]·(ClO4)2·(H2O)1.5 (4) and [Cd(ftpy)2]2(ClO4)4·(C2H5OH) (5) (ftpy=4′-(furan-2-yl)-2,2′:6′,2′-terpyridine) have been synthesized and characterized by IR, elemental analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. With the exception of 4, all complexes adopt normal homoleptic [M(ftpy)2]2+ motifs. In the crystal, both hydrogen bonds and face-to-face interactions between furyl and pyridyl rings facilitate the construction of three-dimensional networks. The DNA-binding activities of the five complexes have been investigated by fluorescence emission titration at room temperature suggesting an intercalative mode for 1–3 with a relative order, 3>2>1, and a combined static and dynamic mode for 4 and 5.

Abstract
A series of four new copper(II) heteroleptic complexes, [Cu(2‴-pytpy) (L)] (NO3)2·2H2O (1-4), where 2‴-pytpy=4'-(2'''-Pyridyl)-2, 2':6', 2''-terpyridine, L=bipyridyl (bpy), 1, 10 phenanthroline(phen), dipyridoquinoxaline(dpq) and dipyridophenazine (dppz) were synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic techniques. Further, the molecular structure of the complex (2) was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction technique and the data revealed a penta coordinated, distorted square-pyramidal geometry with triclinic system. The interactions of four complexes with calf thymus DNA and bovine serum albumin (BSA) were investigated by electronic absorption, fluorescence and circular dichroism spectroscopy techniques. Spectral studies substantiated an intercalative binding mode of metal complexes with ct-DNA. Significant binding interactions of the complexes with protein have been further revealed from fluorescence studies. Furthermore, all the four complexes show potential cytotoxicity towards the human liver carcinoma cell line (HepG-2).

Abstract
Three ternary copper (II) complexes containing 1,10-phenanthroline (phen, 1), dipyrido[3,2-d:2',3'-f]quinoxaline (dpq, 2) and dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine (dppz, 3), with the formulation [Cu2(NCL)2(H4PASP)]·4.5H2O (1-3) (where NCL=the diimine coligand, H4PASP=N,N'-(p-xylylene)di-2-aminosuccinic acid), were isolated and characterized. The binding of these complexes with calf thymus DNA was studied using UV-visible absorption titration, emission, and circular dichroism spectroscopy, among other methods. The changes in physicochemical properties that occurred upon binding of these complexes with DNA indicate that binding occurs primarily through intercalative interactions. Human tumor cell lines HeLa, PC3, and HepG2 were treated with the copper(II) complexes in vitro and cell survival rate was assessed by 3-(4,5-dimethyl thiazol-2yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay and crystal violet survival assay. Flow cytometry was performed on treated cells labeled with AnnexinV/Propidium Iodide staining to determine rates of apoptosis. Western blot was performed to determine the expression levels of the apoptotic markers p53, Bax, and Bcl-2. The complexes reduced cell viability and induced apoptosis in cells of human tumor cell lines in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, using a nude mouse xenograft model, we found that the three ternary copper (II) complexes inhibited human tumor cell growth in vivo. In conclusion, these novel synthetic copper complexes have profound antitumor effects on human tumor cells and are promising therapeutic agents for human tumors.

Abstract
A series of isonicotinoyl hydrazones have been synthesized via template method and were complexed to Cu(II). The ligands are coordinated to Cu(II) ion through the enolic oxygen and azomethine nitrogen resulting in a square planar geometry. The CT-DNA and bovine serum albumin binding propensities of the compounds were determined spectrophotometrically, the results of which indicate good binding propensity of complexes to DNA and BSA with high binding constant values. Furthermore, the compounds have been investigated for their cytotoxicities on A549 human lung cancer cell. Also the mode of cell death was examined employing various staining techniques and was found to be apoptotic.
