Abstract
This study aims to investigate the phenomenon of hope in adolescents diagnosed with cancer and examine adolescents' lived experiences of hope. The study was conducted between November 2022 and March 2023. The study used a phenomenological-visual qualitative research design with 20 adolescents in the pediatric oncology ward. The purposive sampling method was used in the study. Data were collected using "Descriptive Characteristic Form," "Semi-structured Interview Form," "Drawing Technique," and "Mutual Storytelling Technique". The adolescents were instructed, "Let us draw our hopes," and asked to draw pictures. Each adolescent was interviewed about the drawings and asked four semi-structured questions. Audio recordings of the interviews were made and transcribed. A hermeneutic phenomenological approach was used in the analysis of the data. Two main themes and four subthemes were identified in the study. Metaphorical and conceptual context was included in the theme of symbolizing and linking hope. Two subthemes, facilitators and barriers, were identified in the main theme of rooting hope. The study sheds light on hope experiences in adolescents receiving cancer treatment and guides healthcare professionals.

Abstract
AIM Given the multifaceted nature of paediatric palliative care (PPC), integrative medicine and mind-body therapies, in particular, are increasingly used in this setting. However, to our knowledge, their use in PPC has never been specifically reviewed. Therefore, this work aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the application and possible beneficial effects of mind-body therapies in the PPC setting. METHODS Papers about the use of meditation and mindfulness, biofeedback, hypnosis, yoga, tai chi and qi gong, imagery, creative outlets, and art therapy in PPC were identified by browsing PubMed and CINHAL. RESULTS We found that the harmless nature of mind-body therapies has been extensively described, and available studies consistently show some benefits on the anxiety, stress, and quality of life of parents/caregivers and healthcare providers. However, well-grounded and robust evidence does not fully support the efficacy of mind-body therapies, especially in patients. CONCLUSION Considering the peculiarity of the PPC setting, we suggest that mind-body therapies should be further considered and properly investigated through larger controlled studies and according to the different populations of PPC children, as well as for parents, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to determine the effect of an occupation-based nursing program (OBaNuP) on chemotherapy-induced symptoms and satisfaction in pediatric oncology patients. DATA SOURCES This study was a randomized controlled trial. The study sample consisted of 60 hospitalized children with cancer who were aged 7 to 12. Participants were randomly assigned to an OBaNuP (intervention group, n = 30) or clinical routine care only (control group, n = 30). The intervention group participated in an OBaNuP for an average of 30 minutes per day for 5 days. The Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale 7-12 and Psychosocial Symptoms in Hospitalized Children and Child Satisfaction Questionnaire were completed by participants at baseline, the first meeting immediately after intervention, and 7 days and 14 days after the intervention. CONCLUSION The average scores of chemotherapy-related symptoms differed over time between the intervention and control groups (P < .05). The psychosocial symptom score averages of the children in the intervention group significantly decreased at all time points compared to the control group (P < .05). The satisfaction mean scores of the children in the intervention group increased significantly at all time points compared to the control group (P < .05). IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE The OBaNuP initiative supported the decrease of chemotherapy-related and psychosocial symptoms, while also promoting an increase in satisfaction among children undergoing cancer treatment at the hospital consistently over all observed time periods.

Abstract
Background Hospitalization can be an extremely distressing experience for seriously ill and injured children. Art therapy has a well-established clinical history, and recent research has begun to demonstrate its effectiveness in somatic pediatric wards. Descriptive and statistical research indicates that art therapy can alleviate anxiety and fear, improve mood, and enhance communication among children, parents, and healthcare professionals. This study aims to enhance our understanding of the specific elements of art therapy that facilitate a connection with the healthier aspects of the self. Method A total of 12 hospitalized children, aged 4-12, participated in an art therapy session led by a certified art therapist. Verbalizations during the sessions were recorded, and subsequent observations were synchronized with verbatim transcriptions of audio recordings. A reflexive thematic analysis was conducted to identify relevant patterns of meaning. Findings The study identified four significant dimensions of the children's experiences during art therapy: (1) The child feels safe, (2) The child becomes a competent artist, bursting with creativity, (3) The healthy child emerges, and (4) The child achieves something beyond its limits - a triumph. Discussion The active ingredients contributing to effective art therapy include the stimulation of creativity, guided art-making with scaffolding support, task variation, granting children control over the artistic process, encouragement of free expression, and the display of positive regard. This study also delves into the therapeutic alliance, emphasizing its role in facilitating children's learning, self-expression, concentration, and the creation of work they take pride in. Additionally, certain psychotherapy-like interactions, such as control-mastery dynamics, were observed. Nevertheless, more extensive research with larger sample sizes is required to draw broader conclusions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Symptom distress is related to decreased quality of life (QOL) among children with cancer, with high levels of pain, nausea, and anxiety reported. Creative arts therapy (CAT) has been related to improved QOL and symptoms in pediatric oncology, but the quality of evidence is mixed. OBJECTIVE This article aims to examine the QOL symptom subscales in relation to CAT over time in children during the first year of cancer treatment. METHODS A secondary analysis of prospective data was performed with linear mixed modeling on 267 observations with predictors of 2 groups: No CAT (n = 18) vs CAT (n = 65). The covariate of time (6 months) was used to explore the CAT relationship with the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) symptom subscales (pain and hurt, nausea, procedural anxiety, treatment anxiety, worry, cognitive problems, perceived physical appearance, and communication). RESULTS Children (n = 83) were between 3 and 17 years old (M = 6), 51.2% female, and 32% minority. All tumor types were represented: liquid (37.3%), solid (24.1%), and central nervous system (38.6%). Reduced child report of procedural anxiety was significantly related to receiving CAT with a medium magnitude of association (adjusted effect size = 0.58, P = .01). CONCLUSION Creative arts interventions were associated with a longitudinal improvement in anxiety in children with cancer. Further work is needed to target interventions to the appropriate specific burdensome symptoms. IMPLICATION FOR PRACTICE Pediatric oncology nurses can advocate for CAT as an effective intervention to ameliorate the burdensome procedural anxiety experienced by patients.

Abstract
PURPOSE Pediatric cancer is a serious problem and still becomes a global challenge today. Various complex stressors due to diagnosis, disease symptoms, and various side-effects from the treatment that children with cancer undergo will cause problems in the child's psychoneuroimmunological aspects. Psychological interventions designed to modulate the stress response include psychoneuroimmunological markers. Unfortunately, there is little evidence to support the effect of psychological interventions on psychoneuroimmunological markers. This systematic review aims to assess the effectiveness of psychological interventions on psychoneuroimmunological markers in children with cancer and to provide a new integrative model for further research. METHODS This systematic review uses four main databases (Scopus, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and ProQuest). The guideline used Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA). Selecting articles used the Rayyan application. The quality study was conducted using Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI)'s critical appraisal tools. The data were analyzed using the population, intervention, comparison, outcome, and study design (PICO) Synthesis based on similarities and differences in study characteristics to interpret the results. RESULTS The search results in this systematic review found 1653 articles, 21 of which matched the predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Most of the designs used were randomized controlled trials (57.1%). Massage therapy was the most common type of psychological intervention (14.2%). Almost half of the studies measured psychological responses (38.0%), and psycho-physiological responses (42.9%), and only a small proportion assessed the effectiveness of psychological interventions on neuroimmunological markers in pediatric cancer. CONCLUSIONS We recommend the use of psychological interventions as an additional intervention in managing psychoneuroimmunological markers of pediatric cancer. This study offers a new integrative model demonstrating the interaction between stress and psychological intervention involving neuroendocrine and immune mechanisms. However, future researchers need to test all domains of these new integrative models. This will reveal the complex interactions among these components and understand their relevance to health outcomes.

Abstract
Hope's role in the care of adolescents and young adults (AYAs) who have advanced cancer (AC) is not well understood. This study aimed to conceptualize the essence of hope among AYAs who have AC based on their lived experiences and illustrate hope through verbal and artistic depictions of the AYA's lived experiences. Fifteen AYAs, aged 12 to 21 years, diagnosed with AC completed two semistructured interviews to share their lived experiences of hope perspectives in the form of a descriptive narrative and a creative-art outcome. Participants who chose to draw pictures narrated the conceptual meanings based on elements of each picture. A board-certified art therapist performed a post hoc analysis of the drawings and participants' verbatim descriptions of their meanings. Five of the 15 AYA participants created drawings depicting their lived experiences of hope. The artistic process of mapping their cancer journey revealed distinct views of hope through nature landscapes and metaphors. Participants provided titles for their drawings such as "Over the Rainbow," "Growth in the Valley," and "The Light at the End of the Tunnel." The pictures embodied the AYAs' thoughts, perceptions, and lived experiences related to hope and its role during their cancer journey. Drawing is one simple art form that can facilitate an AYA's expression of well-being (including hope) beyond what may be verbally articulated. Creative art should be further researched as a screening tool to assess how AYAs with AC cope with an uncertain future and psychological and/or existential distress symptoms.

Abstract
This research was conducted to determine the effect of calligraphy on the anxiety and depression levels of adolescent psychiatric patients. It was conducted with adolescent psychiatric patients ages 14-17 in Turkey's Eastern Anatolia Region. They were allocated a calligraphy (n = 40) or a wait-list (n = 39) group. Those in the calligraphy group participated in 60-min calligraphy sessions for three weeks. The state anxiety levels of adolescents who applied calligraphy decreased gradually when compared with adolescents in the control group. The difference between the third-week mean post-test state anxiety scores of the adolescents in the calligraphy and control groups was significant (t = 2.34, p = .02). The trait anxiety scale and depression scale mean post-test scores of the adolescents in the calligraphy group were lower than in the control group. The difference between two groups was significant. Calligraphy can be potentially used as a beneficial method for reducing anxiety and depression.

Abstract
Background The integration of art therapy in health care is a growing trend in the care of cancer patients. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the physical and mental benefits of art in children with cancer. Materials and Methods A systematic review of English articles using Google Scholar, MEDLINE via PubMed, Scopus, the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and the Web of Science was conducted. Relevant keywords for cancer, child, art therapy and their synonyms were used accordingly. All searches were conducted to December 31, 2021.Relevant articles were included studies published in English and involving children aged 0-18 years. Studies evaluated the effects of art therapy in children with cancer. Results Seventeen studies had inclusion criteria, of which 12 studies were performed by clinical trial and 5 studies were performed by quasi-experimental method. Sixteen studies evaluated one type of art-therapy intervention, while one study used a combination of art-therapy approaches.The results showed that art-based interventions in the physical dimension lead to more physical activity, stability in breathing, and heart rate, and these children reported less pain. In the dimensions of psychology had less anxiety, depression, and anger but at the same time had a better quality of life and more coping-related behaviors. Conclusion It seems that the use of art therapy in pediatric palliative care with cancer can have good physical and psychological results for the child, but it is suggested to evaluate the effects of these interventions in children at the end of life.

Abstract
Objective Childhood cancer patients need to have good treatment adherence.
Unfortunately, treatment non-adherence often occurs due to high side-effect
burdens of treatment and the lack of knowledge of one's illness and
treatment. Therefore, a serious game intervention based on the Protection
Motivation Theory (PMT) was designed and developed to motivate childhood
cancer patients to undergo treatment and to motivate them to undergo
treatment, perform daily self-care and educate them about their illness. Methods Childhood cancer patients (6–17 years old) and their caregivers were
recruited in a multi-centre, single-arm intervention in Malaysia. A total of
24 child-caregiver dyads have completed the study. This study used PMT-based
surveys to collect quantitative data regarding children's motivation to
adhere to treatment and perform daily self-care. Additionally, a 20-question
multiple-choice quiz was used to determine children's knowledge levels.
These surveys were conducted pre-test and post-test. Children's and
caregivers' feedback were also gathered post-test as qualitative data. Results The results showed that overall, the children's intention to undergo cancer
treatment had increased significantly. A significant increase in the
intention to perform daily self-care was found among younger children, while
older children showed significant improvement in their cancer knowledge
levels. The post-test feedback suggested that the game was liked by both
children and caregivers and it provided various benefits to children with
cancer. Conclusions Findings suggest that the intervention has the potential to improve childhood
cancer patients’ motivation for treatment adherence and daily self-care, in
addition to educating them about cancer and treatment.

Abstract
Background Paediatric cancer patients often experience anxiety and depression. Evidence suggests that cognitive-behavioural interventions may help reduce anxiety and depression in children undergoing cancer treatment. However, only a few studies evaluated its impact on the psychological well-being and quality of life of paediatric cancer patients globally. In Ethiopia, there has been no published study to date. Thus, this trial aims to evaluate the efficacy of a culturally tailored cognitive-behavioural intervention for Ethiopian children with haematological malignancies receiving chemotherapy. Methods A single-blinded, parallel-group, two-arm, repeated measure randomised controlled trial will be conducted. Eighty children aged 8 − 18 years with haematological malignancy receiving chemotherapy will be recruited and randomly assigned to experimental or control groups. The experimental group will receive five sessions of introducing cognitive-behavioural intervention, identifying and modifying maladaptive thoughts and behaviour, behavioural activation, practising deep breathing exercises, reassessing goals or treatment plans, and encouraging participants to maintain changes. Each session will be conducted face-to-face for 30–35 min a week. The control group will receive usual care. The outcomes will be measured at baseline, post-intervention, and one month after the intervention using the Revised Child Anxiety and Depression Scale and Paediatric Quality of Life Inventory Generic Core Score 4.0. Discussion The findings of this study will provide evidence to support the integration of culturally effective cognitive-behavioural intervention strategies into paediatric oncology practice and thus, add new knowledge to the literature and help improve the care of children with haematological malignancies receiving chemotherapy. If the cognitive-behavioural intervention is shown to be effective and culturally acceptable, it will provide evidence to include the intervention as a standard of care in paediatric haematology/oncology. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Diagnosis and treatment represent distressing experiences for the families of children with cancer. Psychosocial challenges are faced by these families in China because of limited health services and resources for psychosocial oncology care. Effective interventions tailored to the knowledge level and cultural values of this population are needed. The goal of this study is to evaluate a smartphone-based care support (SBCS) programme for the families of children with cancer in China. METHODS AND ANALYSIS A parallel randomised controlled trial will be conducted to examine the efficacy of an evidence-based and culturally tailored SBCS programme for the families of children with cancer in China. A total of 180 families will be recruited. The intervention will consist of an introduction session and four main sessions and will be conducted sequentially on a single weekend day. Participating families will be included in the intervention group. The post-traumatic stress and quality of life of families will be evaluated at baseline, during the intervention, immediately after the intervention, and 2 and 6 months after the intervention. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Ethical approval for this protocol has been obtained from the Nursing and Behavioural Medicine Research Ethics Review Committee, Xiangya School of Nursing, Central South University (Protocol #: E2020125). The findings of the trial will be disseminated through conference presentations and publications in peer-reviewed journals. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER ChiCTR2000040510.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of 'peer-assisted video-based education programme' (VTPA) and counselling to reduce anxiety in children newly diagnosed with cancer. METHODS A non-randomised controlled trial design with repeated measures was conducted. The sample of the study consisted of 50 children between the ages of 9 and 18 who were newly diagnosed with cancer in the hospital. Intervention and control groups were created. Children in the intervention group received both VTPA training and counselling practice 3 days a week for 2 months. Data were collected with the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children. The basal assessment in the research was the first meeting with the child, with interval assessments 1 month after, 2 months after and 3 months after the education. RESULTS In the study, it was determined that the state anxiety mean scores of the children in the PAVEP and control groups differed over time (p < 0.05). However, it was determined that there was no difference between the trait anxiety mean scores of the children (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION VTPA with peer assistance and counselling application supported the reduction of state anxiety in children newly diagnosed with cancer over time.

Abstract
Background: Children hospitalized for cancer treatment are known to experience high levels of anxiety. This study aimed to examine the effects of making jewelry from beads on the state and trait anxiety levels of children with cancer. Methods: This parallel group, randomized controlled trial was conducted on 62 children aged 7-18 who were being treated for cancer. The children were selected using the random sampling method. The jewelry-making sessions with the children in the intervention group were held twice a week for four weeks. Data were analysed using the chi-square test, the Student's t-test, the independent samples t-test and linear regression. Results: The state anxiety levels of the children in the intervention group decreased both in the first week and the fourth week after making jewelry. The difference in the average post-test scores between the two groups was found to be significant (p < .05). The fourth week average trait anxiety score of the children in the intervention group decreased (M = 33.2) in comparison to the average score of the control group (M = 36.5). The difference between the two groups was found to be significant (p < .001). Discussion: This study found that the activity of making jewelry from beads was effective in reducing the state and trait anxiety levels of children with cancer.

Abstract
Introduction: Children with cancer experience distress and decreased quality of life (QOL). Creative arts therapy (CAT) is a therapeutic modality which may improve QOL. This study examined the relationship between CAT and QOL in children and adolescents with cancer. Secondary aims explored relationships between CAT and emotional reactions, resilience, and posture (to investigate future potential as an objective biomarker of QOL). Methods: Children aged 3-18 years undergoing cancer treatments and a parent proxy completed the PedsQL3.0 Cancer Module, Faces Scale for emotional reactions, Resilience Scale in adolescents (>12 years), and an inclinometer to measure thoracic kyphosis before and after CAT. CAT exposure (number of sessions) was recorded. Results: Ninety-eight children with cancer (mean age 7.8 years, range 3-17) and parent proxy were enrolled. Of the 83 participants included in the final analysis, 18 received no CAT, 32 received low dose, and 33 received high dose CAT. A significant improvement in QOL was seen with high dose CAT in (slope change, p = .015), but the overall time by group interaction was not significant. Slope change response patterns suggested that CAT led to improved posture as compared to no CAT (time by group interaction, p = .044). Discussion: CAT may be an effective intervention to improve QOL in this population. Because initial evidence suggests that posture also improves with CAT, further investigation of posture as a potential objective biomarker of QOL is supported. Further study with a randomized controlled trial is warranted.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Fatigue, pain, and anxiety, symptoms commonly experienced by children with cancer, may predict pediatric symptom suffering profile membership that is amenable to treatment. METHODS Three latent profiles (Low, Medium, and High symptom suffering) from 436 pediatric patients undergoing cancer care were assessed for association with three single-item symptoms and socio-demographic variables. RESULTS Pediatric-PRO-CTCAE fatigue, pain, and anxiety severity scores at baseline were highly and significantly associated with the Medium and High Suffering profiles comprised of PROMIS pediatric symptom and function measures. The likelihood of membership in the Medium Suffering group was 11.37 times higher for patients who experienced fatigue severity than those with did not, while experience of pain severity increased the likelihood of the child's membership in the Medium Suffering profile by 2.59 times and anxiety by 3.67 times. The severity of fatigue increased the likelihood of presence in the High Suffering group by 2.99 times while pain severity increased the likelihood of the child's membership in the High Suffering profile by 6.36 times and anxiety by 16.75 times. Controlling for experience of symptom severity, older patients were more likely to be in the Higher or Medium Suffering profile than in the Low Suffering profile; no other socio-demographic or clinical variables had a significant effect on the latent profile classification. CONCLUSION Clinician knowledge of the strong association between fatigue, pain, and anxiety severity and suffering profiles may help focus supportive care to improve the cancer experience for children most at risk from time of diagnosis through treatment.

Abstract
Introduction: Children with cancer experience symptom distress which has been correlated with decreased quality of life (QOL). Creative arts therapy (CAT) encompasses the therapeutic use of creative arts which may improve QOL among children with cancer by affecting symptoms. Therefore, the research question was asked: Does CAT affect symptoms of pain, nausea, fatigue, anxiety, and mood in children with cancer? Methods: Based on the study question, a comprehensive literature search of PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Embase was completed. Inclusion criteria limited articles to specific symptom outcomes in two-group intervention studies in the English language. Selected articles were confirmed for inclusion by the study team, followed by group discussion to develop matrices with levels of evidence based on the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (Grade) guidelines. Results: Initial searches revealed 1,391 articles, screened to 44 for systematic review. Based on the inclusion criteria, 11 articles remained. Four studies had evidence levels graded as low, three were low to moderate, and four were moderate. Outcomes of mood and anxiety were measured in five studies, pain in four, fatigue in two, and nausea in one study. Discussion: Psychological outcomes were measured more commonly than physical outcomes. Evidence reached a moderate grade in four studies. Summary: Through this synthesis of intervention studies with CAT in children with cancer, improvement in distressing symptoms has potential, but the state of the science for symptom management with CAT could be strengthened for nurses to promote CAT to improve QOL among children with cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of individual mandala drawing methods on psychological symptoms, anxiety and depression in hospitalised adolescents with cancer. METHODS A randomised controlled trial design with repeated measures was conducted. The study was carried out in a paediatric haematology and oncology clinic in Turkey. The study protocol is registered at ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04297982. The study sample consisted of 60 hospitalised adolescents aged between 12 and 17. Participants were randomly assigned to receive two 1- to 2-h mandala drawing sessions (intervention group, n = 30) or routine care only (control group, n = 30). Each adolescent was assessed using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and the Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale (Psychological subscale) questionnaires and was evaluated at baseline and after 5 days. RESULTS The anxiety and depression scores significantly decreased in the intervention group, compared with the control group, after 5 days of intervention, F(1, 57) = 28.9, p < 0.01, η2 = 0.337. Similarly, the psychological symptoms scores significantly decreased in the intervention group, compared with the control group, F(1, 57) = 69.7, p < 0.001, η2 = 0.550). CONCLUSION The individual mandala activity intervention was effective in reducing on psychological symptoms, anxiety and depressive symptoms in adolescents with cancer.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this work was to review scientific publications related to the use of visual arts in pediatric hospitals. BACKGROUND Visual arts, particularly painting, have historically played an important role in the design and atmosphere of healthcare spaces, especially hospitals. METHODS From 2000 to 2019, 79 publications located in relevant databases and manual searches were identified and analyzed. RESULTS Sixty of these publications include empirical studies and 19 theoretical models, comments, or reflections on the use of art in children's hospitals. Their analysis allows us to differentiate four groups of works: (a) "environmental" includes works whose purpose is to know how visual artistic interventions in the hospital can affect the people who see them, mainly pediatric patients, families, and health workers; (b) "participatory" includes studies aimed at knowing the effect of developing visual arts activities in the hospital; (c) "exploratory" includes works whose purpose was to know more about the children's perspective using their artistic expressions; and (d) "diagnostic" includes those that use children's drawings as a tool to diagnose diverse processes related to the pediatric patients' experience. CONCLUSIONS Taken together, the works we analyzed in our study support the use of visual arts in hospitals as a resource to enhance the well-being of children and families and their experience in the hospital. We indicate two particularly relevant aspects in this sense: the importance of the visual arts in improving the symbolic quality of hospitalization settings and the communication processes that occur in these environments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A small but significant number of children and adolescents with cancer experience severe physical and psychological distress. Previous studies have shown that drawing therapy positively affects relieving psychological problems. However, the effect of drawing therapy on pediatric oncology patients has not been established by systematic review. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to determine the effect of drawing therapy on the pediatric oncology population. METHODS PubMed, EMBASE, MEDLINE, Cochrane, PsycINFO, CINAHL, and Chinese databases including CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, and CBM were searched. Studies published in the English and Chinese languages up to December 2019 were screened, and randomized controlled trials and nonrandomized experimental studies of drawing therapy interventions for pediatric oncology patients were reviewed. Screening was undertaken independently by 2 reviewers. The review protocol was registered with PROSPERO (registration number: CRD42020178365). RESULTS Eight studies were included. Three studies were randomized controlled trials, and 5 studies were nonrandomized experimental studies. Seven studies showed that drawing therapy had positive effects on reducing depression and anxiety and improving quality of life. However, 1 study showed a contradictory result, that is, participants had an increased anxiety level after intervention. CONCLUSIONS Drawing therapy is effective in improving negative emotions, relieving somatic symptoms, and increasing social communication for pediatric oncology patients. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Drawing therapy may be considered an adjuvant psychological intervention strategy for pediatric oncology patients. Meanwhile, more rigorous studies are needed to address the deficiencies of small number size and methodological weakness.

Is it possible to obtain food consumption information through children's drawings? Comparison with the Free Listing. Appetite 2020; 160:105086. Abstract
The aims of this research were 1) to study the children's drawings to obtain scientific information about food consumption; 2) to compare this method with an existing one (Free Listing); and 3) to compare fruits- and vegetables-consumed by children of different cultural groups within a same country. Children (n = 105) from two Argentinian cities (Salta in the northwest and 9 de Julio in the Pampean region), reported the fruits and vegetables they consumed, with the Free Listing and the new Free Drawing methods. Contingency tables were built and cognitive saliency indexes (CSI) were calculated. Children evoked 57 fruits and 54 vegetables by both methods, which were then grouped into 31 fruit and 27 vegetable categories. The advantages and limitations of the methods are discussed. Throughout Free Drawing, each food was defined by its name, shape and colour, which allowed better discrimination between varieties. Children from Salta reported consuming more fruits (63.7%) and vegetables (68.6%) than those from 9 de Julio (p < 0.05). Differences between cultural groups were found in 10 fruits and 7 vegetables, mentioned more frequently in Salta, where regional crops arose principally by Free Listing. The CSI did not depend on the method used but, for vegetables, they were affected by the cultural group. The fruits with the greatest CSI were banana and apples followed by orange (CSI≥0.19). Tomatoes, carrot and pumpkins showed the highest CSI in 9 de Julio; while carrot, tomatoes, varieties of lettuce and potatoes had the highest CSI in Salta (0.17 ≤ CSI≤0.33). Free Drawing is a qualitative alternative to study food consumption in children populations through a fun activity without the need for assistants.

Abstract
Climate change is raising the length and intensity of the warm season in the academic year, with a very significant impact on indoor classroom conditions. Increasingly frequent episodes of extreme heat are having an adverse effect on school activities, whose duration may have to be shortened or pace slackened. Fitting facilities with air conditioning does not always solve the problem and may even contribute to discomfort or worsen health conditions, often as a result of insufficient ventilation. Users have traditionally adopted measures to adapt to these situations, particularly in warm climates where mechanical refrigeration is absent or unavailable. Implementation of such measures or of natural ventilation is not always possible or their efficacy is limited in school environments, however. Such constraints, especially in a context where reasonable energy use and operating costs are a primary concern, inform the need to identify the factors that contribute to users’ perceptions of comfort. This study deploys a post-occupancy strategy combined with participatory action to empower occupants as agents actively engaging in their own comfort. It addresses user-identified classroom comfort parameters potentially applicable in the design and layout of thermally suitable spaces meriting occupant acceptance.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To date, there has been a paucity of studies conducted on the experiences of children under hospital contact isolation precautions. Furthermore, the studies that have examined children's experiences at the hospital typically reflect the perspectives of their parents, and few have directly involved interviews with children themselves, and even fewer with children in isolation. METHODS To address this gap, we conducted semi-structured, open-ended interviews with hospitalized children to assess their experiences of being placed in isolation. Where possible, the children's parents also completed written surveys to assess parental perspectives on their child's experiences. RESULTS Two important findings of the study were the children's resilience during a difficult time and children's varying awareness of the pathophysiology of infections as it relates to isolation precautions. Examination of the parent-child dyads elucidated some discordance between parents' and children's perspectives on how children experienced their isolation, on what the children's preferred activities were while in isolation, and how much children understood about the reasons they were in isolation. CONCLUSION This study supports earlier studies that suggest that the benefits of isolation procedures may be outweighed by how negatively isolation is experienced by patients, particularly when the patients are children. It also highlights the need for child-friendly isolation signs. Because parental and child perceptions differed in cases where data from both were available, this study suggests larger studies on children's perspectives and/or on parent-child dyads are needed.

Abstract
Introduction: As more children survive cancer, attention must be paid to their quality of life (QOL). Integrative therapies are an ideal modality for nurses to advocate for reducing distress and improving QOL for children with cancer. Creative arts therapy is a type of integrative health that may improve QOL in this population. Therefore, the research question was asked, "For children with cancer, what opportunities exist for creative arts therapy to reduce distress?" Method: A metasynthesis of the extant qualitative research was conducted to answer the research question. Seven qualitative studies were identified, which included 162 participants. New themes were identified through rigorous analyzation by the study team of each study as individual data. Results: Four derived analytic themes emerged through the analysis: (a) connection is established through creative expression, (b) coping is facilitated by creative arts, (c) communication is enabled by creative arts interventions, and (d) continuance (the concept of time) is experienced through creative arts. Examples of each theme with subthemes are delineated, including expressive quotes. Summary: Through this qualitative synthesis of studies with creative arts therapy, evocative opportunities to reduce the distress associated with the disease experience are revealed. Nurses are called now to promote creative arts therapy to improve the symptoms in children with cancer.

Abstract
Aim: To report an analysis of the concept of creative arts therapy (CAT) in the context of pediatric cancer. Background: Literature supports the intuitive conclusion that creative interventions improve a patient's journey through the cancer trajectory. However, a new definition is needed to encompass CAT and creative expression interventions in order to better understand the concept of creativity in health care, specifically in pediatric oncology. Design: Concept analysis. Data Sources: The scientific databases CINAHL, PsycInfo (Ovid), AMED (Allied and Complementary Medicine), and PubMed were queried for English language research articles published between 2008 and 2018 using the search terms: creative arts therapy and cancer. Method: The Walker and Avant method of concept analysis was implemented. Results: CAT is a broad concept bringing creative arts in a therapeutic manner to children with cancer. Attributes include expression of feelings; creating art, music, or movement; and improvement of symptoms. CAT is frequently measured using quality of life and symptom assessment scales. Antecedents include the diagnosis of cancer, the distress caused by cancer, and a child's willingness to participate in creative activity. Consequences include improved quality of life, improved sense of well-being, decreased psychosocial symptoms, and less cancer pain. Conclusion: The literature supports CAT as a concept that may decrease distress for children with cancer.

Abstract
Objective: This experimental randomized controlled trial will be to examine the impact of a technology-based psychosocial motivation program on children and families who are being followed up on a diagnosis of cancer. Methods: The research is based on the “Transactional Model of Stress and Coping.” This study will be conducted on children with leukemia, aged 9–18 years, and their parents, who will be followed in the consolidation treatment phase in the hematology wards and outpatient clinic of a university hospital. Data collection will consist of the children's and parents' descriptive characteristic form, the Spielberger State Anxiety Inventory for Parents, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children, the Pediatric Cancer Coping Scale, the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory, and process evaluation forms. A 10-week program will be implemented for the children in the intervention group through web-based training, coaching interviews and counseling via video mobile calls, mobile messages and children's stories, progressive muscle relaxation and breathing exercises, and imagination interventions. During the same period, parents will also receive web-based training, coaching sessions, counseling, mobile messages, and progressive muscle relaxation exercises. Results: It is thought that after the intervention the stress level of the child and the family will decrease, the coping skills of the children will improve, and their quality of life will increase. Conclusions: It is thought that the treatment process can be affected positively by providing psychosocial support to children and their families who receive cancer treatment.

Abstract
PURPOSE This cross-sectional study described how school-aged children with cancer represent their symptoms and associated characteristics using draw-and-tell interviews. PARTICIPANTS & SETTING 27 children aged 6-12 years receiving treatment for cancer at the Cancer Transplant Center at Primary Children's Hospital, a tertiary pediatric hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. METHODOLOGIC APPROACH Children participated in draw-and-tell interviews while completing drawings depicting days when they felt well and days when they felt sick. Children's drawings and accompanying explanations were analyzed qualitatively. FINDINGS Children's drawings related symptoms and the strategies children used to self-manage those symptoms. Nausea, fatigue, pain, and sadness were the most frequently reported symptoms. Strategies to manage symptoms most often included physical and psychosocial care strategies. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING Children with cancer were able to relate detailed descriptions of their symptoms and symptom self-management strategies when presented with developmentally sensitive approaches. Healthcare providers are well positioned to integrate arts-based approaches to symptom assessment and to support children in implementing their preferred strategies to alleviate symptoms.

Abstract
Increased incidence of children diagnosed with cancer and survivors was an impact on changes in pediatric hemato-oncology nursing care. In this review article, it is aimed to investigate the new trends and recent care approaches in pediatric oncology nursing. The recent care topics were common in the literature as family-centered care, technology-based care, program development, primary care of child, health-care provider, survivors and home care, and nonpharmacological care. All of the topics contribute to perform evidence-based care for health promotion and well-being in pediatric hemato-oncology nursing. Research reviews showed that many current topics for the care of children and their parents have entered in the literature. There is a need for more randomized controlled studies to improve the level of evidence of new nursing approaches.
