Abstract
Au-graphene quantum dots (GQDs)@Pt core-shell nanodendrites are synthesized through a two-step reduction approach, in which Au forms the core, GQDs form an intermediate layer and dendritic Pt forms the shell. Among the above synthesized catalysts, the GQDs can manipulate the binding of reaction intermediates on the Pt surface as well as assemble π-π * conjugate bonds, thus forming a dendritic Pt shell instead of a compact Pt shell. The obtained core-shell structure was characterized by transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive x-ray and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The methanol electro-oxidation was investigated in alkaline media on the Au-GQDs@Pt modified electrode via cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analysis. In particular, we discovered that Au-Pt assembled with GQDs could dramatically improve the activity and stability of the catalysts, owing to the synergistic effect raised by the GQDs, which exhibit prominent electron conductivity and great chemical/physical stability. It was also found that the Pt/Au mole ratios could control the Pt shell thickness, which significantly affected the catalytic methanol oxidation activity of the Au-GQDs@Pt nanodendrites. The Au-GQDs@Pt nanodendrites with optimum Pt/Au mole ratios of 1.0 exhibited a 2.5 times increase in electrocatalytic activity toward methanol oxidation compared with the commercial catalyst (Pt/C), and its CO tolerance was also greatly improved. The above results show that the Au-GQDs@Pt nanocatalysts have potential application prospects in direct methanol fuel cells.

Abstract
The research for highly efficient and stable electrocatalysts in fuel cells has attracted substantial interest. Herein, bimetallic alloyed Pt71Co29 lamellar nanoflowers (LNFs) with abundant active sites were obtained by a one-pot solvothermal method, where cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC) and 1-nitroso-2-naphthol (1-N-2-N) served as co-structure-directors, while oleylamine (OAm) as the solvent and reducing agent. The fabricated Pt71Co29 LNFs exhibited the higher mass activity (MA, 128.29 mA mg-1) for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) than those of home-made Pt48Co52 nanodendrites (NDs), Pt79Co21 NDs and commercial Pt black with the values of 39.46, 49.42 and 22.91 mA mg-1, respectively. Meanwhile, the MA (666.23 mA mg-1) and specific activity (SA, 2.51 mA cm-2) of the constructed Pt71Co29 LNFs for methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) are superior than those of Pt48Co52 NDs (213.91 mA mg-1, 1.99 mA cm-2), Pt79Co21 NDs (210.09 mA mg-1, 1.12 mA cm-2) and Pt black (57.03 mA mg-1, 0.25 mA cm-2). Also, the Pt71Co29 LNFs catalyst exhibited the best durable ability relative to the references. This work demonstrates that the developed strategy provides a facile platform for synthesis of high-performance, low-cost and robust catalysts in practical catalysis, energy storage and conversion.

Abstract
In the present study, the carbon supported Pd, PdAg and PdAgNi (Pd/C, PdAg/C and PdAgNi/C) electrocatalysts are prepared via NaBH4 reduction method at varying molar atomic ratio for formic acid electrooxidation. These as-prepared electrocatalysts are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), N2 adsorption-desorption, and X-ray electron spectroscopy (XPS), cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), chronoamperometry (CA), and lineer sweep voltammetry (LSV). While Pd50Ag50/C exhibits the highest catalytic activity among the bimetallic electrocatalyst, it is observed that Pd70Ag20Ni10/C electrocatalysts have the best performance among the all electrocatalysts. Its maximum current density is about 1.92 times higher than that of Pd/C (0.675 mA cm-2). Also, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), chronoamperometry (CA) and lineer sweep voltammetry (LSV) results are in a good agreement with CV results in terms of stability and electrocatalytic activity of Pd50Ag50/C and Pd70Ag20Ni10/C. The Pd70Ag20Ni10/C catalyst is believed to be a promising anode catalyst for the direct formic acid fuel cell.

Abstract
This study introduces a novel competent dendritic copper oxide-platinum nanocatalyst (nano-Cu2O-Pt) immobilized onto a glassy carbon (GC) substrate for formic acid (FA) electro-oxidation (FAO); the prime reaction in the anodic compartment of direct formic acid fuel cells (DFAFCs). Interestingly, the proposed catalyst exhibited an outstanding improvement for FAO compared to the traditional platinum nanoparticles (nano-Pt) modified GC (nano-Pt/GC) catalyst. This was evaluated from steering the reaction mechanism toward the desired direct route producing carbon dioxide (CO2); consistently with mitigating the other undesired indirect pathway producing carbon monoxide (CO); the potential poison deteriorating the catalytic activity of typical Pt-based catalysts. Moreover, the developed catalyst showed a reasonable long-term catalytic stability along with a significant lowering in onset potential of direct FAO that ultimately reduces the polarization and amplifies the fuel cell's voltage. The observed catalytic enhancement was believed to originate bifunctionally; while nano-Pt represented the base for the FA adsorption, nanostructured copper oxide (nano-Cu2O) behaved as a catalytic mediator facilitating the charge transfer during FAO and providing the oxygen atmosphere inspiring the poison's (CO) oxidation at relatively lower potential. Surprisingly, moreover, nano-Cu2O induced a surface retrieval of nano-Pt active sites by capturing the poisoning CO via "a spillover mechanism" to renovate the Pt surface for the direct FAO. Finally, the catalytic tolerance of the developed catalyst toward halides' poisoning was discussed.

Abstract
Nanoparticles composed of two different metal elements show novel electronic, optical, catalytic or photocatalytic properties from monometallic nanoparticles. Bimetallic nanoparticles could show not only the combination of the properties related to the presence of two individual metals, but also new properties due to a synergy between two metals. The structure of bimetallic nanoparticles can be oriented in random alloy, alloy with an intermetallic compound, cluster-in-cluster or core-shell structures and is strictly dependent on the relative strengths of metal-metal bond, surface energies of bulk elements, relative atomic sizes, preparation method and conditions, etc. In this review, selected properties, such as structure, optical, catalytic and photocatalytic of noble metals-based bimetallic nanoparticles, are discussed together with preparation routes. The effects of preparation method conditions as well as metal properties on the final structure of bimetallic nanoparticles (from alloy to core-shell structure) are followed. The role of bimetallic nanoparticles in heterogeneous catalysis and photocatalysis are discussed. Furthermore, structure and optical characteristics of bimetallic nanoparticles are described in relation to the some features of monometallic NPs. Such a complex approach allows to systematize knowledge and to identify the future direction of research.
