Highly Selective Amide-tethered 4-aminoquinoline-β-lactam Based Electrochemical Sensors for Zn (II) ion Recognition

A sensitive and rapid determination of zinc ion (Zn2+) using electrochemical sensor based on f-MWCNTs/CS/PB/AuE in drinking water

An electrochemical method for detecting the presence of zinc (Zn²⁺) ions in drinking water was developed using functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (f-MWCNTs) and chitosan (CS). Numerous cylinder-shaped graphene molecules make up f-MWCNTs, which have a high mechanical and electrical conductivity. CS benefits from nanomaterials include biocompatibility, biodegradability, and low toxicity, which are excellent in capacity absorption of metal ions. Dangerous levels of metal ions such as zinc are currently present in drinking water as a result of human and natural activity. Zinc toxicity is associated with a variety of disorders, including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, diabetes, and cancer. This study incorporated f-MWCNTs and CS with Prussian blue (PB) immobilised on a gold electrode (AuE). Several parameters, including as buffers, pH, scan rate, redox indicator, accumulation time, and volume, were optimised using the cyclic voltammetry (CV) method. According to the CV method, the optimal parameters were phosphate buffered saline (0.1 M, pH 2), 5 mM Prussian blue, 200 mVs^-1 scan rate, and 5 s accumulation time. Under ideal circumstances, the differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) method was used to determine the Zn²⁺ ions concentration range of 0.2-7.0 ppm. The limit of detection (LOD) was 2.60 × 10^-7 mol L^-1 with a correlation coefficient of R² = 0.9777. The recovery rate of the developed sensor (f-MWCNTs/CS/PB/AuE) ranged from 95.78 to 98.96%. The developed sensor showed a variety of advantages for detecting Zn²⁺ in drinking water, including a quick setup process, quick detection, high sensitivity, and mobility. This study developed the essential sensor for monitoring Zn²⁺ levels in drinking water in the future.

A novel electrochemical sensor based on Au nanoparticles/8-aminoquinoline functionalized graphene oxide nanocomposite for paraquat detection

In this paper, a novel electrochemical sensor based on Au nanoparticles/8-aminoquinoline functionalized graphene oxide (AuNPs/GAQ) nanocomposite was developed and tested for the first time for detection of paraquat (PQ). The morphology and composition of AuNPs/GAQ nanocomposite were characterized by various techniques, including transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry were utilized to investigate the electrochemical performances of AuNPs/GAQ nanocomposite modified glassy carbon electrode. The obtained modified electrode exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity towards detection of PQ. Under the optimized conditions, the proposed sensor showed low detection limit (6 nM, S/N = 3), wide linear range (0.02-24 μM), high selectivity and good stability. In addition, it was successfully applied for detection of PQ in natural water samples with satisfactory results.

A new unsymmetrical azine derivative based on coumarin group as dual-modal sensor for CN- and fluorescent "OFF-ON" for Zn2

A simple chemosensor YS based on coumarin group was designed and synthesized. Its structure was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. In the presence of cyanide the sensor showed an immediate visible change in color from colorless to pale yellow by naked-eyes and produced a strong blue fluorescence rapidly in DMSO/H₂O (3:7, v/v). The detection limit on fluorescence response of the sensor to CN^- is down to 1.69×10^-7M. In addition YS could show fluorescence turn-on response rapidly for Zn²⁺ over other metals ions such as Fe³⁺, Hg²⁺, Ag⁺, Ca²⁺, Cu²⁺, Co²⁺, Ni²⁺, Cd²⁺, Pb²⁺, Cr³⁺ and Mg²⁺ in aqueous solutions. Notably, this sensor served as a molecular switch, which was controlled by Zn²⁺ and EDTA cyclically. Test strips based on YS were fabricated, which could act as a convenient and efficient CN^- and Zn²⁺ test kit. This chemosensor could achieve the detection of two ions, which need not depend on two different sensors.

A quantitative appraisal of the binding interactions between an anionic dye, Alizarin Red S, and alkyloxypyridinium surfactants: a detailed micellization, spectroscopic and electrochemical study

The interactions of an anionic redox-active dye Alizarin Red S (ARS) with novel N-hydroxyethyl-3-alkyloxypyridinium surfactants 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-3-(tetradecyloxy)pyridinium bromide, [HEC14OPyBr], and 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-3-(hexadecyloxy)pyridinium bromide, [HEC16OPyBr], were investigated in an aqueous solution for the first time with an attempt to obtain comprehensive knowledge of oppositely charged dye-surfactant mixed systems. Different state-of-the-art techniques viz. conductivity, surface tension (ST), UV-visible spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry (CV), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), potentiometry, dynamic light scattering (DLS) and (1)H-NMR analysis have been employed. The presence of ARS decreases the critical micelle concentration (cmc) of alkyloxypyridinium surfactants as the ARS monomers behave as aromatic counterions. A combined analysis of the techniques revealed the existence of cation-π, π-π stacking, H-bonding, electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions among ARS and alkyloxypyridinium surfactants. A quantitative appraisal of the process of interaction among ARS and alkyloxypyridinium surfactants has been made in terms of various micellar, binding and electrochemical parameters evaluated using ST, UV-visible and voltammetric measurements. Also, the results extracted from (1)H-NMR and voltammetric measurements indicate that the catechol moiety of ARS is involved in the binding mechanism among ARS and alkyloxypyridinium surfactants.

Detailed study of interactions between eosin yellow and gemini pyridinium surfactants

Interactions of dianionic dye, eosin yellow with gemini pyridinium surfactants have been investigated using conductivity, UV-visible, fluorescence, cyclic voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry, potentiometry and dynamic light scattering.
