Abstract
Amlodipine (AM) is a long active calcium channel blocker used to relax blood vessels by preventing calcium ion transport into the vascular walls and its supporting molecules acetaminophen (AP) and ascorbic acid (AA) are recommended for hypertension control and prevention. Considering their therapeutic importance and potential side effects due to over dosage, we have fabricated a sensor for individual and simultaneous determination of AA, AP, and AM in pharmaceuticals and human urine using novel Zn-doped Ca2CuO3 nanoparticles modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE). Optimally doped Ca2CuO3 (2.5 wt% Zn at Cu site) enhanced the detection of target molecules over much wider concentration ranges of 50 to 3130 µM for AA, 0.25 to 417 µM for AP, and 0.8 to 354 µM for AM with the corresponding lowest detection limits of 14 µM, 0.05 µM, and 0.07 µM, respectively. Furthermore, the Zn-Ca2CuO3/GCE exhibited excellent selectivity and high sensitivity even in the presence of several potential interfering agents. The usefulness of the developed electrode was tested using an amlodipine besylate tablet and urine samples of seven hypertension patients under medication. The results confirmed the presence of a significant amount of AP and AM in six patients' urine samples indicating that the personalized medication is essential and the quantum of medication need to be fixed by knowing the excess medicines excreted through urine. Thus, the Zn-Ca2CuO3/GCE with a high recovery percentage and good sensitivity shall be useful in the pharmaceutical and biomedical sectors.

Abstract
Five mini proteins mimicking uricase comprising 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 amino acids were designed based on the conserved active site residues within the same dimer, using the crystal structure of tetrameric uricase from Arthrobacter globiformis (PDB ID: 2yzb) as a template. Based on molecular docking analysis, the smallest mini protein, mp20, shared similar residues to that of native uricase that formed hydrogen bonds with uric acid and was chosen for further studies. Although purified recombinant mp20 did not exhibit uricase activity, it showed specific binding towards uric acid and evinced excellent thermotolerance and structural stability at temperatures ranging from 10°C to 100°C, emulating its natural origin. To explore the potential of mp20 as a bioreceptor in uric acid sensing, mp20 was encapsulated within zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (mp20@ZIF-8) followed by the modification on rGO-screen printed electrode (rGO/SPCE) to maintain the structural stability. An irreversible anodic peak and increased semicircular arcs of the Nyquist plot with an increase of the analyte concentrations were observed by utilizing cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), suggesting the detection of uric acid occurred, which is based on substrate-mp20 interaction.

Abstract
In this work, we successfully constructed a label-free electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunosensor for the detection of breast cancer marker antigen (CA15-3). In particular, 3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic acid (PTCA) is cleverly attached to the surface of silica spheres as a luminophore (NH2-SiO2-PTCA), which greatly alleviates the disadvantage of PTCA anti-induced aggregated luminescence and improves the ECL performance. Furthermore, Pt nanoparticles were used to dope CeO2 and introducing reduced graphene oxide (rGO) to prepare CeO2/Pt/rGO composites as a novel co-reaction accelerator. Among them, Pt nanoparticles were used to improve the electrical conductivity of CeO2, and the use of rGO as a substrate allows for a more uniform dispersion of CeO2 to increase the catalytic surface area, which effectively improves the performance of the co-reaction accelerator and thus increasing the ECL intensity of the PTCA/S2O82- system. Under the optimal conditions, the designed ECL immunosensor showed satisfactory results in the determination of CA15-3 with a linear range of 12.00 mU mL-1 - 120.00 U mL-1 and a low detection limit of 1.348 mU mL-1. Importantly, the resulting biosensor has good stability, high sensitivity and reliable reproducibility, suggesting its potential application in clinical research.

Abstract
A promising sensing platform based on polyoxometalate-based metal-organic framework (POMOF) was established for sensitive electrochemical detection of xanthine (XA). In the unique structure of POMOF, the Dawson polyoxoanions P2W18 were encapsulated into 3D open copper-mixed ligand nanotube framework Cu-MOF, in which the cavity of the metal-organic framework provides a specific shelter to prevent the aggregation and loss of polyoxometalate in electrocatalytic reactions; meanwhile, unsaturated Cu(II) active sites of Cu-MOF can also serve as electrocatalytic active center. The POMOF-based sensor (CuMOFP2W18/XC-72R) was fabricated by using acetylene black (XC-72R) as a support material to enhance the conductivity of POMOF. The performances of the POMOF-based sensor were studied by using different electrochemical testing methods. The composite displayed remarkable electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of XA due to the synergistic effect of polyoxometalate (POM) and metal-organic framework (MOF). The electrochemical sensor demonstrated a wide linear range (0.5 μM-240 μM), low detection limit (0.26 μM), and excellent selectivity for detecting XA. Furthermore, the composite further demonstrated excellent reproducibility and great stability. More importantly, the proposed sensor was utilized to detect XA in real samples, which may provide a new way for early disease diagnosis.

Abstract
Graphene-based nanomaterials with remarkable properties, such as good biocompatibility, strong mechanical strength, and outstanding electrical conductivity, have dramatically shown excellent potential in various applications. Increasing surface area and porosity percentage, improvement of adsorption capacities, reduction of adsorption energy barrier, and also prevention of agglomeration of graphene layers are the main advantages of functionalized graphene nanocomposites. On the other hand, Cerium nanostructures with remarkable properties have received a great deal of attention in a wide range of fields; however, in some cases low conductivity limits their application in different applications. Therefore, the combination of cerium structures and graphene networks has been widely invesitaged to improve properties of the composite. In order to have a comprehensive information of these nanonetworks, this research reviews the recent developments in cerium functionalized graphene derivatives (graphene oxide (GO), reduced graphene oxide (RGO), and graphene quantum dot (GQD) and their industrial applications. The applications of functionalized graphene derivatives have also been successfully summarized. This systematic review study of graphene networks decorated with different structure of Cerium have potential to pave the way for scientific research not only in field of material science but also in fluorescent sensing, electrochemical sensing, supercapacitors, and catalyst as a new candidate.

Abstract
In this study, we prepared a three-dimensional self-supported electrocatalyst based on a thin layer of cerium oxide nanocrystals doped with cobalt heteroatoms (CeO2-Co) and then uniformly shelled over one-dimensional tin oxide (SnO2) nanorods supported by carbon cloth substrate. The material was used as a binder-free sensor that could nonenzymatically detect xanthine (XA) with an excellent sensitivity of 3.56 μA μM-1, wide linear range of 25 nM to 55 µM, low detection limit of 58 nM, and good selectivity. A screen-printed electrode based on the material accurately detected XA in food samples as well. The achievements were resulted from synergistic effects coming from the unique core@shell formation and Co-doping strategy, which efficiently modified electronic structure of the material to expose more electroactive site numbers/types and fast charge transfer, thereby producing intrinsic catalytic properties for XA oxidation. These results suggested that the SnO2@CeO2-Co is potential for developing efficient sensor to detect XA with good sensitivity and accuracy in food-quality monitoring.

Abstract
Monodispersed Au nanoparticles in ordered mesoporous carbon/silica (Au/OMCS) nanocomposites were prepared by the solvent evaporation induced self-assembly. Au/OMCS nanocomposites were characterized through XRD, BET, and TEM. The obtained nanocomposites exhibit uniform mesopores with the size of 18 ± 2 nm. And ultrafine Au nanoparticles with the size of 3~7 nm are well dispersed in the cavities. An ultrasensitive nanoenzyme sensor was fabricated based on a Au/OMCS-modified electrode. The Au/OMCS-modified electrode displays high xanthine oxidase-like catalytic activity evaluated through cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The DPV response currents are linearly dependent on concentrations of xanthine (Xa) in the range 0.10-20 μM, along with a high sensitivity of 6.84 μA μM-1 cm-2 and very low detection limit of 0.006 μM (S/N = 3) under the optimal working potential of 0.64 V vs. SCE. Interference experiments show that the nanoenzyme sensor has no obvious responses to most potentially interfering species at a potential of 0.64 V. The fabricated sensor has been applied to the determination of Xa in spiked urine samples with recoveries ranging from 98.26 to 101.4%. Graphical abstract.

Abstract
A novel ZnO-CeO2-rGO (ZCG) ternary nanocomposite with varying ZnO/CeO2 weight proportions was synthesized by a hydrothermal process for photoelectrochemical water splitting and photocatalytic application. XRD diffraction peaks of ZCG nanocomposites displayed the patterns of ZnO and CeO2 nanoparticles, and SEM revealed irregular flake-like particles, which were uniformly decorated on the rGO matrix. Increase in the intensity ratio of D and G bands from Raman spectra revealed changes in oxygen bonding in the ZnO-rGO (ZG) and ZCG nanocomposites. The shift in the band edge positions and the decrease in the band gap with increase in the cerium oxide content in ZCG composites were observed from UV-Vis and Mott-Schottky plots. XPS results showed that Ce3+ fraction increased with an increase in the cerium oxide content in ZCG nanocomposites. The ZCG3 (85:15) nanocomposite exhibited decreased electron-hole recombination rate as evidenced from the photoluminescence and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy Nyquist plots. The characteristic frequency in Bode's plot shifted to a lower frequency for the ZCG3 electrode demonstrating low interfacial charge transfer resistance, and ZCG3 photoelectrode displayed a higher photocurrent density of 0.69 mA/cm2 at 1.5 V compared with other photoelectrode. The optimized and highly efficient ZCG3 nanocomposite exhibited improved photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) with a reaction rate constant of 0.0201 min-1. Combination of defects in the form of Ce3+ ion and surface oxygen vacancies coupled with rGO as the electron acceptor improved the charge carrier density and carrier transport in addition to the formation Schottky-type junction and the presence of an internal electric field.

Abstract
Multi-metallic alloy nanoparticles (NPs) can enable the advanced applications in the energy, biology, electronics, optics and catalysis due to their multi-functionality, wide tunable range and electronic heterogeneity. In this work, various mono-, bi- and tri-metallic nanostructures composed of Ag, Au and Pt are demonstrated on transparent c-plane sapphire (0001) substrates and the corresponding morphological and optical characteristics are thoroughly investigated. The resulting Pt and AuPt NPs in this study demonstrate much enhanced LSPR responses as compared to the pure Pt NPs from the previous studies, which was contributed by the synergistic effect of Au and Pt and improved surface morphology. These results are sharply distinct in terms of surface morphology and elemental variability from those obtained by the dewetting of monometallic Ag, Au and Pt films under the similar growth conditions, which is due to the distinct dewetting kinetics of the bi-layer and tri-layer films. These NPs exhibit strongly enhanced localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) bands in the UV-VIS wavelengths such as dipolar, quadrupolar, multipolar and higher order resonance modes depending upon the size and elemental composition of NPs. The LSPR bands are much stronger with the high Ag content and gradually attenuated with the Ag sublimation. Furthermore, the VIS region LSPR bands are readily blue shifted along with the reduction of NP size. The Ag/Pt bi-layers and Ag/Au/Pt tri-layers are systematically dewetted and transformed into various AgPt and AgAuPt nanostructures such as networked, elongated and semispherical configurations by means of enhanced surface diffusion, intermixing and energy minimization along with the temperature control. The sublimation of Ag atoms plays a significant role in the structural and elemental composition of NPs such that more isolated and semispherical Pt and AuPt NPs are evolved from the AgPt and AgAuPt NPs respectively.

is a novel selective xanthine oxidase inhibitor approved for the treatment of hyperuricemia.
Objective:
The aim of this study was to develop a first analytical method for the simultaneous determination
of febuxostat and uric acid.
Methods:
An unmodified boron-doped diamond electrode provided concurrent quantitation of drug at
low levels and uric acid, which has clinical significance in the diagnosis and therapy of hyperuricemia,
at relatively high concentrations. The direct square-wave voltammetric method was applied to the
analysis of both analytes in human serum samples.
Results:
Under the optimized conditions, the linear response of peak current on febuxostat concentration
was achieved in the range from 7.5 × 10-7 to 3 × 10-5 M, while uric acid showed two linear ranges
of 5 × 10-6 - 5 × 10-5 M and 5 × 10-5 - 2 × 10-4 M. The method was successfully utilised for quantification
of both analytes in human serum samples. Good recoveries were obtained without interference
from common inorganic cations and anions as well as glucose, dopamine, ascorbic and folic acids at
concentrations expected in physiological conditions.
Conclusion:
The great benefits of developed method are fast analysis (only 7.5 s for run), low cost
and simplicity of performance.

RSC Adv 2019; 9:2772-2783. Abstract
Two heteropolytungstate structures, Keggin (H3PW12O40) and Preyssler (H14[NaP5W30O110]), were used to synthesize conductive silver nanoparticle–polyaniline–heteropolytungstate (AgNPs–PAni–HPW) nanocomposites. During the oxidative polymerization of aniline, heteropolyblue was generated and served as the reducing agent to stabilize and distribute AgNPs within “PAni–Keggin” and “PAni–Preyssler” matrixes as well as on their surfaces. The prepared nanocomposites and AgNPs were characterized using UV-visible (UV-Vis) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), pore size distribution BET, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). UV-Vis results showed different stages of the formation of metal NPs embedded in the polymer–HPW composites, and FT-IR spectra presented characteristic bands of PAni, Keggin and Preyssler anions in the composites confirming no changes in their structures. The presence of AgNPs and an intensely crystalline matrix were confirmed by the XRD pattern. The BET surface areas were found to be 38.426 m2 g−1 for “AgNPs–PAni–Keggin” and 29.977 m2 g−1 for “AgNPs–PAni–Preyssler” nanocomposites with broad distributions of meso-porous structure for both nanocomposites. TEM and SEM images confirmed that the type of heteropolyacids affected the size of AgNPs. This is the first report that uses Keggin and Preyssler-type heteropolytungstate to synthesize “AgNPs–PAni–HPW” nanocomposites in an ambient condition through a low-cost, facile, one-pot, environmentally friendly and simultaneous in situ oxidative polymerization protocol. Two heteropolytungstate structures, (a) Keggin (H3PW12O40) and (b) Preyssler (H14(NaP5W30O110]), have been used to synthesize conductive silver nanoparticle–polyaniline–heteropolytungstate, (AgNPs–PAni–HPW) nanocomposites.![]()
