Abstract
The catalytic performance of modified hydroxyapatite nanoparticles, Ca10-xFex-yWy(PO4)6(OH)2, was applied for the degradation of methylene blue (MB), fast green FCF (FG) and norfloxacin (NOR). XPS analysis pointed to the successful partial replacement of Ca by Fe. Under photo-electro-Fenton process, the catalyst Ca4FeII1·92W0·08FeIII4(PO4)6(OH)2 was combined with UVC radiation and electrogenerated H2O2 in a Printex L6 carbon-based gas diffusion electrode. The application of only 10 mA cm-2 resulted in 100% discoloration of MB and FG dyes in 50 min of treatment at pH 2.5, 7.0 and 9.0. The proposed treatment mechanism yielded maximum TOC removal of ∼80% and high mineralization current efficiency of ∼64%. Complete degradation of NOR was obtained in 40 min, and high mineralization of ∼86% was recorded after 240 min of treatment. Responses obtained from LC-ESI-MS/MS are in line with the theoretical Fukui indices and the ECOSAR data. The study enabled us to predict the main degradation route and the acute and chronic toxicity of the by-products formed during the contaminants degradation.

Abstract
Herein, a Bi2S3/Cu2S was successfully synthesized via a simple one-step wet impregnation process. The compositional behavior and electrical and optical properties of photocatalysts were investigated in detail. Photocatalytic technology has shown great promise in wastewater treatment, splitting water to hydrogen, and converting CO2 to fuel. Researchers or scientist are attempting to design sulfate-based heterojunction photocatalytic systems in order to develop novel photocatalysts with excellent performance. Photodegradation of methylene blue (MB) dye and tetracycline (TC) drug under visible light irradiation was used to assess the photocatalytic activity of as-prepared samples. As a result, 2:1% wt of Bi2S3/Cu2S heterostructure composite revealed superior visible light degradation performing of MB dye, and TC drug efficiency as 90.2% and 87.5%, respectively. The prepared hybrid photocatalyst has demonstated a potential for use in the photocatalytic degradation of antibiotic durgs and dyes, indicating a promissing future for its application.

Abstract
The elimination of dyes discharged from industrial wastewater into water bodies is crucial due to its detrimental effects on aquatic organisms and potential carcinogenic impact on human health. Various methods are employed for dye removal, but they often fall short in completely degrading the dyes and generating large amounts of suspended solids. Hence, there is a critical need for an efficient process that can achieve complete dye degradation with minimal waste emission. Among traditional water treatment approaches, photocatalysis stands out as a promising method for degrading diverse toxic and organic pollutants present in wastewater. In this review, the heterogeneous photocatalysis process is well explained for dye removal. This comprehensive review not only provides insightful illumination on the classification of dyes but also thoroughly explains various dye removal methods and the underlying mechanisms of photocatalysis. Furthermore, factors which effect the activity of the photocatalysis process are also explained in detail. Likewise, we categorized the heterogeneous photocatalyst in three generations and observed their activity for dye removal. This review also addresses the challenges and effectiveness of this promising field. Its primary aim is to offer a comprehensive overview of the photocatalytic degradation of pollution and to explore its potential for further future applications.

Abstract
Photocatalytic degradation of dye contaminants using nanocomposite adsorbents has emerged as a promising solution for wastewater treatment. Owing to its abundant availability, eco-friendly composition, biocompatibility, and strong adsorption activity, spent tea leaf (STL) powder has been extensively explored as a viable dye-adsorbent material. In this work, we report spectacular enhancement in the dye-degradation properties of STL powder on incorporation of ZnIn2S4 (ZIS). The STL/ZIS composite was synthesized using a novel, benign, and scalable aqueous chemical solution method. Comparative degradation and reaction kinetics studies were performed onto an anionic dye, Congo red (CR), and two cationic dyes, Methylene blue (MB) and Crystal violet (CV). The degradation efficiencies of CR, MB, and CV dyes were obtained to be 77.18, 91.29, and 85.36%, respectively, using the STL/ZIS (30%) composite sample after the 120 min experiment. The spectacular improvement in the degradation efficiency of the composite was attributed to its slower charge transfer resistance (as concluded by the EIS study) and optimized surface charge (as concluded by ζ potential study). Scavenger tests and reusability tests deciphered the active species (•O2-) and reusability of the composite samples, respectively. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report to demonstrate improvement in the degradation efficiency of STL powder on ZIS incorporation.

Abstract
Sunlight-driven photocatalytic degradation is an effective and eco-friendly technology for the removal of organic pollutants from contaminated water. Herein, we describe the one-step synthesis of Cu-Cu2O-Cu3N nanoparticle mixtures using a novel non-aqueous, sol-gel route and their application in the solar-driven photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue. The crystalline structure and morphology were investigated with XRD, SEM and TEM. The optical properties of the as-prepared photocatalysts were investigated with Raman, FTIR, UV-Vis and photoluminescence spectroscopies. The influence of the phase proportions of Cu, Cu2O and Cu3N in the nanoparticle mixtures on the photocatalytic activity was also investigated. Overall, the sample containing the highest quantity of Cu3N exhibits the highest photocatalytic degradation efficiency (95%). This enhancement is attributed to factors such as absorption range broadening, increased specific surface of the photocatalysts and the downward band bending in the p-type semiconductors, i.e., Cu3N and Cu2O. Two different catalytic dosages were studied, i.e., 5 mg and 10 mg. The higher catalytic dosage exhibited lower photocatalytic degradation efficiency owing to the increase in the turbidity of the solution.

Abstract
Copper oxide (Cu2O) is a promising semiconductor for photovoltaic and photocatalytic applications since this material has a high optical absorption coefficient and lower band gap (2.17 eV). Doped lanthanum (La), magnesium (Mg) and manganese (Mn) Cu2O nanoparticles (Cu2O Nps) were prepared by a displacement reaction. The doped and undoped Cu2O Nps were characterized with scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. The EDS results confirm the presence of La, Mg and Mn in the Cu2O Nps. The XRD results confirm the formation a single cubic phase of Cu2O with a cuprite structure. TEM images confirm the formation of Nps with mean diameters between 12.0 ± 6.1 and 30.8 ± 11.0 nm. Doped and undoped Nps present a narrow band gap (2.40 eV), blue shifted with respect to bulk Cu2O.

Abstract
In the present work, the degradation of methylene blue (MB) was investigated by electron beam irradiation combined with graphite carbon nitride/carbon nanodots (EBI&g-C3N4/CDs). In comparison with EBI alone, the EBI&g-C3N4/CDs method showed a higher removal efficiency of high concentrations of MB (500 mg L-1) from aqueous solution. Investigation on the effect of the synthesized g-C3N4/CDs revealed that CDs and g-C3N4 were both contributing factors, while the latter could enhance the degradation of MB through surface reactions that occurred after adsorption. Experiments on the existence of hydrogen peroxide revealed the synergistic effect between g-C3N4/CDs and hydrogen peroxide. An excellent degradation effect was obtained at natural pH, and the total organic carbon was significantly reduced. Regeneration experiments revealed that the g-C3N4/CDs material has good stability and reusability. The studies in the presence of assorted radical scavengers suggested that ·OH played a vital role in the degradation process and a total of 17 intermediates were detected using liquid chromatograph-mass spectrometer (LC-MS) analysis. The possible degradation mechanisms of MB were proposed.

Abstract
The leaf extract of Ficus retusa plant was used for fabrication of α-MnO2 nanoparticles (NPs). The extract was utilized as a reducing agent for green synthesis of nanomaterial. The synthesis of nanocrystals was confirmed using different analytical techniques such as field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The synthesis of NPs was studied over a wide range of temperatures from 80 to 800 °C. It was found that perfectly crystalline α-MnO2 NPs were successfully synthesized at 800 °C. The synthesized NPs were applied as an adsorbent for adsorption of azo dyes such as methyl red (MR) and methyl orange (MO) which are released as wastes from industries into water bodies and pollute the water. The removal efficiency was analysed and optimized depending on various parameters like pH, concentration of NPs, and contact time. The experimental data was explained by three isotherm models, viz. Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin isotherms. Kinetic and thermodynamic studies of adsorption were also carried out, which depicted that the adsorption process of both dyes was exothermic in nature and followed pseudo-second-order kinetics. The results confirmed that NPs are easily fabricated through a green route and prove to be an excellent adsorbent for the removal of MO and MR dyes from their aqueous solutions. The maximum adsorption capacity of NPs synthesized was found to be 116.1 mg g-1 and 74.02 mg g-1 for MO and MR dyes, respectively. Graphical abstract.

Abstract
Energy is the fundamental requirement of all physical, chemical, and biological processes which are utilized for better living standards. The toll that the process of development takes on the environment and economic activity is evident from the arising concerns about sustaining the industrialization that has happened in the last centuries. The increase in carbon footprint and the large-scale pollution caused by industrialization has led researchers to think of new ways to sustain the developmental activities, whilst simultaneously minimizing the harming effects on the enviroment. Therefore, decarbonization strategies have become an important factor in industrial expansion, along with the invention of new catalytic methods for carrying out non-thermal reactions, energy storage methods and environmental remediation through the removal or breakdown of harmful chemicals released during manufacturing processes. The present article discusses the structural features and photocatalytic applications of a variety of metal oxide-based materials. Moreover, the practical applicability of these materials is also discussed, as well as the transition of production to an industrial scale. Consequently, this study deals with a concise framework to link metal oxide application options within energy, environmental and economic sustainability, exploring the footprint analysis as well.

Abstract
A series of CuOx–TiO2 photocatalysts were prepared using fresh and thermally activated Evonik Aeroxide P25 titanium dioxide. The photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, XANES, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and N2 adsorption technique. Photocatalytic activity of the samples was tested in hydrogen production from aqueous-alcoholic solutions of methylene blue under UV radiation (λ = 386 nm). It was found for the first time the synergistic effect of hydrogen production from two substrates—dye and ethanol. The maximum hydrogen production rate in the system water–ethanol–methylene blue was 1 μmol min−1, which is 25 times higher than a value measured in a 10% solution of ethanol in water. The thermal activation of titania also leads to a change in the rate of hydrogen production. The highest catalytic activity was observed for a CuOx–TiO2 photocatalyst based on titania thermally-activated at 600 °C in air. A mechanism of the photocatalytic reaction is discussed. Simultaneous presence of ethanol and methylene blue was shown to provide the most efficient hydrogen production and methylene blue removal.![]()
