Abstract
Carissa carandas, a traditional medicinal herb with a high concentration of antioxidant phytochemicals, has been used for thousands of years in the Ayurveda, Unani, and homoeopathic schools of medicine. By employing Carissa carandas bark extract as a reducing and capping agent in green biosynthesis, we extend this conventional application to produce CoFe2O4 and CoFe2O4@Ag nanocomposite. A variety of techniques have been used to characterize the synthesised nanocomposite, including UV-Vis, FTIR, XRD, FESEM, EDX, and BET. The CoFe2O4 and CoFe2O4@Ag nanocomposite demonstrated promising antibacterial action against human bacterial pathogens like B. subtilis and S. aureus as gram positive and P. aeruginosa and E. coli as gram negative with inhibition zones of 24.3 ± 0.57, 17.4 ± 0.75 and 20.5 ± 0.5, 19.8 ± 1.6 mm respectively, and the obtained results were superior to the nanocomposite without silver. Moreover, in-vitro cytotoxicity effects of biosynthesized CoFe2O4 and CoFe2O4@Ag were performed on the human breast cancer cell MCF-7. It was found that the MCF-7 cells' 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) was 60 μg/mL. Additionally, biosynthesized CoFe2O4 and CoFe2O4@Ag nanocomposite was used to demonstrate the photocatalytic eradication of Rhodamine Blue (RhB). Due to the addition of Ag, which increases surface area, conductivity, and increased charge carrier separation, the CoFe2O4@Ag nanocomposite exhibits a high percentage of photocatalytic degradation of ⁓ 98% within 35 min under UV light irradiation. The photocatalytic performance of as-synthesised nanocomposite was evaluated using dye degradation-adsorption in both natural light and dark condition. Under dark conditions, it was found that 2 mg mL-1 CoFe2O4@Ag in RhB aqueous solution (5 ppm) causes dye adsorption in 30 min with an effectiveness of 72%. Consequently, it is anticipated that the CoFe2O4@Ag nanocomposite will be a promising photocatalyst and possibly a noble material for environmental remediation applications.

Abstract
Nano-heterojunction photocatalytic can operate removal of pollutants, which is basic for the sustainable development of a clean environment. Herein, we propose a novel MoS2/SnO2 (MS) S-scheme heterojunction by a facile hydrothermal process, which is cheap, easily available, highly visible-light response, and good stability. The MS nano-heterojunction suggested superior performance with the photocatalytic degradation of 97.6% within 100 min for ciprofloxacin (CIP) removal, which was 5.74 and 4.88 folds higher than that of pristine MoS2 and SnO2, respectively. The fabricated MS photocatalysts displayed outstanding photocatalytic efficiency toward Cr (VI) reduction. The removal capability of Cr (VI) reached up to 92.5% within 60 min. The photodegradation efficiency was 5.2 folds that of pristine MoS2. In addition, the antibacterial performance approximately approached 100% for E. coli within 10 min, which was more apparent than the others. A series of excellent results implied that MS nano-heterojunction had a high ultraviolet and visible light absorbance, larger specific surface area, outstanding electron-hole pairs migration and higher capability of photo-response electrons and holes separation rate. This system offers a novel window into the evolution of nano-heterojunction for wastewater treatment and solar energy harvesting applications.

Abstract
The shocking increase of resistant dye pollutants in the environment and their harmful effects has become a potential threat to the ecosystem. In the current work, the novel and highly efficient potato-on-rod-like Z-scheme plasmon Ag2CrO4-Ag2Mo2O7 heterojunction nano-photocatalyst was synthesized by precipitation method to photodegrade different organic dyes under artificial sunlight. The required analysises were carried out to characterize nanophotocatalysts. FESEM and TEM results showed the placement way of potato-like Ag2CrO4 between/on rod-like Ag2Mo2O7 which was leading to suitable structure and surface morphology. Besides, the morphology observations released the meso-/macroporous potato-on-rod like architecture self-assembled by nanoparticles. DRS analysis also confirmed two band gap energies of 2.55 and 1.72 eV in Ag2CrO4-Ag2Mo2O7 (3:1) resulting from forming a heterojunction structure and the plasmon Ag. Ag2CrO4-Ag2Mo2O7 (3:1) nanophotocatalyst exhibited the most remarkable activity in the photodegradation of 10 mg/L 2-naphthol orange (97.8%), 10 mg/L rhodamine B (99.7%), 10 mg/L crystal violet (98.9%), and 10 mg/L methyl orange (56.1%) with a catalyst dosage of 0.1 gr for about 90 min. The appropriate energy band gap, the formation of the heterostructure, the presence of meso (0.0038 cm3/g) and macro (0.0044 cm3/g) holes, and pore diameter at about 17.2 nm based on BET-BJH analysis that facilitated the penetration of pollutant molecules, increased pollutant adsorption and demonstrated stunning capability of efficient light harvesting, the reason was electron-hole pairs recombination rate reduction. Moreover, the fabricated samples showed tremendous catalyst constancy and reusability even after the fourth run. Results have shown the remarkable photocatalytic activity under visible light and provide an environment-friendly and green strategy to overcome the challenges of organic pollutants present in aqueous solutions.

Prabhu K, Malode SJ, Shetti NP, Pandiaraj S, Alodhayb A, Muthuramamoorthy M. Electro-sensing layer constructed of a WO 3/CuO nanocomposite, for the electrochemical determination of 2-phenylphenol fungicide. ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH 2023; 236:116710. [PMID: 37479212 DOI: 10.1016/j.envres.2023.116710] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 06/06/2023] [Revised: 07/11/2023] [Accepted: 07/19/2023] [Indexed: 07/23/2023]
Abstract
The abstract highlights the development of an electroanalytical sensor for the detection of 2-phenylphenol (2-PPL) as a contaminant. The novelty of the experiment lies in the utilization of a 1-D nanostructured WO3/CuO nanocomposite integrated with a carbon paste electrode (CPE). The hydrothermal method was used to synthesize the WO3 NPs, which were then characterized using Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) techniques. Tungsten oxides (WO3) have been the subject of extensive study because of their many desirable characteristics, including their ease of preparation, tunable stoichiometry, crystal structure, particle morphology, 2.6 eV bandgap, excellent photocatalytic oxidation capacity, non-toxic nature, and widespread availability. The narrow band gap in CuO makes it an ideal sensing material. Copper oxide has applications in many different industries because it is a semiconductor metal with a narrow band gap in the spectrum of 1.2-1.9 eV and unique optical, electrical, and magnetic properties. Techniques like cyclic voltammetry (CV), and square wave voltammetry (SWV) were used. Real sample analysis was carried out in real-world samples like different types of soil, vegetables, and water. The electroanalytical sensor showed outstanding catalytic behavior by enhancing the peak current of the 2-phenylphenol with the potential shift to the less positive side compared to the unmodified carbon paste electrode in the presence of pH 7.0 phosphate buffer solution (PB). Throughout the experimental study, double distilled was used. Various electro-kinetic parameters like pH, accumulation time study, scan rate, concentration variation, standard heterogeneous rate constant, and participation of electrons, accumulation time, and transfer coefficient have been studied at WO3/CuO/CPE. The limit of detection was quantified together with the limit of quantification. Possible electrochemical oxidation mechanism of the toxic molecule was depicted. Overall, this research contributes to the field of electroanalytical sensing and offers potential applications in environmental monitoring.
