Abstract
Psychopharmacological treatment is an important component of the multimodal intervention approach to treating mental health conditions in children and adolescents. Currently, there are many unmet needs but also opportunities, alongside possible risks to consider, regarding the pharmacological treatment of mental health conditions in children and adolescents. In this Position Paper, we highlight and address these unmet needs and opportunities, including the perspectives of clinicians and researchers from the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology-Child and Adolescent Network, alongside those of experts by lived experience from national and international associations, via a survey involving 644 participants from 13 countries, and of regulators, through representation from the European Medicines Agency. We present and discuss the evidence base for medications currently used for mental disorders in children and adolescents, medications in the pipeline, opportunities in the development of novel medications, crucial priorities for the conduct of future clinical studies, challenges and opportunities in terms of the regulatory and legislative framework, and innovations in the way research is conducted, reported, and promoted.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study investigated research capacity and culture in people with lived experience of mental health challenges by developing a quantitative tool that measures capacity to engage in research. METHOD A cross-sectional, correlational methodology was employed, which comprised of three phases: lived experience consultations for item development (n = 15), item refinement (n = 20) and tool piloting. Items were adapted from, and extended, an existing research capacity and culture tool for healthcare workers. People (N = 112) with lived experience as mental health consumers, carers, peer workers and/or advocates aged 18-75 years took part in the tool piloting survey. RESULTS Overall, participants rated their individual research capacity and culture skills as moderate (mean = 5.41, standard deviation = 2.04). The most commonly reported barriers to research engagement related to lack of knowledge, familiarity or experience with the research process. The most commonly reported enablers were altruistic, such as using their experiences to improve services and help others. Research capacity and culture significantly correlated with current research activities (rs = 0.25-0.41; ps < 0.05), but not with being a research participant (r = 0.09; p > 0.05), suggesting that building research capacity of people with lived experience requires them to be active members of research teams. CONCLUSION The Lived Experience research capacity and culture tool developed in this study revealed that people with lived experience of mental health challenges are intrinsically motivated to engage in research to improve consumer outcomes. The tool may be useful to assess self, research team and organisational preparedness to conduct genuinely co-designed research, and to assess changes in lived experience research capacities and culture over time.

Abstract
PURPOSE This systematic review registered in PROSPERO (CRD42021225296) aimed to describe the use of the French national health insurance information system, which covers the entire French population (67 million inhabitants), for research in the field of mental health. METHODS Three electronic databases and a journal hand-search identified 15 265 articles from January 1, 2003 (year of creation of the database) to October 31, 2020. Studies of any design were eligible for inclusion provided that they (i) made use of at least one component of the French health insurance database and (ii) focused on a topic in near and far connection with the field of mental health in France. Database used, design and methods, study period, population, key findings, and type of use for medical research were described. RESULTS A total of 152 studies were included in the review analysis. There was an increase in the number of published articles over time throughout the studied period. Studies focusing on adults (n = 139) largely outnumbered those focusing on children and adolescents (n = 11). Pharmacoepidemiological studies were by far the most frequent (n = 123), followed by methodological studies (n = 23), epidemiological studies (n = 17), and health economics studies (n = 3). The most studied psychotropic drugs were antidepressants (n = 27), anxiolytics (n = 27), and opioids (n = 25) while fewer studies focused on methylphenidate (n = 6) and on mood stabilizers (n = 5). Few studies specifically focused on psychiatric disorders, mainly depression (n = 4), suicide (n = 4), and psychotic disorders (n = 3). CONCLUSION This systematic review highlighted a relatively poor exploitation of the Système national des données de santé database in the field of psychiatric research with regard to the great possibilities it offers, with a clear lag in certain fields such as epidemiological or health economics studies and in specific populations, in particular children and adolescents.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The Netherlands Study of Depression and Anxiety (NESDA, www.nesda.nl) is a longitudinal, multi-site, naturalistic, case-control cohort study set up to examine the etiology, course and consequences of depressive and anxiety disorders. This paper presents a cohort profile of NESDA. METHODS AND RESULTS The NESDA sample recruited initially 2329 persons with a remitted or current DSM-IV based depressive (major depressive disorder, dysthymia) and/or anxiety disorder (panic disorder, social phobia, agoraphobia, generalized anxiety disorder), 367 of their siblings and 652 healthy controls, yielding a total of 3348 participants. Half-day face-to-face assessments of participants started in 2004 and since then have been repeated six times over a period of 9 years. A 13-year follow-up assessment is ongoing, at what time we also recruit offspring of participants. Retention rates are generally high, ranging from 87.1% (after 2 years) to 69.4% (after 9 years). Psychiatric diagnostic interviews have been administered at all face-to-face assessments, as was monitoring of clinical characteristics, psychosocial functioning and somatic health. Assessed etiological factors include e.g. early and current environmental risk factors, psychological vulnerability and resilience factors as well as (neuro)biology through hypothesis-driven biomarker assessments, genome-wide and large-scale '-omics' assessments, and neuroimaging assessments. LIMITATIONS The naturalistic design allows research into course and consequences of affective disorders but is limited in treatment response interpretation. CONCLUSIONS NESDA provides a strong research infrastructure for research into depressive and/or anxiety disorders. Its data have been used for many scientific papers describing either NESDA-based analyses or joint collaborative consortia-projects, and are in principle available to researchers outside the NESDA consortium.
