Abstract
This study focuses on the development and application of a novel nanocomposite (functionalized nanodiamonds@CuAl2O4@HKUST-1)-based µ-SPE method for the sensitive and selective extraction of Pb and Cd from food and water samples. The technique offers high sensitivity and selectivity, allowing accurate measurement of these metals at trace levels. The detection limit is 0.031 µg kg-1 for Cd and 0.052 µg kg-1 for Pb, with a relative standard deviation of 1.7 % for Cd and 4.8 % for Pb. The method was successfully applied to real samples and efficiently quantified Pb and Cd in food and natural water samples. The highest concentrations were found in red lentils (0.274 µg kg-1 Pb) and fresh mint (0.197 µg kg-1Cd), but still below recommended limits set by FAO/WHO (300 µg kg-1 for Pb and 200 µg kg-1 for Cd). It promises to ensure food safety, monitor environmental contamination, and informs regulatory decisions to protect public health.

Abstract
Pb2+ is one of the major environmental pollutants, which can be visually detected by surface plasmon resonance of nanoparticles. Paper based analytical device, as a newly developed microfluidic detection platform, is featured in cost-effective and suitable for on-site analysis. In this paper, a sensitive and portable detection method for Pb2+ was proposed, in which Pb2+ was electrokinetically stacked on the paper fluidic channel by geometric field amplification effect and visualized online by glutathione-modified silver nanoparticles. Colorimetric quantification of the visualized stacking band was conducted by smart phone camera. To avoid unfavorable influence from pH change on the surface plasmon resonance visualization, field amplification effect was introduced by geometric design of the paper fluidic channel. The enriched Pb2+ was clearly visible on the paper substrate, and the stacking band intensity was about four orders of magnitude enhanced, comparing to the intensity without stacking. A linear response to Pb2+ was observed in the range of 0.3-7.0 μM (R2 = 0.997) with a limit of detection of 86 nM and a limit of quantity of 0.28 μM. The established method was used in the detection of Pb2+ from river and lake water samples, and the results were confirmed by atomic absorption spectroscopy method.

Abstract
Background:
Application of electrochemical sensors for analysis of food, biological and
water polluting compounds helps to speed up their analysis in the real samples. Electrochemical sensors
with low cost, fast response and portable ability are a better choice compared to traditional
methods for analysis of electro-active compounds such as HPLC. Therefore, in recent years, many
analytical scientists have suggested this type of analytical method for analysis of food, biological
compounds and water pollutants.
Objective:
Due to low cost, easy modification and low non-faradic current, the carbon paste electrode
is a suitable choice as a working electrode in the electrochemical and especially voltammetric analysis.
On the other hand, modification of carbon paste electrode can improve the quality of the sensor
for the analysis of electroactive compounds at nanomolar level.

Abstract
Background:
The mycophenolate mofetil is an immunosuppressant drug with wide application
in the treatment of cancer and prevent rejection in organ transplantation. This drug showed many
sides effects for pregnant women and determination of this drug is very important in the human body.
Objective:
A new electrochemical strategy was described for analysis of Mycophenolate Mofetil
(MMF) using novel voltammetric sensor. The sensor was fabricated using NiO/SWCNTs and 1-methyl-
3-butylimidazolium bromide as two conductive mediators for modification of carbon paste electrode
(NiO/SWCNTs/MBBr/CPE). The NiO/SWCNTs/MBBr/CPE can be used for analysis of MMF in
aqueous buffer solution in the concentration range of 0.08-900 µM. In addition, the NiO/SWCNTs/
MBBr/CPE reduced oxidation over-potential of MMF ~ 80 mV and increased the oxidation current of
MMF ~ 2.85 times. In the final step, NiO/SWCNTs/MBBr/CPE was used for determination of MMF in
pharmaceutical serum and tablet samples.

Abstract
Background:
Antioxidants are one of the important additives in food samples due to their
role in protecting human cells against the effects of free radicals. The analysis of antioxidants is
essential due to the role of antioxidants in improving body health.
Objective:
A square wave voltammetric sensor was fabricated for the determination of tert-butylhydroxyanisole
(TBHA) based on the application of CdO/SWCNTs and 1-methyl-3-butylimidazolium
chloride as mediators for the modification of carbon paste electrode (MBCl/CdO/SWCNTs/CPE). The
MBCl/CdO/SWCNTs/CPE improved the sensitivity of TBHA ~ 6.7 times and showed a linear dynamic
range 0.07-600 µM with detection limit 0.02 µA for the analysis of TBHA. The pH investigation confirmed
that electro-oxidation of TBHA occurred by exchanging two electrons and two protons. In addition,
the MBCl/CdO/SWCNTs/CPE was used for determination of TBHA in food samples.

Abstract
This research paper addresses the hypothesis that Water Kefir grains can be used as absorbers of metal ions and reports the first application of the Water Kefir grains as a protective tool against toxicity by heavy metal ions. The aim of this study is to evaluate the concentration of heavy metal ions in several Water Kefir solutions during the fermentation process under various conditions. Two colonies of Water Kefir grain were used, and the concentrations of Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, Ba, and Ca were measured in Water Kefir grain solutions at different contact times (0, 24, 48, and 72 hours), different pH values in citric and acetic buffers, and different Water Kefir grains/metal solution ratios, with and without sucrose (5%). Optical emission spectroscopy was used to measure the concentrations of metal ions. Among the tested experimental conditions, the best combination for pollution abatement is sucrose (5%), contact time 24 hours, starting pH = 4.5, acetate buffer, and Kefir grains/metal solution ratio 1 : 1. In these conditions, the heavy metal abatement by Water Kefir grains is particularly effective for Cr and Pb (70%) and good for Cu, Ni, and Mn (50%).

Abstract
This work proposes a preconcentration method using an ion imprinted polymer (IIP) for determination of cadmium, in several samples, employing a mini-column filled with the polymer coupled into a flow injection analysis system with detection by thermospray flame furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (FIA-TS-FF-AAS). The polymer was synthesized via bulk using methacrylic acid and vinylimidazole as a functional monomer. For the FIA system initial assessment, the variables: pH, eluent concentration and buffer concentration were studied, employing a 23 full factorial design. To obtain the optimum values for each significant variable, a Doehlert matrix was employed. After the optimization conditions as: pH 5.8, eluent (HNO3) concentration of 0.48 mol L-1 and buffer concentration of 0.01 mol L-1, were adopted. The proposed method showed a linear response in the range of 0.081-10.0 μg L-1, limits detection and quantification of 0.024 and 0.081 μg L-1, respectively; preconcentration factor of 165, consumptive index of 0.06 mL, concentration efficiency 132 min-1, and frequency of readings equal to 26 readings h-1 The accuracy was checked by analysis of certified reference materials for trace metals and recovery tests. The obtained results were in agreement with 95% confidence level (t-test). The method was adequate to apply in samples of: jewelry (earrings) (2.38 ± 0.28 μg kg-1), black tea (1.09 ± 0.15 μg kg-1), green tea (3.85 ± 0.13 μg kg-1), cigarette tobacco (38.27 ± 0.22 μg kg-1), and hair (0.35 ± 0.02 μg kg-1).

Abstract
The efficacy and applicability of a cadmium extractor prepared by functionalizing polystyrene resin with 2-thiobarbituric acid is studied. This is the first time that 2-thiobarbituric acid is reported in solid phase extraction as a chelating resin.
