Abstract
Pomegranate are often treated with preservatives during storage. This study investigated the effects of storage and food processing on the residual behavior of the five commonly used preservatives (prochloraz, thiophanate-methyl, pyrimethanil, imazalil, and difenoconazole) and their metabolites in pomegranate and its products. The LOQs for all target compounds were 0.001 mg kg-1. The residue levels of five preservatives in the calyx was highest, followed by the peel, stalk, septum, umbilicus, and seed. For the migration ability, the five preservatives from pomegranate peel to seed was negatively correlated with their octanol/water partition coefficients. The processing factors of each procedures of juice, wine, vinegar, and pectin processing were <1. Nevertheless, the PF values in drying peel during the overall process ranged from 1.26 to 4.09. Hence, it is worth noting that consumption of pomegranate essential oil and drying peel may pose a potential risk to the health of consumers.

Abstract
In the tea-planting process, insecticides are commonly combined, potentially prolonging the pre-harvest interval and heightening the risk of dietary exposure. This study focused on three frequently used insecticides in tea cultivation: thiamethoxam, bifenthrin, and dinotefuran, aiming to investigate their dissipation behaviors and associated dietary risks upon individual and simultaneous application. The dissipation kinetics of thiamethoxam, bifenthrin, and dinotefuran were successfully characterized by first-order kinetics, yielding respective half-lives of 5.44, 9.81, and 10.16 days. Upon joint application, the dissipation half-lives of thiamethoxam and bifenthrin were notably prolonged compared with their individual applications, resulting in final concentrations after 28 days that were correspondingly elevated by 1.41 and 1.29 times. Assessment of the dietary intake risk revealed that the chronic and acute risk quotients associated with thiamethoxam and bifenthrin escalated by 1.44-1.59 times following their combined application. Although dietary risks associated with Tianmuhu white tea, as determined by the exposure assessment model, were deemed acceptable, the cumulative risks stemming from pesticide mixtures across various dietary sources warrant attention. Molecular docking analyses further unveiled that thiamethoxam and bifenthrin competitively bound to glutathione S-transferase (GST) at amino acid residues, notably at the 76th GLU and the 25th PHE, pivotal in the metabolism and absorption of exogenous substances. Moreover, the interactions between P-glycoprotein and pesticides during transport and absorption were likely to influence dissipation behaviors post-joint application. This research offers valuable insights and data support for optimizing joint pesticide application strategies and assessing risks associated with typical pesticides used in tea cultivation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Excessive pesticide residues in agricultural products could accumulate in organisms through the food chain, causing potential harm to human health. The investigation of dissipation kinetics and residues of pesticides in crops is crucial for the scientific application of pesticides and the mitigation of their adverse effects on human health. In vivo solid-phase microextraction (in vivo SPME) has unique advantages, but the research on field plants is still lacking and the quantitative correction methods need to be further developed. RESULTS A method combining in vivo solid-phase microextraction with ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (in vivo SPME-UPLC-MS/MS) was developed to monitor the presence of acetamiprid, cyromazine, thiamethoxam and imidacloprid in cowpea fruits grown in the field. The sampling rates (Rs) were determined using both in vitro SPME in homogenized cowpea samples and in vivo SPME in intact cowpea fruit samples. The in vivo-Rs values were significantly higher than the in vitro-Rs for the same analyte, which were used for in vivo SPME correction. The accuracy of this method was confirmed by comparison with a QuEChERS-based approach and subsequently applied to trace pesticide residues in field-grown cowpea fruits. The residual concentrations of each pesticide positively correlated with application doses. After 7 days of application at two different doses, all of the pesticides had residual concentrations below China's maximum residue limits. Both experimental data and predictions indicated that a safe preharvest interval for these pesticides is 7 days; however, if the European Union standards are to be met, a safe preharvest interval for cyromazine should be at least 13 days. SIGNIFICANCE This study highlights the advantages of in vivo SPME for simultaneous analysis and tracking of multiple pesticides in crops under field conditions. This technique is environmentally friendly, minimally invasive, highly sensitive, accurate, rapid, user-friendly, cost-effective, and capable of providing precise and timely data for long-term pesticide surveillance. Consequently, it furnishes valuable insights to guide the safe utilization of pesticides in agricultural production.

Abstract
As medicine and food homology substance, goji berry is consumed worldwide in the form of fresh, dried and juice; however, pesticide residues have become one of the problems that essentially threaten its quality during cultivation and processing. In this study, a total of 75 dried goji berries were sampled from markets across China, and for the determination of 62 analytes, 28 pesticides were identified. Nine pesticides with high detectable rates and residual levels were selected for folia spraying, and their half-lives were found to range from 1.04 to 2.21 d. The processing factors (PFs) of juice were between 0.25 and 1.02, and this was mainly related with their octanol-water partition coefficient (logKow values). Washing could reduce pesticides residues to varying degrees with the removal rates between 17.00% and 74.05%. Sun drying with higher PF values in the range of 0.61-5.91 exhibited more obvious enrichment effect compared to oven drying. Commercial goji berry had cumulative chronic dietary risks with the hazard index (HI) values of 1.61%-4.97%. Its acute risk quotients (HQas) for consumers were 543.32%-585.92% and were mainly due to insecticides. These results provide important references for rationalizing pesticide application during goji berry cultivation and for the improvement of process to ensure food safety.

Abstract
Pesticides play vital roles in controlling pests and boosting crop yields. Imidacloprid is widely used all over the world and may form in agricultural products. The presence of pesticide residues in apples raises serious health concerns. Understanding the residual fate of imidacloprid is critical for food safety and human health. In this study, the dissipation behavior, metabolism, household processing and risk assessment of imidacloprid and its metabolites in apple were investigated from filed to products. Field experiment results suggested that the half-lives of imidacloprid at 5 times the recommended dosage was 1.5 times that of the standard dosage. And the final residues of imidacloprid were less than the established maximum residue limits (MRLs). Clarification and simmering had little effect on the reduction the residues of imidacloprid and its metabolites. The calculated processing factors were lower than 1 for imidacloprid and its metabolites, implying that the residual ratios of imidacloprid and its metabolites in each steps of the food processing were reduced. The risk quotients were <1 for all Chinese people, indicating that acceptable risks associated with dietary exposure to imidacloprid in apple. However, the higher risks were observed in young people than adults, and females faced higher risks than males. Given high residue levels in pomace, imidacloprid and its metabolites should be further studied in commercial byproducts.

Abstract
Extensive use of the neonicotinoid thiamethoxam (TMX) results in its deposition in soil, which can then be absorbed and translocated in vegetables. Here we analyzed the comprehensive effects of TMX on pak choi. The TMX translocation factor (TF) was 0.37-11.65 and 0.46-39.75 for low and high treatments over 28 d, respectively, indicating its ready ability to move from the roots to the leaves of these plants. This uptake was associated with significant decrease in the fresh weight, and increase in vitamin C (VC), soluble sugars and soluble solid of pak choi. A metabolomic analysis revealed that fatty acids and purine nucleosides significantly decreased, and flavonoids and carbohydrates increased in the presence of TMX. TMX exposure thus influenced plant growth and disrupted the carbohydrate and lipid metabolism pathways. Our study raises concerns for food safety risk associated with TMX-contaminated soil.

Abstract
Spirotetramat is widely used around the world to control sucking pests and may form in agricultural products. In the current study, the dissipation, residues, and evaluation of processing factor (PF) for spirotetramat and its formed metabolites were investigated during kiwifruit growing, storing, and processing. The residue analysis method was established based on high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) combined with a QuEChERS method to detect the residues of spirotetramat and its metabolites in kiwifruit and its processed products. The method provided recoveries of 74.7-108.7%, and the relative standard deviations (RSDs) were 0.6-13.1%. The LOQs of spirotetramat and its four metabolites were 1 μg kg-1. The degradation of spirotetramat was best fitted for the first-order kinetics model with a half-life of 9.90-10.34 days in the field and 24.75-30.13 days during storage. Residues of spirotetramat and its formed metabolites in kiwifruit would not pose dietary risk to consumers. Moreover, the peeling and fermentation were the highest removal efficiency for the spirotetramat and its formed metabolite residues during processing. The PF values calculated after each individual process were < 1, indicating a significant reduction of residues in different processing processes of kiwifruit. The spirotetramat was degraded during kiwifruit wine-making process with half-lives of 3.36-4.91 days. B-enol and B-keto were the main metabolites detected in kiwifruit and its processed products. This study revealed the residues of spirotetramat and its formed metabolites in kiwifruit growing, storing, and processing, which helps provide reasonable data for studying the dietary risk factors of kiwifruits and products.

Abstract
Neonicotinoid insecticides (NEOs) are generally used in crop production. Their widespread use on agricultural soil has raised concerns regarding their health and ecological risks. Previous studies have reported the contamination of the farmland soils with NEOs from the coastal provinces of China. Information about NEOs at the national scale as well as the residues of their metabolites are relatively unknown. In this study, 391 soil samples were collected from 31 provinces in nine agricultural regions across mainland China, and the concentrations of ten parent NEOs and three metabolites were determined. At least one NEO was detected in all soil samples, with the sum of the NEOs (ΣNEOs) ranging from 0.04 to 702 μg/kg. The most common parent NEO and metabolite are imidacloprid and imidacloprid-urea, respectively. The concentrations of NEOs in coastal regions at the same latitude were higher than those in inland regions. The NEOs were further compared in the soils of seven types of monocrops and three types of multiple crops (multicrops) (i.e., two types of crops were produced in succession or simultaneously within the decade of this study). The results showed that the highest NEO residues were found in soils planted with vegetables (VE), fruits (FR), and cotton (CO) monocrops and VE & FR multicrops. Differences in NEO concentrations were observed between soils planted with monocrops and multicrops. For example, VE & FR > VE > vegetables and grains (VE & GR) > GR. Moreover, the health risks posed by NEOs in agricultural soils in China are extremely low, and the ecological risks require urgent attention. Particularly, individual NEOs in > 45% of agricultural soils in mainland China may have sublethal effects on two non-target species (HQnon-target > 0.01).

Abstract
This study aimed to examine the effect of fermentation methods on the quality of Lycium barbarum and Polygonatum cyrtonema compound wine (LPW) by combining non-targeted metabolomic approaches with chemometrics and path profiling to determine the chemical and metabolic properties of LPW. The results demonstrated that SRA had higher leaching rates of total phenols and flavonoids, reaching 4.20 ± 0.10 v/v ethanol concentration. According to LC-MS non-targeting genomics, the metabolic profiles of LPW prepared by different mixtures of fermentation methods (Saccharomyces cerevisiae RW; Debaryomyces hansenii AS2.45) of yeast differed significantly. Amino acids, phenylpropanoids, flavonols, etc., were identified as the differential metabolites between different comparison groups. The pathways of tyrosine metabolism, biosynthesis of phenylpropanoids, and metabolism of 2-oxocarboxylic acids enriched 17 distinct metabolites. SRA stimulated the production of tyrosine and imparted a distinctive saucy aroma to the wine samples, providing a novel research concept for the microbial fermentation-based production of tyrosine.

Abstract
The green peach aphid, Myzus persicae, is one of the most economically important pests in peach-growing areas around the world. In many countries, the application of insecticides is the main method to control and reduce the population of M. persicae. In this study, we investigated the effects and persistence of thiamethoxam against M. persicae by foliar spraying and root irrigation. The residues of thiamethoxam and clothianidin in peach were determined to assess food safety. The results showed that thiamethoxam treatment significantly reduced the population of M. persicae through foliar spraying and root irrigation. And the persistence of root irrigation on M. persicae was significantly longer than that of spraying. Thiamethoxam and clothianidin were absorbed by the roots, transported to other parts of the plant, and concentrated in the leaves, especially new leaves. The final residues of thiamethoxam and clothianidin in peaches were below the maximum residue limit (MRLs). These results suggested that thiamethoxam is more effective in M. persicae control through root irrigation than foliar spraying. The persistence of root irrigation on M. persicae was significantly longer than that of spraying. These results shed some light upon the control of M. persicae by root irrigation of thiamethoxam.

Abstract
The frequent application of second-generation neonicotinoids thiamethoxam (TMX) and clothianidin (CLO) has led to a high detectable rate in environment samples and poses threats to nontarget organisms and human beings, however, the information on the influences of long-term exposure at low doses was limited. In this study, the tissue distribution of TMX and CLO in mice at acceptable daily intake (ADI) level and 5 × ADI was determined and the health effects were assessed. TMX and CLO were detected in the liver, serum, lung, heart and kidney in the TMX exposure groups, which indicated that TMX degraded to CLO in mice. Residue levels of TMX in tissues increased with the increasing of doses. The concentrations of CLO in different tissues in the CLO exposure groups were in the order Ckidney > Clung > Cheart > Cliver. Measurement of biochemical indicators, combined with metabolomic analysis of liver, kidney, and cecal contents, examination of changes in the gut microbiota, and histopathological assessment indicated that both TMX and CLO affected energy absorption and lipid metabolism in mice and destroyed tissue structures. Furthermore, we found that CLO had a stronger effect on metabolism in mice, despite its lower acute toxicity. These results have prompted us to consider the chronic toxicity and potential hazards of chemicals in future risk assessments.
