Abstract
BACKGROUND The importance of multi-target simultaneous detection lies in its ability to significantly boost detection efficiency, making it invaluable for rapid and cost-effective testing. Photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensors have emerged as promising candidates for detecting harmful substances and biomarkers, attributable to their unparalleled sensitivity, minimal background signal, cost-effectiveness, equipment simplicity, and outstanding repeatability. However, designing an effective multi-target detection strategy remains a challenging task in the PEC sensing field. Consequently, there is a pressing need to address the development of PEC sensors capable of simultaneously detecting multiple targets. RESULTS CdIn2S4/V-MoS2 heterojunctions were successfully prepared via a hydrothermal method. These heterojunctions exhibited a high photocurrent intensity, representing a 1.53-fold enhancement compared to CdIn2S4 alone. Next, we designed a multi-channel aptasensing chip using ITO as the substrate. Three working electrodes were created via laser etching and subsequently modified with CdIn2S4/V-MoS2 heterojunctions. Thiolated aptamers were then self-assembled onto the CdIn2S4/V-MoS2 heterojunctions via covalent bonds, serving as recognition tool. By empolying the CdIn2S4/V-MoS2 heterojunctions as the sensing platform and aptamers as recognition tool, we successfully developed a disposable aptasensing chip for the simultaneous PEC detection of three typical mycotoxins (aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), ochratoxin A (OTA), and zearalenone (ZEN)). This aptasensing chip exhibited wide detection range for AFB1 (0.05-50 ng/mL), OTA (0.05-500 ng/mL), and ZEN (0.1-250 ng/mL). Furthermore, it demonstrated ultra-low detection limits of 0.017 ng/mL for AFB1, 0.016 ng/mL for OTA, and 0.033 ng/mL for ZEN. SIGNIFICANCE AND NOVELTY The aptasensing chip stands out for its cost-effectiveness, simplicity of fabrication, and multi-channel capabilities. The versatility and practicality enable it to serve as a powerful platform for designing multi-channel PEC aptasensors. With its ability to detect multiple targets with high sensitivity and specificity, the aptasensing chip holds immense potential for applications across diverse fields, such as environmental monitoring, clinical diagnostics, and food safety monitoring, where multi-target detection is crucial.

Abstract
It is urgent to pursue appropriate gate photoactive materials for gate-to-channel signal modulation to achieve superior transconductance performances of organic photoelectrochemical transistor (OPECT) sensors. Notably, a hole transfer layer (HTL) participant CdZnS/sulfur-doped Ti3C2 MXene (S-MXene) gate was designed and developed in this work, which exhibited a remarkable signal modulation performance by up to 3 orders of magnitude. Because of the incorporation of S-MXene with an enhanced electrical conductivity as the effective HTL, the signal modulation capabilities of the CdZnS/S-MXene photoactive gate were superior to those of CdZnS and CdZnS/MXene. This incorporation inhibited the recombination of the interfacial charge and facilitated the transfer of photogenerated holes, thus enhancing the photoelectric conversion performance. This enhancement facilitated fast electron transfer with a larger effective photovoltage to augment the dedoping ability of channel ions. Based on these findings, an aptasensing platform that exhibited good performance was constructed using the proposed OPECT device, with ofloxacin as a model target and an aptamer for specific recognition. The developed OPECT aptasensor had various advantages, including a high sensitivity, good linear range (1.0 × 10-13 to 1.0 × 10-6 M), and low limit of detection (3.3 × 10-15 M). This study provided a proof-of-concept for the generalized development of HTL participant gates for OPECT sensors and other related applications.

Abstract
Isoniazid and streptomycin are vital drugs for treating tuberculosis, which are utilized as efficient anti-tuberculosis agents. This paper presents a novel visible-light-driven composite photocatalyst Ti3C2/Bi/BiOI, which was built from Ti3C2 nanosheets and Bi/BiOI microspheres. Photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensors based on Ti3C2/Bi/BiOI were synthesized for isoniazid identification, which showed a linear concentration range of 0.1-125 μM with a detection limit of 0.05 μM (S/N = 3). Moreover, we designed a PEC aptasensors based on aptamer/Ti3C2/Bi/BiOI to detect streptomycin in 0.1 M PBS covering the electron donor isoniazid, because the isoniazid consumes photogenerated holes thus increasing the photocurrent effectively and preventing photogenerated electron-hole pairs from being recombined. Furthermore, PEC aptasensors based on aptamer/Ti3C2/Bi/BiOI were synthesized for streptomycin identification, which exhibited a linear concentration range of 0.01-1000 nM with a detection limit of 2.3 × 10-3 nM (S/N = 3), and are well stable in streptomycin sensing.

Abstract
Prolonged and excessive use of chlorpyrifos (CPS) has caused severe pollution, particularly in crops, vegetables, fruits, and water sources. As a result, CPS is detected in various food and water samples using conventional methods. However, its applications are limited due to size, portability, cost, etc. In this regard, electrochemical sensors are preferred for CPS detection due to their high sensitivity, reliability, rapid, on-site detection, and user-friendly. Notably, graphene-based electrochemical sensors have gained more attention due to their unique physiochemical and electrochemical properties. It shows high sensitivity, selectivity, and quick response because of its high surface area and high conductivity. In this review, we have discussed an overview of three graphene-based different functional electrochemical sensors such as electroanalytical sensors, bio-electrochemical sensors, and photoelectrochemical sensors used to detect CPS in food and water samples. Furthermore, the fabrication and operation of these electrochemical sensors using various materials (low band gap material, nanomaterials, enzymes, antibodies, DNA, aptamers, and so on) and electrochemical techniques (CV, DPV, EIS, SWV etc.) are discussed. The study found that the electrical signal was reduced with increasing CPS concentration. This is due to the blocking of active sites, reduced redox reaction, impedance, irreversible reactions, etc. In addition, acetylcholinesterase-coupled sensors are more sensitive and stable than others. Also, it can be further improved by fabricating with low band gap nanomaterials. Despite their advantages, these sensors have significant drawbacks, such as low reusability, repeatability, stability, and high cost. Therefore, further research is required to overcome such limitations.

Metal-organic-framework-confined quantum dots enhance photocurrent signals: A molecularly imprinted photoelectrochemical cathodic sensor for rapid and sensitive tetracycline detection. Abstract
BACKGROUND Tetracycline (TC), a cost-effective broad-spectrum antibacterial drug, has been excessively utilized in the livestock and poultry industry, leading to a serious overabundance of TC in livestock wastewater. However, conventional analytical methods such as liquid chromatography and gas chromatography face challenges in achieving sensitive detection of trace amounts of TC in complex substrates. Therefore, it is imperative to develop a highly sensitive and anti-interference analytical method for the detection of tetracycline in livestock wastewater. RESULTS A porphyrin-based MOF (PCN-224)-confined carbon dots (CDs) material (CDs@PCN-224) was synthesized by a "bottle-around-ship" strategy. The reduced carrier migration distance is conducive to the separation of electron-hole pairs and enhanced the photocurrent signal due to the tight coupling of CDs and PCN-224. Further, molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was synthesized by rapid in-situ UV-polymerization and employed as a recognition element. The specific recognition of the target by imprinted cavities blocks electron transfer, resulting in a "turn off" response signal, thus realizing the selective detection of TC. Under optimal conditions, the constructed MIP-PEC cathodic sensor detected 1.00 × 10-12 M to 1.00 × 10-7 M of TC sensitively, with a limit of detection of 3.72 × 10-13 M. In addition, the proposed MIP-PEC sensor demonstrated good TC detection performance in actual livestock wastewater. SIGNIFICANCE The strategy based on MOF pore-confined quantum dots can effectively enhance the photocurrent response of the photosensitive substrate. Simultaneously, the MIP constructed by in-situ rapid UV-polymerization showed excellent anti-interference and reusable properties. This work provides a promising MIP-PEC cathodic sensing method for the rapid and sensitive detection of antibiotics in complex-matrix environmental samples.

Abstract
Human health and ecology are seriously threatened by harmful environmental contaminants. It is essential to develop efficient and simple methods for their detection. Environmental pollutants can be detected using photoelectrochemical (PEC) detection technologies. The key ingredient in the PEC sensing system is the photoactive material. Due to the unique characteristics, such as a large surface area, enhanced exposure of active sites, and effective mass capture and diffusion, porous materials have been regarded as ideal sensing materials for the construction of PEC sensors. Extensive efforts have been devoted to the development and modification of PEC sensors based on porous materials. However, a review of the relationship between detection performance and the structure of porous materials is still lacking. In this work, we present an overview of PEC sensors based on porous materials. A number of typical porous materials are introduced separately, and their applications in PEC detection of different types of environmental pollutants are also discussed. More importantly, special attention has been paid to how the porous material's structure affects aspects like sensitivity, selectivity, and detection limits of the associated PEC sensor. In addition, future research perspectives in the area of PEC sensors based on porous materials are presented.

Abstract
Revolutionary developments in analytical chemistry have led to the rapid development of self-powered photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensors. Different from conventional PEC sensors, self-powered PEC sensors do not require an external power source or complex devices for the sensitive detection of targets. As a result, these sensors have enormous application potential for the development of novel portable sensors. An increasing body of work is making excellent progress toward the implementation of self-powered PEC sensors for detection, but there have been no reviews to date. The present review first introduces the state of the art in the development of self-powered PEC sensors. Then, different types of self-powered PEC sensors are summarized and discussed in detail, including their current, power, and potential. Additionally, single- and dual-photoelectrode systems are classified and systematically compared. Finally, the current developments and major challenges that need to be addressed are also summarized. This review provides valuable insights into the current state of self-powered PEC sensors to promote further progress in this field.

Abstract
Advanced bioelectronic detection based on the integration of modern optical electronics and biological systems has a broad prospect. The strategy of cathode signal amplification in self-powered photoelectrochemical (PEC) immunosensors with excellent performance is rarely reported in the field of immune analysis. Herein, the work demonstrates a self-powered PEC biosensor formed with BiOI photocathode and WO3/SnS2/ZnS photoanode, and CsPbBr3@COF-V was used as the photocathode signal quenching source for the quantitative monitoring of heart fatty acid binding protein (H-FABP). The high efficiency and stable self-powered biosensor formed not only provides continuous and powerful photocurrent response for bioanalysis through reasonable stepped band structure, but also effectively eliminates the interference of reducing substances. The quenching source CsPbBr3@COF-V greatly affects the photocurrent response due to steric hindrance, weak conductivity, competition with the substrate for dissolved oxygen and excitation light source. And the intervention of this key factor achieves multiple signal amplification effect and opens up an innovative vision for self-powered PEC immunosensor. Taking H-FABP as a representative analyte, the proposed signal amplification self-powered photoelectrochemical presents a broad linear range from 0.0005 to 150 ng/mL with the detection limit of 0.19 pg/mL.

Abstract
A semiconductor photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptamer sensor has been widely researched in recent years because of its broad application prospects. However, a universal PEC sensor has not been achieved, and its sensing mechanism based on a photogenerated carrier transfer process has yet to be elucidated. Herein, a novel hydrogen-treated TiO2 nanorod array one-dimensional (1D)/Ti2COX MXene two-dimensional (2D) (H-TiO2/Ti2COX) PEC aptamer sensor is presented, which achieved a record detection range of 10-9-103 μg/L and a limit of detection (LOD) of 1 fg/L for microcystic toxins-LR detection. Besides, the PEC sensor can also test serotonin (5-HT), aflatoxin-B1, and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) with high performance by changing the aptamers, exhibiting favorable application universality. Furthermore, a new phenomenon of a switchable enhanced/suppressed photocurrent detection signal was discovered from H-TiO2/Ti2COX PEC aptamer sensors through the variation of the length of the TiO2 nanorod. Meanwhile, it reveals that the steric hindrance effect determines the photogenerated hole transfer and depolarization processes, which is proposed for the first time as the predominant mechanism of the switchable enhanced/suppressed photocurrent signal for PEC sensors, giving possibilities to develop PEC sensors with higher efficiency.

Abstract
Fabricating novel biosensing constructs with high sensitivity and selectivity is highly demanded in food contaminants detection. In this prospect, various nanostructured materials were envisaged to build (bio)sensors with superior sensitivity and selectivity. The desirable biocompatibility, brilliant mechanical strength, ease of surface functionalization, as well as tunable optical and electronic features, portray 2D MXenes as versatile scaffolds for biosensing. In this review, we overviewed the state-of-the-art MXenes-based optical biosensing devices to detect mycotoxins, pesticide residues, antibiotic residues, and food borne-pathogens from foodstuff and environmental matrices. Firstly, the synthesis methods and surface functionalization/modification of MXenes are discussed. Secondly, according to the target analytes, we categorized and presented a detailed account of the newest research progress of MXenes-based optical probes for food contaminants monitoring. The efficiency of all the surveyed probes was assessed on the basis of important factors like response time, detection limit (DL), and sensing range. Lastly, the necessity and requirements for future advances in this emerging MXenes material are also given, followed by challenges and opportunities. We hope that this study will bridge the gap between nanotechnology and food science, offering insights for engineers or scientists in both areas to accelerate the progress of MXenes-based materials for food safety detection.
