Abstract
The incorporation of active compounds into polymeric matrices using traditional methods has several drawbacks mainly due to the high volatility and thermal sensitivity of these substances. A solution to this problem could be the incorporation of bioactive compounds forming inclusion complexes as a strategy to improve the chemical stability, bioactivity and achieve controlled release. In this work, β-cyclodextrin/carvacrol inclusion complex was prepared by spray drying to be incorporated into poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and Mater-Bi® films by supercritical CO2 impregnation. The impregnation process was carried out at pressures of 10, 15 and 20 MPa and at 40 °C. Both polymers showed the highest amount of incorporated inclusion complex at 15 MPa, where the percentage of impregnation varied from 0.6 % to 7.1 % in Mater-Bi® and PLA, respectively. Release tests for PLA films impregnated with inclusion complex showed a slow release of the active compound, which did not reach equilibrium after 350 h under the experimental conditions. This prolonged release was not observed in Mater-Bi® due to the lower incorporation of the inclusion complex. The release rate was described herein by a comprehensive phenomenological model considering the decomplexation kinetics combined with the equilibrium and mass transfer expressions.

Abstract
Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) stands as a compelling alternative to conventional plastic-based packaging, signifying a notable shift toward sustainable material utilization. This comprehensive analysis illuminates the manifold applications of PLA composites within the realm of the food industry, emphasizing its pivotal role in food packaging and preservation. Noteworthy attributes of PLA composites with phenolic active compounds (phenolic acid and aldehyde, terpenes, carotenoid, and so on) include robust antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, significantly enhancing its capability to bolster adherence to stringent food safety standards. The incorporation of microbial and synthetic biopolymers, polysaccharides, oligosaccharides, oils, proteins and peptides to PLA in packaging solutions arises from its inherent non-toxicity and outstanding mechanical as well as thermal resilience. Functioning as a proficient film producer, PLA constructs an ideal preservation environment by merging optical and permeability traits. Esteemed as a pioneer in environmentally mindful packaging, PLA diminishes ecological footprints owing to its innate biodegradability. Primarily, the adoption of PLA extends the shelf life of products and encourages an eco-centric approach, marking a significant stride toward the food industry's embrace of sustainable packaging methodologies. Abstract
In diverse biomedical and other applications of polylactide (PLA), its bacterial contamination and colonization are unwanted. For this reason, this biodegradable polymer is often combined with antibacterial agents or fillers. Here, we present a new solution of this kind. Through the process of simple solvent casting, we developed homogeneous composite films from 28 ± 5 nm oleic-acid-capped gallium nanoparticles (Ga NPs) and poly(L-lactide) and characterized their detailed morphology, crystallinity, aqueous wettability, optical and thermal properties. The addition of Ga NPs decreased the ultraviolet transparency of the films, increased their hydrophobicity, and enhanced the PLA structural ordering during solvent casting. Albeit, above the glass transition, there is an interplay of heterogeneous nucleation and retarded chain mobility through interfacial interactions. The gallium content varied from 0.08 to 2.4 weight %, and films with at least 0.8% Ga inhibited the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 in contact, while 2.4% Ga enhanced the effect of the films to be bactericidal. This contact action was a result of unwrapping the top film layer under biological conditions and the consequent bacterial contact with the exposed Ga NPs on the surface. All the tested films showed good cytocompatibility with human HaCaT keratinocytes and enabled the adhesion and growth of these skin cells on their surfaces when coated with poly(L-lysine). These properties make the nanogallium-polyl(L-lactide) composite a promising new polymer-based material worthy of further investigation and development for biomedical and pharmaceutical applications.

Abstract
Surface modification corresponds to a set of viable technological approaches to introduce antimicrobial properties in materials that do not have such characteristics. Antimicrobial materials are important to prevent the proliferation of microorganisms and minimize the transmission of diseases caused by pathogens. Herein, poly(lactic acid) (PLA) was decorated with nanocones through copper sputtering followed by a plasma etching. Antiviral assays by Quantitative Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-qPCR) show that nanostructured Cu-coated PLA has high antiviral activity against Omicron SARS-CoV-2, showing a relative reduction in the amplified RNA (78.8 ± 3.9 %). Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), and wear-resistance tests show that 20 wear cycles disrupt the surface nanocone patterns and significantly reduce the Cu content at the surface of the nanostructured Cu-coated PLA, leading to total loss of the antiviral properties of nanostructured PLA against Omicron SARS-CoV-2.

Abstract
This review provides a concise overview of up-to-date developments in the processing of neat poly(lactic acid) (PLA), improvement in its properties, and preparation of advanced materials using a green medium (CO2 under elevated pressure). Pressurized CO2 in the dense and supercritical state is a superior alternative medium to organic solvents, as it is easily available, fully recyclable, has easily tunable properties, and can be completely removed from the final material without post-processing steps. This review summarizes the state of the art on PLA drying, impregnation, foaming, and particle generation by the employment of dense and supercritical CO2 for the development of new materials. An analysis of the effect of processing methods on the final material properties was focused on neat PLA and PLA with an addition of natural bioactive components. It was demonstrated that CO2-assisted processes enable the control of PLA properties, reduce operating times, and require less energy compared to conventional ones. The described environmentally friendly processing techniques and the versatility of PLA were employed for the preparation of foams, aerogels, scaffolds, microparticles, and nanoparticles, as well as bioactive materials. These PLA-based materials can find application in tissue engineering, drug delivery, active food packaging, compostable packaging, wastewater treatment, or thermal insulation, among others.

Effect of the Processing Conditions on the Supercritical Extraction and Impregnation of Rosemary Essential Oil in Linear Low-Density Polyethylene Films. Processes (Basel) 2022. Abstract
The supercritical fluid extraction of essential oil from rosemary leaves and its subsequent impregnation in linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) films were studied. The effects of temperature (318 and 338 K), pressure (15 and 25 MPa) and rosemary particle size (0.9 and 0.15 mm) on the extraction yield were investigated. Impregnation assays were developed at two different values of pressure (12 and 20 MPa), temperature (308 and 328 K), and impregnation time (1 and 5 h). The extraction yield of rosemary essential oil was increased by increasing pressure and decreasing particle size and temperature. ANOVA results showed that temperature, pressure, and time significantly impacted the essential oil impregnation yield in LLDPE films. The maximum impregnation yield (1.87 wt. %) was obtained at 12 MPa, 328 K, and 5 h. The antioxidant activity and the physical-mechanical properties of impregnated films were analyzed. The IC50 values for all the impregnated LLDPE samples were close to the IC50 value of the extract showing that the impregnated films have a significant antioxidant activity.

Abstract
The development of active packaging for food storage containers is possible through impregnation of natural extracts by supercritical CO2-assisted impregnation processes. The challenge of scCO2-impregnation of natural extracts is to control the total loading and to ensure that the composition of the loaded extract may preserve the properties of the crude extract. This study aimed at investigating the scCO2-impregnation of clove extract (CE) in polycarbonate (PC) to develop antibacterial packaging. A design of experiments was applied to evaluate the influences of temperature (35–60 °C) and pressure (10–30 MPa) on the clove loading (CL%) and on the composition of the loaded extract. The CL% ranged from 6.8 to 18.5%, and the highest CL% was reached at 60 °C and 10 MPa. The composition of the impregnated extract was dependent on the impregnation conditions, and it differed from the crude extract, being richer in eugenol (81.31–86.28% compared to 70.06 in the crude extract). Differential scanning calorimetry showed a high plasticizing effect of CE on PC, and high CL% led to the cracking of the PC surface. Due to the high loading of eugenol, which is responsible for the antibacterial properties of the CE, the impregnated PC is promising for producing antibacterial food containers.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to investigate starch-based materials, prepared in an environmentally friendly way and from renewable resources, suitable for the development of biodegradable active food packaging. For this purpose, a bioactive compound (thymol) was incorporated into thermoplastic starch (TPS) and a TPS blend with poly (ε-caprolactone) (TPS-PCL) by the supercritical CO2 (scCO2) impregnation process. Impregnation experiments with scCO2 were carried out at a pressure of 30 MPa and temperatures in the range of 40-100 °C during 1 to 20 h. The structural, morphological, and thermal properties of the obtained materials were comprehensively evaluated. Bioactive component release kinetic studies were performed in water at 6 °C and 25 °C. It was shown that the scCO2 impregnation process could be successfully employed for thymol loading into TPS and TPS-PCL. The process was significantly influenced by the operating temperature and time as well as content of PCL. The samples showed a controlled release of thymol within seven days with a higher amount of released thymol from the TPS-PCL blend. The obtained materials are solvent-free and release the bioactive component in a controlled manner.

The effects of temperature (318 and 338 K), pressure (15 and 25 MPa) and cosolvent presence (0 and 3 mol%) on the extraction yield were studied. The SC-CO2 assisted impregnation runs were carried out in a discontinuous mode at different pressure (15 and 25 MPa), temperature (318 and 328 K), and time (2 and 8 h) values, using 0.5 MPa min−1 as a constant value of depressurization rate. ANOVA results confirmed that pressure, temperature, and time influenced the extraction yield. Moreover, antioxidant activities of extracts of Z. multiflora were evaluated using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assays. In addition, the antibacterial activities of the extracts were screened against standard strains of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli). The results of this investigation indicated that extracts obtained from the aerial parts of Z. multiflora possessed antioxidant and antibacterial properties. The impregnated samples presented strong antibacterial activity against the selected microorganisms.

Abstract
Plastic waste has come to the forefront of academic and political debates as a global problem that demands an urgent solution. Promoted by policymakers, academia, and corporations alike, the circular economy model presents a viable path to reach more sustainable levels of development. Emerging and disruptive technologies can catalyse the transition to a circular economy, but their application to the transition of the plastic materials realm is not fully understood. Based on a systematic review of the literature, this paper aims to understand the role of key emerging technologies in the transition towards a circular economy in the plastic materials value chain, their potential impact, as well as the barriers of adoption and diffusion. Employing the ReSOLVE framework, the analysis reveals that rather than individual technologies, four technology sets associated with Industry 4.0, distributed economies, bio-based systems, and chemical recycling stand as major enablers of this transition. The complementarity of technologies and the change needed from a systemic perspective are discussed along with a proposal for governance and practical implementation pathway to overcome barriers and resistance to the transition.

Abstract
(1) Background: Supercritical CO2 fluid (SCF-CO2)-assisted impregnation presents advantages on loading active drugs to polymer substrates, since it enables the realization of a drug-loaded polymer without any solvent residue. Besides, CO2 gas and drugs can be recycled and utilized again. Resveratrol-loaded diacetate fiber by SCF-CO2-assisted impregnation was done to give diacetate fiber biological activity function for enhancing its added value. (2) Methods: The effect of SCF-CO2 temperature, pressure and treatment time on loading ability (LA) of resveratrol onto diacetate fiber was explored by ultraviolet visible spectrophotometer. The variation of structure and property of diacetate fiber was analyzed by characterization instruments. (3) Results: LA had been increasing with SCF-CO2 treatment time, temperature and pressure when SCF-CO2 was above 70 °C, 12 MPa. The inhibiting rate of resveratrol to free radicals was affected positively by SCF-CO2. After resveratrol was impregnated by SCF-CO2 it appeared some small white granular substances on the surface of diacetate fiber. It had a good interaction between resveratrol and molecular chain of diacetate fiber. (4) Conclusions: Resveratrol was well-loaded onto the diacetate fiber by SCF-CO2 assisted impregnation.

Abstract
The main objective of this study was to extend the shelf life of fresh red raspberry (Rubus idaeus. L. cv. ‘Kweli’) by using active film-pads inside commercial compostable packages. The pads were produced with chitosan (Ch) with the incorporation of green tea (GTE) and rosemary (RSME) ethanolic extracts as natural antifungal agents. Pads were placed on the bottom of commercial fruit trays underneath the fruits, and the trays were heat-sealed with a polyacid lactic (PLA) film. Preservation studies were carried out over 14 days of storage at refrigeration temperature (4 °C). Raspberry samples were periodically analyzed throughout storage, in terms of quality attributes (fungal decay, weight loss, firmness, surface color, pH, total soluble solids), total phenolic content and antioxidant activity. Gas composition inside the packages was also analyzed over time. From the packaging systems tested, the ones with active film-pads Ch + GTE and Ch + RSME were highly effective in reducing fungal growth and decay of raspberry during storage, showing only around 13% and 5% of spoiled fruits after 14 days, respectively, in contrast with the packages without pads (around 80% of spoiled fruits detected). In addition, fruits preserved using packages with Ch + RSME active film-pads showed lower mass loss (5.6%), decreased firmness (3.7%) and reduced antioxidant activity (around 9% and 15% for DPPH and FRAP methods, respectively). This sustainable packaging presents a potential strategy for the preservation of raspberries and other highly perishable small fruits.

Abstract
This research focused on developing an eco-friendly packaging for food products through blending polycaprolactone (PCL) and polylactic acid (PLA) as two biodegradable polymers, and green tea extract (GTE) as a natural antioxidant pushing the films toward active packaging; thereby, the morphological, mechanical, thermal, barrier, antioxidant, and biodegradation features of the composite films were analyzed. The films containing 30% PLA exhibited a reduction of 14.96%, 38.89%, 8.75%, and 35.55% in the hydrophilicity, water-solubility, water vapor permeability (WVP), and oxygen transition rate (OTR), respectively. Furthermore, GTE incorporation led to antioxidant behavior as well as better barrier properties (up to 6.25% decrease in WVP and 55.78% in OTR), mechanical properties (an increase of 14.96%, 38.89%, and 8.75% in elastic modulus, tensile strength, and elongation at break, respectively) and biodegradable rate (124.13%). Indeed, the presence of polyphenol compounds in green tea improved molecular interaction between the polymers and launched a co-continuous structure and an unparalleled level of compatibility, which was also approved by the changes in FTIR spectra of the PCL/PLA films. These results demonstrate the benefits of blending PLA with PCL and GTE integration in terms of operational enhancement and film activating, respectively, to provide reliable food packaging.

Abstract
Nanotechnology has facilitated the development of active food packaging systems with functions that could not be achieved by their traditional counterparts. Such smart and active systems can improve the shelf life of perishable products and overcome major bottlenecks associated with the fabrication of safe and environmentally friendly food packaging systems. Herein, we used a plasma-enabled surface modification strategy to fabricate biodegradable and flexible nanoporous polycaprolactone-based (FNP) films for food packaging systems. Their capacity for preserving tomatoes, tangerines, and bananas at room and refrigeration temperatures was tested by analyzing various fruit parameters (mold generation, appearance changes, freshness, weight loss, firmness, and total soluble solids contents). Compared with commonly used polyethylene terephthalate-based containers, the proposed system enhanced the fruit storage quality (i.e., retained appearance, reduced weight loss, better firmness, and sugar contents) by controlling moisture evaporation and inhibiting mold generation. Thus, the FNP film represents a new active food packaging strategy.

Abstract
A supercritical solvent impregnation (SSI) technique was employed to incorporate, by batch- and semicontinuous-modes, bioactive olive leaf extract (OLE) into a food-grade multilayer polyethylene terephthalate/polypropylene (PET/PP) film for active food packaging applications. The inclusion of OLE in the polymer surfaces significantly modified the colour properties of the film. A correlation of 87.06% between the CIELAB colour parameters and the amount of the OLE impregnated in the film was obtained which suggests that colour determination can be used as a rapid, non-destructive technique to estimate the OLE loading in the impregnated matrices. The UV barrier and water permeability properties of the films were not significantly modified by the incorporation of OLE. The migration of OLE into a 50% (v/v) ethanol food simulant demonstrated faster release of OLE from the PP surface than from the PET surface which may be due to the different interactions between OLE and each polymer.

Abstract
Illness as the result of ingesting bacterially contaminated foodstuffs represents a significant annual loss of human quality of life and economic impact globally. Significant research investment has recently been made in developing new materials that can be used to construct food contacting tools and surfaces that might minimize the risk of cross-contamination of bacteria from one food item to another. This is done to mitigate the spread of bacterial contamination and resultant foodborne illness. Internet-based literature search tools such as Web of Science, Google Scholar, and Scopus were utilized to investigate publishing trends within the last 10 years related to the development of antimicrobial and antifouling surfaces with potential use in food processing applications. Technologies investigated were categorized into four major groups: antimicrobial agent-releasing coatings, contact-based antimicrobial coatings, superhydrophobic antifouling coatings, and repulsion-based antifouling coatings. The advantages for each group and technical challenges remaining before wide-scale implementation were compared. A diverse array of emerging antimicrobial and antifouling technologies were identified, designed to suit a wide range of food contact applications. Although each poses distinct and promising advantages, significant further research investment will likely be required to reliably produce effective materials economically and safely enough to equip large-scale operations such as farms, food processing facilities, and kitchens.

Abstract
In the last years, many of the research studies in the packaging industry have been focused on food active packaging in order to develop new materials capable of retaining the active agent in the polymeric matrix and controlling its release into food, which is not easy in many cases due to the high volatility of the chemical compounds, as well as their ease of diffusion within polymeric matrices. This review presents a complete revision of the studies that have been carried out on the incorporation of volatile compounds to food packaging applications. We provide an overview of the type of volatile compounds used in active food packaging and the most recent trends in the strategies used to incorporate them into different polymeric matrices. Moreover, a thorough discussion regarding the main factors affecting the retention capacity and controlled release of volatile compounds from active food packaging is presented.

Abstract
There is an increasing demand for the use of new food packaging materials. In this study, natural jute fibers impregnated with a Petit Verdot Red Grape Pomace Extract (RGPE) was proposed as a new active food packaging material. Pressurized Liquid Extraction (PLE) and Enhanced Solvent Extraction (ESE) techniques were employed to obtain the bioactive RGPE. Afterward the supercritical solvent impregnation conditions to obtain RGPE-natural jute fibers were studied, by varying pressure, modifier percentage and dried RGPE mass. PLE technique offered the highest bioactive extract at 20 MPa, 55 °C, 1 h residence time using C2H5OH:H2O (1:1 v/v), providing an EC50 of 3.35 ± 0.25 and antibacterial capacity against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MIC of 12.0, 1.5 and 4.0 mg/mL RGPE respectively). The natural jute fibers impregnated with 3 mL of that RGPE (90 mg/mL) at 50 MPa and 55 °C generated the most efficient packing material with regards to its food preservation potential.

Abstract
Studies of phase separation in lower critical solution temperature (LCST) polymer blends exposed to high-pressure CO2 provide an insight to their physical properties. Through using in situ high-pressure ATR-FTIR spectroscopic imaging, this work visualized the dynamic process of phase separation in Polycaprolactone (PCL)/Poly (lactic acid) (PLA) blend under high-pressure CO2 for the first time. ATR-FTIR spectroscopic images revealed that phase separation in PCL/PLA blends occurs with increasing temperature or upon exposure to high-pressure CO2. The change in the morphology of PCL-rich and PLA-rich domains in the ATR-FTIR spectroscopic images can be used to compare the extent of phase separation under different conditions. It is found that the extent of phase separation in PCL/PLA blends under high-pressure CO2 is enhanced with increasing temperature, CO2 pressure and exposure time. The effect of different molecular weights of one blend component, PCL, on the phase separation in PCL/PLA blends was also studied. This pioneering methodology opens possibilities to visualize the process of phase separation in LCST polymer blend systems and it can also be applied to study the process of interdiffusion in upper critical solution temperature (UCST) polymer blends.

Abstract
In the present study, ternary blends based on poly (lactic acid)/poly (ε-caprolactone)/thermoplastic starch were prepared at different concentrations of synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) and thymol. The sizes of ZnO-NPs with an average diameter of about 30-50 nm were detected by FE-SEM analysis. Moreover, the effect of ZnO-NPs and thymol on morphological, FT-IR spectrum, UV absorption, thermal stability, cytotoxicity, and antibacterial properties of neat blend was investigated. TGA analysis showed that the addition of ZnO-NPs and/or thymol diminished thermal stability of the system. Incorporating ZnO-NPs improved antibacterial activities of the neat blend, but MTT-assay and AO fluorescent staining test results depicted a decrease in cell viability to less than 20% by the addition of 5 wt% ZnO-NPs. In such a condition, the addition of thymol to the nanocomposites exhibited a dose-dependent increase in cell survival mostly due to thymol antioxidant properties. Interestingly, the antibacterial performance of compounds was also improved by the presence of thymol. Therefore, the obtained nanocomposites have potential to extend applications of innovative biomedical devices for future research in which both high cell viability and superior antibacterial properties are needed such as an antibacterial wound healing film.

Abstract
Innovation in food packaging is mainly represented by the development of active and intelligent packing technologies, which offer to deliver safer and high-quality food products. Active packaging refers to the incorporation of active component into the package with the aim of maintaining or extending the product quality and shelf-life. The intelligent systems are able to monitor the condition of packaged food in order to provide information about the quality of the product during transportation and storage. These packaging technologies can also work synergistically to yield a multipurpose food packaging system. This review is a critical and up-dated analysis of the results reported in the literature about this fascinating and growing field of research. Several aspects are considered and organized going from the definitions and the regulations, to the specific functions and the technological aspects regarding the manufacturing technologies, in order to have a complete overlook on the overall topic.

Abstract
In the present study, supercritical solvent impregnation (SSI) has been applied to incorporate thymol into bio-composite polymers as a potential active packaging material. Thymol, a natural component with a proven antimicrobial activity, was successfully impregnated into starch-chitosan (SC) and starch-chitosan-zeolite (SCZ) films using supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) as a solvent. Experiments were performed at 35 °C, pressures of 15.5 and 30 MPa, and an impregnation time in the range of 4–24 h. The highest impregnation yields of SC films with starch to chitosan mass ratios of 1:1 and 1:2 were 10.80% and 6.48%, respectively. The addition of natural zeolite (15–60%) significantly increased the loading capacity of films enabling thymol incorporation in a quantity of 16.7–27.3%. FTIR and SEM analyses were applied for the characterization of the films. Mechanical properties and water vapor permeability of films before and after the impregnation were tested as well. Thymol release kinetics in deionized water was followed and modeled by the Korsmeyer-Peppas and Weibull model. SCZ films with thymol loading of approximately 24% exhibited strong antibacterial activity against E. coli and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus (S.) aureus (MRSA).

Abstract
Bacterial resistance to antibiotics is one of the biggest problems in the modern world. The prevention of bacterial spreading from hospitals to the community and vice versa is an issue we have to deal with. This review presents a vast potential of contemporary high-pressure techniques in the design of materials with antimicrobial activity. Scientists from all over the world came up with ideas on how to exploit extraordinary properties of supercritical fluids in the production of advantageous materials in an environmentally friendly way. The review summarizes reported methods and results.

Abstract
The success of oil-based plastics and the continued growth of production and utilisation can be attributed to their cost, durability, strength to weight ratio, and eight contributions to the ease of everyday life. However, their mainly single use, durability and recalcitrant nature have led to a substantial increase of plastics as a fraction of municipal solid waste. The need to substitute single use products that are not easy to collect has inspired a lot of research towards finding sustainable replacements for oil-based plastics. In addition, specific physicochemical, biological, and degradation properties of biodegradable polymers have made them attractive materials for biomedical applications. This review summarises the advances in drug delivery systems, specifically design of nanoparticles based on the biodegradable polymers. We also discuss the research performed in the area of biophotonics and challenges and opportunities brought by the design and application of biodegradable polymers in tissue engineering. We then discuss state-of-the-art research in the design and application of biodegradable polymers in packaging and emphasise the advances in smart packaging development. Finally, we provide an overview of the biodegradation of these polymers and composites in managed and unmanaged environments.

Abstract
The publication describes a process combining the extraction of plant material and impregnation of biodegradable polymers (polylactide (PLA) and polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA)). As raw plant materials for making extracts, Cistus and green walnut husk were selected due to their high content of active phytochemicals, including antioxidants. The extracts used to impregnate polymers contained valuable polyphenolic compounds, as confirmed by FTIR and UV–Vis spectroscopy. After impregnation, the polymer samples showed greater thermal stability, determined by the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) method. In addition, despite the presence of natural antibacterial and antifungal substances in the extracts, the polyester samples remained biodegradable. The manuscript also describes the effect of UV aging on the change of surface free energy and the color of polymers. UV aging has been selected for testing due to the high susceptibility of plant compounds to this degrading factor. The combination of the extraction of plant material and polymer impregnation in one process proved to be an effective and functional method, as both the obtained plant extracts and impregnated polymers showed the expected properties.
