Abstract
Solid phase extraction (SPE) using traditional column materials offers several advantages, but its ability to simultaneously extract and purify commonly used veterinary drugs, such as chloramphenicol, malachite green, leuco-malachite green and semi-carbazone, remains unproven.Therefore, in the present study, a rapid analytical method based on ultrasound-assisted SPE combined with colloidal gold test strips was developed and applied herein to determine the residues of these veterinary drugs in common aquatic products. Under optimized conditions, the method achieved a limit of detection in the range of 0.01-0.5 μg/kg, inter-day RSDs of the spiked samples in the ranges of 0.99-5.58 % and 1.6-7.2 %, and absolute recoveries in the range of 84.2-112.9 % using the colloidal gold immunoassay and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay methods, respectively. The SPE column efficiently enriched the four veterinary drugs simultaneously, showing considerable potential for determining common veterinary drug residues in aquatic products.

Abstract
Innovative and eco-friendly methodologies for the determination of phenolic compounds, showing a paradigm shift in analytical chemistry toward sustainability. Phenolic compounds, valued for their diverse health benefits, have historically been analyzed using methods that often involve hazardous solvents and energy-intensive processes. This review focuses on green analytical chemistry principles, emphasizing sustainability, reduced environmental impact, and analytical efficiency. The use of DES, specifically Ch: Chl-based DES, emerges as a prominent green alternative for extracting phenolic compounds from various sources. The integration of UAE with DES enhances extraction efficiency, contributing to a more sustainable analytical approach. Furthermore, the review highlights the significance of DLLME and SPME in reducing solvent consumption and simplifying extraction procedures. These techniques exemplify the commitment to making phenolic compound analysis environmentally friendly. The incorporation of portable measurement tools, such as smartphones, into analytical methodologies is a notable aspect discussed in the review. Techniques like UA-DLLME leverage portable devices, making phenolic compound determination more accessible and versatile. Anticipating the future, the review foresees ongoing advancements in sustainable analytical approaches, driven by collaborative efforts across diverse disciplines. Novel solvents, extraction techniques, and portable measurement methods are expected to play pivotal roles in the continuous evolution of green analytical methodologies for the analysis of phenolic compounds. The review encapsulates a transformative journey toward environmentally responsible and efficient analytical practices, paving the way for further research and application in diverse analytical settings.

Abstract
Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) peel is a potential source of bioactive phenolic compounds such as ellagic acid and α- and β-punicalagin. This work explores the efficiency of natural deep eutectic solvents combined with ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) and pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) for their extraction. Five NaDESs were evaluated by employing UAE (25 °C, for 50 min) to determine their total phenolic content (Folin-Ciocalteu assay) and ellagic acid and α- and β-punicalagin contents (high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC-DAD)). The NaDES composed of choline chloride (ChCl) and glycerol (Gly) (1:2, molar ratio) was the most efficient in the UAE when compared with the rest of the NaDESs and water extracts. Therefore, ChCl:Gly was further evaluated using PLE at different temperatures (40, 80, 120 and 160 °C). The PLE-NaDES extract obtained at 80 °C for 20 min at 1500 psi exhibited the highest contents of ellagic acid and α- and β-punicalagin compared to the rest of the temperatures and PLE-water extracts obtained under the same extraction conditions. Combining UAE or PLE with a NaDES emerges as a sustainable alternative for extracting ellagic acid and α- and β-punicalagin from pomegranate peel.

Abstract
A new sensitive method of liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis for nine fasciolicides (closantel, rafoxanide, oxyclozanide, niclosamide, nitroxinil, ioxynil, 4-nitro-3-(trifluoromethyl)phenol, salicylanilide, and triclabendazole) and three metabolite residues (ketotriclabnedazole, triclabendazole sulfone, and triclabendazole sulfoxide) in milk and infant formula was established. The samples were extracted and purified through solid-phase extraction and analyzed using LC-MS/MS. The proposed method demonstrated high accuracy (the average recoveries ranged from 70.5 % to 107.4 %) and high sensitivity (the limits of quantification ranged from 1.0 to 25.0 µg/kg). This method was successfully applied to determine nine fasciolicides and three metabolite residues in 45 milk and infant formula, providing technical support for the safety and quality evaluation of dairy products.

Abstract
Citrus fruits (CF) are highly consumed worldwide, fresh, processed, or prepared as juices and pies. To illustrate the high economic importance of CF, the global production of these commodities in 2021 was around 98 million tons. CF's composition is considered an excellent source of phenolic compounds (PC) as they have a large amount and variety. Since ancient times, PC has been highlighted to promote several benefits related to oxidative stress disorders, such as chronic diseases and cancer. Recent studies suggest that consuming citrus fruits can prevent some of these diseases. However, due to the complexity of citrus matrices, extracting compounds of interest from these types of samples, and identifying and quantifying them effectively, is not a simple task. In this context, several extractive and analytical proposals have been used. This review discusses current research involving CF, focusing mainly on PC extraction and analysis methods, regarding advantages and disadvantages from the perspective of Green Chemistry.

Abstract
Previous studies have indicated that there may be differences among the varieties of lemon flavonoids, but the details have not yet been made clear, which limits the comprehensive use of different cultivated lemon varieties. In this study, ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time-of-flight-mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS) and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis) were used to investigate the types and contents of flavonoids in the flesh of the main cultivated variety (Eureka) and five common lemon varieties, as well as their in vitro antioxidant activity. A total of 21 compounds were identified, five of which were common compounds. Among them, Verna, Lisbon, and Bearss each have characteristic components that can serve as potential criteria for variety identification. Each of the six varieties of lemon has strong antioxidant activity. The antioxidant activity of different lemon varieties is related to flavonoids. Therefore, Eureka and the other five varieties of lemon are good natural antioxidants, and the cultivation and industrial production of lemons should consider the needs and selection of suitable varieties.

Abstract
Secondary metabolites are essential components for the survival of plants. Secondary metabolites in complex mixtures from plants have been adopted and documented by different traditional medicinal systems worldwide for the treatment of various human diseases. The extraction strategies are the key components for therapeutic development from natural sources. Polarity-dependent solvent-selective extraction, acidic and basic solution-based extraction, and microwave- and ultrasound-assisted extraction are some of the most important strategies for the extraction of natural products from plants. The method needs to be optimized to isolate a specific class of compounds. Therefore, to establish the mechanism of action, the characterization of the secondary metabolites, in a mixture or in their pure forms, is equally important. LC-MS, GC-MS, and extensive NMR spectroscopic strategies are established techniques for the profiling of metabolites in crude extracts. Various protocols for the extraction and characterization of a wide range of classes of compounds have been developed by various research groups and are described in this review. Additionally, the possible means of characterizing the compounds in the mixture and their uniqueness are also discussed. Hyphenated techniques are crucial for profiling because of their ability to analyze a vast range of compounds. In contrast, inherent chemical shifts make NMR an indispensable tool for structure elucidation in complex mixtures.

Abstract
The pursuit for better skin health, driven by collective and individual perceptions, has led to the demand for sustainable skincare products. Environmental factors and lifestyle choices can accelerate skin aging, causing issues like inflammation, wrinkles, elasticity loss, hyperpigmentation, and dryness. The skincare industry is innovating to meet consumers' requests for cleaner and natural options. Simultaneously, environmental issues concerning waste generation have been leading to sustainable strategies based on the circular economy. A noteworthy solution consists of citrus by-product valorization, as such by-products can be used as a source of bioactive molecules. Citrus processing, particularly, generates substantial waste amounts (around 50% of the whole fruit), causing unprecedented environmental burdens. Hesperidin, a flavonoid abundant in orange peels, is considered to hold immense potential for clean skin health product applications due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticarcinogenic properties. This review explores hesperidin extraction and purification methodologies as well as key skincare application areas: (i) antiaging and skin barrier enhancement, (ii) UV radiation-induced damage, (iii) hyperpigmentation and depigmentation conditions, (iv) wound healing, and (v) skin cancer and other cutaneous diseases. This work's novelty lies in the comprehensive coverage of hesperidin's promising skincare applications while also demonstrating its potential as a sustainable ingredient from a circular economy approach.

Abstract
BACKGROUND As a common pollutant, the carcinogenic properties of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons have garnered considerable attention. Trace metabolites of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons can be detected in urine as a non-invasively approach to monitor the exposure level. Nonetheless, the urine samples have the disadvantages of being large in volume and containing numerous impurities. Given the growing demand to study metabolites with low abundance and potential biomarkers, there is a pressing need for a preconcentration and high-throughput technique for effectively handling complex liquid samples. RESULTS Polystyrene-coated magnetic nanoparticles were used to establish a novel magnetic extraction method for monohydroxy polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in urine samples. Polystyrene magnetic nanoparticles are an ideal absorbent for solid-phase extraction. After the material was mixed with the sample and adsorbed the target analyte, the analytes on the material were eluted and quantified using high-performance liquid chromatography. Influencing factors were optimized, and the proposed method achieved desirable sensitivity in analyzing low-abundance metabolites in large volumes of complex urine samples. The recoveries of intra-day and inter-day were 78.0-118.0 % and 81.0 %-115.0 %, respectively. The intra-day and inter-day reproducibility were less than 4.5 % and 8.6 %, respectively. The limits of detection were in the range of 0.009-0.041 ng mL-1, and the limits of quantification were in the range of 0.030-0.135 ng mL-1. SIGNIFICANCE AND NOVELTY The application of reusable polystyrene-coated magnetic solid-phase nanoparticles as adsorbents makes the extraction of monohydroxy polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from urine samples economical and environmentally benign. The proposed method is simple, sensitive, and efficient compared to existing techniques. The nanoparticles are easy to prepare, showing potential for rapid screening of complex bulk bio-samples in batches with high efficiency and low budget.

Abstract
This systematic review seeks to highlight, from the published literature about the extraction and application of lemon by-products rich in flavonoids, which works use environmentally friendly technologies and solvents and which ones propose a potentially functional food application, according to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). WoS and SCOPUS were used as scientific databases for searching the documents, which were evaluated through 10 quality questions according to their adherence to our purpose (5 questions evaluating papers devoted to lemon flavonoid extraction and 5 concerning the application of such by-products in new foods). Each question was evaluated as "Yes", "No", or "does Not refer", according to its adherence to our aim. The analysis reported 39 manuscripts related to lemon flavonoid extraction; 89% of them used green technologies and solvents. On the other hand, 18 manuscripts were related to the incorporation of lemon by-products into new foods, of which 41% adhered to our purpose and only 35% evaluated the functionality of such incorporation. Conclusively, although the bibliography is extensive, there are still some gaps for further investigation concerning the extraction and application of lemon by-products to reduce food losses in an environmentally friendly way and the possible development of new functional foods, which must be performed following the SDGs.

Abstract
Seaweeds are an underutilized food in the Western world, but they are widely consumed in Asia, with China being the world’s larger producer. Seaweeds have gained attention in the food industry in recent years because of their composition, which includes polysaccharides, lipids, proteins, dietary fiber, and various bioactive compounds such as vitamins, essential minerals, phenolic compounds, and pigments. Extraction techniques, ranging from more traditional techniques such as maceration to novel technologies, are required to obtain these components. Pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) is a green technique that uses high temperatures and pressure applied in conjunction with a solvent to extract components from a solid matrix. To improve the efficiency of this technique, different parameters such as the solvent, temperature, pressure, extraction time and number of cycles should be carefully optimized. It is important to note that PLE conditions allow for the extraction of target analytes in a short-time period while using less solvent and maintaining a high yield. Moreover, the combination of PLE with other techniques has been already applied to extract compounds from different matrices, including seaweeds. In this way, the combination of PLE-SFE-CO2 seems to be the best option considering both the higher yields obtained and the economic feasibility of a scaling-up approximation. In addition, the food industry is interested in incorporating the compounds extracted from edible seaweeds into food packaging (including edible coating, bioplastics and bio-nanocomposites incorporated into bioplastics), food products and animal feed to improve their nutritional profile and technological properties. This review attempts to compile and analyze the current data available regarding the application of PLE in seaweeds to determine the use of this extraction technique as a method to obtain active compounds of interest for food industry application.

Abstract
Above 1000 invasive species have been growing and developing ubiquitously on Earth. With extremely vigorous adaptability, strong reproduction, and spreading powers, invasive species have posed an alarming threat to indigenous plants, water quality, soil, as well as biodiversity. It was estimated that an economic loss of billions of dollars or equivalent to 1 % of gross domestic product as a consequence of lost crops, control efforts, and damage costs caused by invasive plants in the United States. While eradicating invasive plants from the ecosystems is practically infeasible, taking advantage of invasive plants as a sustainable, locally available, and zero-cost source to provide valuable phytochemicals for bionanoparticles fabrication is worth considering. Here, we review the harms, benefits, and role of invasive species as important botanical sources to extract natural compounds such as piceatannol, resveratrol, and quadrangularin-A, flavonoids, and triterpenoids, which are linked tightly to the formation and application of bionanoparticles. As expected, the invasive plant-mediated bionanoparticles have exhibited outstanding antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, and antioxidant activities. The mechanism of biomedical activities of the invasive plant-mediated bionanoparticles was insightfully addressed and discussed. We also expect that this review not only contributes to efforts to combat invasive plant species but also opens new frontiers of bionanoparticles in the biomedical applications, therapeutic treatment, and smart agriculture.

Abstract
Since the dietary regimen rich in fruits is being widely recognized and encouraged, Citrus L. fruits have been growing in popularity worldwide due to their high amounts of health-promoting phytonutrients and bioactive compounds, such as flavonoids, phenolic acids, vitamins, carotenoids, pectins, and fatty acids. The diverse physicochemical properties and multiple utilization of citrus fruits in food industry are associated with their unique chemical compositions. Throughout the world, citrus has been used for producing various value-added and nutritionally enhanced products, including juices, wines, jams, canned citrus, and dried citrus. However, the current studies regarding the phytochemical and nutritional characteristics and food applications of citrus are scattered. This review systematically summarizes the existing bibliography on the chemical characteristics, functional and nutraceutical benefits, processing, and potential applications of citrus. A thorough understanding of this information may provide scientific guidance for better utilizing citrus as a functional fruit and benefit the extension of citrus value chain.
