Abstract
Metals play essential roles in life by coordination with small molecules, proteins, and nucleic acids. Although the coordination of copper ions in many proteins and methanobactins is known, the coordination chemistry of Cu(II) in natural products and their biological functions remain underexplored. Herein, we report the discovery of a Cu(II)-binding natural product, chalkophomycin (CHM, 1), from Streptomyces sp. CB00271, featuring an asymmetric square-coordination system of a bidentate diazeniumdiolate and a conjugated 1H-pyrrole 1-oxide-oxazoline. The structure of 1 may inspire the synthesis of Cu(II) chelators against neurodegenerative diseases or Cu(II)-based antitumor therapeutics.

Abstract
Two new glycine-Schiff base copper(II) complexes were synthesized. Single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) allowed us to establish the structure of both complexes in the solid state. The glycine-Schiff base copper(II) complex derived from 2′-hydroxy-5′-nitroacetophenone showed a mononuclear hydrated structure, in which the Schiff base acted as a tridentate ligand, and the glycine-Schiff base copper(II) complex derived from 2′-hydroxy-5′-methylacetophenone showed a less common tetranuclear anhydrous metallocyclic structure, in which the Schiff base acted as a tetradentate ligand. In both compounds, copper(II) had a tetracoordinated square planar geometry. The results of vibrational, electronic, and paramagnetic spectroscopies, as well as thermal analysis, were consistent with the crystal structures. Both complexes were evaluated as catalysts in the olefin cyclopropanation by carbene transference, and both led to very high diastereoselectivity (greater than 98%).

Abstract
Four mononuclear bioefficient imine-based coordination complexes, [(L 1 ) 2 Cu], [(L 1 ) 2 Zn], [(L 2 )Cu(H 2 O)], and [(L 2 )Zn(H 2 O)], were synthesized using ligands [L 1 = 2-(((3-hydroxynaphthalen-2-yl)methylene)amino)-2-methylpropane-1,3-diol and L 2 = 4-(1-((1,3-dihydroxy-2-methylpropan-2-yl)imino)ethyl)benzene-1,3-diol]. The formation of the complexes was ascertained by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, electrospray ionization-mass spectroscopy, electron paramagnetic resonance, and thermogravimetric analysis. The comparative binding propensity profiles of the above-synthesized complexes with the DNA/human serum albumin (HSA) were investigated via UV absorption, fluorescence, and Förster resonance energy-transfer studies. On the basis of extended conjugation and planarity, L 1 complexes exhibited superior bioactivity with greater calculated DNA binding constant values, (K b) 2.9444 × 103 [(L 1 ) 2 Cu] and 2.2693 × 103 [(L 1 ) 2 Zn], as compared to L 2 complexes, 1.793 × 103 [(L 2 )Cu(H 2 O)] and 9.801 × 102 [(L 2 )Zn(H 2 O)]. The competitive displacement assay of complexes was performed by means of fluorogenic dyes (EtBr and Hoechst), which corroborates the occurrence of minor groove binding because of the enhanced displacement activity with Hoechst 33258. The minor groove binding of the [(L 1 ) 2 Cu] complex is further confirmed by the molecular docking study. Moreover, the HSA study demonstrated effective static quenching of complexes with substantial K sv values. The [(L 1 ) 2 Cu] complex was found to have pronounced cleavage efficiency as evaluated from sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis electrophoresis. Furthermore, in vitro antioxidant activity against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and superoxide radicals further proclaimed the remarkable bioefficiency of compounds, which make them promising as active chemotherapeutic agents.

Abstract
In this study, two simple Schiff base copper complexes [Cu(H2O)2(HL)]·2H2O (Complex 1) (H3L = 2-OH-4-(OH)-C6H2CH=NCH2CO2H) and [Cu(py)2(HL)] (Complex 2) (Py = pyridine) were initially achieved and authenticated by single-crystal X-ray structure analyses (SXRD), powder X-ray diffraction analyses (PXRD), FT-IR spectroscopy, and elemental analyses. The SXRD reveals that the Cu2+ center in Complex 1 exhibited a distorted square pyramidal geometry, which is constructed based on phenolate oxygen, water molecules, carboxylate oxygen, and imine nitrogen from a deprotonated H3L ligand in an NO4 fashion. The Cu2+ atom in Complex 2 had distorted square pyramidal geometry, and was coordinated with two pyridine molecules and one Gly-Schiff base ligand, exhibiting an N3O2 binding set. Additionally, the free water molecules in Complex 1 linked independent copper complexes by intermolecular hydrogen bond to form a 2D framework. However, the one-dimensional chain supramolecular structure of Complex 2 was formed by the intermolecular O–H…O hydrogen bonds. The oxygen reduction performance of the two complexes was analyzed by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and the rotating disk electrode (RDE) method. Both complexes could catalyze the conversion of oxygen to water through a predominant four-electron pathway, and the Cu–NxOy moieties might be the functional moieties for the catalytic activity. The catalytic pathways and underlying mechanisms are also discussed in detail, from which the structure–activity relationship of the complexes was obtained.

Abstract
A trinuclear copper(II) phthalocyanine complex was synthesized by chelate coordination of the peripherally introduced Schiff-base nitrogen and phenoxide oxygen on the Cu(pc) core to a copper(II) ion. The magnetic, spectral and electrochemical properties were compared with those of the precursor mononuclear Cu(pc) complex with the NO chelate coordination site and a mononuclear Schiff-base copper(II) complex corresponding to the central bis-chelated unit of the title trinuclear complex. A stronger aggregating nature of the trinuclear complex compared with the precursor mononuclear Cu(pc) complex was confirmed by the spectral change of the Q band feature coming from the coordination to the copper(II) ion in dichloromethane. Two successive pc-ring reduction waves were not observed for the trinuclear complex in dichloromethane containing TBP(PF[Formula: see text], alternatively showing an irreversible wave in the reduction side. The central bis-chelated copper(II) ion was considered to play an important role for the redox behavior of the trinuclear complex.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Four new copper complexes based on bidentate imino phenoxide ligands were synthesized and characterized by IR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, ESI mass spectrometry, single crystal X-ray diffraction, and electrochemistry. The crystal structures revealed that the copper(II) atoms are surrounded by phenolate oxygen and imine nitrogen atoms of two ligands in a distorted square-planar geometry. The existence of ligand-centered, as well as Cu(II)-centered quasi-reversible and reversible redox reactions are observed in the cyclic voltammetry experiments of all the complexes. All complexes are able to catalyze the ring-opening polymerization of rac-lactide yielding polymers with moderate molecular weights and moderately broad molecular weight distributions. Abstract
Eight lipophilic 3-hydroxy-4-pyridinones have been prepared from a microwave-mediated reaction along with the corresponding copper(II) complexes. All complexes have been obtained elementally pure and X-ray diffraction studies on two of the copper complexes have confirmed the structure of these compounds. Some of these complexes showed a promising degree of anti-mycobacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, where activity seemed to vary by substitution at the pyridinone nitrogen atom.

Abstract
The experimental and theoretical vibrational spectra of 4,5-Bis(hydroxymethyl)-2-methylpyridin-3-ol were investigated. The experimental FT-IR (450-4000cm(-1)) and FT-Raman spectra (100-3600cm(-1)) of the molecule in the solid phase were recorded. Theoretical vibrational frequencies and geometric parameters (bond lengths and bond angles) were calculated using ab initio Hartree Fock (HF) and density functional B3LYP method with 6-31G(d), 6-311++G(d,p) basis sets by Gaussian program, for the first time. The complete assignments were performed on the basis of the potential energy distribution (PED) of the vibrational modes, calculated with scaled quantum mechanical (SQM) method. The formation of the hydrogen bond was investigated using NBO calculations. The calculated HOMO and LUMO energies show that charge transfer occur within the molecule.

Abstract
In the title compound, [Cu(C12H16NO2)2], the CuII ion, located on a center of inversion, is coordinated by two singly deprotonated Schiff base ligands derived from condensation of salicyldehyde and 1-aminopentan-5-ol. The imino N and phenol O atoms from both ligands offer a square-planar arrangement around the metal ion. The Cu—N and Cu—O bond lengths are 2.0146 (15) and 1.8870 (12) Å, respectively. Since the Cu—O and Cu—N bond lengths are different, it can be concluded that the resulting geometry of the complex is distorted. The aliphatic –OH group of the ligand is not coordinated and points away from the metal coordination zone and actively participates in hydrogen bonding connecting two other units and thus stabilizing the crystal lattice. This results in a two-dimensional extended array parallel to (201).

Abstract
The Schiff base ligand, N,N'-bis-(4-isopropylbenzaldimine)-1,2-diaminoethane (L), obtained by the condensation of 4-isopropylbenzaldehyde and 1,2-diaminoethane, has been used to synthesize the complexes of the type [ML(2)X(2)] [M = Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II); X = Cl and OAc]. The newly synthesized ligand (L) and its complexes have been characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, mass, (1)H and (13)C-NMR, molar conductance, IR, UV-vis, magnetic moment, CV and thermal analyses, powder XRD and SEM. IR spectral data show that the ligand is coordinated to the metal ions in a bidentate manner. The geometrical structures of these complexes are found to be octahedral. Interestingly, reaction with Cu(II) ion with this ligand undergoes hydrolytic cleavage to form ethylenediamine copper(II) complex and the corresponding aldehyde. The antimicrobial results indicate that the chloro complexes exhibit more activity than the acetato complexes. The complexes bind to CT-DNA by intercalation modes. Novel chloroform soluble ZnL(2)Cl(2) complex exhibits tremendous antimicrobial, DNA binding and cleaving properties.

Abstract
The title compound, C15H15N3O, was obtained by a condensation reaction between o-aminoacetophenone and benzoyl hydrazine. The molecule displays an E configuration about the C=N bond. Intramolecular N—H⋯N hydrogen bonds are formed between the 2-aminophenyl and imine groups. In the crystal, dimers are formed between molecules linked by intermolecular N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds from the 2-aminophenyl group. In addition there are intermolecular N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the amine and carbonyl groups of adjacent molecules. The molecule is twisted rather than planar due to a steric interaction between the central amide group and the two outer benzene rings. The dihedral angles between this central group and the two rings are 23.29 (9) and 24.96 (9)°.

Abstract
In the title compound, [Cu(C(20)H(14)N(2)O(4))]·2CH(3)OH, the Cu(II) ion is coordinated by two N [Cu-N = 1.933 (2) and 1.941 (2) Å] and two O [Cu-O = 1.890 (2) and 1.9038 (19) Å] atoms from the tetra-dentate Schiff base ligand 5,5'-dihydr-oxy-2,2'-[o-phenyl-enebis(nitrilo-methyl-idyne)]diphen-olate (L) in a distorted square-planar geometry. In the crystal, inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link two CuL mol-ecules and four solvent mol-ecules into a centrosymmetric cluster. The crystal packing exhibits short inter-molecular C⋯C contacts of 3.185 (4) and 3.232 (4) Å.
