Synthesis, structure and photophysical properties of 2-benzhydryl-4-methyl-6-(aryliminomethyl)phenol ligands and the zinc complexes thereof

Crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of (Z)-2-{[(2,4-di-methyl-phen-yl)imino]-meth-yl}-4-methyl-phenol

The title compound, C16H17NO, is a Schiff base that exists in the enol-imine tautomeric form and adopts a Z configuration. The mol-ecule is non-planar, with the twisted rings making a dihedral angle of 39.92 (4)°. The intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bond forms an S(6) ring motif. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by C-H⋯π inter-actions and very weak π-π stacking inter-actions also help to consolidate the crystal packing. A Hirshfeld surface analysis was performed to investigate the contributions of different inter-molecular contacts within the supra-molecular structure. The major contributions are from H⋯H (65%), C⋯H (19.2%) and O⋯H (6.6%) inter-actions.

Solvent effect and fluorescence response of the 7-tert-butylpyrene-dipicolylamine linkage for the selective and sensitive response toward Zn(ii) and Cd(ii) ions

The complexation behaviour of new fluorescent sensors based on 7-tert-butylpyrene towards Zn²⁺and Cd²⁺in different solvent systems has been investigated.

Synthesis, characterization and fluorescent properties of 5-(aryliminomethyl)quinaldine-8-ol derivatives and their trinuclear zinc complexes

A series of 5-[1-(arylimino)methyl]quinaldine-8-ol derivatives L1-L5 and their trinuclear zinc(II) complexes (C1-C5) were synthesized. The compounds L1-L5 were fully characterized by the FT-IR spectra, NMR measurement and elemental analysis, meanwhile the zinc complexes C1-C5 were characterized by the FT-IR spectra and elemental analysis as well as the single crystal X-ray diffraction of a representative complex C3, which revealed a trinuclear zinc complex bearing six organic ligands. The fluorescent properties of both organic compounds and the zinc complexes have been carefully investigated by the UV-Vis absorption in various solvents, indicating the significant influences of the solvents and also double exponential decays.

Zinc 2-((2-(benzoimidazol-2-yl)quinolin-8-ylimino)methyl)phenolates: synthesis, characterization and photoluminescence behavior

A series of 2-(2-(1H-benzoimidazol-2-yl)quinolin-8-yliminomethyl)phenol derivatives and their zinc complexes (C1-C5) were synthesized and fully characterized. The molecular structure of the representative complex C2 was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction, which revealed that the zinc was five-coordinated with the tetra-dentate ligand and a methanol bound to the metal to afford a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. The UV-Vis absorption and fluorescence spectra of the organic compounds and their zinc complexes were measured and investigated in various solvents such as methanol, THF, dichloromethane, and toluene; significant influences by solvents were observed on their luminescent properties; red-shifts for the zinc complexes were clearly observed in comparison to the free organic compounds.
