Abstract
New metal(II) complexes (CuL2 and ZnL2) with pyrimidine appended Schiff base ligand (HL) were synthesized and characterized by diverse spectroscopic methods, reveals the proposed structure of metal(II) complexes possess square planar geometry. DNA interaction ability of isolated compounds was studied by UV-Visible, fluorescence, viscometric and electrochemical methods and the results showed that isolated compounds intercalated with calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA). In addition, anticancer activities of HL, CuL2, and ZnL2 have been evaluated by MTT assay, signifying moderate cytotoxic activity on selected cancer cell lines and less toxicity on NHDF normal cell line due to the specific targeting of pyrimidine analogues. Moreover, antioxidant activities of isolated compounds towards diverse free radicals have been studied by spectrophotometric methods. These results showed that CuL2 has better antioxidant ability than HL and ZnL2. Finally, antimicrobial activities of isolated compounds against selected antimicrobial pathogens exposed that CuL2 has better antimicrobial activity on E. coli and C. albicans than other antimicrobial pathogens. The DFT calculations have been done to get the optimized geometry of the ligand and the metal complexes. In order to get a broad understanding of the interactions of these synthesized metal complexes, a detailed molecular docking analysis is taken up.

Abstract
Abstract
A study of the anti-tuberculosis activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis ATTC 27294 and an X-ray structural determination of (E)-2-[2-(arylidene)hydrazinyl]pyrimidine, 1, and (E)-N
1-(arylidene)pyrimidine-2-carbohydazide, 2, derivatives are presented. The effect of the substituents in the aryl moiety on the antituberculosis (anti-TB) activities of 1 and 2 is compared with that of other heteroaryl hydrazonyl and acylhydrazonyl derivatives. The biological activities of 1 do not depend on the coordinating ability of the substituted aryl group: in 2, the most effective aryl group is 5-nitrofuranyl. The structure determinations of (E)-2-((2-(pyrimidin-2-yl)hydrazono)methyl)-phenol, (E)-N′-(2,5-dihydroxybenzylidene)pyrimidine-2-carbohydrazide and of the hydrate of (E)-N′-(2-hydroxy-4-methylbenzylidene)pyrimidine-2-carbohydrazide, and a literature search of related structures in the CCDC data base, allowed an examination of the more important interactions, including the occurrence of X–Y⋯π interactions.

Abstract
A new N3S2 pentadentate Schiff base ligand derived from 5-bromothiophene-2-carbaldehyde, (E)-N1-((5-bromothiophen-2-yl)methylene)-N2-(2-((E)-((5-bromothiophen-2-yl)-methylene amino) ethyl ethane-1,2-diamine, is prepared. The ligand and its complexes are subjected to extensive physical and theoretical analyses and the results are consistent with their predicted compositions. Dicationic Cu(ii) complexes ([CuN3S2]X2) with a coordination number of 5 are proposed on the basis of the spectral data with N3S2 serving as a pentadentate ligand. The prepared complexes display a square pyramidal geometry around the Cu(ii) center. TG shows different thermal behavior for the N3S2 ligand and its complexes. Solvatochromism of the complexes is promoted by the polarity of the solvent used. A one-electron transfer Cu(ii)/Cu(i) reversible redox reaction is promoted by CV. SEM and EDS of the free ligand and its complexes support the morphology and composition changes observed upon the complexation of Cu(ii). As an outstanding goal to develop anticancer new metal chemotherapy, preliminary studies of the binding of the desired complexes with DNA were carried out, as it is through judging the strength of interactions that a future drug can be designed and synthesized. The viscosity and absorption results obtained for complex 1 indicated its enhanced CT-DNA binding properties as compared to those of complex 2 with Kb values of 3.2 × 105 and 2.5 × 105 M−1, respectively. A new N3S2 pentadentate Schiff base ligand derived from 5-bromothiophene-2-carbaldehyde, (E)-N1-((5-bromothiophen-2-yl)methylene)-N2-(2-((E)-((5-bromothiophen-2-yl)-methylene amino) ethyl ethane-1,2-diamine, is prepared.![]()

Abstract
In this study, two novel binuclear Co(II) complexes, [Co4(L1)2(CH3CH2O)4·5.5H2O (1) and [Co2(L2)2(CH3COO)(H2O)]·2CH3OH·3H2O (2)], with the ligands H3L1 and H2L2 were synthesized and structurally characterized using single crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal structures of complex 1 and 2 belong to a monoclinic system with space group of P2(1)/n and triclinic system with space group of P-1, respectively. Their interaction with CT-DNA was investigated using electron absorption and fluorescent spectroscopy. The apparent binding constants (Kapp) of two complexes (1 and 2) were determined to be 5.34 × 105 and 5.82 × 105, respectively, and both exhibited a moderate intensity of insertion with 2 > 1. Fluorescence quenching studies indicated that the fluorescence quenching mechanism of complex 1 is dynamic quenching and that of complex 2 is a static quenching mechanism. The chemical nuclease activity of the complexes was studied using agarose gel electrophoresis. The results suggest that when H2O2 is added, complexes 1 and 2 exhibit chemical nuclease activity. The cleavage mechanisms between the complexes and plasmid DNA are the likely oxidative cleavage process of hydroxyl radical (OH) and singlet oxygen (1O2) as active species.

Abstract
A series of perimidine derivatives (L1-5) were prepared and characterized by IR, 1H·NMR, mass spectroscopy, UV-Vis, XRD, thermal, and SEM analysis. Five VO(II) complexes were synthesized and investigated by most previous tools besides the theoretical usage. A neutral tetradentate mode of bonding is the general approach for all binding ligands towards bi-vanadyl atoms. A square-pyramidal is the configuration proposed for all complexes. XRD analysis introduces the nanocrystalline nature of the ligand while the amorphous appearance of its metal ion complexes. The rocky shape is the observable surface morphology from SEM images. Thermal analysis verifies the presence of water of crystallization with all coordination spheres. The optimization process was accomplished using the Gaussian 09 software by different methods. The most stable configurations were extracted and displayed. Essential parameters were computed based on frontier energy gaps with all compounds. QSAR parameters were also obtained to give another side of view about the biological approach with the priority of the L3 ligand. Applying AutoDockTools 4.2 program over all perimidine derivatives introduces efficiency against 4c3p protein of breast cancer. Antitumor activity was screened for all compounds by a comparative view over breast, colon, and liver carcinoma cell lines. IC50 values represent promising efficiency of the L4-VO(II) complex against breast, colon, and liver carcinoma cell lines. The binding efficiency of ligands towards CT-DNA was tested. Binding constant (K b) values are in agreement with the electron-drawing character of the p-substituent which offers high K b values. Also, variable Hammett's relations were drawn.

Abstract
The interaction of tetracationic porphyrins with DNA was studied using UV-Vis absorption, fluorescence spectroscopy and viscometry, and the particle sizes were determined. Аs cationic porphyrins, two isomer porphyrins, 3,3',3″,3‴-(5,10,15,20-Porphyrintetrayl)tetrakis(1-methylpyridinium) (TMPyP3) and 4,4',4″,4‴-(5,10,15,20-Porphyrintetrayl)tetrakis(1-methylpyridinium) (TMPyP4), were studied. They differ in the position of NCH3+ group in phenyl ring of the porphyrins and hence, in degree of freedom of rotation of the phenyl rings about the central macrocycle. It was found that intercalated complexes are formed at DNA/porphyrin molar ratios (R) of 2.2 and 3.9 for TMPyP3 и TMPyP4, respectively. Decreasing R up to 0.4 and 0.8 for TMPyP3 и TMPyP4, respectively, leads mainly to formation of outside complexes due to π-π stacking between the porphyrin chromophores interacting electrostatically with phosphate framework of DNA. Each type of the obtained complexes was characterized using Scatchard approach. It was ascertained that the affinity of TMPyP4 to DNA is stronger than TMPyP3, meanwhile the wedge effect of the latter is higher. The differences between the porphyrin isomers become more evident at irradiation of their complexes with DNA. It was established that irradiation of the intercalated complexes results in DNA fragmentation. In the case of TMPyP4, DNA fragments of different size are formed. The irradiation of the outside DNA/porphyrin complexes leads to cleavage of DNA (TMPyP3 and TMPyP4) and partial destruction of the complex due to photolysis of the porphyrin (TMPyP3).
