Polymeric polymorphs and a monomer of pseudohalide incorporated Cu(II) complexes of 2,4-dichlorido-6-((2-(dimethylamino)ethylimino)methyl)phenol]: Crystal structures and spectroscopic behavior

l-Isoleucine-Schiff Base Copper(II) Coordination Polymers: Crystal Structure, Spectroscopic, Hirshfeld Surface, and DFT Analyses

A new copper(II) coordination polymer was synthesized from the l-isoleucine-Schiff base and characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, electronic paramagnetic resonance, and thermogravimetric analysis. XRD analysis confirmed the square planar coordination geometry of metallic centers and a zipper-like polymer structure. Vibrational, electronic, and paramagnetic spectroscopies and thermal analysis were consistent with the crystal structure. A Hirshfeld surface (HS) and density functional theory (DFT) analyses were employed to gain additional insight into interactions responsible for complex packing. The quantitative examination of two-dimensional (2D) fingerprint plots revealed, among other van der Waals forces, the dominating participation of H···H and H···Cl interactions in the molecular packing. The use of computational methods provided great help in detailing the supramolecular interactions occurring in the crystal, which were mainly van der Waals attractions. The electronic transition analysis helped corroborate the electronic transitions observed experimentally in the absorption spectrum. The frequency and vibrational mode analysis gave a deeper insight into the characterization of the CuL_CL complex.

Mononuclear and Tetranuclear Copper(II) Complexes Bearing Amino Acid Schiff Base Ligands: Structural Characterization and Catalytic Applications

Two new glycine-Schiff base copper(II) complexes were synthesized. Single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) allowed us to establish the structure of both complexes in the solid state. The glycine-Schiff base copper(II) complex derived from 2′-hydroxy-5′-nitroacetophenone showed a mononuclear hydrated structure, in which the Schiff base acted as a tridentate ligand, and the glycine-Schiff base copper(II) complex derived from 2′-hydroxy-5′-methylacetophenone showed a less common tetranuclear anhydrous metallocyclic structure, in which the Schiff base acted as a tetradentate ligand. In both compounds, copper(II) had a tetracoordinated square planar geometry. The results of vibrational, electronic, and paramagnetic spectroscopies, as well as thermal analysis, were consistent with the crystal structures. Both complexes were evaluated as catalysts in the olefin cyclopropanation by carbene transference, and both led to very high diastereoselectivity (greater than 98%).

Structure, magnetic properties and DFT calculations of azido-copper(ii) complexes with different azido-bonding, nuclearity and dimensionality

Cu(ii) compounds derived from diamine substituted alkyl or phenyl groups with azido acting as the bridging ligand were synthesized and were structurally and magnetically characterized.

C-coordinated O-carboxymethyl chitosan metal complexes: Synthesis, characterization and antifungal efficacy

A novel type of O-carboxymethyl chitosan Schiff bases (O-CSPX) was synthesized via a condensation reaction. After the coordination reaction of cupric ions, zinc ions and nickel ions, metal complexes (O-CSPX-M) were achieved. The theoretical structure of O-CSPX-M calculated by Gaussian 09 reveals that the copper ions and nickel ions underwent dsp² hybridization, the zinc ions underwent sp³ hybridization, and they all coordinated by the carbon atom in the p-π conjugate group. Then, the structures were confirmed by FT-IR, ¹H NMR, CP-MAS ¹³C NMR, elemental analysis, DSC and XRD. The antifungal properties of O-CSPX-M against Phytophthora capsici (P. capsici), Gibberella zeae (G. zeae), Fusarium oxysporum (F. oxysporum) and Botrytis cinerea (B. cinerea) were evaluated at concentrations ranging from 0.05mg/mL to 0.40mg/mL. The experiments indicated that the derivatives have significantly enhanced antifungal activity after metal ions complexation compared with the original chitosan. Moreover, it was shown that 0.20mg/mL of O-CSPX-Cu can 100% inhibit the growth of P. capsici and 0.20mg/mL of O-CSPX-Ni can 87.5% inhibit the growth of B. cinerea. In addition, the phytotoxicity assay and cell viability assay were also evaluated. The experimental results may provide a novel direction for the development of metal fungicides.

The experiments indicated that the derivatives have significantly enhanced antifungal activity after copper ion complexation compared with the original chitosan. Moreover, it was shown that 0.20mg/mL of O-CSP3-Cu and O-CSP4-Cu can 100% inhibit the growth of P. capsici. The experimental results reveal that the antifungal efficiency is related to the space steric hindrance on the benzene ring, which may provide a novel direction for the development of copper fungicides.
