Synthesis of complexes Fe, Co and Cu supported by “SNS” pincer ligands and their ability to catalytically form cyclic carbonates

Zinc and Copper Oxide Nanoparticles: Pioneering Antibacterial and Antibiofilm Strategies for Environmental Restoration against Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria

This study explores the challenge of antimicrobial resistance by investigating the utilization of zinc oxide (ZnO) and copper oxide (Cu2O) nanoparticles (NPs) to combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). The synthesized metal oxide NPs underwent thorough characterization through various analytical techniques, confirming their nanoparticulate nature. Electronic absorption and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses revealed successful reduction processes and crystalline properties, respectively. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) results indicated the stabilization of nanoparticles in solution. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations revealed well-defined spherical and flower-like morphologies for the zinc and copper oxide nanoparticles, with sizes approximately ranging from 50 nm to 25 nm Notably, the synthesized nanoparticles exhibited heightened efficacy in impeding biofilm formation, with zinc oxide NPs displaying superior antibacterial activity compared to copper. These findings suggest the promising potential of these nanoparticles in controlling antibiotic-resistant organisms, even following WWTP treatment processes. This research contributes to the ongoing advancements in nanotechnology aimed at combating antibiotic resistance, offering new prospects for the development of effective wastewater treatment strategies.

PTK6: An emerging biomarker for prognosis and immunotherapeutic response in clear cell renal carcinoma (KIRC)

Kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC), one of the most prevalent form of kidney carcinoma, is highly aggressive cancer known for significant immune infiltration and high mortality rates. The absence of sensitivity to traditional therapy has spurred the search for new treatments. Protein Tyrosine Kinase 6 (PTK6) is implicated in promoting cancer growth, spread, and metastasis. Our review of The Cancer Genome Atlas database revealed PTK6 overexpression in KIRC, though its specific role in this cancer type was unclear. We investigated PTK6's cancer-promoting roles in KIRC using the database and confirmed our findings with patient-derived tissues. Our analysis showed that elevated PTK6 expression is linked to worse outcomes and higher levels of immune infiltration. It also correlates positively with neo-antigens (NEO) and DNA ploidy changes in KIRC. This research delves into PTK6's role in KIRC development, suggesting PTK6 as a possible biomarker for prognosis and treatment in KIRC.

Cationic N,S-chelate half-sandwich iridium complexes: synthesis, characterization, anticancer and antiplasmodial activity

A series of pyrazole-based ligands and their corresponding cationic N,S-chelate half-sandwich iridium complexes were successfully synthesized. All iridium complexes exhibited good anticancer activity against the MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer cells. The cytotoxic activity of unsubstituted iridium complex 1 is greater than that of cisplatin against MCF-7 cells. In addition, the cationic half-sandwich iridium complexes are also efficient in antiplasmodial study and complex 1 displayed the best activity as its IC50 was observed to be approximately 0.11 μM against the CQS-NF54 strain. These iridium complexes generally exhibited enhanced activity against the CQS-NF54 strain in comparison with that against the CQR-K1 strain. An "IC50 speed assay" investigation against the CQS-NF54 strain indicated complexes 1-3 to be fast-acting complexes that reach their lowest IC50 values within 16 hours. All complexes were fully characterized by IR spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis, and the structure of the iridium complex was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

Rational synthesis, biological screening of azo derivatives of chloro-phenylcarbonyl diazenyl hydroxy dipyrimidines/thioxotetrahydropyrimidines and their metal complexes

Herein, a new series of azo ligands HL-1 (5-(2-chloro-6-(phenylcarbonyl)phenyl)diazenyl)-6-hydroxydihydropyrimidines-2,4dione), HL-2 (5-(2-chloro-6-(phenylcarbonyl)phenyl)diazenyl)-6-hydroxy-2-thioxottetrahydropyrimidin-4one), HL-3 (5-(2,4-dichloro-6-(phenylcarbonyl)phenyl) diazenyl)-6-hydroxydihydropyrimidines-2,4dione), HL-4 (5-(2,4-dichloro-6-(phenylcarbonyl) phenyl)diazenyl)-6-hydroxy-2-thioxotetrahydropyrimidin-4one) and their metal complexes with Cu(II) & Ni(II) were synthesized successfully having excellent yield, in reproducible conditions and for structure elucidation different advance spectroscopic techniques (FTIR, ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR and Mass Spectrometry) were applied. In FTIR analysis, the absence of peak at 3450-3550 cm ^-1 due to -NH₂ and presence of a new peak of N=N at 1390-1520 cm^-1 confirmed synthesis of the ligands. The ¹H NMR spectra of azo ligands showed singlet peak at 11.5-13.5 ppm (Ar-OH) for hydroxyl group and -NH₂ signals disappearance of anilines at 4-5 ppm also gives strong indication for the synthesis of azo compounds. On complexation two most important peaks (M-O, M-N) appeared in all the metal chelates in the range of 400-600 cm^-1 which were not present in any of the ligands, confirmed the formation of complexes. Molecular ion peaks in mass spectra at 273, 388, 407 and 423 m/z value for ligands as well as for complexes at 803, 835, 871 and 904 m/z also give strong indication that proposed ligands and their metal complexes are produced successfully. Biological screening of the synthesized compounds were also carried out against different bacterial strains (E.coli, S.typhi, and B.subtilis), antifungal (C.albicans, A.niger, and C.glabrata) strains and antioxidant activity. From results it was observed that HL-4 and Cu complexes exhibited maximum inhibition against all bacterial and fungal strains as compared to other ligands and standard drug.

Molecular docking-assisted investigation of Pd(II) complexes carrying "SNS" pincer-type pyridine-thioether ligand as potential drug candidates against COVID-19

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has posed a threat to public health throughout the world since the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was discovered in late 2019. Since the beginning of the pandemic, scientists have done a tremendous amount of work in this area. However, among these studies, the investigation of the effect of newly synthesized compounds against coronavirus is rather weak. Examining the newly synthesized compounds with a computer-assisted molecular docking study provides quite an advantage in terms of the estimation and analysis of the biochemical activity and binding affinity of existing synthesized compounds against a biological target in a labor, time, and cost-saving way. In this study, the SNS pincer type 2,6-bis[[(4-methylphenyl)thio]methyl]pyridine ligand(L) (1) and its novel Pd(II) complexes ([Pd(κ²-L)(OAc)₂]·3H₂O (2) and [Pd(κ²-L)Cl₂]·3H₂O (3)) were synthesized and characterized by using FT-IR, UV-Vis, NMR, mass and elemental analysis techniques. The synthesized Pd complexes exhibited a square planar structure. The compounds were found to have non-electrolytic behavior. In the meantime, in silico investigations have defined and justified interaction processes between these molecules and Pd(II) at the atomic level. Furthermore, using molecular docking against target proteins of SARS-CoV-2, the efficiency of the SNS pincer type ligand and its Pd (II) complexes produced was studied and discussed for the first time. The experimental data has been supported and illuminated using computational visual methods and molecular docking, and the findings produced indicate compatibility. The binding energy values of the relevant compounds on the four protein model structures of SARS-CoV-2 (Main Protease, Papain-like protease, RdRp without RNA, and RdRp with RNA) are represented. Compound 2 ([Pd(κ²-L)(OAc)₂]·3H₂O) is the structure that exhibits the highest biochemical activity. According to all of the docking studies, Papain-like protease is the SARS-CoV-2 protein with which the three compounds exhibit mutual interaction. The compound 2 structure, in particular, is the most effective in terms of structural and interaction with the targets, as well as binding orientations.

Recent Advances in the Chemical Fixation of Carbon Dioxide: A Green Route to Carbonylated Heterocycle Synthesis

Carbon dioxide produced by human activities is one of the main contributions responsible for the greenhouse effect, which is modifying the Earth’s climate. Therefore, post-combustion CO2 capture and its conversion into high value-added chemicals are integral parts of today’s green industry. On the other hand, carbon dioxide is a ubiquitous, cheap, abundant, non-toxic, non-flammable and renewable C1 source. Among CO2 usages, this review aims to summarize and discuss the advances in the reaction of CO2, in the synthesis of cyclic carbonates, carbamates, and ureas appeared in the literature since 2017.
