Abstract
A new and rare Salamo-Co(II) complex probe L-Co2+ was designed and synthesised. The structure of the [Co3(L)2(μ-OAc)2(MeOH)2]⋅2H2O complex was obtained by X-ray diffraction experiments. Three Co(II) atoms are in a line in the complex, and all Co(II) atoms form a 6-coordinated octahedral configuration. The probe L-Co2+ selectively recognises tyrosine in DMF/H2O (8:2, v/v). Upon addition of tyrosine, the fluorescence intensity of L-Co2+ was enhanced in a short time. The probe showed high selectivity and sensitivity for tyrosine, detection limit is 4.27 × 10-8 M. The recognition mechanism of probe L-Co2+ for Tyr was inferred by FT-IR spectra, UV spectroscopy, ESI mass spectra and DFT calculations. Finally, due to the simplicity and specificity of the identification process, the probe was also subjected to a test paper experiment and a milk assay.

Abstract
A novel extra-long carbon-chain salamo-like fluorescent chemical probe DNS (named as 2,2'-[1,10-(decanedioxy)bis(nitromethyldyne)]dinaphthol) containing ten methylene groups was synthesized based on the 2-hydroxy-1-naphthylaldehyde unit. Research has shown that the fluorescent probe DNS can achieve efficient and selective recognition of CO32- anions, with a detection limit LOD=1.59 × 10-8 M. The binding constant Ka = 3.7 × 104 M-1 and quantification limit is as low as LOQ=4.31 × 10-8 M, respectively. The possible identification mechanism of the fluorescent chemosensor DNS was analyzed and studied through fluorescence titration and nuclear magnetic titration. The results showed that the fluorescence chemical sensor DNS is deprotonated by CO32- anions, enhancing its fluorescence and producing a ICT effect.

Abstract
The symmetrically double-armed salamo type fluorescent sensor BMS, incorporating benzimidazole units, was designed and synthesized. Showcasing remarkable specificity and responsiveness to MnO4- within a DMSO:H2O (V/V = 9:1, pH = 7.2) Tris-HCl buffer medium, it enabled dual-channel detection of MnO4- through fluorescent and colorimetric changes. Critical experimental parameters, including detection and quantification thresholds (LOD and LOQ) along with binding affinity constants (Ka), were calculated using the Origin software. A rational interaction mechanism between BMS and MnO4- was deduced, based on fluorescence titration, Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry (ESI-MS), Ultraviolet-Visible Spectroscopy (UV-Vis), Infrared Spectroscopy (IR), Stern-Volmer plots, and Density Functional Theory (DFT) computations. Additionally, the sensor BMS was applied to monitor MnO4- in real water samples. Advancing its practical utility, BMS was fabricated into test strips for the selective detecting of MnO4-.

Abstract
Excessive Cu2+ intake can cause neurological disorders (e.g. Wilson's disease) and adversely affect the gastrointestinal, liver, and kidney organs. The presence of Cu2+ is strongly linked to the emergence and progression of Wilson's disease (WD), and accurately measuring the amount of copper is a crucial step in diagnosing WD at an early stage in a clinical setting. In this work, CQDs were fabricated through a facile technique as a novel fluorescence-based sensing platform for detecting Cu(II) in aqueous solutions, and in the serum samples of healthy and affected individuals by WD. The CQDs interact with Cu(II) ions to produce Turn-on and Turn-off states at nano-molar and micro-molar levels, respectively, with LODs of 0.001 µM and 1 µM. In fact, the Cu2+ ions can act like a bridge between two CQDs by which the charge and electron transfer between the CQDs may increase, possibly can have significant effects on the spectroscopic features of the CQDs. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported research that can detect Cu(II) at low levels using two different complexation states, with promising results in testing serum. The potential of the sensor to detect Cu(II) was tested on serum samples from healthy and affected individuals by WD, and compared to results obtained by ICP-OES. Astonishingly, the results showed an excellent correlation between the measured Cu(II) levels using the proposed technique and ICP-OES, indicating the high potential of the fluorimetric CQD-based probe for Cu(II) detection. The accuracy, sensitivity, selectivity, high precision, accuracy, and applicability of the probe toward Cu(II) ions make it a potential diagnostic tool for Wilson's disease in a clinical setting.

Abstract
A bis(salamo)-like chemical sensor H3L ((1E,3E)-2-hydroxy-5-methylisophthalaldehyde O,O -di(3-((((E)-(2-hydroxynaphthalen-1-yl)methylene)amino)oxy)propyl) dioxime) was constructed. H3L is capable of recognizing B4O72- in H2O/DMF (1:9, v/v) solution by both fluorescent and colorimetric channels, bright green fluorescence was turned on when B4O72- was added to H3L and changed from colorless to yellow in natural light. The detection limit was 3.21 × 10-8 M. The identification has good anti-interfering ability, quickly responsive time (5 S) and broad pH detecting range (pH = 5-12). The mechanism of action was determined by 1H NMR titration, infrared spectrometry, HRMS spectra and further elucidated by theory calculations. The fluorescence imaging of bean sprouts and spiked recovery assays of actual water samples demonstrated the practical use of sensor H3L for the detection of B4O72-, which is expected to have applications for the detection of B4O72- in plants and the environment.

Abstract
A novel Schiff-base fluorescent probe, 4-(N-(2- hydroxyl-1-naphthalymethylimino)-ethylamino) -7-nitro-1,2,3-benzoxadiazole (HENB) was synthesized and utilized for spectral sensing of Fe3+ ions at neutral pH. The binding of Fe3+ to HENB in C2H5OH-HEPES buffer (1:1 v/ v, 25 mM, pH 7.2) resulted in a pronounced emission enhancement at 530 nm, which is possibly due to the inhibition of photo-induced electron transfer (PET) process as well as the chelation enhanced fluorescence (CHEF) effect. HENB shows good selectivity and sensitivity toward Fe3+ with the detection limit as low as 4.51 nM. Test strips made of HENB was used for rapid "naked-eye" detection of Fe3+ ions in aqueous medium. Moreover, HENB was successfully applied in fluorescence imaging of exogenous and endogenous Fe3+ in live Hela cells as well as zebrafish. Importantly, HENB is capable of effectively monitoring the variations of Fe3+ in living cells during ferroptosis process.

Abstract
A novel bis(salamo)-type sensor FT for fluorescence-colorimetric recognition of Fe3+/Cu2+ has been created, which revealed significant fluorescent performance and colorimetric sensing ability for Cu2+ and Fe3+ ions, superior to other related competitive metal ions. Interestingly, the binding of the FT probe with Cu2+ ions manifested an instant color change from colorless to red in sunlight, which is detectable by the naked-eye, and a fluorescence turn-off response under UV light for Fe3+ and Cu2+. The results demonstrated that the probe exhibits better sensitivity, greater affinity and lower limit of detection leading to quick response time in an aquo-organic medium. The excited state property of the FT probe and in the presence of Cu2+/Fe3+ was evaluated on the basis of DFT & TD-DFT results. Furthermore, test strips have been provided for convenient monitoring of Cu2+ and Fe3+ ions by naked eye and fluorescence method.

Abstract
An innovative salamo-like fluorescent chemical sensor H2L, has been prepared that can be utilized to selectively detect Cu2+ and B4O72- ions. Cu2+ ions can bind to oxime state nitrogen and phenol state oxygen atoms in the chemosensor H2L, triggering the LMCT effect leading to fluorescence enhancement. The crystal structure of the copper(II) complex, named as [Cu(L)], has been achieved via X-ray crystallography, and the sensing mechanism has been confirmed by further theoretical calculations with DFT. Besides, the sensor H2L recognizes B4O72- ions causing an ICT effect resulting in bright blue fluorescence. Moreover, the sensor has relatively high selectivity and sensitivity for Cu2+ and B4O72- ions, and the detection limits are 1.02 × 10-7 and 2.06 × 10-7 M, respectively. In addition, the good biocompatibility and excellent water solubility of the sensor H2L make it very advantageous in practical applications, using H2L powder for fingerprint visualization, using H2L to identify the phenomenon of B4O72- ions emitting bright blue fluorescence, making it an ink that can print encrypted messages on A4 paper, in addition to this, based on H2L, the real water sample was tested for Cu2+ ion recognition, and finally the test strip experiment was carried out.

Abstract
A newly designed and synthesized Salamo-Salen-Salamo-Zn(II) complex sensor (sensor ZT) was extensively explored for anion sensing studies. The selectivity and sensitivity of the sensor ZT towards H2PO4- ions were based on ICT and CHEF effects, and via displacement pathways in DMSO/H2O (9:1, v/v) medium in the presence of other anions like, PO43-, HPO42- and P2O74- in a short time, separately. The prepared ZT sensor has excellent association constant and low detection lines. The sensing mechanism and binding mode of the sensor were studied by UV-Vis spectroscopy, HR-MS, 1H NMR titration and theory calculations (DFT & TD-DFT) for analytes. The time response and stability of the sensor are also given. Meanwhile, the sensor ZT can be widely used as a simple and effective solid-state optical sensor to detect H2PO4- by intuitive fluorescence changes. In addition, besides the environment can be used as a powerful instrument for detecting H2PO4-, based on the good biocompatibility and tissue permeability of ZT, effectively monitoring H2PO4- in cellular distribution by confocal microscopy using Zebrafish and bean sprout.

Abstract
Optical chemosensors are a practical tool for the detection and quantification of important analytes in biological and environmental fields, such as Cu2+ and Fe3+. To the best of our knowledge, a BODIPY derivative capable of detecting Cu2+ and Fe3+ simultaneously through a colorimetric response has not yet been described in the literature. In this work, a meso-triphenylamine-BODIPY derivative is reported for the highly selective detection of Cu2+ and Fe3+. In the preliminary chemosensing study, this compound showed a significant color change from yellow to blue-green in the presence of Cu2+ and Fe3+. With only one equivalent of cation, a change in the absorption band of the compound and the appearance of a new band around 700 nm were observed. Furthermore, only 10 equivalents of Cu2+/Fe3+ were needed to reach the absorption plateau in the UV-visible titrations. Compound 1 showed excellent sensitivity toward Cu2+ and Fe3+ detection, with LODs of 0.63 µM and 1.06 µM, respectively. The binding constant calculation indicated a strong complexation between compound 1 and Cu2+/Fe3+ ions. The 1H and 19F NMR titrations showed that an increasing concentration of cations induced a broadening and shifting of the aromatic region peaks, as well as the disappearance of the original fluorine peaks of the BODIPY core, which suggests that the ligand-metal (1:2) interaction may occur through the triphenylamino group and the BODIPY core.

Four multinuclear transition metal(II) complexes, novel butterfly-shaped homotetranuclear [Ni4(L)(μ1-OAc)2(μ1,3-OAc)2(H2O)0.5(CH3CH2OH)3.5]·4CH3CH2OH (1), helical homotrinuclear [Zn3(L)(μ1-OAc)2]·2CH3CH2OH (2), double-helical homotrinuclear [Cu2(H2L)2]·2CH3CN (3), and mononuclear [Ni(H2L)]·1.5CH3COCH3 (4), have been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The effects of different anions [OAc- and (O2C5H7)2-] on the complexation behavior of H4L with transition metal(II) ions were studied by UV-vis spectrophotometry. The fluorescent properties of the four complexes were studied with zebrafish, which are expected to be a potential light-emitting material. Ultimately, interaction region indicator (IRI) valuations, Hirshfeld surface analyses, density functional theory (DFT & TD-DFT), electrostatic potential analyses (ESP), and simulations were carried out to further demonstrate the weak interactions and electronic properties of the free ligand and its four complexes.

Abstract
Naphthol hydrazone derivatives are recognized as efficient chelating agents for both qualitative and quantitative detection of metal ions. Here we design a naphthol hydrazine-based chemosensor with covalently linking a strong electron-withdrawing benzothiadiazole group to modulate the molecular electronic structure, nominated as NtHzBtd. The fluorescent probe performs excellent selectivity and sensitivity towards Fe3+ with 1:1 binding stoichiometry, while exhibiting a quick response at 55 s with a relatively low limit of detection of 0.036 µM. A series of spectroscopic measurements in tandem with theoretical calculations suggest that the probe undergoes both intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) and chelation enhanced quenching (CHEQ) processes. Successful color rendering of paper strips and bioimaging in PC3 cells demonstrate the promising applicability of NtHzBtd for portable Fe3+ detection in real samples and biosystems.
