Abstract
BACKGROUND This study was conducted to assess the effects of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) on dental healthcare workers (DHCWs) during the pandemic. Due to frequent exposure to aerosol-generating procedures, DHCWs are at an increased risk of a SARS-CoV-2 infection, increasing their mortality risk. Therefore, this retrospective study aimed to ascertain the mortality of DHCWs attributable to SARS-CoV-2 infection from databases in the public domain during the pandemic. METHODS The data were obtained from three public-domain online databases: Medscape, FNOMCeO, and X. All collected data from March 2020 to May 2024 were merged into a tabulated format. An analysis was conducted on the data collectively and through a subgroup analysis based on the country, detailed profession, age, gender, and date of death. RESULTS During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, 100 DHCWs were deceased. The DHCWs in the study were employed in 14 countries, with the United States (40%) and Italy (34%) listing the highest percentages of deaths of these workers. Dentists constituted 79% of the total DHCWs. The gender distribution among the deceased was 85 (85%) men and 15 (15%) women. The age of 57 deceased DHCWs was known, resulting in a mean age of 58 years (ranging from 28 to 88). The DHCWs at ages 60 to 70 years (49%) exhibited the highest mortality rate from SARS-CoV-2. The date of death was known for 73 DHCWs, who were deceased between March 2020 and February 2023. CONCLUSION AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE During the global pandemic, DHCWs worked in the context of general practice. The DHCWs adhered to infection prevention protocols according to standard guidelines and incorporated new adjunctive measures, especially for the pandemic, including adopting coronavirus disease 2019 guidelines for oral healthcare. These measures provided satisfactory protection, with less than 0.006% mortality of the estimated DHCWs worldwide.

Abstract
The use of herbal mouthrinse is gaining momentum in recent years. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate the effect of 2 herbal mouthrinse (curcumin, cinnamon) in comparison with2 conventional mouthrinse (povidone iodine, chlorhexidine) when used as coolant in dental ultrasonic scalers. Hence, 200 participants were included in this study. Analysis of gingival index, periodontal index at baseline and one month follow up was completed. The inhibitory effects of both conventional and herbal mouth rinse in gingival health are similar. However, cinnamon and curcumin owing to its minimal adverse effects and low cost is useful as an alternative to chlorhexidine for reducing bacterial load in dental aerosols produced due to ultrasonic scalers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Increased psychological pressure on oral healthcare professionals (OHP) due to COVID-19 has been shown, yet little is known about the long-term psychological impacts. We aimed to study the psychological impact of COVID-19 and associated factors including perceived risk and preparedness and vaccination status among OHP in the first year after the lockdown period in Norway. METHODS A structured questionnaire sent electronically to dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants inquired experiences and perceptions during the second year following the outbreak in Norway. The questionnaire comprised a COVID-19 fear scale and questions about risk perception, preparedness and vaccination status. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) were used to assess psychological impact, perception of risk and preparedness according to vaccination status of the respondents. RESULTS The majority of the 708 respondents were female (92.8%), had ten or more years of work experience (67.1%), and worked in public dental clinics (95.9%). Fears and concerns related to COVID-19 were common, 72.6% feared getting infected and 85.4% feared infecting others. Of the 642 respondents who agreed that their workplaces handled the situation well, 55.6% were fully vaccinated. Three factors were retrieved from EFA: Insecurity, Instability and Infection. SEM showed that females were more concerned with Infection, and respondents with long clinical experience were less likely to express fear about Instability. Fully vaccinated individuals felt more insecure about becoming infected, and those agreeing that their workplaces handled the current situation well were concerned with Insecurity. CONCLUSIONS Despite widespread perception of adequate preparedness and high vaccine coverage, a considerable psychological impact and high levels of fear of COVID-19 were observed among the majority of OHP. Fully vaccinated individuals had a larger psychological burden than not fully vaccinated and those with unknown vaccination status. These findings can inform means and interventions to reduce negative impacts of fear in populations with a high psychological burden.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Using a rotary instrument or ultrasonic instrument for tooth preparation is a basic operation in the dental clinic that can produce a significant number of droplets and aerosols. The dental droplet and aerosol can lead to the transfer of harmful germs. The goal of this study was to analyze the properties of microbiological aerosol created by droplets and aerosol generated by three common tooth-preparation instruments. METHODS Streptococcus mutans UA159 was used as the biological tracer to visualize the droplets and aerosols. The passive sampling method was used to map the three-dimensional spatial distribution and the six-stage Andersen microbial sampler (AMS) was used as the active sampling method to catch aerosol particles at a specific time. RESULTS The aerosol concentration is related to instruments, three-dimensional spatial distribution, and dissipation time. Most aerosols were generated by air turbines. More microorganisms are concentrated at the 1.5 m plane. The majority of the post dental procedure contamination was detected within the 0-10-min period and it decreased rapidly within 30 min. CONCLUSION This study is conducive to the proposal and improvement of relevant infection control measures in dental procedures and provides a basis for the assessment of measures, reducing the risk of nosocomial infection.

Abstract
Endodontic treatment can be challenging for a number of reasons, including the microscopic nature of the clinical environment, reliance on tactile sensation and lack of direct visualization of the work being performed. Commonly, endodontic patients present with pain and distress, which can exacerbate an already difficult clinical situation. Complications may might arise prior to, or during treatment, despite practising with the utmost care and skill. Preventing and managing these complications can take considerable time and energy, and oftentimes assistance from or referral to more experienced colleagues is required. The aim of this review is to discuss medico-legal considerations in endodontics, with clinical correlations and a focus on the Australian legal landscape. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Periodontitis, as a chronic, multifactorial inflammatory disease, has complex relationships with other diseases and ultimately with well-being. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the association between self-report periodontitis, as measured with the recently developed and validated modified Periodontal Screening Score (mPESS), and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQol) in a large population-based sample derived from the French NutriNet-Santé e-cohort. METHODS The sample was composed of 32,714 adults (75.5% women) with a mean age of 48.8 ± 13.9 years. Periodontitis was assessed based on age, smoking, and oral health status data obtained in 2011-2012, which allowed calculating the mPESS. An mPESS ≥ 5 was used to identify individuals at risk of severe periodontitis (main exposure). OHRQoL was measured with the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) (main outcome) and the total score was dichotomized for analysis. Multivariable logistic regression analyses, considering physical health status, dietary and lifestyle confounding variables, were performed. RESULTS Overall, 6407 participants (19.6%) were at a high risk of severe periodontitis. A total of 7383 participants (22.6%) presented a relatively poor OHRQoL (OHIP-14 > 8, highest quartile). In the multivariable model, each of the following variables was independently and significantly associated with lower OHRQoL: older age (50-64 years), female sex, obesity, snacking between meals, frequent consumption of soft drinks and sweets/chocolate, risk of severe periodontitis, and having < 20 natural teeth were significantly. An mPESS ≥ 5 showed the highest odds for relatively poor OHRQoL (OR = 3.45; 95% CI 3.21-3.72). CONCLUSION The results support the association between periodontitis and OHRQoL in non-clinical samples. The use of mPESS could be tested in future prevention programs aiming at improving OHRQoL.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this research was to study the facilitators and barriers to implementation of sustainable oral health care in Dutch dental practices using a qualitative research design. METHODS A conceptual framework was developed and based on 2 theories for implementation in dental practices. The framework covered 4 levels: structural, dental practice, oral health care practitioner, and method and product level. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect guided and in-depth data. Fourteen key stakeholders were interviewed: dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, managers and owners of dental practices, and suppliers of dental goods. Data were analysed using both a thematic analysis approach and open coding. RESULTS Participants were aware of the compromised planetary health and, in part, of their contribution to it. However, turning this awareness into action proved to be challenging. Barriers that were identified included limited knowledge and awareness of the largest sources of planetary burden in oral health care. Also, information and availability of sustainable products and methods cannot yet meet the requirements of current performance standards, costs, and infection control guidelines. Facilitators that were observed included a growing awareness to contribute to planetary health and to implement sustainability outside oral health care, especially in women and younger people. Overviews and guides of existing sustainable methods are available, but additional methods and products should be developed as well. CONCLUSIONS Many participants considered infection control guidelines as the most prominent barrier to sustainable oral health care. Women felt more involved with planetary health compared to men, which is in line with the concept of ecofeminism. It is essential for stakeholders to collaborate to reach the next levels of implementation. Action is required on all levels to secure both oral and planetary health. Now is the time to act.
