Abstract
BACKGROUND The incidence of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) in China is high, yet the treatment rate remains low. Research on the current state of the public's awareness of and willingness to provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in Hubei Province is scarcer. OBJECTIVES The objective of this research was to explore the general public's knowledge, confidence, and willingness to perform CPR in Hubei Province, China. METHODS In this descriptive study we used convenience sampling to select 1, 849 permanent residents of Hubei Province as survey respondents. A self-designed questionnaire included four sections: demographic information, knowledge about CPR, confidence in skill implementation, willingness to implement it, factors that may influence CPR use. RESULTS Four hundred ten individuals (22 %) had a knowledge score of moderate or higher. The following factors were statistically significant in CPR knowledge scores: gender, age, education, place of residence (last three years), presence of a cohabitant over age sixty years, occupation related to medicine, and participation in CPR training (p < 0.05). Only 81 (9.8 %) were confident in performing CPR. There were 708 (77.2 %) members of the public who were willing to perform CPR on strangers. Gender, age, education, place of residence (last three years), and having a medically-related occupation were associated with willingness to perform CPR (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Public knowledge of CPR in Hubei needs improvement, with a strong willingness but inadequate background knowledge for rescue. Government should broaden CPR training paths to enhance survival rates of OHCA patients.

Abstract
Education in basic life support is widely proposed to increase survival in out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest. The authors aimed to assess knowledge, skills, and attitudes, including willingness to help, regarding myocardial infarction and sudden cardiac arrest among university students of all fields of knowledge. METHODS An Ethical Research Committee approved this cross-sectional study. An electronic survey "KIDS SAVE LIVES BRAZIL" was sent to 58,862 students of 82 disciplines in three universities, aged ≥ 18 years. The survey covered three categories: knowledge, skills, and attitude. Each category was graded between 0 and 10 points (the highest). RESULTS Among students, 4,803 undergraduates (8.2 %) answered the survey, and were divided into three groups of disciplines: medicine (219, ∼21.7 years, 38 % male), other-healthcare (n = 1,058; ∼22.9 years; 36 % male), and non-health-care (n = 3,526; ∼22.9 years; 35 % male). All three groups showed significant differences between them (p < 0.001). The non-health-care compared with medicine and other healthcare groups showed, respectively, the lowest median scores (25 %‒75 %) in knowledge (4.0 [0.0‒9.3], 4.0 [4.0‒8.0], and 4.0 [4.0‒4.7]), skills (2.4 [1.2‒3.3], 6.4 [4.0‒8.3], 4.0 [2.4‒6.2]), and attitude (5.9 [5.9‒6.8], 7.3 [5.9‒7.3], and 7.3 [5.9‒7.3]). CONCLUSION University students who answered the e-survey have the willingness to help victims suffering from myocardial infarction or sustaining sudden cardiac arrest. However, non healthcare students markedly lack the knowledge and skills to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillation. These findings reveal a stark difference in basic life support competencies between students in related healthcare fields and those in non-health fields, emphasizing the need for universal basic life support training.

Abstract
This scoping review collates evidence for sex biases in the receipt of bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BCPR) among patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients globally. The MEDLINE, PsycINFO, CENTRAL, and Embase databases were screened for relevant literature, dated from inception to March 9, 2022. Studies evaluating the association between BCPR and sex/gender in patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, except for pediatric populations and cardiac arrest cases with traumatic cause, were included. The review included 80 articles on BCPR in men and women globally; 58 of these studies evaluated sex differences in BCPR outcomes. Fifty-nine percent of the relevant studies (34/58) indicated that women are less likely recipients of BCPR, 36% (21/58) observed no significant sex differences, and 5% (3/58) reported that women are more likely to receive BCPR. In other studies, women were found to be less likely to receive BCPR in public but equally or more likely to receive BCPR in residential settings. The general reluctance to perform BCPR on women in the Western countries was attributed to perceived frailty of women, chest exposure, pregnancy, gender stereotypes, oversexualization of women's bodies, and belief that women are unlikely to experience a cardiac arrest. Most studies worldwide indicated that women were less likely to receive BCPR than men. Further research from non-Western countries is needed to understand the impact of cultural and socioeconomic settings on such biases and design customized interventions accordingly.

Abstract
Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is a global public health problem. Lay bystanders witness almost half of OHCA, so early recognition is critical to allow immediate initiation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by the bystander. The present investigation aims to analyze the most recent scientific evidence of the effect of bystander CPR on survival after an OHCA. A systematic literature review was carried out at the "Web of Science," "Scopus," and "PubMed" databases, including publications from the last 20 years. After inclusion/exclusion criteria, 37 articles were identified. Results indicate that patients who receive CPR are more likely to survive than those who don't, and CPR is associated with a good quality of life post-OHCA. Emphasis should be placed on practicing chest compressions only when the bystander has not mastered the artificial ventilation technique. Finding an AED is the first step to using it in an OHCA situation. Correct use of an AED by laypeople is associated with nearly double the survival rate after an OHCA when compared to standard CPR. It is important to promote CPR and AED training to non-professionals, such as community residents and youth, as training is associated with higher success rates of effective CPR-AED. A mobile phone positioning system to recruit trained laypeople or text message alerts to send citizen volunteers as well as assistance through a mobile app appear to have significant advantages in practicing effective CPR. The benefits of bystander CPR outweigh the risk of injury to victims, highlighting the need to disseminate training to laypeople.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Despite receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training, over 50% of bystanders were unable to actually perform CPR. Understanding public willingness and attitudes toward bystander CPR is crucial in explaining whether people initiate CPR. This study aimed to develop a theoretical understanding of factors that influence the public's willingness and attitudes to perform CPR. DESIGN This was a qualitative study using the grounded theory method. METHODS The data were collected from semi-structured interviews with 28 participants between August 2022 and November 2022. Purposive sampling and theoretical sampling were used to recruit participants. Interviews were recorded and transcribed. Data were analyzed using open, axial, and selective coding. RESULTS Nine categories and 24 subcategories were summarized from four aspects: willingness, attitudes, implementation, and training. Willingness included self-willingness, self-perception, and societal factors; attitudes covered personality traits, reactions to patients and environment; implementation comprised knowledge and skills, situational coping, and risk perception; training included CPR training accessibility and barriers to CPR training. A theoretical framework of public CPR willingness, attitudes, and their influencing factors was developed. CONCLUSION The public's CPR willingness, attitudes, training, and implementation were interrelated and influential. The findings may have significant implications for the development of legislation and policy related to CPR popularization and training.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training is important for students of health professions to learn and be prepared to perform. Colleges have a responsibility to provide adequate training for their students to ensure that they are ready and confident to deal with life-threatening situations. However, studies have shown that some graduates and practitioners lack sufficient knowledge in performing CPR. The aim of this study is to assess the knowledge of health professions students in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) who have started clinical practice. Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted in February 2022 and included health professions students in all academic years, including interns and residents, across colleges of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, Riyadh, KSA. The study questionnaire consisted of three sections: attitudes, knowledge, and demographics. The attitudes section included 11 questions, while the knowledge section included 10. The demographic section included university level, Grade Point Average (GPA), CPR training status, willingness to learn CPR, witnessing CPR, and family history of cardiac disease. Statistical analysis was conducted using chi-squared tests, t-tests, two-sample proportion tests, ANOVA, and bivariate correlation analyses. RESULTS The mean age of the participants was 21.2 (±1.9) years. Participants had a mean knowledge score of 5.1 (±1.8) out of 10 potential points. Also, the participants had a total attitude score of 42.7 (±6.2) out of 55 potential points. CONCLUSION The study highlights the importance of CPR training for healthcare providers and the need for ongoing training to maintain knowledge and skills. The results suggest that attitudes towards providing CPR may be influenced by cultural beliefs and fear of liability or disease transmission. Higher participant GPA and positive attitudes towards chest compressions and CPR training were found to be associated with increased knowledge.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this study is to explore the perception of teachers, parents and students' regarding implementation of a school-based lifesaving skills program and help predict potential barriers and solutions. METHODS This qualitative exploratory study was conducted in Karachi, Pakistan, from December 2020- to October 2021. We included students, teachers, and parents of secondary (grades VIII, IX, and X) and higher secondary level students (grades XI and XII) in Karachi, Pakistan's public and private schools and colleges. We selected one public, two semi-private, and two private schools. We recruited students, teachers, and parents through convenience sampling. We conducted fifteen focus group discussions (FGDs) with the students, six FGDs with the teachers, and eighteen in-depth interviews (IDIs) with parents. We transcribed the data from audio recordings and translated it into the English language. Finally, we manually analyzed the data using thematic analyses. RESULTS This study found that bystanders' main barriers to performing lifesaving skills are lack of knowledge, fear of legal involvement, fear of hurting the patient by incorrect technique, lack of empathy among community stakeholders, and gender bias. However, the participants had a positive and supportive attitude toward implementing lifesaving skills training in schools. They suggested starting student training in the early teenage years, preferred medical staff as trainers, and suggested frequent small sessions in English/Urdu both or Urdu language and training via theory and practical hands-on drills. Furthermore, the training was proposed to be integrated into the school curriculum to make it sustainable. Finally, the government needs to support the program and make the legal environment more conducive for bystanders. CONCLUSION This study identified the significant barriers to performing lifesaving skills in an emergency in a low- and middle-income country (LMIC). The participants supported implementing a national lifesaving skills program in schools and colleges. However, the participants expressed that support is needed by the government for sustainability, integrating lifesaving skills into the school curriculum, providing legal support to the bystanders, and creating awareness among the general public.

Abstract
Objective Survival from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) often depends on the effective and immediate use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Given that there have been few studies about AED use in China, the purpose of this study is to investigate the knowledge and attitudes regarding AED use among the Chinese public, then provide an effective suggestion for AED education strategies and legislation. Method The online survey was conducted among Chinese participants of the First Aid eLearning courses in June 2020. Result A total of 2565 (95.00%) surveys were completed, only 23.46% of respondents with non-medical related respondents reported having attended previous AED training courses. Regarding the basic knowledge of AEDs, few respondents (12.28%, n = 315) could answer all four questions correctly. 95.67% (n = 2454) were willing to learn AED use. Even if without the precondition of being skilled in AEDs, the female was more likely to rescue OHCA patients than the male (p = 0.003). Almost all respondents (96.65%) showed a strong willingness to rescue OHCA patients with training in using AEDs. The top four barriers to rescuing OHCA patients were lack of practical performing ability (60.47%), fear of hurting patients (59.30%), inadequate knowledge of resuscitation techniques (44.19%), and worry about taking legal responsibility (26.74%). Conclusion Our study reflects a deficiency of AED knowledge among the general public in China. However, positive attitudes towards rescuing OHCA patients and learning AED use were observed, which indicates that measures need to be taken to disseminate knowledge and use of AEDs. Abstract
OBJECTIVE With the advancement of technology, disaster preparedness related to hurricane hazards can be taught through an app. This study aimed to examine the effect of using an android-based disaster preparedness app on community knowledge and intentional behavior in hurricane risk areas. METHODS A quasi-experimental study was conducted from October to November, 2020 and a total of 80 respondents were recruited using cluster sampling. The treatment group was given the intervention in the form of the disaster preparedness app for 2 weeks. Meanwhile, the control group received home visits and conventional education about hurricane disasters twice throughout the same period. We then used a Wilcoxon Signed Rank test to analyze the pre-test and post-test and a Mann-Whitney U test to compare between treatment and control groups. RESULTS After the implementation of the SiBen app, we found a statistically significant difference in knowledge between treatment and control groups (P < 0.003) and intentional behavior between treatment and control groups (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION The findings indicate that the disaster preparedness app was an effective educational program able to improve the knowledge and intentional behavior among community members in a hurricane risk area.

Abstract
Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a common event, affecting almost 400,000 individuals annually in North America. Initiation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and early defibrillation using an automated external defibrillator (AED) are critical for survival, yet many bystanders are reluctant to intervene. Digital technologies, including mobile devices, social media and crowdsourcing may help play a role to improve survival from SCA. In this article we review the current digital tools and strategies available to increase rates of bystander recognition of SCA, prompt immediate activation of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), initiate high quality CPR and to locate, retrieve and operate AEDs. Smartphones can help to both educate and connect bystanders with EMS dispatchers, through text messaging or video-calling, to encourage the initiation of CPR and retrieval of the closest AED. Wearable devices and household smartspeakers could play a future role in continuous vital signs monitoring in individuals at-risk of lethal arrhythmias and send an alert to either chosen contacts or EMS. Machine learning algorithms and mathematical modeling may aid EMS dispatchers with better recognition of SCA as well as policymakers with where to best place AEDs for optimal accessibility. There are challenges with the use of digital tech, including the need for government regulation and issues with data ownership, accessibility and interoperability. Future research will include smart cities, e-linkages, new technologies and using social media for mass education. Together or in combination, these emerging digital technologies may represent the next leap forward in SCA survival.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) among Chinese college students and their attitude towards participating in CPR training and willingness to perform bystander CPR. DESIGN A cross-sectional study. PARTICIPANTS A total of 1128 college students were selected through a multistage stratified random sampling method from 12 universities in Chongqing, China. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOMES Primary outcomes included CPR knowledge and willingness to participate in training and perform bystander CPR; secondary outcomes included CPR training experience and obstacles to training and performing CPR. RESULTS The average score on CPR knowledge was 2.078 (±1.342). Only 45.5% of the respondents were willing to participate in CPR training. Women, respondents who were postgraduate or above, with liberal arts as major and with high CPR knowledge level were more willing to participate in CPR training. A total of 47.2% of the respondents were willing to provide simple assistance, such as checking the consciousness and breathing of the patient and dialling 120 (medical emergency call). Only 34.1% indicated their willingness to perform bystander CPR on strangers. Perceived behavioural control, behavioural attitudes and subjective norms are positive predictors of willingness to provide bystander CPR. CONCLUSIONS CPR knowledge and training rate were low among Chongqing college students. Willingness to participate in training and perform bystander CPR was also low. Improving legislation, strengthening training programmes, incorporating CPR training into the school curriculum and reshaping the social and public culture of offering timely help to those in need are recommended strategies to improve bystander CPR performance.

Abstract
Aim To investigate the structural validity and internal consistency of a cardiopulmonary resuscitation attitudes questionnaire among Allied Health Professions (AHP) university students. Methods Structural validity of a 17-item questionnaire was tested using principal component analysis. A group of AHP university students completed the questionnaire. Internal consistency of the questionnaire was measured by Cronbach’s α. Results A total of 856 AHP students completed the questionnaire (mean age= 20.8 (±1.1) years, 74.0% were females). The analysis reduced a 17-item questionnaire to an 11-item questionnaire. The final questionnaire had three distinct factors; (1) attitudes towards mouth-to-mouth ventilation (MMV), (2) attitudes towards chest compressions (CC), and (3) the importance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). It had factor loadings ranging from 0.629 to 0.878 and could explain 66% of the variance in the attitude. The questionnaire had acceptable internal consistency (Cronbach α=0.83; 95% CI=81.5) and was feasible with no floor or ceiling effect. Conclusion The 11-item CPR attitude questionnaire had acceptable structural validity and internal consistency and good parsimony and unidimensionality. The questionnaire can be used to measure the university students’ attitude and assess the effectiveness of CPR training activities. Future studies are required to measure the responsiveness and applicability to other cohorts.

Abstract
Training in basic life support (BLS) using clinical simulation improves compression rates and the development of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills. This study analyzed the learning outcomes of undergraduate nursing students taking a BLS clinical simulation course. A total of 479 nursing students participated. A pre-test and post-test were carried out to evaluate theoretical knowledge of BLS through questions about anatomical physiology, cardiac arrest, the chain of survival, and CPR. A checklist was used in the simulation to evaluate practical skills of basic CPR. The learning outcomes showed statistically significant differences in the total score of the pre-test and after completing the BLS clinical simulation course (pre-test: 12.61 (2.30), post-test: 15.60 (2.06), p < 0.001). A significant increase in the mean scores was observed after completing the course in each of the four parts of the assessment protocol (p < 0.001). The increase in scores in the cardiac arrest and CPR sections were relevant (Rosenthal’s r: −0.72). The students who had prior knowledge of BLS scored higher on both the pre-test and the post-test. The BLS simulation course was an effective method of teaching and learning BLS skills.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) accounts for variability in intention to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and to explore which constructs in the TPB most strongly predict intention to perform CPR among college students. Participants: Undergraduate college students (N = 588, 51% women) recruited between September and November 2016. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design. Results: Attitude was the strongest predictor of intention to perform CPR (β = 0.381, p < .001), followed by subjective norm (β = 0.303, p < .001), and perceived behavioral control (β = 0.167, p < .001). The TPB accounted for 51% of the variance in intention to perform CPR (F[3, 536] = 186, p < .001). Conclusion: Attitude and subjective norm are the strongest predictors of intention to perform CPR among college students. Resuscitation trainings that highlight positive outcomes and social norms associated with performing CPR may help bystanders form intentions to perform CPR in an emergency.

Abstract
Background: Early bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) improves the chances of successful resuscitation and survival. However, few data are available regarding the willingness to perform CPR among First Aid Attendants on the Workplace (FAAWs) in Italy. The present study was performed in order to identify current attitudes of Italian FAAWs towards CPR. Methods: Between February and June 2017, FAAWs from the Autonomous Province of Trento were asked about their willingness to perform CPR through a structured questionnaire assessing their knowledge about CPR, and the reasons for hesitancy. A cumulative knowledge score (KS) was eventually calculated. Results: A total of 123 FAAWs (male 57.7%, mean age 45.2 years ± 10.1) completed the questionnaire. About 1/3 of participants (32.5%) had previously performed First Aid procedures. Overall, 77.2% exhibited willingness to perform CPR, and such attitude was more frequently reported by subjects younger than 40 years (29.5% vs. 10.7% in older subjects; p=0.045), perceiving First Aid training as useful (98.9% vs. 84.7%, p=0.002), and exhibiting a better knowledge of CPR (KS≥75%: 47.4% vs. 15.3%). The reasons for the unwillingness were inadequate knowledge and doubt regarding whether they could perform the techniques effectively. Eventually, KS was identified as the main predictor for willingness to perform CPR (OR 4.450, 95%CI 1.442-14.350). Conclusions: Willingness to perform CPR was seemingly high, and knowledge of CPR techniques was its main predictor. Abstract
OBJECTIVES The incidence of bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is low in China. CPR training could improve public attitudes and willingness, but at present, the attitudes of the public after online training are unclear. This study investigated individual attitudes towards CPR, the willingness to perform it in emergencies along with the main obstacles and the overall effects of online training. DESIGN Questionnaires were distributed to investigate the public attitudes and willingness towards performing bystander CPR. SETTING Questionnaires were accessible after the online course 'First Aid'. PARTICIPANTS 1888 students who attended 'First Aid' from December 2019 to 1 January 2020 and then completed the questionnaire voluntarily. RESULTS The majority understood CPR (96.7%) and displayed a willingness to learn (98.4%) and to disseminate CPR knowledge (82.0%). Characteristics associated with more positive attitudes included women, the 26-35-year olds and those in medical-related occupations (p<0.05). Only 34.8% had CPR training before. Most people would willingly perform CPR on a close family member. Compared with the standard CPR (S-CPR), the public preferred chest compression-only CPR (CO-CPR) (p<0.01). The top three obstacles to performing CO-CPR were lack of confidence (26.7%), fear of harming the victim (23.4%) and causing legal trouble (20.7%), while regarding S-CPR, fear of disease transmission (22.9%) ranked second. Women, those in poor health and in medical-related occupations, were more likely to perform CPR (p<0.05). The confidence to perform CPR was improved remarkably after online training (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS The overwhelming majority of respondents showed positive attitudes and willingness towards CPR. In some cases, there is still reluctance, especially towards S-CPR. Obstacles arise mainly due to lack of confidence in administering CPR, while online CPR training can markedly improve it. Therefore, we should focus on disseminating CPR knowledge, targeting those who are less willing to perform CPR and helping overcome their obstacles by online training.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is an increasing incidence of cardiovascular diseases in Africa. Nurses' ability to undertake cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can significantly impact the survival of patients who experience cardiac arrest. OBJECTIVES We aimed to identify the effects of CPR training among Registered Nurse-Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN) students in Mozambique. DESIGN A one-group pretest-posttest repeated-measures quasi-experimental design. SETTING Auditorium of a general hospital and 2 Anne manikins, but no automatic external defibrillator. PARTICIPANTS Thirty-two RN-BSN students. METHODS Students' attitudes and self-efficacy on CPR were measured by self-reported questionnaires three times (before, immediately after, and 20 weeks post intervention). Data were analyzed by the paired t-test and repeated-measures analysis of variance. RESULTS Attitude and self-efficacy scores of students on CPR significantly increased immediately after CPR training, but decreased 20 weeks after the intervention (p < .001). Sociodemographic characteristics did not significantly differ throughout the measurements of attitude or self-efficacy. CONCLUSIONS CPR manikin training positively affected attitude and self-efficacy in CPR among RN-BSN nursing students immediately, but not at 20 weeks, after the training. There is a need for research to repeatedly quantify parameters in a controlled study at different intervals and develop an instructor-training course customized to Mozambique.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Early bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) has been associated with better patient outcomes in cardiac arrest. Despite this, not all cases of cardiac arrest receive bystander intervention. Reasons for this gap include disparities in provision of bystander CPR between race, gender and age groups. Concern of legal liability for responders has also been described. We propose that bystanders are more likely to face litigation for lack of intervention compared to providing bystander CPR due to the presence of 'Good Samaritan' statutes in all 50 states. This review of the legal literature seeks to quantify the number of cases brought against bystanders in the US over the past 30 years and explore the reasons behind them. METHODS The Westlaw legal research database was searched for jury verdicts, settlements, and appellate opinions from all 50 states from 1989 to 2019 for personal injury or wrongful death lawsuits involving CPR. Of 506 cases manually reviewed by the authors, 170 were directly related to CPR. Case details including jurisdiction, location, date, plaintiff and defendant demographics, level of training of CPR provider, relationship to patient, motivation for the lawsuit, and case outcomes were recorded. RESULTS Our data show a significant difference in the number of cases of cases alleging battery versus negligence regarding provision of CPR. Of 170 cases, 167 were due to inadequate or untimely bystander CPR. Three cases alleging harm due to providing CPR were identified. CONCLUSIONS This study represents the largest single study of legal cases involving bystander CPR in the medical literature. The likelihood of litigation is significantly higher in cases with bystander CPR absent or delayed. The authors propose the inclusion of this data and reiteration of 'Good Samaritan' statutes in all 50 states during CPR training to reassure and encourage public response to cardiac arrests.

Abstract
Worldwide, millions of people die of sudden cardiac arrest every year. This is partly due to limited and sometimes ineffective bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The need for mouth-to-mouth contact, fear of causing harm, litigation, and the complexity of delivering CPR are the main deterrents. In view of this, the basic life support algorithm has been simplified and lay rescuers are encouraged to perform Hands-Only CPR.The objective of this study is to assess knowledge on and willingness to perform Hands-Only CPR among Malaysian college students and to determine the relationship between the two.In an online self-administered survey, college students responded to a questionnaire on demographics, exposure to CPR, knowledge on Hands-Only CPR, and their willingness to perform Hands-Only CPR in 5 different scenarios (family members or relatives, strangers, trauma victims, children, and elderly people).Data for 393 participants were analyzed. For knowledge, the mean score was 8.6 ± 3.2 and the median score was 9. In the sample, 27% of the respondents did not attend any CPR training before, citing that they were unsure where to attend the course. The knowledge score among those who attended CPR training (M = 3.6, S = 2.9) was significantly higher compared to those who did not (M = 6.7, S = 3.0). Out of the 393 participants, 67.7%, 55%, 37.4%, 45%, and 49.1% were willing to perform Hands-Only CPR on family members or relatives, strangers, trauma victims, children, and elderly people, respectively. There were significant associations (P < .001) between knowledge and willing to perform Hands-Only CPR on family members or relatives (OR = 1.32, 95% CI 1.43, 1.43), strangers (OR = 1.31, 95% CI 1.21, 1.42), trauma victims (OR = 1.21, 95% CI 1.12, 1.31), children (OR = 1.28, 95% CI 1.19, 1.39), and elderly people (OR = 1.36 95% CI 1.25, 1.48).Based on this study, knowledge on Hands-Only CPR among local college students is not encouraging. Not many know where to attend such courses. There was significant association between knowledge and willingness to perform Hands-Only CPR.

Abstract
Objectives The purpose of the study was to investigate the nursing students’ levels of the knowledge, willingness, and attitudes toward first aid behavior as bystanders in road traffic accident and the related factors. Methods A total of 475 nursing students were recruited by convenience choosing in Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The nursing students’ self-efficacy, core self-evaluation, knowledge, willingness and attitudes toward first aid behavior as bystanders in traffic accidents were investigated with a self-designed questionnaire. Results The scores of knowledge, willingness, and attitudes toward first aid behavior in traffic accident trauma were 7.51 ± 1.93, 15.54 ± 5.03, and 7.73 ± 1.56, respectively. Students who once gained training of first aid showed lower levels of attitude toward first aid behavior than those untrained (t = −2.345, P = 0.019). It was found that self-efficacy was correlated to the knowledge (r = 0.150, P < 0.001), willingness (r = 0.182, P < 0.004) and attitudes toward behavior of the first aid (r = 0.371, P < 0.001) among nursing students. Core self-evaluation was correlated to knowledge (r = 0.193, P < 0.001) and attitudes toward behavior of the first aid (r = 0.199, P < 0.001). Conclusions The first aid knowledge among nursing students was not satisfactory. The study suggested that an unsustainable short first-aid training program may bring negative effects. Countermeasures should be taken to ensure both quality and continuity of first aid training. Meanwhile, more attention should be paid to improving the self-efficacy and core self-evaluation of the nursing students.

Abstract
AbstractBackgroundThe “Stop the Bleed” campaign advocates for non-medical personnel to be trained in basic hemorrhage control. However, it is not clear what type of education or the duration of instruction needed to meet that requirement. The objective of this study was to determine the impact of a brief hemorrhage control educational curriculum on the willingness of laypersons to respond during a traumatic emergency.MethodsThis “Stop the Bleed” education initiative was conducted by the University of Texas Health San Antonio Office of the Medical Director (San Antonio, Texas USA) between September 2016 and March 2017. Individuals with formal medical certification were excluded from this analysis. Trainers used a pre-event questionnaire to assess participants knowledge and attitudes about tourniquets and responding to traumatic emergencies. Each training course included an individual evaluation of tourniquet placement, 20 minutes of didactic instruction on hemorrhage control techniques, and hands-on instruction with tourniquet application on both adult and child mannequins. The primary outcome in this study was the willingness to use a tourniquet in response to a traumatic medical emergency.ResultsOf 236 participants, 218 met the eligibility criteria. When initially asked if they would use a tourniquet in real life, 64.2% (140/218) responded “Yes.” Following training, 95.6% (194/203) of participants responded that they would use a tourniquet in real life. When participants were asked about their comfort level with using a tourniquet in real life, there was a statistically significant improvement between their initial response and their response post training (2.5 versus 4.0, based on 5-point Likert scale; P<.001).ConclusionIn this hemorrhage control education study, it was found that a short educational intervention can improve laypersons’ self-efficacy and reported willingness to use a tourniquet in an emergency. Identified barriers to act should be addressed when designing future hemorrhage control public health education campaigns. Abstract
Background The American Heart Association (AHA) has implemented several programs to educate the public about cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). A common issue in bystander CPR is the fear of hurting the victim. As a result, the victim may not receive CPR in time. The purpose of this study was to measure the emotional impact of CPR training on high school students using two approved AHA courses. Methods A total of 60 students participated in this study. These students had a mean age of 15.4 ± 1.2 years old and were selected from a high school in Southern California. Subjects were divided into two groups, Basic Life Support (BLS) (n1 = 31) and Hands-Only™ CPR (n2 = 29). Emotional impacts were assessed by having each subject answer a questionnaire based on given scenarios before and after their training session. Results There was a significant difference in both groups when comparing positive-emotion scores before and after the training (BLS: 30.3 ± 6.0 vs. 34.5 ± 6.7, p < 0.001; Hands-Only 27.9 ± 5.0 vs. 32.1 ± 6.5, p < 0.001). In addition, both groups showed significant reductions in negative-emotion scores (BLS: 29.2 ± 6.7 vs. 23.7 ± 6.5, p < 0.001 and Hands-Only: 26.8 ± 6.1vs. 24.8 ± 7.7, p = 0.05). Conclusion Our results indicate that the AHA programs have positive effects on students’ emotional response. We recommend that future studies include an in-depth study design that probes the complexity of students’ emotions after completing an AHA session.

Abstract
The rate of bystander CPR is much lower in China than in developed countries. This survey was implemented to assess the current status of layperson CPR training, to analyze the willingness of bystanders to perform CPR, and to identify barriers to improving bystander CPR rates. The questionnaire included individual information, current status of bystander CPR training, and individual's willingness and attitude towards performing CPR. There were 25.6% laypersons who took CPR training. The majority (98.6%) of laypersons would perform CPR on their family members, but fewer laypersons (76.3%) were willing to perform CPR on strangers. Most respondents (53.2%) were worried about legal issues. If laws were implemented to protect bystanders who give aid, the number of laypersons who were not willing to perform CPR on strangers dropped from 23.7% to 2.4%. An increasing number of people in China know CPR compared with the situation in the past. CPR training in China is much less common than in many developed countries. The barriers are that laypersons are not well-trained and they fear being prosecuted for unsuccessful CPR. More accredited CPR training courses are needed in China. The laws should be passed to protect bystanders who provide assistance.
