Pd(II)/Pd(0) anchored to magnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O4) modified with biguanidine-chitosan polymer as a novel nanocatalyst for Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions

Polycarboxylate functionalized magnetic nanoparticles Fe3O4@SiO2@CS-COOH: Preparation, characterization, and immobilization of bovine serum albumin

Magnetic nanoparticles with increasing superparamagnetism and magnetic targeting have found widespread application in fields such as food and medicine. In this study, polycarboxylated magnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O4@SiO2@CS-COOH) were prepared by surface functionalizing iron tetraoxide (Fe3O4) nanoparticles with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) as a modifier. The appropriate degree of functionalization modification was obtained by adjusting the EDTA concentration and the ratio of cross-linking agents. The prepared magnetic nanoparticles were analyzed with structural and property characterization. The results showed that the Fe3O4@SiO2@CS-COOH magnetic nanoparticles prepared with 4 % EDTA and cross-linking agents at a molar ratio of 3:4 were uniform in particle size, with an average size of roughly 7 nm, and possessed an abundant carboxylate content (310.8064 μmol/g) and a high magnetization intensity (35.05 emu/g). As a model protein, bovine serum albumin (BSA) was immobilized on the surface of magnetic particles. The largest amount of immobilized protein was 500.4376 mg BSA/g at pH 4.0 and no extra salt ions. According to molecular docking simulations, its immobilization was due to the interaction of amino and carboxyl groups at the Fe3O4@SiO2@CS-COOH/BSA interface. Fe3O4@SiO2@CS-COOH possesses a large number of carboxyl groups, strong protein immobilization, and magnetic responsiveness, which may have potential applications in biomedical and food fields.

Preparation of recyclable magnetic palladium nanocatalysts by dispersion strategy based on sodium alginate for reduction of p-nitrophenol and Suzuki-Miyaura coupling

Palladium (Pd) has excellent catalytic performance, its application is seriously limited by low atomic utilization and weak recovery capacity. To solve these problems, we report a universal palladium nanocatalysts preparation strategy by taking advantage of the rich chemistry of sodium alginate (SA). SA units not only self-assemble into a cross-linked porous carboxyl and hydroxyl framework but also can coat different substrates. Benefiting from the distinguished chelation of SA, metallic nanocatalysts can be achieved. As a proof-of-concept demonstration, Pd loading on nano-Fe3O4 modified with SA and investigated their catalytic capabilities. The catalyst was Fe3O4 nanoparticles encapsulated by SA film loaded with 0.4 wt% of Pd. It has a particle size around 100 nm and has good superparamagnetism with a saturation strength of 76.26 emu/g. It exhibited good catalytic activity at TOF = 660 h-1 and TOF = 4311 h-1 in typical Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction and the reduction of p-nitrophenol, respectively, and showed appreciable recyclability in the test of recyclability. Thus, our findings demonstrate that recyclable magnetic palladium nanocatalysts have several attractive features, such as easy preparation, outstanding catalytic activity and reusability. This work lays the foundation for the preparation of palladium nanocatalysts and the potential application of SA in the field of catalysts.

β-Cyclodextrin-Functionalized Fe3O4-Supported Pd-Nanocatalyst for the Reduction of Nitroarenes in Water at Mild Conditions

In this study, a novel heterogeneous catalyst (Fe₃O₄@β-CD@Pd) has been developed by the deposition of palladium nanoparticles on the β-cyclodextrin-functionalized surface of magnetic Fe₃O₄. The catalyst was prepared by a simple chemical co-precipitation method and characterized extensively by using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) analyses. Herein, the applicability of the prepared material was evaluated for the catalytic reduction of environmentally toxic nitroarenes to the corresponding anilines. The catalyst Fe₃O₄@β-CD@Pd showed excellent efficiency for the reduction of nitroarenes in water under mild conditions. A low catalyst loading of 0.3 mol % Pd is found to be efficient for reducing nitroarenes in excellent to good (99-95%) yields along with high TON values (up to 330). Nevertheless, the catalyst was recycled and reused up to the 5th cycle of reduction of nitroarene without any loss of significant catalytic activity.

Crosslinked modified chitosan biopolymer for enhanced removal of toxic Cr(VI) from aqueous solution

Two new crosslinked modified chitosan biopolymers, namely (CTS-VAN) and (Fe₃O₄@CTS-VAN) bioadsorbents were prepared starting from chitosan and 4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde (VAN) in presence of epichlorohydrin. The analytical techniques FT-IR, EDS, XRD, SEM and XPS besides BET surface analysis were utilized for full characterization of the bioadsorbents. Batch experiments were conducted to study the effect of various influencing parameters in Cr (VI) removal such as initial pH, contact time, adsorbent amount and initial Cr (VI) concentration. The adsorption of Cr (VI) was found out to be maximum at pH = 3 for both bioadsorbents. Langmuir isotherm fit well the adsorption process with a maximum adsorption capacity of 188.68 and 98.04 mg/g for CTS-VAN and Fe₃O₄@CTS-VAN, respectively. The adsorption process followed pseudo second-order kinetics with R² values of 1 and 0.9938 for CTS-VAN and Fe₃O₄@CTS-VAN, respectively. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis showed that Cr(III) accounted for 83 % of the total Cr bound to bioadsorbents surface, which indicated reductive adsorption was responsible for Cr(VI) removal by the bioadsorbents. Cr(VI) was initially adsorbed on the positively charged surface of the bioadsorbents and reduced to Cr(III) by electrons provided by oxygen-comprising functional groups (e.g., CO), and consequently part of the converted Cr(III) stayed on the surface and the rest released into solution.

Magnetic bentonite decorated with Pd nanoparticles and cross-linked polyvinyl pyridine as an efficient nanocatalyst for Suzuki coupling and 4-Nitrophenol reduction reactions

This study reports the preparation of a novel type of support based on magnetically recyclable bentonite functionalized with divinylbenzene-polyvinyl pyridine (PVP-DVB) for Pd (II) nanocatalyst by a simple cost-effective method. Firstly, the conventional co-precipitation method synthesized Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles (NPs) onto bentonite sheets. Then the prepared magnetic support surface was functionalized by divinylbenzene-polyvinyl pyridine (PVP-DVB) to create a cross-linked polymer with a high coordination ability with palladium. Repeated nitrogen units in the PVP-DVB polymer chain increase the number of Pd bonds and thus lead to higher performance of the nanocatalyst. Finally, the palladium NPs were simultaneously synthesized and immobilized under mild conditions. The synthesized nanocatalyst was characterized by several methods such as scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, vibrating sample magnetometer, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry and thermogravimetric analysis. The efficiency of synthesized heterogeneous nanocatalyst was investigated in Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions between a range of aryl halides (X = Cl, Br, I) with phenylboronic acid and in the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP). Moreover, the synthesized nanocatalyst could be easily recovered and reused several times with an efficiency greater than 90%.

Palladium Nanoparticles on Chitosan-Coated Superparamagnetic Manganese Ferrite: A Biocompatible Heterogeneous Catalyst for Nitroarene Reduction and Allyl Carbamate Deprotection

Although metallic nanocatalysts such as palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) are known to possess higher catalytic activity due to their large surface-to-volume ratio, however, in nanosize greatly reducing their activity due to aggregation. To overcome this challenge, superparamagnetic chitosan-coated manganese ferrite was successfully prepared and used as a support for the immobilization of palladium nanoparticles to overcome the above-mentioned challenge. The Pd-Chit@MnFe₂O₄ catalyst exhibited high catalytic activity in 4-nitrophenol and 4-nitroaniline reductions, with respective turnover frequencies of 357.1 min^-1 and 571.4 min^-1, respectively. The catalyst can also be recovered easily by magnetic separation after each reaction. Additionally, the Pd-Chit@MnFe₂O₄ catalyst performed well in the reductive deprotection of allyl carbamate. Coating the catalyst with chitosan reduced the Pd leaching and its cytotoxicity. Therefore, the catalytic activity of Pd-Chit@MnFe₂O₄ was proven to be unrestricted in biology conditions.

Synthesis of M-Ag3PO4, (M = Se, Ag, Ta) Nanoparticles and Their Antibacterial and Cytotoxicity Study

Silver Phosphate, Ag3PO4, being a highly capable clinical molecule, an ultrasonic method was employed to synthesize the M-Ag3PO4, (M = Se, Ag, Ta) nanoparticles which were evaluated for antibacterial and cytotoxicity activities post-characterization. Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were used for antibacterial testing and the effects of sonication on bacterial growth with sub-MIC values of M-Ag3PO4 nanoparticles were examined. The effect of M-Ag3PO4 nanoparticles on human colorectal carcinoma cells (HCT-116) and human cervical carcinoma cells (HeLa cells) was examined by MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide) assay and DAPI (4′,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole) staining. Additionally, we analyzed the effect of nanoparticles on normal and non-cancerous human embryonic kidney cells (HEK-293). Ag-Ag3PO4 exhibited enhanced antibacterial activity followed by Ta-Ag3PO4, Ag3PO4, and Se-Ag3PO4 nanoparticles against E. coli. Whereas the order of antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus was Ag3PO4 > Ag-Ag3PO4 > Ta-Ag3PO4 > Se-Ag3PO4, respectively. Percentage inhibition of E. coli was 98.27, 74.38, 100, and 94.2%, while percentage inhibition of S. aureus was 25.53, 80.28, 99.36, and 20.22% after treatment with Ag3PO4, Se-Ag3PO4, Ag-Ag3PO4, and Ta-Ag3PO4, respectively. The MTT assay shows a significant decline in the cell viability after treating with M-Ag3PO4 nanoparticles. The IC50 values for Ag3PO4, Se-Ag3PO4, Ag-Ag3PO4, and Ta-Ag3PO4 on HCT-116 were 39.44, 28.33, 60.24, 58.34 µg/mL; whereas for HeLa cells, they were 65.25, 61.27, 75.52, 72.82 µg/mL, respectively. M-Ag3PO4 nanoparticles did not inhibit HEK-293 cells. Apoptotic assay revealed that the numbers of DAPI stained cells were significantly lower in the M-Ag3PO4-treated cells versus control.

Efficient and Eco-Friendly Perspectives for C-H Arylation of Benzothiazole Utilizing Pd Nanoparticle-Decorated Chitosan

In this contribution, an eco-friendly, sustainable, and efficient palladium nanoparticle-decorated chitosan (Pd@Chitosan) catalyst was synthesized by a simple impregnation method. The synthesized material was utilized as a heterogeneous catalyst for the C-H arylation of benzothiazole under ultrasonic irradiation. The Pd@Chitosan catalyst efficiently catalyzed the conversion of aryl iodides and bromides to 1-(4-(benzothiazol-2-yl)phenyl)ethan-1-one selectively. A single product of 83–93% yield was obtained in N,N-dimethylformamide solvent at 80 °C for 2.5h. This study reveals that Pd@Chitosan is an efficient catalyst, which catalyzes the C-H arylation with good reaction yields. The activity of the Pd@Chitosan is due to the presence of highly dispersed Pd(0) nanoparticles on the surface of the chitosan and Pd2+; a tentative mechanism was proposed based on the XPS results of the fresh catalyst and spent catalyst.

Ag NPs supported chitosan-agarose modified Fe3O4 nanocomposite catalyzed synthesis of indazolo[2,1-b]phthalazines and anticancer studies against liver and lung cancer cells

In this article we report a novel Ag NPs fabricated chitosan-agarose composite functionalized core-shell type Fe₃O₄ nanoparticle (Ag/CS-Agar@Fe₃O₄). The biogenic material was analyzed over a number of physicochemical methods like, FT-IR, FE-SEM, TEM, EDX, XRD, VSM and ICP-OES. In catalytic exploration we aimed the synthesis of diverse 2H-indazolo0-b]phthalazine-trione derivatives via one-pot three component coupling of phathalalhydrazide, dimedone and different aldehydes. It afforded good to excellent yields under solvent-less conditions. Robustness of the catalyst was justified by catalyst recyclability for consecutive 10 times, hot filtration and leaching tests. Again, biological activity of the material was evaluated by studying the antioxidant and cytotoxicity properties over lung and liver cancer cell lines. Antioxidant potential of Ag/CS-Agar@Fe₃O₄ was assessed by DPPH radical scavenging studies and the corresponding IC50 was found to be 96.57 μg/mL. Liver and lung cancer studies over Ag/CS-Agar@Fe₃O₄ was carried out by MTT assay against HepG2 and A549 cell lines. The corresponding IC50 values were found as 192.35 and 365.28 μg/mL respectively. % Cell viability of the nanomaterial decreased dose dependently over both the cell lines without any cytotoxicity on normal cell line. The results demonstrates Ag/CS-Agar@Fe₃O₄ nanocomposite to be an efficient chemotherapeutic drug against the lung and hepatocellular carcinoma cells.

Efficient Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction by loading trace Pd nanoparticles onto copper-complex-derived Cu/C-700 solid support

The development of efficient carbon-carbon cross-coupling catalysts with low noble metal amounts attracts much attention recently. Herein, a Cu/C-700/Pd nanocomposite is obtained by loading trace Pd²⁺ onto carbon support derived from a novel mononuclear copper complex, {[Cu(POP)₂(Phen)₂]BF₄}. The as-prepared nanomaterial features the facial structure of highly dispersed copper phosphide nanoparticles as well as Pd nanoparticles via neighboring Cu-Pd sites. The Cu/C-700/Pd nanocomposite shows excellent catalytic activity (99.73%) and selectivity in Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction, at trace Pd loading (0.43 mol%). Compared with the reported palladium nano catalysts, its advantages are proved. The appealing gateway to this stable, innovative and recyclability, Cu/C-700/Pd nanostructure recommends its beneficial utilization in carbon-carbon coupling and other environmentally friendly processes.

NIR-II Responsive Hollow Magnetite Nanoclusters for Targeted Magnetic Resonance Imaging-Guided Photothermal/Chemo-Therapy and Chemodynamic Therapy

Phototherapy in the second near-IR (1000-1700 nm, NIR-II) window has achieved much progress because of its high efficiency and relatively minor side effects. In this paper, a new NIR-II responsive hollow magnetite nanocluster (HMNC) for targeted and imaging-guided cancer therapy is reported. The HMNC not only provides a hollow cavity for drug loading but also serves as a contrast agent for tumor-targeted magnetic resonance imaging. The acid-induced dissolution of the HMNCs can trigger a pH-responsive drug release for chemotherapy and catalyze the hydroxyl radical (·OH) formation from the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide for chemodynamic therapy. Moreover, the HMNCs can adsorb and convert NIR-II light into local heat (photothermal conversion efficacy: 36.3%), which can accelerate drug release and enhance the synergistic effect of chemo-photothermal therapy. The HMNCs show great potential as a versatile nanoplatform for targeted imaging-guided trimodal cancer therapy.

Copper nanoparticle anchored biguanidine-modified Zr-UiO-66 MOFs: a competent heterogeneous and reusable nanocatalyst in Buchwald-Hartwig and Ullmann type coupling reactions

We have designed a functionalized metal-organic framework (MOF) of UiO topology as a support, with an extremely high surface area, adjustable pore sizes and stable crystalline coordination polymeric structure and implanted copper (Cu) nanoparticles thereon. The core three dimensional Zr-derived MOF (UiO-66-NH2) was modified with a biguanidine moiety following a covalent post-functionalization approach. The morphological and physicochemical features of the material were determined using analytical methods such as FT-IR, SEM, TEM, EDX, atomic mapping, XRD and ICP-OES. The SEM and XRD results justified the unaffected morphology of Zr-MOF after structural modifications. The as-synthesized UiO-66-biguanidine/Cu nanocomposite was catalytically explored in the aryl and heteroaryl Buchwald-Hartwig C-N and Ullmann type C-O cross coupling reactions with excellent yields. A library of biaryl amine and biaryl ethers was synthesized over the catalyst under mild and green conditions. Furthermore, the catalyst was isolated by centrifugation and recycled 11 times with no significant copper leaching or change in its activity.

Ionic chitosan Schiff bases supported Pd(II) and Ru(II) complexes; production, characterization, and catalytic performance in Suzuki cross-coupling reactions

Taking the advantage of multifunctional characteristics of chitosan (CS), we have developed new scaffolds (imidazolium-vanillyl-chitosan Schiff bases (IVCSSBs)) for supporting Pd(II) and Ru(II) ions in catalyzing Suzuki coupling reactions. The structures of new materials were described based on their elemental, spectral, thermal, and microscopic analysis. The strong interactions between the binding sites of IVCSSB ligand (OH, H-C=N, and OCH₃ groups) and Pd(II) ions resulted in the formation of an excellent heterogeneous catalyst (Pd(II)IVCSSB1) with amazing catalytic activity (up to 99%) and highly stable in the reaction medium. The reusability experiments for Pd(II)IVCSSB₁ revealed that there is no appreciable decrease in its catalytic activity even after five consecutive operation runs. Furthermore, this heterogeneous catalyst showed an excellent selectivity toward the cross-coupling reaction where no homo-coupling byproducts were observed in the ¹H NMR spectra of the obtained products. Consequently, the present ionic catalytic system may open a new window for a novel generation of ionic bio-based catalysts for organic transformations.

Immobilizing of palladium on melamine functionalized magnetic chitosan beads: A versatile catalyst for p-nitrophenol reduction and Suzuki reaction in aqueous medium

In this study, an environmental-friendly palladium catalyst with high efficiency, magnetic, recoverability, reusability, and excellent stability was prepared and thoroughly characterized by the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Elemental mapping, Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). Results demonstrates that melamine provides a coordination point on the surface of chitosan microspheres, which provides a platform for the uniform distribution of palladium (II) and combines with palladium (II) firmly to avoid unnecessary leaching of nanoparticles. Besides, Fe₃O₄/CS-Me@Pd microcapsules exhibited high catalytic performance in reducing p-NP in water at room temperature (150-300 s). This composite was also effective in the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction under mild conditions with high catalytic performance (TON = 3.8 × 10⁴, TOF = 7.6 × 10⁴). Reproducibility experiments also showed that Fe₃O₄/CS-Me@Pd microcapsules have high recovery efficiency and can work at least six times during these two catalytic reactions. The hot filtration test indicated that the catalyst has heterogeneous nature.

Magnetic chitosan stabilized palladium nanostructures: Potential catalysts for aqueous Suzuki coupling reactions

This work describes the preparation of palladium-based catalyst supported on magnetic chitosan (Pd@IO-Chitosan) for Suzuki Miyaura C-C coupling reaction. The Pd@IO-Chitosan catalyst was characterized using different spectroscopic and microscopic techniques such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), transmission electron microscope (TEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), X-ray Absorption Near Edge Structure (XANES) Spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Pd@IO-Chitosan was further analysed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) in order to determine its thermal behavior. The catalyst comprised Pd, PdO species stabilised by chitosan that facilitated Suzuki coupling reactions. Palladium loading as low as 0.0055 mol% was found to be effective for aqueous Suzuki cross-couplings with excellent yields of over 99%. The catalyst could be recycled and reused at least 12 times with no significant decrease in its catalytic activity.

A magnetically retrievable mixed-valent Fe3O4@SiO2/Pd0/PdII nanocomposite exhibiting facile tandem Suzuki coupling/transfer hydrogenation reaction

Herein, we report a magnetically retrievable mixed-valent Fe3O4@SiO2/Pd0/PdIINP (5) nanocomposite system for tandem Suzuki coupling/transfer hydrogenation reaction. The nanocomposite 5 was prepared first by making a layer of [Formula: see text] on [Formula: see text] followed by deposition of [Formula: see text] and sorption of [Formula: see text] ions successively onto the surface of Fe3O4@SiO2NP. The nanocomposite was characterized by powder XRD, electron microscopy (SEM-EDS and TEM-EDS) and XPS spectroscopy techniques. The mixed-valent [Formula: see text] present onto the surface of nanocomposite 5 was confirmed by XPS technique. Interestingly, the mixed-valent nanocomposite Fe3O4@SiO2/Pd0/PdIINP (5) exhibited tandem Suzuki coupling/transfer hydrogenation reaction during the reaction of aryl bromide with aryl boronic acid (90% of C). The nanocomposite 5 displayed much better reactivity as compared to the monovalent Fe3O4@SiO2/Pd0NP (3) (25% of C) and Fe3O4@SiO2/PdIINP (4) (15% of C) nanocomposites. Further, because of the presence of magnetic [Formula: see text], the nanocomposite displayed its facile separation from the reaction mixture and reused at least for five catalytic cycles.

Decorated palladium nanoparticles on chitosan/δ-FeOOH microspheres: A highly active and recyclable catalyst for Suzuki coupling reaction and cyanation of aryl halides

In this study, an eco-friendly and low cost magnetic nanocomposite consisting of chitosan/δ-FeOOH microspheres (CS/δ-FeOOH) was fabricated as a stabilizer by using a simple method. Pd nanoparticles (Pd NPs) were decorated on the designed CS/δ-FeOOH, and the resulting Pd NPs@CS/δ-FeOOH microspheres were employed as a heterogeneous catalyst in the construction of biaryl and benzonitriles. Pd NPs@CS/δ-FeOOH microspheres efficiently catalyzed the conversion of aryl iodides and bromides to the desired biaryls within 3 h. Moreover, Pd NPs@CS/δ-FeOOH microspheres showed high catalytic potential against synthesis of benzonitriles by providing yields up to of 99% within 4 h. More importantly, it was proved that Pd NPs@CS/δ-FeOOH microspheres were able to be easily recycled and reused up to eight runs for both reactions. This study reveals that Pd NPs@CS/δ-FeOOH microspheres are useful and recyclable nanocatalysts, which catalyze the synthesis of biaryl and benzonitriles with good reaction yields.

Recovery of lanthanum cations by functionalized magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotube bundles

Rare-earth elements (REE), including La, are critical raw materials in many technological advancements. Collection of physically adsorbed REEs on clay minerals can be realized first by ion-exchange leaching, followed by adsorption enrichment. Ever increasing demand and limited resources of REEs have fueled the development of nanostructured adsorbents. In this paper, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were purified using concentrated H2SO4 and HNO3, then coupled with magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles to make low concentration La ion extraction from water possible. The MWCNT@Fe3O4 composites were further crosslinked with 0.1 wt% epichlorohydrin and functionalized with 0.5 wt% carbon disulfide to achieve a La3+ adsorption capacity of 23.23 mg g-1. We fully probed the morphology, crystallinity, chemical composition, and magnetic properties of the as-prepared adsorbent by scanning/transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffractometry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, vibrating-sample magnetometry, and thermal gravimetry. These results indicated that the MWCNT@Fe3O4 nanohybrid may be a promising candidate for recovering La ions from aqueous solutions.

Ultrasound assisted synthesis of Pd NPs decorated chitosan-starch functionalized Fe3O4 nanocomposite catalyst towards Suzuki-Miyaura coupling and reduction of 4-nitrophenol

In recent days the nanomagnetic biocomposites have been evolved as sustainable green catalysts. In that context, we are prompted to design and synthesize a novel Pd NP adorned chitosan-starch dual biopolymer encapsulated core-shell type magnetic nanocomposite (Fe₃O₄@CS-Starch/Pd) in an eco-friendly pathway applying ultrasound irradiations. The morphological and physicochemical features of the material were determined using several advanced techniques like FT-IR, FESEM, HRTEM, EDX, atomic mapping, VSM, XRD and ICP-OES. Catalytic efficiency of the material was investigated in the ultrasound assisted classical Suzuki-Miyaura coupling towards the synthesis of diverse range of biaryl derivatives and in the catalytic reduction of 4-Nitrophenol.In both the protocols the catalyst exhibited excellent performances. Sonication had a significant role in enhancing the catalytic performances in both the reactions as compared to conventional heating. Due to super-paramagnetism, the catalyst was easily magnetically isolable and reused in 11 cycles without considerable leaching and change in reactivity.

In situ supported Pd NPs on biodegradable chitosan/agarose modified magnetic nanoparticles as an effective catalyst for the ultrasound assisted oxidation of alcohols and activities against human breast cancer

In this content, a green approach for the ultrasound promoted in situ immobilization of Pd NPs over biodegradable chitosan/agarose modified ferrite NP (Fe₃O₄@CS-Agarose/Pd) is developed. The structural and physicochemical features of the material were estimated using advanced analytical techniques like FT-IR, ICP-OES, FESEM, EDS, XRD, TEM and VSM. The magnetic material was catalytically explored in the oxidation of alcohols under ultrasonic waves. Sonication had a significant role in enhancing the catalytic performance in the alcohol's oxidation as compared to conventional heating. The heterogeneous nanocatalyst was efficiently recycled up to 10 times with nominal loss in catalytic activity. Towards the biological applications, the Fe₃O₄@CS-Agarose/Pd nanocomposite showed high antioxidant activities against DPPH free radicals, comparable to standard butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). In addition, it exhibited excellent cytotoxicity in terms of % cell viability against breast adenocarcinoma (MCF7), breast carcinoma (Hs 578Bst), infiltrating ductal cell carcinoma (Hs 319.T), and metastatic carcinoma (MDA-MB-453) cell lines. The best anti-breast cancer potential of the nanocomposite was observed in Hs 319.T cell line.

Chitosan capped noble metal doped CeO2 nanomaterial: Synthesis, and their enhanced catalytic activities

Chitosan (Ch) capped Ch-CeO₂, Ch-CeO₂/Ag, Ch-CeO₂/Pd and Ch-CeO₂/Ag/Pd nanomaterials were fabricated using seedless and metal displacement plating method. The Ce⁴⁺ ions first formed complex with Ch through amino and hydroxyl groups and then reduced in presence of NaOH and molecular oxygen at higher temperature. Ch-Ag⁺ and Ch-Pd²⁺ complexes adsorbed on the surface of Ch-CeO₂ and reduced under potential deposition. Ninhydrin reaction test was conducted to confirm the presence of chitosan on the surface of NMs. The catalytic efficiency was increases markedly with incorporating noble metal into Ch-CeO₂ NMs. Ch-CeO₂/Ag/Pd exhibits higher catalytic performance towards hydrogen generation due to the narrow band gap (2.65 eV) and smaller work function of CeO₂ (ϕ = 2.8 eV) than that of Ag⁰(ϕ =4.6 eV) and Pd⁰ (ϕ = 5.2 eV). Hydrogen generation rates increases with temperature and activation energies were found to be 63.2, 60.3, 56.2 and 53.0 kJ/mol for Ch-CeO₂, Ch-CeO₂/Ag, Ch-CeO₂/Pd, and Ch-CeO₂/Ag/Pd, respectively. CeO₂/Ag/Pd shows better catalytic efficiency due to the strong interaction between Ag/Pd metal and active support CeO₂. The photocatalytic rates drastically inhibited with scavengers, demonstrate that the reactive radical oxygen species (HO and O₂^-), holes (h⁺) and electrons (e^-) played major role in the NaBH₄ hydrolysis.

Immobilized Ag NPs on chitosan-biguanidine coated magnetic nanoparticles for synthesis of propargylamines and treatment of human lung cancer

The magnetically isolable nanobiocomposites have significant impact as the modified new generation catalysts in recent days. This has persuaded us to design and synthesis of a novel Ag NPs decorated biguanidine-chitosan (Bigua-CS) dual biomolecular functionalized core-shell type magnetic nanocomposite (Ag/Bigua-CS@Fe₃O₄). Bigua-CS could be introducing polysaccharide materials as potential coating agent to immobilizing and stabilizing metal nanoparticles. The material was characterized using several advanced techniques like fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), inductively coupled plasma (ICP), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), atomic mapping, high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Towards the chemical applications of the material, we headed the multicomponent synthesis of diverse propargylamines by A³ coupling in water, which ended up with excellent yields. Due to strong paramagnetism, the catalyst was easily isolable and reused in 9cycles without any leaching and considerable change in reactivity. In addition, the catalyst was engaged in biological assays like study of anti-oxidant properties by DPPH mediated free radical scavenging test using BHT as a reference molecule. Thereafter, on having a significant IC₅₀ value in radical scavenging assay, we extended the bio-application of the catalyst in anticancer study of adenocarcinoma cells of human lungs. The three different cancer cell lines, PC-14, LC-2/ad and HLC-1 were used in this regard. The best result was achieved in the case of PC-14 cell line with strong IC₅₀ values.

Decorated Au NPs on agar modified Fe3O4 NPs: Investigation of its catalytic performance in the degradation of methylene orange, and anti-human breast carcinoma properties

This work describes an eco-friendly approach for in situ immobilization of Au nanoparticles on the surface of Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles, with help of Agar and ultrasound irradiations, without using any toxic reducing and capping agents. The structure, morphology, and physicochemical properties were characterized by various analytical techniques such as Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), inductively coupled plasma (ICP) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The desired catalyst showed great efficiency in the reductive degradation of methylene orange (MO) dye over NaBH₄ at room temperature. The MO was fully reduced in only 70 s and achieved rate constant of 9.6 × 10^-2 s^-1. The catalyst was reused for 10 runs without significant loss in catalytic activity. Cell viability of Fe₃O₄/agar/Au NPs was very low against breast adenocarcinoma (MCF7), breast carcinoma (Hs 578Bst), infiltrating ductal cell carcinoma (Hs 319.T), and metastatic carcinoma (MDA-MB-453) cell lines without any cytotoxicity on the normal cell line. According to the above findings, the Fe₃O₄/agar/Au NPs may be administrated for the treatment of several types of human breast carcinoma in humans.
