Abstract
Multifunctional nanoplatforms developed from natural polymers and graphene oxide (GO) with enhanced biological/physicochemical features have recently attracted attention in the biomedical field. Herein, a new multifunctional near-infrared (NIR) light-, pH- and magnetic field-sensitive hybrid nanoplatform (mGO@AL-g-PHPM@ICG/EP) is developed by combining iron oxide decorated graphene oxide nanosheets (mGO) and poly(2-hydroxypropylmethacrylamide) grafted alginate (AL-g-PHPM) copolymer loaded with indocyanine green (ICG) and etoposide (EP) for chemo/phototherapy. The functional groups, specific crystal structure, size, morphology, and thermal stability of the nanoplatform were fully characterized by XRD, UV, FTIR, AFM/TEM/FE-SEM, VSM, DSC/TG, and BET analyses. In this platform, the mGO and ICG, as phototherapeutic agents, demonstrate excellent thermal effects and singlet oxygen production under NIR-light (808 nm) irradiation. The XRD and DSC analysis confirmed the amorphous state of the ICG/EP in the nanoparticles. In vitro photothermal tests proved that the mGO@AL-g-PHPM@ICG/EP nanoparticles had outstanding light stability and photothermal conversion ability. The in vitro release profiles presented NIR light-, pH- and magnetic field-controlled EP/ICG release behaviors. In vitro experiments demonstrated the excellent antitumor activity of the mGO@AL-g-PHPM@ICG/EP against H1299 tumor cells under NIR laser. Benefiting from its low-cost, facile preparation, and good dual-modal therapy, the mGO@AL-g-PHPM@ICG/EP nanoplatform holds great promise in multi-stimuli-sensitive drug delivery and chemo/phototherapy.

Abstract
Removing free hemoglobin generated during extracorporeal circulation remains a challenge. Currently, there is no adsorbent with specificity and good biosafety for removing hemoglobin. In this study, a new chitosan/sodium alginate/carbon nitride (CS/SA/C3N4) hydrogel adsorbent was prepared by blending SA with C3N4 to drop into CS/CaCl2 solution. The physicochemical properties of CS/SA/C3N4 hydrogel were evaluated using some techniques, including scanning electron microscope, Zeta potential measurement, and thermogravimetric analysis. Hemoglobin adsorption in vitro, stability, hemocompatibility, cell compatibility, inflammatory reaction and blood extracorporeal circulation in vivo were also evaluated. The findings revealed that the CS/SA/C3N4-0.4 % hydrogel exhibited an impressive adsorption capacity of 142.35 mg/g for hemoglobin. The kinetic data of hemoglobin adsorption were well-described by pseudo second-order model, while the isothermal model data conformed to the Langmuir model. The hardness and modulus of CS/SA/C3N4-0.4 % was 11.7 KPa and 94.66 KPa respectively, which indicated robust resistance to breakage. CS/SA/C3N4 demonstrated excellent hemocompatibility, biocompatibility and anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, the results of in vivo rabbit extracorporeal blood circulation experiment demonstrated that CS/SA/C3N4 could adsorb free hemoglobin from blood while maintaining high biosafety standard. Consequently, CS/SA/C3N4 hydrogel emerges as a promising candidate for use as a hemoglobin adsorbent in extracorporeal blood circulation system.

Abstract
Sustainable development has become an inevitable trend in the world's green chemical industry for a generation or more. In this study, a monodisperse magnetic polystyrene mesoporous composite microsphere (MPPS) composed of Fe3O4 nanoparticles loaded on polystyrene mesoporous microspheres is introduced. These microspheres serve as effective adsorbents for the swift removal of cationic dyes. The fabrication of the wastewater adsorbent, with its simple operation and economic practicality, involved a combination of dispersion polymerization, a sulfonation reaction, two-step swelling polymerization, and in situ alkaline oxidation technology. Notably, the adsorption capacity within 3 min reaches 184.0 mg/g, with an impressive adsorption efficiency of 92%. This is primarily attributed to the high specific surface area (Smax) of the MPPS providing more reaction sites for π-π interaction. Simultaneously, the attractive force between negatively charged sulfonic acid groups and cationic dyes is enhanced through surface modification of the MPPS. Furthermore, the MPPS, boasting a maximum saturation magnetization of 38.19 emu/g, ensures rapid separation from the solution for recycling within 3 s. Even after 5 cycles, the adsorption efficiency remains over 90%. The rapid separation of dyes is facilitated by the magnetic attraction of Fe3O4 nanoparticles from the MPPS under the application of a magnetic field. These composite mesoporous materials exhibit outstanding performance in both efficient selective adsorption and recyclability, presenting a novel green adsorbent with promising prospects for sustainable development. This innovation is poised to excel in fields such as sewage treatment, separation, and purification.

Abstract
Background The ability of nanomaterials to induce osteogenic differentiation is limited, which seriously imped the repair of craniomaxillofacial bone defect. Magnetic graphene oxide (MGO) nanocomposites with the excellent physicochemical properties have great potential in bone tissue engineering. In this study, we aim to explore the craniomaxillofacial bone defect repairment effect of MGO nanocomposites and its underlying mechanism. Methods The biocompatibility of MGO nanocomposites was verified by CCK8, live/dead staining and cytoskeleton staining. The function of MGO nanocomposites induced osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs was investigated by ALP activity detection, mineralized nodules staining, detection of osteogenic genes and proteins, and immune-histochemical staining. BMSCs with or without MGO osteogenic differentiation induction were collected and subjected to high-throughput circular ribonucleic acids (circRNAs) sequencing, and then crucial circRNA circAars was screened and identified. Bioinformatics analysis, Dual-luciferase reporter assay, RNA binding protein immunoprecipitation (RIP), fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and osteogenic-related examinations were used to further explore the ability of circAars to participate in MGO nanocomposites regulation of osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs and its potential mechanism. Furthermore, critical-sized calvarial defects were constructed and were performed to verify the osteogenic differentiation induction effects and its potential mechanism induced by MGO nanocomposites. Results We verify the good biocompatibility and osteogenic differentiation improvement effects of BMSCs mediated by MGO nanocomposites. Furthermore, a new circRNA-circAars, we find and identify, is obviously upregulated in BMSCs mediated by MGO nanocomposites. Silencing circAars could significantly decrease the osteogenic ability of MGO nanocomposites. The underlying mechanism involved circAars sponging miR-128-3p to regulate the expression of SMAD5, which played an important role in the repair craniomaxillofacial bone defects mediated by MGO nanocomposites. Conclusion We found that MGO nanocomposites regulated osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs via the circAars/miR-128-3p/SMAD5 pathway, which provided a feasible and effective strategy for the treatment of craniomaxillofacial bone defects.

Abstract
This study aimed to develop a novel adsorbent designed for the removal of diclofenac sodium (DS) from water. The synthesized adsorbent, a composite sponge known as guava seeds activated carbon loaded calcium alginate (GSAC@CA aerogel), was created through the combination of powdered activated carbon derived from guava seeds and loaded onto a calcium alginate hydrogel. Characterization through SEM, XRD, FT-IR, BET, and XPS revealed a confirmed surface area of 738.82 m2/g. The investigation delved into assessing the influence of pH, initial DS concentration, and adsorbent dose on the adsorption of DS. Isotherm studies on adsorption suggested that a Langmuir model provided a good fit, indicating a monolayer adsorption process. Kinetic studies revealed a well-fitted pseudo-second-order model, shedding light on the dynamics of the reaction. The chemisorption nature was elucidated by the Dubinin-Radushkevich model, demonstrating an adsorption energy of 22.6 kJ/mol. These results affirm the potential of the GSAC@CA aerogel composite sponge as an efficient adsorbent for removing diclofenac sodium from water. Examination of the impact of temperature on the adsorption process revealed an endothermic behavior, indicating an increase in temperature. The positive change in entropy suggested the spontaneous nature of the reaction. Remarkably, the GSAC@CA aerogel composite sponge exhibited strong adsorption capabilities, achieving a maximum adsorption capacity of 489.97 mg/g. Across five consecutive cycles, the composite consistently demonstrated high-level adsorption, maintaining a removal efficiency of 87.77 %. The adsorption mechanism of diclofenac sodium (DS) on the GSAC@CA aerogel composite sponge was determined to encompass various processes, such as hydrogen bonding, π-π interactions, ion exchange, and electrostatic pore filling. Additionally, the adsorbent demonstrated successful regeneration over three cycles when applied to a real-world sample. The incorporation of the Box-Behnken design (BBD) introduced a strategic aspect to enhance adsorption outcomes, offering valuable insights for optimizing the adsorption process in practical applications.

Abstract
Methylene blue (MB), a common dye in the textile industry, has a multitude of detrimental consequences on humans and the environment. Accordingly, it is necessary to remove dyes from water to guarantee our health and sustainable ecosystem. In this study, we developed polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-based hydrogel adsorbents with high adsorption capacity by adding three types of carrageenan (kappa, iota, and lambda) to remove MB from water. Thanks to the functional groups, the PVA/carrageenan membranes dramatically increased the removal efficiency (kappa, 98.8%; iota, 97.0%; lambda, 95.4%) compared to the pure PVA membrane (6.3%). Among the three types of PVA/carrageenan membranes, the PVA/kappa-carrageenan membrane exhibited the best adsorption capacity of 147.8 mg/g. This result implies that steric hindrance was considerably significant, given that kappa carrageenan has only one sulfate group in the repeating unit, whereas iota and lambda carrageenan composite PVA membranes possess two and three sulfate groups. Apart from the maximum adsorption capacity, this study addressed a variety of characteristics of PVA/carrageenan membranes such as the effects of initial MB concentration, kappa carrageenan weight percentage, contact time, adsorbent dosage, and temperature on the adsorption performance. In addition, the kinetic and thermodynamic studies were also carried out. Lastly, the reusability of the PVA/carrageenan membrane was verified by the 98% removal efficiency maintained after five adsorption-desorption cycles.

Abstract
The rapid development of the printing and dyeing industry has led to the production of a large amount of high-density printing and dyeing wastewater, and technology for its effective treatment has become a focus of research. To construct a polymeric adsorbent material with abundant functional groups for the efficient adsorption of dye wastewater, a novel magnetic sodium alginate/carboxymethylcellulose interpenetrating network gel sphere (Fe3O4@SA/CMC-Fe) was prepared by co-blending sodium alginate (SA) and sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) with Fe3O4; Fe3O4@SA/CMC-Fe was characterized by SEM-EDS, XRD, TGA, FT-IR, UV-Vis, VSM, BET-BJH and XPS. Static adsorption experiments showed that the optimal rates for adsorption of DV 51 and DR 23 from solutions with neutral pH values by Fe3O4@SA/CMC-Fe were up to 96 %, the adsorption process exhibited a Langmuir adsorption isotherm, and the dynamic adsorption process was accurately described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. A thermodynamic study showed that the adsorption reactions were all spontaneous exothermic reactions with increasing entropy. The mechanism for adsorption of the dyes by Fe3O4@SA/CMC-Fe involved hydrogen bonding, complexation and electrostatic adsorption. In summary, Fe3O4@SA/CMC-Fe is a green, simple, recyclable and highly efficient magnetic adsorbent that is expected to be widely used in treating dye wastewaters over a wide pH range.

Abstract
A versatile foam based on Schiff base crosslinking of oxidized nanofibrillated cellulose (ONFC) with amino modified graphene oxide (NGO) and chitosan (CS) was prepared for the efficacious selective removal of anionic dyes. (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES) was employed as a surface modifier to yield an amino modified graphene oxide (NGO). Meanwhile, ONFC was obtained via a periodate oxidation process to produce dialdehyde groups. Thus, the Schiff base crosslinking of ONFC with NGO and CS enabled to be readily accomplished, producing a versatile NGO/ONFC/CS foam. Systematical characterizations confirmed the successful covalent crosslinking and formation of NGO/ONFC/CS foams. Selective adsorption of Allura Red (AR) and orange G (OG) over cationic dye methylene blue (MB) by NGO/ONFC/CS was confirmed. It was found the maximum adsorption capacities of AR and OG at 303 K were 416.7 and 300.5 mg g-1, while it was 14.60 mg g-1 for MB. Thus, the new Schiff base crosslinked NGO/ONFC/CS paves the way for developing versatile graphene based foams in the applications of water treatment.

Abstract
Azo dye methyl orange (MO) and shell rotting cause great environmental pollution. Most of the common dye adsorbents are difficult to produce, not environmentally friendly and it is always difficult to utilize the shell resources effectively. In this study, shell-based economical and environmentally friendly magnetic hydroxyapatite microsphere adsorbents (Fe3O4 @SiO2/HAP) were developed for the removal of MO from simulated wastewater by sol-gel and hydrothermal synthesis methods. The effects of solution pH, initial concentration, adsorption time and system temperature on the adsorption effect were investigated, and the repeat recovery performance was explored. The equilibrium adsorption data follow the Freundlich isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic curves, and the analysis indicates that the adsorption process is spontaneously exothermic. The adsorption capacities of MO were up to 94.48% and 88.94%, under the acidic environment of pH = 4, respectively, and had good recycling performance. The results provide a high-value utilization pathway for waste shell resources and focus on the removal of azo dyes. This is expected to provide new development ideas for the environmental hazards caused by acid dye wastewater discharged into rivers and oceans, as well as the problems of soil pollution and resource waste caused by weathering and corrosion of shells.

Abstract
Biocompatible materials and biocarriers have attracted great attention in biological wastewater treatment owing to their excellent performance in improving pollutant removal. Graphene-based material, a biocarrier candidate, with excellent adsorbability and conductivity was increasingly applied in anaerobic digestion due to its exceptional potential in the adsorption and electron transfer process. Nevertheless, the green approach for the formation of bio-graphene complexes and their mechanism in dye removal is limited. The aim of this study is to investigate and assess the performance of biological graphene hydrogel (BGH) formed by Shewanella putrefaciens CN32 on the removal of methyl orange (MO) and methylene blue (MB). The results showed that the formation of BGH is determined by the physicochemical characteristics of graphene oxide, including sheet size, oxidation degree, and interlayer distance. BGHs significantly increased the removal efficiency of dyes in comparison to non-graphene samples, with a 24-h removal rate of MO and MB reaching 92.9% and 91%, respectively. The synergetic mechanism of BGH on the enhanced removal rate of organic dye can be ascribed to GO's ability in accelerating extracellular electron transfer and stimulating biodegradation pathways relating to c-type cytochromes, including MtrA and MtrC. These findings provided an understanding of the relationship between graphene-based nanomaterials and Shewanella, which facilitated their future application in environmental biotechnology.

Abstract
Excessive levels of formaldehyde (FA) represent serious health risks. Aiming at the detection of formaldehyde content, this paper proposes a self-assembly method of proportional nanoprobes. Spherical nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared by one-step condensation reaction between rhodamine B (RhB) and chitosan (CS). After CS was modified by RhB, the linear structure changed and self-assembled under the action of "hydrophilic/hydrophobic" to form a core-shell structure with a cavity structure. The hydrophobic small molecule probe N-Butyl-4-Hydrazo-1,8-Naphacticimide (NBHN) spontaneously entered into the hydrophobic cavity to form spherical particles Chitosan-Rhodamine B@N-Butyl-4-Hydrazo-1,8-Naphacticimide (CS-RhB@NBHN) with a size of about 60 nm. The hydroxyl groups on CS enrich formaldehyde through charge interaction, and promote the reaction of formaldehyde with NBHN, so that the probe can detect formaldehyde at a lower concentration (detection limit 87 nmol·L-1). The self-assembled CS-RhB@NBHN nanoparticles significantly increased the response speed of NBHN (from 30 min to 10 min). After the reaction of NBHN with formaldehyde, the PET effect is released, the fluorescence transition from red to yellow of CS-RhB@NBHN, and the visual fluorescence response effect to formaldehyde is significantly improved. With the help of smartphone color recognition software, we converted the color of the probe solution into RGB values to realize the quantitative and visual detection of formaldehyde. In addition, CS-RhB@NBHN was used for the detection of FA in leather and air.

Abstract
In this study, composite microbeads were prepared using Festuca arundinacea seeds and sodium alginate biopolymer at different ratios and utilized as sorbents for the sorption of Safranine T from wastewater. The sorbents were characterized by FTIR, SEM, XRD, and BET analysis. According to BET analysis, the specific surface area of the adsorbents was calculated to be 10.99 m2/g and the surface was found to be mesoporous. The optimum conditions for adsorption studies including initial pH (2-12), concentration (10-50 mg/L), contact time (0-150 min), and adsorbent mass (0.05 g/50 mL-0.25 g/50 mL) were determined at 25 °C. The raw data obtained from sorption tests were applied to Freundlich, Langmuir-1, Langmuir-2, Langmuir-3, Langmuir-4, Temkin, Toth, and Koble-Corrigan isotherm models. The best results were obtained from the Langmuir-2 and accordingly the qm values were calculated as 454.54, 833.33, and 625.00 mg/g for FA, FA-SA-20, and FA-SA-30 at 25 °C, respectively. Adsorption kinetic data illustrated that the process followed the PSO model. Reusability and desorption studies were performed for composite microbeads. Additionally, the thermodynamic studies were performed at 25, 35 and 45 °C. Considering all these results, it was seen that the FA-SA-20 composite had the highest adsorption capacity and the best desorption efficiency.

Abstract
Magnetic chitosan hydrogels are organic-inorganic composite material with the characteristics of both magnetic materials and natural polysaccharides. Due to its biocompatibility, low toxicity and biodegradability, chitosan, a natural polymer has been widely used for preparing magnetic hydrogels. The addition of magnetic nanoparticles to chitosan hydrogels not only improves their mechanical strength, but also endows them with magnetic thermal effects, targeting capabilities, magnetically-sensitive release characteristics, easy separation and recovery, thus enabling them to be used in various applications including drug delivery, magnetic resonance imaging, magnetothermal therapy, and adsorption of heavy metals and dyes. In this review, the physical and chemical crosslinking methods of chitosan hydrogels and the methods for binding magnetic nanoparticles in hydrogel networks are first introduced. Subsequently, the properties of magnetic chitosan hydrogels were summarized including mechanical properties, self-healing, pH responsiveness and properties in magnetic fields. Finally, the potential for further technological and applicative advancements of magnetic chitosan hydrogels is discussed.

Abstract
Cellulose nanofibers decorated with SiO2 nanoparticles (SiO2-CNF) were prepared by the extraction of cellulose nanofibers from Yucca leaves, followed by modification with SiO2 nanoparticles, and used as efficient materials for the removal of both anionic and cationic dyes from the aqueous solution. Prepared nanostructures were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction powder (XRD), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis. The adsorption capacity of the nanostructures was investigated for the removal of both cationic (Methylene Blue, MB, and Crystal Violet, CV) and anionic (Eriochrome Black-T, EB) dyes. The kinetics of adsorption were investigated using some well-known models, including intraparticular diffusion (IPD), pseudo-first-order (PFO), pseudo-second-order (PSO), and Elovich. The adsorption isotherms were also explored using the Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Redlich-Peterson models. The obtained results revealed that the adsorption processes follow PSO kinetic and Langmuir isotherm models. Thermodynamic parameters of the adsorption were measured at different temperatures, indicating the feasibility and spontaneity of the adsorption. The pH and salt effects on adsorption were also explored. Finally, according to the reusability tests, the prepared adsorbents showed high recoverability without considerable loss in adsorption efficiency after five repeated runs.

Abstract
Breast cancer is a major cause of death globally, accounting for around 13% of all deaths. Chemotherapy, the common treatment for cancer, can have side effects that lead to the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and an increase in oxidative stress in the body. Antioxidants are important for maintaining the health of cells and helping the immune system function properly. They play a crucial role in balancing the body's internal environment. Using natural antioxidants is an alternative to mitigate the harmful effects of oxidative stress. However, around 80% of natural antioxidants have limited effectiveness when taken orally because they do not dissolve well in water or other solvents. This poor solubility affects their ability to be absorbed by the body and limits their bioavailability. One strategy that has been considered is to increase their water solubility to increase their oral bioavailability. Chitosan-based nanoparticle (CSNP) systems have been extensively explored due to their reliability and simpler synthesis routes. This review focuses on the various methods of chitosan-based nanoformulation for developing effective oral dosage forms for natural antioxidants based on the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics properties. Chitosan (CS) could be a model, because of its wide use in polymeric NPs research, thus providing a better understanding of the role of vehicles that carry natural antioxidants in maintaining the stability and enhancing the performance of cancer drugs.

Abstract
A chitosan/alginate/graphene oxide/UiO-67 (CS/SA/GO/UiO-67) amphoteric aerogel was synthesized successfully. A series of characterization experiments of CS/SA/GO/UiO-67 amphoteric aerogel was performed by SEM, EDS, FT-IR, TGA, XRD, BET, and zeta potential. The competitive adsorption properties of different adsorbents for complex dyes wastewater (MB and CR) at room temperature (298 K) were compared. Langmuir isotherm model predicted that the maximum adsorption quantity of CS/SA/GO/UiO-67 for CR and MB was 1091.61 and 1313.95 mg/g, respectively. The optimum pH values of CS/SA/GO/UiO-67 for the adsorption of CR and MB were 5 and 10, respectively. The kinetic analysis showed that the adsorption of MB and CR on CS/SA/GO/UiO-67 was more suitable for the pseudo-second-order and pseudo-first-order kinetic model, respectively. The isotherm study revealed that the adsorption of MB and CR was consistent with the Langmuir isotherm model. The thermodynamic study demonstrated that the adsorption process of MB and CR was exothermic and spontaneous. FT-IR analysis and zeta potential characterization experiments revealed that the adsorption mechanism of MB and CR on CS/SA/GO/UiO-67 depended on π-π bond, hydrogen bond, and electrostatic attraction. Repeatable experiments showed that the removal rates of MB and CR of CS/SA/GO/UiO-67 after six cycles of adsorption were 67.19 and 60.82 %, respectively.

Carrageenan (CG), a natural polymer, having multiple functional groups, provides a backbone for crosslinking with borax and incorporation of ZnO nanoparticles that formed borax-cross-linked κ-carrageenan (CG/Bx/ZnO) hydrogel which is used for efficient adsorption of norfloxacin from water. Surface morphology of as-synthesized hydrogel revealed the rough surface, which was determined by FESEM. Surface area of CG/Bx/ZnO hydrogel was found to be 22.90 m2/g with 3.41 nm pore radius. Systematic batch adsorption studies revealed that 99.4 % removal efficiency could be achieved at a dosage level of 20 mg/L of norfloxacin with 10 mg of hydrogel at pH of 4 in 8 h at room temperature. Experimentally optimized key parameters affecting the overall efficiency of adsorption matched well with the results assessed from ANOVA using Box-Behnken composite design model. The adsorption process was well fitted with the pseudo-second-order model and Langmuir isotherm with 1282.05 mg/g adsorption capacity. Thermodynamic study results show that adsorption is spontaneous and endothermic. The CG/Bx/ZnO hydrogel demonstrated excellent repeatability with minimal loss in norfloxacin adsorption for seven cycles.

Abstract
Water scarcity has been felt in many countries and will become a critical issue in the coming years. The release of toxic organic and inorganic contaminants from different anthropogenic activities, like mining, agriculture, industries, and domestic households, enters the natural waterbody and pollutes them. Keeping this in view in combating the environmental crises, removing pollutants from wastewater is one of the ongoing environmental challenges. Adsorption technology is an economical, fast, and efficient physicochemical method for removing both organic and inorganic pollutants, even at low concentrations. In the last decade, graphene and its composite materials have become the center of attraction for numerous applications, including wastewater treatment, due to the large surface area, highly active surface, and exclusive physicochemical properties, which make them potential adsorbents with unique physicochemical properties, like low density, chemical strength, structural variability, and the possibility of large-scale fabrications. This review article provides a thorough summary/critical appraisal of the published literature on graphene-, GO-, and rGO-based adsorbents for the removal of organic and inorganic pollutants from wastewater. The synthesis methods, experimental parameters, adsorption behaviors, isotherms, kinetics, thermodynamics, mechanisms, and the performance of the regeneration-desorption processes of these substances are scrutinized. Finally, the research challenges, limitations, and future research studies are also discussed. Certainly, this review article will benefit the research community by getting substantial information on suitable techniques for synthesizing such adsorbents and utilizing them in water treatment and designing water treatment systems.

Abstract
As their manufacturing and consumption have increased, pharmaceutical chemicals have increasingly been found in wastewater. It is necessary to look into more effective methods, including adsorption, because current therapies can't completely eliminate these micro contaminants. This investigation aims to assess the diclofenac sodium (DS) adsorption onto an Fe3O4@TAC@SA polymer in a static system. Through Box-Behnken design (BBD), system optimization was carried out, and the ideal conditions - adsorbent mass of 0.01 g and agitation speed of 200 rpm - were chosen. The adsorbent was created utilizing X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), allowing us to gain a comprehensive understanding of its properties. The analysis of the adsorption process revealed that the external mass transference was the primary rate-controlling step, and the Pseudo-Second-Order model demonstrated the best correlation to kinetic experimental results. An endothermic, spontaneous adsorption process took place. The removal capacity was 858 mg g-1, which is a respectable result when compared to other adsorbents that have been utilized in the past to remove DS. Ion exchange, π-π interactions, electrostatic pore filling and hydrogen bonding all play a role in the adsorption of DS on the Fe3O4@TAC@SA polymer. After careful examination of the adsorbent towards a true sample, it was determined to be highly efficient after three regenerative cycles.

Abstract
Fe3+ is the most abundant essential transition metal ion in the human body, plays a vital role in biological and environmental systems. Ethyl cellulose is one of the derivatives of cellulose. Herein, a novel ethylcellulose fluorescent probe EC-HPCB for detecting Fe3+ was prepared by grafting a flavonol derivative as both fluorophore and selective recognition group. The probe exhibited a highly specific "turn-off" fluorescence response to Fe3+, and the fluorescence color changed from yellow to colorless in the presence of Fe3+. The detection limit of EC-HPCB for Fe3+ was 2.65 × 10-7 mol/L, and the response time was as quick as 2 min. The detection mechanism was confirmed by 1H NMR and DFT calculations. Based on the good solubility and processability in organic solvent, EC-HPCB was made into coating and film with favorable fluorescent performances. Furthermore, EC-HPCB probe was successfully applied to monitor Fe3+ in real water samples, and the EC-HPCB-loaded filter paper provided a solid-state platform for detecting Fe3+ by naked eye and fluorescence method.

Abstract
In order to solve the problem of dye pollution of the water environment, a green macroparticle composite (CPAM-Dia/SA-La) as a bioadsorbent was prepared through a sodium alginate (SA) reaction with a polyacrylamide (CPAM)-modified diatomite (Dia) and further La(III) ion crosslinking polymerization, and characterized by various analytical methods. The important preparation and adsorption conditions of the composite were explored by the adsorption of Acid blue 113 (AB 113) and Congo red (CR) dyes. The dye adsorption efficiency was evaluated. The results show that CPAM-Dia/SA-La composite prepared under the optimized conditions displays superstrong adsorption capacities of 2907 and 1578 mg/g for AB 113 and CR and almost 100% removal efficiency within 60 min adsorption time at pH 2.0 and 298 K, and they decrease slightly with the pH increase to 10. The fitting of equilibrium data to the Langmuir model is the best and the adsorption kinetic processes can be expressed by the Pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The adsorption processes are both spontaneous and exothermic. The analysis results of FT-IR and XPS revealed that the superstrong adsorption of CPAM-Dia/SA-La for dyes. The composite adsorbed by the dye can be recycled. CPAM-Dia/SA-La is a promising biosorbent for dye wastewater treatment.

Abstract
Nowadays, pollution has become the main bottleneck towards sustainable technological development due to its detrimental implications in human and ecosystem health. Removal of pollutants from the surrounding environment is a hot research area worldwide; diverse technologies and materials are being continuously developed. To this end, bio-based composite hydrogels as sorbents have received extensive attention in recent years because of advantages such as high adsorptive capacity, controllable mechanical properties, cost effectiveness, and potential for upscaling in continuous flow installations. In this review, we aim to provide an up-to-date analysis of the literature on recent accomplishments in the design of polysaccharide-based composite hydrogels for removal of heavy metal ions, dyes, and oxyanions from wastewater. The correlation between the constituent polysaccharides (chitosan, cellulose, alginate, starch, pectin, pullulan, xanthan, salecan, etc.), engineered composition (presence of other organic and/or inorganic components), and sorption conditions on the removal performance of addressed pollutants will be carefully scrutinized. Particular attention will be paid to the sustainability aspects in the selected studies, particularly to composite selectivity and reusability, as well as to their use in fixed-bed columns and real wastewater applications.

Abstract
With the rapid development of the textile industry, a large amount of dyeing wastewater discharge has caused great harm to the ecological environment. In this work, a dual-network, composite hydrogel adsorbent with excellent mechanical properties, good reusability, and large adsorption capacity was prepared by introducing chitosan cross-linked polyvinylamine into the N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide cross-linked polyacrylic acid network. The dual cross-linking network gave the hydrogel excellent mechanical properties with maximum tensile stress and strain up to 1.9 MPa and 920 %. The adsorption capacity of methylene blue on hydrogel was up to 596.14 mg/g. In addition, the prepared hydrogel exhibited good reusability, and their adsorption efficiency remained above 85 % in five consecutive cycles. The adsorption behavior was well fitted by Pseudo-second-order kinetics and the Langmuir equation, indicating that the hydrogel was chemisorbed to the dye as a monolayer. The adsorption mechanism analysis showed that the electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonding between the functional groups of the hydrogels and methylene blue molecules contributed to the good adsorption capacity. Overall, the synthesized composite hydrogels could be used as an efficient adsorbent for the removal of methylene blue dye, particularly from textile industry wastewater.

Abstract
Photo-treatment of water is a promising environmentally friendly process that provides clean water and makes wastewater reusable in industry. Thus, efforts toward finding highly efficient photocatalysts have gained a huge attention to remove the organic contaminants in water. Quantum dots (QDs) are extensively utilized for photocatalytic remediation regarding their prominent optical, electrical, and chemical properties. Herein, we report the highly efficient and environmentally friendly synthesis of Co3O4-QDs-based graphene quantum dots (GQDs) and infinite coordination polymer comprising Zn nodes (Zn-ICP) nanocomposites as active and robust photocatalysts for photo-assisted water treatment. The pristine Co3O4-QDs, GQDs, and Zn-ICP showed lower activity under visible light. However, after functionalization of GQDs and Zn-ICP with Co3O4-QDs, the activity increased, and more photocatalytic efficiency was achieved. For instance, Zn-ICP, GQDs, Co3O4-QDs, Co3O4-QDs/Zn-ICP, and Co3O4-QDs/GQD degraded 21, 19, 52, 73, and 83% of rhodamine B (RhB) and 34, 46, 50, 73, and 76% of methylene blue (MB) after 60 min. The high photocatalytic efficiency was ascribed to the conjugation of Co3O4-QDs with GQDs and Zn-ICP which causes efficient absorption of visible light. The existence of Co3O4-QDs was found to be essential not only for effective charge separation but also widening the region of light absorption followed by increase in photocatalytic performances. Charge separation in photocatalytic reactions, energy levels of nanocomposites, and mechanism of the photocatalytic process were investigated by photoluminescence spectra (PL), Mott-Schottky, electrochemical impedance (EIS), and diffuse reflectance UV-Vis spectroscopy (DRS).

Abstract
Overuse of organic dyes has caused serious threats to the ecosystem and human health. However, the development of high-efficient, environmentally friendly, selective, and degradable cationic dye adsorbents remains a huge challenge. In this work, a novel Fe3O4nanoparticles doped silk fibroin-polyacrylamide magnetic hybrid hydrogel (Fe3O4@SF-PAAM) was successfully fabricated by combining free radical polymerization to prepare hydrogels andin situco-precipitation to prepare nanoparticles. The obtained Fe3O4@SF-PAAM hydrogel shows strong magnetic performance with saturated magnetic of 10.2 emu mg-1and excellent swelling properties with a swelling ratio of 55867%. In addition, Fe3O4@SF-PAAM can adsorb cationic dyes such as methylene blue (MB), crystal violet, and Rhodamine B, but has no adsorption effect on anionic dyes such as methyl orange, congo red, and carmine, indicating that Fe3O4@SF-PAAM has good selective adsorption properties for cationic dyes. Interestingly, the adsorption capacity of Fe3O4@SF-PAAM was approached 2025 mg g-1for MB (MB, a typical cation dye) at 25 °C and neutral. Meanwhile, the hybrid hydrogel is reusable, the removal rate for MB is still over 90% after the five adsorption-desorption cycles. The fabricated magnetic hybrid hydrogel is a kind of a highly-efficiency and eco-friendly adsorbent and presents great potential applications in water purification and environmental protection.

Abstract
Chemical modification of a biopolymer offers a simple strategy to realize new materials with added benefits. In this paper, meso-tetrakis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl) porphyrinto) zinc(II) supported sodium alginate gel beads were successfully prepared, characterized, and used for the removal of a cationic dye from aqueous solution. The chemical structure of the prepared composite beads was confirmed by FT-IR, SEM, XRD and TGA/DTG techniques. Analytical data suggested that the sodium alginate beads and meso-tetrakis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl) porphyrinto) zinc(II) complex interacted via non-covalent interaction (H-bonding) mode. The morphological micrographs showed spherical and smooth composite beads. The crosslinking of hydroxyl and carboxylate groups of the biopolymer with calcium ions and the incorporation of meso-tetrakis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl) porphyrinto) zinc(II) into alginate matrix resulted in a small decrease of residual mass. The maximum adsorption capacities of methylene blue, at 20 °C, were found to be 52.3 mg/g and 34.8 mg/g for sodium alginate composite beads (3%) and plain sodium alginate beads, respectively. The adsorption process followed Freundlich isotherm and pseudo second order kinetics. The thermodynamic study displayed an exothermic and non-spontaneous process.
