Abstract
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play an important role in the development of vascular remodeling in essential hypertension (EH) by mediating the effects of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) on the vascular system. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of murine cytomegalovirus (MCMV) infection on blood pressure and vascular function in mice, in order to elucidate the role of miR‑1929‑3p in this process. For model development, 7‑month‑old C57BL/6J mice were infected with the Smith strain of MCMV, and MCMV DNA, IgG and IgM were detected. Subsequently, blood pressure was measured via the carotid artery, and the morphological changes of the aorta were evaluated by hematoxylin and eosin and Masson's trichrome staining. miR‑1929‑3p transfection was performed using an adeno‑associated virus packaged vector and the changes in vascular structure were then observed. The levels of nitric oxide (NO) and endothelial NO synthase were also assessed with colorimetry. Vascular remodeling and expression of NLRP3 inflammasome pathway‑related proteins were detected by immunohistochemistry and western blotting. Endothelin‑1 (ET‑1), interleukin (IL)‑1β and IL‑18 were assayed by ELISA. The results revealed that MCMV infection increased the blood pressure, promoted vascular remodeling, caused endothelial cell injury, and downregulated miR‑1929‑3p. However, these effects were alleviated by miR‑1929‑3p overexpression, which downregulated endothelin A receptor (Ednra) and NLRP3 inflammasome, as well as endothelial injury‑ and vascular remodeling‑related genes. Taken together, the findings of the present study indicated that overexpression of miR‑1929‑3p may improve MCMV‑induced vascular remodeling, possibly via the deactivation of the NLRP3 inflammasome by ET‑1/Ednra.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Arterial hypertension is considered a chronic medical problem and also a challenging condition. The present study aimed to compare the effects of motivational interviewing and teach-back on people with hypertension. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this clinical trial conducted in Yasuj in 2018 a total of 81 patients with essential hypertension were selected in terms of the inclusion criteria. Then, they were randomly divided into three groups: teach-back (Group 1), motivational interviewing (Group 2), and control (Group 3). Three teach-back sessions were held for the teach-back group, five sessions of motivational interviewing for the motivational interviewing group, and the routine care was provided for the control group. In addition, data were collected by the demographic form and scale of Adherence to Systemic Hypertension Treatment, which were completed by participants of all three groups at baseline and also two months from the intervention. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21 by applying descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, chi-squared test, Fisher's exact test, and Bonferroni test. FINDINGS Two months from the interventions, in Group 1, the score of adherence to the hypertension treatment regimen significantly increased by 816.38 points compared to the control group, in Group 2 by 1228.9 points compared to the control group, and in Group 2 by 412.6 points compared to Group 1 (p >0.05). CONCLUSION Both teach-back and motivational interviewing increased the adherence to the hypertension treatment regimen; however, motivational interviewing was more effective compared to teach-back in boosting adherence to the hypertension treatment regimen.

Five-year weight changes associate with blood pressure alterations independent of changes in serum insulin. J Hypertens 2016; 32:2231-7; discussion 2237. Abstract
OBJECTIVE In overweight-related hypertension, the effect of weight changes on blood pressure (BP) is believed to be mediated by insulin. To test this hypothesis, we studied 5-year changes in weight, BP, and insulin in a general population of Danish adults (n = 3443; mean age 45.7 ± 7.6 years). METHODS We assessed the glucose-insulin metabolism by a standard oral glucose tolerance test. We divided the antihypertensive and antidiabetic medication-free participants into three groups: weight loss (n = 515), weight stable (n = 1778), and weight gain (n = 1150). RESULTS Losing on average 6.5 kg body weight, the weight loss group experienced a 28.2% reduction [(95% confidence interval [CI] -31 to -25); P < 0.001] in fasting insulin and a 23.9% reduction [(95% CI -28 to -19); P < 0.001] in 2-h insulin. Gaining on average 6.4 kg, the weight gain group experienced a 12.5% increase [(95% CI 9 to 16); P < 0.001] in fasting insulin and 32.8% increase [(95% CI 28 to 38); P < 0.001] in 2-h insulin. Using linear regression adjusting for differences in sex, age, family history of hypertension, baseline BMI, SBP and DBP, lifestyle risk factors, and their 5-year changes, weight loss was associated with a decrease in SBP of -1.8 mmHg (95% CI -2.8 to -0.7), whereas weight gain with an increase in SBP of 1.9 mmHg (95% CI 1.2 to 2.6), both with P less than 0.001. Adding fasting insulin, 2-h insulin, Δfasting insulin, and Δ2-h insulin only marginally attenuated the association, and furthermore, none of the insulin variables was significantly associated with SBP or DBP (P ≥ 0.08). The results for changes in DBP were similar to SBP. CONCLUSION Five-year weight changes associate with BP alterations independent of the insulin changes.

Abstract
The studies investigating the effects of green tea on blood pressure (BP) have generated inconsistent results. The aim of this study is to quantitatively evaluate the effects of green tea on BP control. PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library (updated to March 2014) were searched for randomized controlled trials evaluating the effects of green tea on BP. Pooled effect of green tea consumption on BP was evaluated using fixed-effects or random-effects model. Thirteen trials comprising a total of 1,367 subjects were included in the current meta-analysis. The overall outcome of the meta-analysis suggested that green tea consumption significantly decrease systolic blood pressure (SBP) level by −1.98 mmHg (95% CI: −2.94, −1.01 mmHg; P < 0.001). Compared with the control group, green tea also showed a significant lowering effect on diastolic blood pressure (DBP) in treatment group (−1.92 mmHg; 95% CI: −3.17, −0.68 mmHg; P = 0.002). Subgroup analyses further suggested that the positive effect of green tea polyphenols on BP was only showed in studies using a low-dose green tea polyphenol, with the long-term intervention duration or ruling out the confounding effects of caffeine. The meta-analysis suggested that green tea consumption had a favorable effect on decrease of BP.

Abstract
Hypertension (HTN) is a leading cause of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Lifestyle modification may be the preferential approach to prevent and control HTN. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a community intervention program, which focused on improving the HTN knowledge, diets and lifestyles in a rural Chinese area. The study was carried out in a rural area of the Hubei Province from May 2003 to April 2006. A total of 1632 participants were recruited. Of the participants, 826 from the town of Xiaoxita and 806 from the town of Fenxiang were assigned to the intervention group (group I) and to the control group (group C), respectively. Group I participants underwent an intervention that included HTN education and dietary and lifestyle guidance. Group C participants were not subjected to an intervention. The outcome measures included HTN knowledge, dietary and lifestyle behaviors, and prevalence, awareness, treatment and control rates of HTN. Along with the changes in HTN education (P<0.05), the participants in group I exhibited a significantly greater improvement in dietary habits and lifestyle behaviors, including reducing salty food intake (13.6%), fat intake (22.9%) and alcohol consumption (9.6%), after 3 years in comparison with those in group C (21.7, 31.9 and 18%, respectively). The prevalence of HTN was significantly lower in group I (22.5%) than in group C (36%) after the intervention strategies. The study showed that the implementation of a community intervention program involving HTN education and lifestyle modifications for rural residents is a powerful approach to reduce HTN prevalence and improve long-term health outcomes.

Abstract
Hypertension (HTN) has been proven to be associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. The purpose of the study was to examine risk factors for HTN and to develop a prediction model to estimate HTN risk for rural residents over the age of 35 years. This study was based on a cross-sectional survey of 3054 rural community residents (N=3054). Participants were divided into two groups: a training set (N1=2438) and a validation set (N2=616). The differences between the training set and validation set were not statistically significant. The predictors of HTN risk were identified from the training set using logistic regression analysis. Some risk factors were significantly associated with HTN, such as a high educational level (EL) (odds ratio (OR)=0.744), a predominantly sedentary job (OR=1.090), a positive family history of HTN (OR=1.614), being overweight (OR=1.525), dysarteriotony (OR=1.101), alcohol intake (OR=0.760), a salty diet (OR=1.146), more vegetable and fruit intake (OR=0.882), meat consumption (OR=0.787) and regular physical exercise (OR=0.866). We established the predictive models using logistic regression model (LRM) and artificial neural network (ANN). The accuracy of the models was compared by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) when the models were applied to the validation set. The ANN model (area under the curve (AUC)=0.900+/-0.014) proved better than the LRM (AUC=0.732+/-0.026) in terms of evaluating the HTN risk because it had a larger area under the ROC curve.
