Abstract
Introduction: This study explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the diagnosis of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) in Lower Silesia, Poland, comparing pre-pandemic, pandemic, and post-pandemic periods. It investigates how different medical facilities adapted to the pandemic's challenges and the subsequent implications for cancer diagnosis. Methods: Data from histopathology and cytology laboratories were analyzed, focusing on BCC diagnoses from 2018 to 2022. This study included various medical centers categorized by size and source of implementation. Statistical analyses were conducted to compare diagnoses before, during, and after the pandemic. Results: During the initial wave of the pandemic, there was a significant reduction in newly diagnosed BCC cases, followed by a surge post-pandemic. Larger medical centers adapted more effectively, while district hospitals faced challenges. Private practices maintained stable diagnosis rates. The increase in diagnoses post-pandemic suggests a backlog of undiagnosed cases during the pandemic. Discussion: Challenges in accessing healthcare during the pandemic led to delayed cancer diagnoses. Larger medical centers were better equipped to handle the crisis, while district hospitals struggled. Private practices maintained stability, possibly due to pre-scheduled appointments. Recommendations include public education on symptom recognition and standardizing histopathological evaluation protocols. Conclusions: Despite data limitations, this study provides valuable insights into the pandemic's impact on cancer diagnosis, highlighting the need for proactive measures in future health crises to ensure timely detection and treatment of cancer cases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In recent years, teledermatology has rapidly emerged as a healthcare delivery method with potential implications for managing chronic inflammatory dermatoses like atopic dermatitis (AD). OBJECTIVES This study assesses the utility of telemedicine in the management of AD by comparing virtual care with traditional in-office visits with the aim of identifying differences in clinical outcomes between these 2 healthcare delivery modalities. METHODS Patients of all ages with AD were recruited from 2 dermatology practices. Consecutive patients presenting to the clinics who met the inclusion criteria were invited to enrol in the study. Those who consented to participate were randomly assigned to the virtual or in-person arm of the study, with the opportunity to decline care in either study arm. The inclusion criteria required participants to have a confirmed diagnosis of AD. Exclusion criteria included significant comorbidity that might affect the course of treatment, inaccessibility to teleconsults such as not having a camera for video conferences, and self-declared limitations in operating Zoom. Patients were assessed at baseline (week 0), 4 to 6 weeks, and 8 to 12 weeks using 6 efficacy parameters. RESULTS In the virtual group, all 6 dermatological measures suggested improved outcomes. Average Body Surface Area scores decreased (β = -.07, 95% CI = -0.1, -0.3) over the course of follow-up. Virtual care patients had 80% lower odds of moderate-to-severe uncontrolled disease (OR = 0.2; 95% CI = 0.06, 0.5) and pruritus (OR = 0.2, 95% CI = 0.05, 0.7) over time. CONCLUSIONS This study supports teledermatology as a feasible and effective option for providing follow-up care for atopic dermatitis patients of various demographic standings.

Abstract
Syphilis is characterized by a wide range of variable clinical symptoms; therefore, it is often referred to as "The Great Imitator". Here, we report the case of a 69-year-old hepatitis-C-positive MSM patient, who was admitted to our clinic due to a solitary firm painless erythematous maculopapular lesion with a central crater-like crust on the upper right thigh that occurred two months prior. The dermoscopy showed an erythematous, copper-colored, oval lesion with diffuse monomorphic dotted and glomerular vessels, central crust, and circular scaling (Biett's sign). The histological findings ruled out neoplasia and described a plasma cell infiltrate and endothelial swelling. Finally, the combination of the dermoscopic image, histological findings and the additionally acquired knowledge about the sexual history of the patient at the second visit led to the diagnosis, which was then confirmed with serological tests. Dermoscopy may become a supportive tool to facilitate the recognition of secondary syphilis; however, the reporting of these atypical cases is crucial to highlight the many faces of the disease so that clinicians consider syphilis as part of the differential diagnosis of non-specific lesions.

Abstract
In general, the world population interest has increased for maintaining youthfulness and having better appearance since this leads to a better mental wellbeing and self-estimate. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has revolutionized every field of medicine. As every specialty has been affected by limitations caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), this branch of medicine has also needed certain precautions for safer practice in the COVID era. With the global vaccination program against COVID-19, reports of some cutaneous reactions in patients have been undergone various esthetic procedures including filler or botox injection would be increasingly demonstrated. Although the end of pandemic was announced, the necessity of continuing COVID vaccination in future mandates gathering data regarding safety of vaccines. Herein, we presented a comprehensive review on various aspects of association between esthetic medicine or cosmetic dermatology and COVID-19.

Abstract
The COVID-19 outbreak has placed substantial pressure on the medical systems worldwide. This study aimed to investigate the influence of the prepandemic vs. pandemic period on the activity of the Vascular Surgery Unit of a large emergency hospital in Eastern Europe. We performed a retrospective review of the vascular surgery cases admitted, comparing the statistics from the two time periods. We examined data of a total of 1,693 patients over the two periods. We report a 34.51% decrease in the surgical procedures performed during the pandemic period, with a disproportionate 80.6% decrease in the number of cases admitted with a diagnosis of venous insufficiency diagnosis and an increase of 67.21% in the number of patients admitted with acute arterial ischemia. Furthermore, individuals not classed as emergencies were delayed or denied surgical care. The number of nonurgent procedures conducted by our Vascular Surgery Unit decreased significantly, whereas the number of emergency surgeries increased. COVID-19′s effect is projected to have a long-term impact on how surgical treatments are provided in Romania.

Abstract
Abstract
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, has become a major public exigency of international concern. The COVID-19 epidemic has spread rapidly around the world, profoundly impacting people's lives. Patients are among those most affected by the pandemic. COVID-19 has adversely affected health-care systems, and the effects are long-lasting and devastating. Most medical institutions in the impacted countries and regions have been imbued with COVID-19 cases, both confirmed and suspected, leading to an overburdened health-care workforce like never before. While most of the critical situations involved internal medicine departments, such as infectious diseases, and intensive care units, other specialties, including dermatology, have also been profoundly affected by this pandemic. Dermatoepidemiology, the application of epidemiological methods to dermatology practice, is an important emerging discipline in dermatology. In this review, we discussed the influence of the COVID-19 epidemic on dermatology practice, as well as the application of public health strategies in dermatology. These findings from genetic epidemiological research, clinical trial networks, and pharmacovigilance research suggested that further research in dermatology requires collaborative studies across different fields, institutions, and countries. To solve the highly complex unsolved problems that we face, dermatologists and epidemiologists should be dynamic team members with multiple approach skills.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The rapid adoption of digital skin imaging applications has increased the utilization of smartphone-acquired images in dermatology. While this has enormous potential for scaling the assessment of concerning skin lesions, the insufficient quality of many consumer/patient-taken images can undermine clinical accuracy and potentially harm patients due to lack of diagnostic interpretability. We aim to characterize the current state of digital skin imaging applications and comprehensively assess how image acquisition features address image quality. MATERIALS AND METHODS Publicly discoverable mobile, web, and desktop-based skin imaging applications, identified through keyword searches in mobile app stores, Google Search queries, previous teledermatology studies, and expert recommendations were independently assessed by three reviewers. Applications were categorized by primary audience (consumer-facing, nonhospital-based practice, or enterprise/health system), function (education, store-and-forward teledermatology, live-interactive teledermatology, electronic medical record adjunct/clinical imaging storage, or clinical triage), in-app connection to a healthcare provider (yes or no), and user type (patient, provider, or both). RESULTS Just over half (57%) of 191 included skin imaging applications had at least one of 14 image acquisition technique features. Those that were consumer-facing, intended for educational use, and designed for both patient and physician users had significantly greater feature richness (p < 0.05). The most common feature was the inclusion of text-based imaging tips, followed by the requirement to submit multiple images and body area matching. CONCLUSION Very few skin imaging applications included more than one image acquisition technique feature. Feature richness varied significantly by audience, function, and user categories. Users of digital dermatology tools should consider which applications have standardized features that improve image quality.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Real-world evidence has demonstrated the effectiveness of secukinumab in the treatment of psoriasis; however, limited data are available on patient profiles of US secukinumab initiators over time and clinical outcomes in biologic-naive patients. This study describes clinical characteristics of secukinumab initiators by year, and the clinical outcomes in patients after 6- and/or 12-month follow-up visits, stratified by prior biologic use. METHODS This observational study included patients enrolled in the CorEvitas (formerly Corrona) Psoriasis Registry. Analyses were conducted in two patient cohorts: (1) all secukinumab initiators, stratified by year, and (2) those who initiated and maintained secukinumab through a 6- and/or 12-month follow-up visit. For all secukinumab initiators, patient characteristics at initiation were described per calendar year; in initiators with follow-up visits, mean (SD) differences in percentage affected body surface area (BSA), five-point Investigator's Global Assessment (IGA), and Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) scores between baseline and follow-up visits were calculated. Analyses were conducted separately for biologic-naive and biologic-experienced patients. RESULTS Between 2015 and 2020, the proportion of secukinumab initiators in the registry who were biologic-naive increased each year from 12.5% to 49.7%. Overall, 1518 patients initiated secukinumab at or after enrollment; 980 (64.6%) were biologic experienced, and 538 (35.4%) were biologic naive. At 6 months, biologic-experienced and biologic-naive patients reported mean (SD) decreases in BSA (-9.3 [14.5] versus -11.7 [16.6]), IGA (-1.4 [1.3] versus -1.7 [1.4]), and PASI (-5.2 [6.6] versus -6.7 [7.8]). The proportion of patients with an IGA score of clear/almost clear (0/1) increased over fivefold, irrespective of biologic experience. At 12 months, similar improvements were seen. CONCLUSIONS The proportion of biologic-naive secukinumab initiators increased over time. Biologic-naive patients demonstrated similar improvements in clinical outcomes compared with biologic-experienced patients, suggesting that secukinumab may be considered as a first-line therapy for psoriasis.

Abstract
Background: The evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic affected healthcare systems worldwide. The patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), diabetes, and cardiovascular disease were most affected and had an unfavorable outcome. Methods: We examined the activity of the Nephrology Department from Târgu-Mureș County Emergency Hospital retrospectively, comparing two periods: June 2020–November 2021 (COVID-19 period) and June 2018–November 2019 (non-COVID-19 period). Results: In the COVID-19 period, there were fewer one-day hospitalizations registered, 77.27% more dialysis catheters were installed, and 43.75% more arteriovenous fistulas were performed. An overall increase in the number of patients requiring dialysis during the pandemic was recorded, as of the number of dialysis sessions performed. Moreover, we observed a statistically significant increase in the number of dialysis sessions per patient and a statistically significant increase in the number of hospitalization days in the pandemic interval. Acute kidney injury (AKI) and urosepsis were the diagnoses that increased the most among in-patients during the pandemic, while all other nephrology diagnoses decreased. Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated kidney pathology and worsened the outcomes of nephrology patients in our center. The number of chronic and patient’s access to one-day hospitalization decreased in order to minimalize the exposure and the risk of infection. In contrast, the need for emergency dialysis increased significantly.

Abstract
Background: After the outbreak of the corona virus disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic, teledermatology was implemented in the Hungarian public healthcare system for the first time. Our objective was to assess aggregated diagnostic agreements and to determine the effectiveness of an asynchronous teledermatology system for skin cancer screening. Methods: This retrospective single-center study included cases submitted for teledermatology consultation during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Follow-up of the patients was performed to collect the results of any subsequent personal examination. Results: 749 patients with 779 lesions were involved. 15 malignant melanomas (9.9%), 78 basal cell carcinomas (51.3%), 21 squamous cell carcinomas (13.8%), 7 other malignancies (4.6%) and 31 actinic keratoses (20.4%) were confirmed. 87 malignancies were diagnosed in the high-urgency group (42.2%), 49 malignancies in the moderate-urgency group (21.6%) and 16 malignancies in the low-urgency group (4.6%) (p < 0.0001). Agreement of malignancies was substantial for primary (86.3%; κ = 0.647) and aggregated diagnoses (85.3%; κ = 0.644). Agreement of total lesions was also substantial for primary (81.2%; κ = 0.769) and aggregated diagnoses (87.9%; κ = 0.754). Conclusions: Our findings showed that asynchronous teledermatology using a mobile phone application served as an accurate skin cancer screening system during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract
AIMS The enormous spread of the novel Corona virus disease (COVID-19) represents a challenge to dermatological practice. Accumulating evidence has suggested a possible role of teledermatology in facing this challenge. In this article, we aimed to give a general overview of teledermatology in terms of models of practice, modes of delivery, advantages, limitations, ethical considerations and legislative challenges as well as discussing, using examples from literature, how dermatological practice can benefit from teledermatology during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION Teledermatology could be an accessible, accurate and cost-effective substitute for conventional face-to-face dermatological consultations during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, teledermatology practice needs updated legislation and guidelines. More efforts should be done to encourage dermatologists, especially in underserved communities, to provide teledermatology services. Ethical issues and data security related to teledermatology have to be considered.

Abstract
The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on dermatology practice cannot be overstated. At its peak, the pandemic resulted in the temporary closure of ambulatory sites as resources were reallocated towards pandemic response efforts. Many outpatient clinics have since reopened and are beginning to experience a semblance of pre-pandemic routine, albeit with restrictions in place. We provide an overview of how COVID-19 has affected dermatology practice globally beginning with the rise of teledermatology. A summary of expert recommendations that shape the "new normal" in various domains of dermatology practice, namely, dermatology consultation, procedural dermatology, and phototherapy, is also provided.

Abstract
The first wave of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic had an enormous impact on health‐care services, including on care provision for children with atopic dermatitis (AD). We investigated the impact of COVID‐19 on the care for children with moderate to severe AD at our tertiary outpatient clinic and examined satisfaction with care. We reviewed outpatient records, comparing total number and types of consultations during the first COVID‐19 wave (March until July 2020) with the corresponding months of 2019 and 2018. In addition, we conducted a questionnaire‐based study investigating the impact of COVID‐19 on clinical and psychological symptoms, and satisfaction with care. A total number of 913 consultations (466 individual children) were conducted during the first COVID‐19 wave in 2020, while 698 (391 individual children) and 591 consultations (356 individual children) were conducted in 2019 and 2018. The proportion of remote consultations was higher (56.2%) compared to 14.0% in 2019 and 12.7% in 2018. Worsening of AD was reported by 9.7% of caretakers. Overall satisfaction with provided care was high (8.6; interquartile range [IQR] = 7.3–10.0). Caretakers receiving face‐to‐face consultation were significantly (p = 0.026) more satisfied (9.0; IQR = 8.0–10.0) than caretakers receiving remote consultation (7.9; IQR = 7.0–9.5). The COVID‐19 pandemic had an unprecedented impact on care provision for children with AD, particularly on the number of remote consultations. Overall satisfaction with care was high. The impact of COVID‐19 on disease severity remained limited. Remote consultations seem to be a useful tool that can be put into practice during the COVID‐19 pandemic.

Abstract
The care for patients infected with COVID-19 requires a team approach, and dermatologists may collaborate with other specialties, especially infectious disease (ID) medicine and obstetrics and gynecology (ObGyn), at every stage of the infection process. A broad spectrum of cutaneous manifestations may occur early in COVID-19 infection, making appropriate dermatologic identification critical for an early diagnosis. There is prognostic value in appropriately identifying different types of COVID-19–associated skin manifestations, which have been linked to disease severity. Such observations emanated from dermatology research, especially large series and international registries of cutaneous manifestations relating to COVID-19, and impact COVID-19 care provided by most health care providers. Also, research based on international registries of skin reactions from the COVID-19 vaccines has an impact across disciplines. An increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19 is encountered during pregnancy, and dermatologists’ role is to urge ObGyn and other clinicians to monitor and educate pregnant patients about the potential for eruptions as a manifestation of COVID-19. ID and ObGyn experts indicate that teledermatology enhanced the interaction among health care providers and improved COVID-19 care. More than 40% of all dermatology consultations at a tertiary care hospital were done via teledermatology. Future collaborative research involving dermatology and specialties, such as ID and ObGyn, could help delineate guidelines for dermatology consultations in patients infected with COVID-19 and determine cases appropriate for teledermatology.

Abstract
Purpose of Review The use of teledermatology has been evolving slowly for the delivery of health care to remote and underserved populations. Improving technology and the recent COVID-19 pandemic have hastened its use internationally. Recent Findings Some barriers to the use of teledermatology have fallen considerably in the last year. Summary Teledermatology use has increased significantly in recent years in both government-sponsored and private health care systems and individual practices. There are no recognized international practice guidelines and variable use within countries. Many barriers remain to increasing the use of teledermatology.
