Abstract
The post-stroke period is associated with a lot of sequelae, including depression, decreased quality of life, and decline of cognitive function. Apart from the pharmacotherapy, it is also important to find a non-pharmacological treatment to relieve the sequelae. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) might be a potential candidate, which can be clarified by a systematic review and meta-analysis. The eligible criteria of enrolled studies in the systematic review and meta-analysis were the randomised clinical trials (RCTs) using CBT to treat post-stroke depression, or with the focus on quality of life or cognitive function in the post-stroke period. The endpoint scores of depression, quality of life, and cognitive function scales were the targeted outcome for the final meta-analysis in the random effects model. Ten RCTs with 432 post-stroke patients receiving CBT and 385 controls were included. The meta-analysis results showed significant improvements in depression severity and quality of life. However, no significant difference between CBT and control groups was found in cognitive function. In addition, significant heterogeneity was derived from the meta-analysis. According to the meta-analysis results, CBT might be beneficial for relieving depression severity and improving quality of life. However, cognitive function might not be influenced by CBT. Further studies with a more consistent CBT design with greater sample sizes should be warranted to clarify and confirm the treatment effects of CBT for post-stroke depression and quality of life.

Abstract
Major depressive disorder (MDD) is associated with significant cognitive deficits during the acute and remitted stages. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to examine the course of cognitive function whilst considering demographic, treatment, or clinical features of MDD that could moderate the extent of cognitive change. Databases were searched to identify studies that reported on cognitive function in MDD with a ≥12-week test-retest interval. Relevant studies were pooled using random effects modelling to generate an inverse-variance, weighted, mean effect size estimate (Hedges' g) of cognitive change for each cognitive variable and for an overall composite cognitive domain. Of 6898 records, 99 eligible studies were identified from which 69 were meta-analysed, consisting of 4639 MDD patients (agemean = 40.25 years, female% = 64.62%) across 44 cognitive variables. In over 95% of cognitive variables, improvements were either of non-significant, negligible, or of a small magnitude, and when compared to matched healthy controls, the possibility of practice effects could not be precluded. Depressive symptom improvement and the number of previous depressive episodes moderated the extent of cognitive change, demonstrating state- and scar-like features for one-quarter of the cognitive domains. Further longitudinal studies are required to elucidate the MDD cognitive trajectory from initial onset. Findings nonetheless suggest that following pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment, cognitive change in MDD is typically small, but the capacity for change may be less with episode recurrence. Targeting cognition early in the course of illness may facilitate better prognosis and support a more complete functional recovery.

Abstract
BACKGROUND For many patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) adequate treatment remains elusive. Neuroimaging techniques received attention for their potential use in guiding and predicting response, but were rarely investigated in real-world psychiatric settings. AIMS To identify structural and functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) biomarkers associated with antidepressant response in a real-world clinical sample. METHODS We studied 100 MDD inpatients admitted to our psychiatric ward, treated with various antidepressants upon clinical need. Hamilton Depression Rating Scale percentage decrease from admission to discharge was used as a measure of response. All patients underwent 3.0 T MRI scanning. Grey matter (GM) volumes were investigated both in a voxel-based morphometry (VBM), and in a regions of interest (ROI) analysis. In a subsample of patients, functional resting-state connectivity patterns were also explored. RESULTS In the VBM analysis, worse response was associated to lower GM volumes in two clusters, encompassing the left hippocampus and parahippocampal gyrus, and the right superior and middle temporal gyrus. Investigating ROIs, lower bilateral hippocampi and amygdalae volumes predicted worse treatment outcomes. Functional connectivity in the right temporal and parahippocampal gyrus was also associated to response. CONCLUSION Our results expand existing literature on the relationship between the structure and function of several brain regions and treatment response in MDD. While we are still far from routine use of MRI biomarkers in clinical practice, we confirm a possible role of these techniques in guiding treatment choices and predicting their efficacy.

Abstract
A growing number of studies have applied Episodic Future Thinking (EFT) to cognitive interventions in specific population. However, The variability in study populations may lead to inconsistent results and present challenges in the optimal intervention approach and scope of adaptation. This scoping review aimed to identify and describe specific methods, considerations, and results collected and reported in randomized controlled trials of EFT applied to diet and weight management in people with overweight or obesity. A systematic scoping review was conducted by published guidelines for this review. We conducted a structured search of English-language articles in Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, ProQuest, and Cochrane, with the literature focusing on studies published up to December 28, 2022. After screening and full-text review, 16 studies were included. The studies included people of all ages with overweight or obesity, including women, children, and home-based EFT interventions. The vast majority of intervention studies screened participants for psychological characteristics, and the effects of EFT applied in people with overweight or obesity were somewhat significant, although there was some variation in the literature. Although the individual heterogeneity of studies makes the synthesis of results somewhat variable, it still demonstrates the breadth and accessibility of EFT interventions in people with overweight or obesity. The application of EFT to individualized interventions in people with overweight or obesity is a further complement and optimization of weight management through behavioral cognitive therapy.

Abstract
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a psychotherapy that challenges distorted cognitions; however, the neural mechanisms that underpin CBT remain unclear. Hence, we aimed to assess the treatment-related resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) changes in the brain regions associated with future thinking and the associations between rsFC changes and clinical improvements. Thirty-eight adult patients with MDD were randomly assigned with equal likelihood to receive 16-week individual CBT or talking control with a 12-month follow-up period. We evaluated the rsFC changes in the frontal regions, nucleus accumbens, amygdala, and limbic structures key to the depression pathophysiology and future thinking with 2 × 2 mixed ANOVA interaction analysis. Pearson's correlation analysis with Bonferroni's correction was also performed to examine the associations with clinical symptoms, such as depression severity and automatic thoughts in follow-up evaluations. Treatment-specific changes include enhancement in frontopolar connectivity with the nucleus accumbens. An increased rsFC was associated with lower negative automatic thoughts postoperatively, together with lower depressive symptoms and higher positive automatic thoughts at follow-up. Conclusively, rsFC changes in the fronto-limbic neural control circuit after CBT, particularly between the frontal pole and nucleus accumbens, may be clinically meaningful functional changes related to the depression recovery process.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pessimistic thinking about the future is one of the cardinal symptoms of major depression. Few studies have assessed changes in pessimistic thinking after undergoing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). A randomized clinical trial (RCT) was conducted with patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD) to determine whether receiving a course of CBT affects pessimistic future thinking using a future thinking task. METHODS Thirty-one patients with MDD were randomly assigned to either CBT (n = 16) or a talking control (TC) (n = 15) for a 16-week intervention. The main outcomes were the change in response time (RT) and the ratio of the responses for positive valence, measured by the future thinking task. Secondary outcomes included the GRID-Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, the Beck Depression Inventory-Second Edition (BDI-II), the Dysfunctional Attitude Scale (DAS), and the word fluency test (WFT). RESULTS Regarding the main outcomes, the CBT group showed reduced RT for the positive valence (within-group Cohen's d = 0.7, p = 0.012) and negative valence (within-group Cohen's d = 0.6, p = 0.03) in the distant future condition. The ratio of positive valence responses in both groups for all temporal conditions except for the distant past condition increased within group (distant future: CBT: Cohen's d = 0.5, p = 0.04; TC: Cohen's d = 0.8, p = 0.008; near future: CBT: Cohen's d = 1.0, p < 0.001; TC: Cohen's d = 1.1, p = 0.001; near past: CBT: Cohen's d = 0.8, p = 0.005; TC: Cohen's d = 1.0, p = 0.002). As for secondary outcomes, the CBT group showed greater improvement than the TC group regarding the need for social approval as measured by the DAS (p = 0.012). CONCLUSION Patients with MDD who received CBT showed a reduced RT for the positive and negative valence in the distant future condition. RT in the future thinking task for depressed patients may be a potential objective measure for the CBT treatment process. Because the present RCT is positioned as a pilot RCT, a confirmatory trial with a larger number of patients is warranted to elucidate the CBT treatment process that influences future thinking.
