Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence has established the prominent involvement of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep disturbance in major depressive disorder (MDD). However, the neural correlates of REM sleep in MDD and their clinical significance are less clear. METHODS Cross-sectional and longitudinal polysomnography and resting-state functional MRI data were collected from 131 MDD patients and 71 healthy controls to measure REM sleep and voxel-mirrored homotopic connectivity (VMHC). Correlation and mediation analyses were performed to examine the associations between REM sleep, VMHC, and clinical variables. Moreover, we conducted spatial correlations between the neural correlates of REM sleep and a multimodal collection of reference brain maps to facilitate genetic, structural and functional annotations. RESULTS MDD patients exhibited REM sleep abnormalities manifesting as higher REM sleep latency and lower REM sleep duration, which were correlated with decreased VMHC of the precentral gyrus and inferior parietal lobe and mediated their associations with more severe anxiety symptoms. Longitudinal data showed that VMHC increase of the inferior parietal lobe was related to improvement of depression symptoms in MDD patients. Spatial correlation analyses revealed that the neural correlates of REM sleep in MDD were linked to gene categories primarily involving cellular metabolic process, signal pathway, and ion channel activity as well as linked to cortical microstructure, metabolism, electrophysiology, and cannabinoid receptor. CONCLUSION These findings may add important context to the growing literature on the complex interplay between sleep and MDD, and more broadly may inform future treatment for depression via regulating sleep.

Abstract
47,XXX (Triple X syndrome) is a sex chromosome aneuploidy characterized by the presence of a supernumerary X chromosome in affected females and is associated with a variable cognitive, behavioral, and psychiatric phenotype. The effect of a supernumerary X chromosome in affected females on intracortical microstructure is currently unknown. Therefore, we conducted 7 Tesla structural MRI and compared T1 (ms), as a proxy for intracortical myelin (ICM), across laminae of 21 adult women with 47,XXX and 22 age-matched typically developing females using laminar analyses. Relationships between phenotypic traits and T1 values in 47,XXX were also investigated. Adults with 47,XXX showed higher bilateral T1 across supragranular laminae in the banks of the superior temporal sulcus, and in the right inferior temporal gyrus, suggesting decreases of ICM primarily within the temporal cortex in 47,XXX. Higher social functioning in 47,XXX was related to larger inferior temporal gyrus ICM content. Our findings indicate an effect of a supernumerary X chromosome in adult-aged women on ICM across supragranular laminae within the temporal cortex. These findings provide insight into the role of X chromosome dosage on ICM across laminae. Future research is warranted to further explore the functional significance of altered ICM across laminae in 47,XXX.

Abstract
BACKGROUND New daily persistent headache (NDPH) is a rare primary headache with unclear pathogenesis. Neuroimaging studies of NDPH are limited, and controversy still exists. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is commonly used to study the white matter. However, lacking specificity, the potential pathological mechanisms of white matter microstructural changes remain poorly understood. In addition, the intricacy of gray matter structures impedes the application of the DTI model. Here, we applied an advanced diffusion model of neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging (NODDI) to study the white matter and cortical gray matter microstructure in patients with NDPH. METHODS This study assessed brain microstructure, including 27 patients with NDPH, and matched 28 healthy controls (HCs) by NODDI. The differences between the two groups were assessed by tract-based spatial statistics (TBSS) and surface-based analysis (SBA), focusing on the NODDI metrics (neurite density index (NDI), orientation dispersion index (ODI), and isotropic volume fraction (ISOVF)). Furthermore, we performed Pearson's correlation analysis between the NODDI indicators and clinical characteristics. RESULTS Compared to HCs, patients with NDPH had a reduction of density and complexity in several fiber tracts. For robust results, the fiber tracts were defined as comprising more than 100 voxels, including bilateral inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus (IFOF), left superior longitudinal fasciculus (SLF) and inferior longitudinal fasciculus (ILF), as well as right corticospinal tract (CST). Moreover, the reduction of neurite density was uncovered in the left superior and middle frontal cortex, left precentral cortex, and right lateral orbitofrontal cortex and insula. There was no correlation between the NODDI metrics of these brain regions and clinical variables or scales of relevance after the Bonferroni correction. CONCLUSIONS Our research indicated that neurite loss was detected in both white matter and cortical gray matter of patients with NDPH.

Abstract
Crohn's disease is an acknowledged "brain-gut" disorder with unclear physiopathology. This study aims to identify potential neuroimaging biomarkers of Crohn's disease. Gray matter volume, cortical thickness, amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations, and regional homogeneity were selected as indices of interest and subjected to analyses using both activation likelihood estimation and seed-based d mapping with permutation of subject images. In comparison to healthy controls, Crohn's disease patients in remission exhibited decreased gray matter volume in the medial frontal gyrus and concurrently increased regional homogeneity. Furthermore, gray matter volume reduction in the medial superior frontal gyrus and anterior cingulate/paracingulate gyri, decreased regional homogeneity in the median cingulate/paracingulate gyri, superior frontal gyrus, paracentral lobule, and insula were observed. The gray matter changes of medial frontal gyrus were confirmed through both methods: decreased gray matter volume of medial frontal gyrus and medial superior frontal gyrus were identified by activation likelihood estimation and seed-based d mapping with permutation of subject images, respectively. The meta-regression analyses showed a positive correlation between regional homogeneity alterations and patient age in the supplementary motor area and a negative correlation between gray matter volume changes and patients' anxiety scores in the medial superior frontal gyrus. These anomalies may be associated with clinical manifestations including abdominal pain, psychiatric disorders, and possibly reflective of compensatory mechanisms.
