Abstract
Natural copper oxygenases provide fundamental principles for catalytic oxidation with kinetically inert molecular oxygen, but it remains a marked challenge to mimic both their structure and function in an entity. Inspired by the CuA enzymatic sites, herein we report two new photoactive binuclear copper-iodine- and bisbenzimidazole-comodified coordination polymers to reproduce the natural oxo-functionalization repertoire in a unique photocatalytic pathway. Under light irradiation, the Cu-halide coordination polymers effectively reduce NHP esters and complete oxygen reduction activation via photoinduced electron transfer for the aerobic oxidative coupling of hydroquinone with terminal alkynes, affording hydroxyl-functionalized ketones with high efficiency and selectivity. This supramolecular approach to developing bioinspired artificial oxygenases that merge transition metal- and photocatalysis supplies a new way to fabricate distinctive photocatalysts with desirable catalytic performances and controllable precise active sites.

Abstract
Organic-polyoxometalate (POM) hybrids have recently attracted considerable interest because of their distinctive properties and wide-ranging applications. For the construction of organic-POM hybrids, porphyrins are promising building units owing to their optical properties and reactivity, including strong visible-light absorption and subsequent singlet-oxygen (1O2*) generation. However, the practical utilization of porphyrins as photocatalysts and photosensitizers is often hindered by their own degradation by 1O2*. Therefore, there is a substantial demand for the development of porphyrin-derived photocatalysts with both high efficiency and durability. Herein, we present a porphyrin-polyoxotungstate molecular hybrid featuring a face-to-face stacked porphyrin dimer (I) fastened by four lacunary polyoxotungstates. Hybrid I exhibited remarkable efficiency and durability in photocatalytic aerobic oxidation reactions, and the selective oxidation of various dienes, alkenes, sulfides, and amines proceeded using just 0.003 mol % of the catalyst. Mechanistic investigations suggested that the high activity of I stems from the efficient generation of 1O2*, resulting from the heavy-atom effect of POMs. Furthermore, despite its high efficiency in 1O2* generation compared to free porphyrins, I exhibited superior durability against 1O2*-induced degradation under photoirradiation.

Abstract
Singlet oxygen (1O2) mediated photo-oxidations are important reactions involved in numerous processes in chemical and biological sciences. While most of the current research works have aimed at improving the efficiencies of these transformations either by increasing 1O2 quantum yields or by enhancing its lifetime, we establish herein that immobilization of a molecular photosensitizer onto silica surfaces affords significant, substrate dependant, enhancement in the reactivity of 1O2. Probing a classical model reaction (oxidation of Anthracene-9, 10-dipropionic acid, ADPA or dimethylanthracene, DMA) with various spectrofluorimetric techniques, it is here proposed that an interaction between polar substrates and the silica surface is responsible for the observed phenomenon. This discovery could have a direct impact on the design of future photosensitized 1O2 processes in various applications ranging from organic photochemistry to photobiology.

Abstract
Photosensitization, a powerful oxidation reaction, offers significant potential for wastewater treatment in the context of industrial process water reuse. This environmentally friendly process can be crucial in reducing water consumption and industrial pollution. The ultimate goal is to complete process water reuse, creating a closed-loop system that preserves the inherent value of water resources. The photosensitized oxidation reaction hinges on three essential components: the photosensitizer, visible light, and oxygen. In this study, we assess the performance of three distinct materials-silica, chitosan, and spongin-as carrier materials for incorporating the phthalocyanine photosensitizer (ZnPcS4) in the heterogenous photosensitization process. Among the three materials under study, chitosan emerged as the standout performer in reactor hydrodynamic performance. In the photooxidation process, the photosensitizer ZnPcS4 exhibited notable efficacy, resulting in a significant reduction of approximately 20 to 30% in the remaining COD concentration of the cellar wastewater. Chitosan demonstrated exceptional hydrodynamic characteristics and displayed a favorable response to pH adjustments within the range of 8 to 10, outperforming the other two carrier materials. To further enhance the efficiency of continuous operation, exploring methods for mitigating photosensitizer bleaching within the reaction medium and investigating the impact of different pH values on the process optimization would be prudent.

Photo-Catalyzed α-Arylation of Enol Acetate Using Recyclable Silica-Supported Heteroleptic and Homoleptic Copper(I) Photosensitizers. Chemistry 2023; 29:e202301212. Abstract
Earth-abundant photosensitizers are highly sought after for light-mediated applications, such as photoredox catalysis, depollution and energy conversion schemes. Homoleptic and heteroleptic copper(I) complexes are promising candidates in this field, as copper is abundant and the corresponding complexes are easily obtained in smooth conditions. However, some heteroleptic copper(I) complexes suffer from low (photo)stability that leads to the gradual formation of the corresponding homoleptic complex. Such degradation pathways are detrimental, especially when recyclability is desired. This study reports a novel approach for the heterogenization of homoleptic and heteroleptic Cu complexes on silica nanoparticles. In both cases, the photophysical properties upon surface immobilization were only slightly affected. Excited-state quenching with aryl diazonium derivatives occurred efficiently (108 -1010 M-1 s-1 ) with heterogeneous and homogeneous photosensitizers. Moderate but almost identical yields were obtained for the α-arylation of enol acetate using the homoleptic complex in homogeneous or heterogeneous conditions. Importantly, the silica-supported photocatalysts were recycled with moderate loss in photoactivity over multiple experiments. Transient absorption spectroscopy confirmed that excited-state electron transfer occurred from the homogeneous and heterogeneous homoleptic copper(I) complexes to aryl diazonium derivatives, generating the corresponding copper(II) center that persisted for several hundreds of microseconds, compatible with photoredox catalysis applications.

Abstract
Synergistic catalysis is an efficient and powerful strategy for simultaneously activating reactants by multiple active sites to promote the efficiency of difficult and challenging catalytic reactions. Meanwhile, enzymes with multi-active-site synergistic catalytic properties possessing high efficiency and high selectivity have become the goal pursued in the field of catalytic chemistry in recent years. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), as an effective heterogeneous catalytic platform, that can integrate multiple active sites for synergistic catalysis like enzymatic systems have recently attracted interest. Herein, we report a doubly interpenetrated metal-organic framework with dual active sites, MnIII-porphyrin sites to directly activate molecular oxygen and fluoren-9-one sites to produce a hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) agent by the proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) process to simultaneously activate inert C(sp3)-H bonds for efficient inert C(sp3)-H bond oxidation under mild conditions. The bifunctional mixed-component MOF structure forced the two catalytic sites closer together to a more suitable distance, exhibiting high photocatalytic activity for inert C(sp3)-H bond oxidation with almost unique selectivity under mild conditions. The density functional theory (DFT) calculation of free energy during the whole catalytic process demonstrated that it is likely that the synergistic catalytic process occurred in the interframework to accelerate the catalytic reaction. The assembling mixed-component MOF for synergistic catalysis would be a prospective approach for the inert C(sp3)-H photoactivation and functionalization.

Abstract
Active species regulation is a key scientific issue that essentially determines the selectivity and activity of a photocatalyst. Herein, CuI -bridged tetrakis(4-ethynylphenyl)ethene aggregates (T4 EPE-Cu) with photo-regulated 1 O2 and O2 .- generation were demonstrated for selective photocatalytic aerobic oxidation. In this system, transient photovoltage combined with the density functional theory calculations confirmed that Cu-alkynyl was the main oxygen activation site. The adsorbed O2 tends to produce O2 .- because of the potential well effect of Cu-alkynyl under high-energy light excitation. But under low-energy light, O2 tends to produce 1 O2 via resonance energy transfer with Cu-alkynyl. For α-terpinene oxidation, the ratios of 1 O2 products to O2 .- products can be controlled from 1.3 (380 nm) to 10.7 (600 nm). Furthermore, T4 EPE-Cu exhibited ultrahigh photocatalytic performance for Glaser coupling and benzylamine oxidation, with a conversion and selectivity of over 99 %.

Abstract
Light-activated antimicrobial coatings are currently considered to be a promising approach for the prevention of nosocomial infections. In this work, we present a straightforward strategy for the deposition of a photoactive biocidal organic layer of zinc (tetraamino)phthalocyanine (ZnPcNH2) in an electrochemical oxidative process. The chemical structure and morphology of the resulting layer are widely characterized by microscopic and spectroscopic techniques, while its ability to photogenerate reactive oxygen species (ROS) is investigated in situ by UV–Vis spectroscopy with α-terpinene or 1,3-diphenylisobenzofuran as a chemical trap. It is shown that the ZnPcNH2 photosensitizer retained its photoactivity after immobilization, and that the reported light-activated coating exhibits promising antimicrobial properties towards Staphyloccocus aureus (S. aureus).

Abstract
BODIPY dyes have recently attracted attention as potential photosensitizers. In this work, commercial and novel photosensitizers (PSs) based on BODIPY chromophores (haloBODIPYs and orthogonal dimers strategically designed with intense bands in the blue, green or red region of the visible spectra and high singlet oxygen production) were covalently linked to mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) further functionalized with PEG and folic acid (FA). MSNs approximately 50 nm in size with different functional groups were synthesized to allow multiple alternatives of PS-PEG-FA decoration of their external surface. Different combinations varying the type of PS (commercial Rose Bengal, Thionine and Chlorine e6 or custom-made BODIPY-based), the linkage design, and the length of PEG are detailed. All the nanosystems were physicochemically characterized (morphology, diameter, size distribution and PS loaded amount) and photophysically studied (absorption capacity, fluorescence efficiency, and singlet oxygen production) in suspension. For the most promising PS-PEG-FA silica nanoplatforms, the biocompatibility in dark conditions and the phototoxicity under suitable irradiation wavelengths (blue, green, or red) at regulated light doses (10-15 J/cm2) were compared with PSs free in solution in HeLa cells in vitro.

A versatile heterogeneous photocatalyst: nanoporous gold powder modified with a zinc(II) phthalocyanine derivative for singlet oxygen [4 + 2] cycloadditions. Photochem Photobiol Sci 2021; 20:547-558. Abstract
Nanoporous gold was functionalized with a photosensitizer, a zinc(II) phthalocyanine derivative. Such systems are active for the generation of reactive singlet oxygen which can be used for photocatalytic oxidation reactions. This study aims to demonstrate the versatility of such an approach, in terms of substrates and the employed solvent, only possible for a truly heterogeneous catalytic system. The activity of the hybrid system was studied for [4 + 2] cycloadditions of three different types of dienes and a total of eight substrates in two organic solvents and once in water. The highest activity was measured for 1,3-diphenylisobenzofuran, which is also highest in terms of sensitivity for the reaction with 1O2. Trends in conversion could be anticipated based on reported values for the rate constant for the reaction of 1O2. In almost all cases, an amplification of the conversion by immobilization of the sensitizer onto nanoporous gold was observed. The limiting case was ergosterol, which was the largest of all substrates with a van-der-Waals radius of about 2.1 nm. Additional factors such as the limited lifetime of 1O2 in different solvents as well as the hampered diffusion of the substrates were identified.

Abstract
For many years, the research on conjugated polymers (CPs) has been mainly focused on their application in organic electronics. Recent works, however, show that due to the unique optical and photophysical properties of CPs, such as high absorption in UV–Vis or even near-infrared (NIR) region and efficient intra-/intermolecular energy transfer, which can be relatively easily optimized, CPs can be considered as an effective light-activated source of versatile and highly reactive singlet oxygen for medical or catalytic use. The aim of this short review is to present the novel possibilities that lie dormant in those exceptional polymers with the extended system of π-conjugated bonds.

Abstract
Compared with traditional metal-based photosensitizers, heterogeneous and organic photocatalysts with visible-light activity are more environmentally friendly and sustainable. The simultaneous introduction of electron-rich and electron-deficient units in donor-acceptor typed conjugated microporous polymer (CMP) photocatalysts can significantly enhance their visible-light harvesting and separation efficiency of photogenerated carriers. Here, two carbazole-based CMPs (CzBSe-CMP and CzBQn-CMP) were successfully constructed through a cost-effective process. They show inherent porosity with large Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area and excellent thermal and chemical stability. Their photoelectric properties, energy levels, optical band gaps, transient photocurrent response, and photocatalytic activity could be conveniently tailored through tuning the electron-deficient moiety in polymer networks. More importantly, CzBSe-CMP was found to be a superior solid photocatalyst for selective photo-oxidation of mustard gas simulant 2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfide into a nontoxic product by using molecular oxygen as a sustainable oxygen source under visible-light illumination. In addition, the obtained CMP-based photocatalysts also showed excellent recyclability and could be reutilized through adding more simulants or a simple separation procedure. The current contribution provides great application prospects for CMPs as metal-free, solid photocatalysts in organic transformation and environmental protection.

Abstract
The palladium catalyzed synthesis of 14-phenylbenzo[ f]tetraphene-9-carbonitrile derivatives as core polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) was achieved via an intramolecular annulation and decyanogenative C-H bond alkenylation strategy. A readily synthesized Knoevenagel condensation product of [1,1'-biphenyl]-2,2'-dicarbaldehyde with benzyl cyanide converted successfully into 14-phenylbenzo[ f]tetraphene-9-carbonitrile derivatives in excellent yields up to 94%. The transformation involves an intramolecular cascade C-C bond formation along with a C-H bond cleavage sequence.

Abstract
A modified Stöber method is used to synthesize spherical core-shell silica nanoparticles (NPs) with an external surface functionalized by amino groups and with an average size around 50 nm. Fluorescent dyes and photosensitizers of singlet oxygen were fixed, either separately or conjointly, respectively in the core or in the shell. Rhodamines were encapsulated in the core with relatively high fluorescence quantum yields (Φfl ≥ 0.3), allowing fluorescence tracking of the particles. Various photosensitizers of singlet oxygen (PS) were covalenty coupled to the shell, allowing singlet oxygen production. The stability of NP suspensions strongly deteriorated upon grafting the PS, affecting their apparent singlet oxygen quantum yields. Agglomeration of NPs depends both on the type and on the amount of grafted photosensitizer. New, lab-made, halogenated 4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacenes (BODIPY) grafted to the NPs achieved higher singlet oxygen quantum yields (ΦΔ ∼ 0.35-0.40) than Rose Bengal (RB) grafted NPs (ΦΔ ∼ 0.10-0.27). Finally, we combined both fluorescence and PS functions in the same NP, namely a rhodamine in the silica core and a BODIPY or RB grafted in the shell, achieving the performance Φfl ∼ 0.10-0.20, ΦΔ ∼ 0.16-0.25 with a single excitation wavelength. Thus, proper choice of the dyes, of their concentrations inside and on the NPs and the grafting method enables fine-tuning of singlet oxygen production and fluorescence emission.

Abstract
This review is the first to collate and summarize main data on named and unnamed rearrangement reactions of peroxides. It should be noted, that in the chemistry of peroxides two types of processes are considered under the term rearrangements. These are conventional rearrangements occurring with the retention of the molecular weight and transformations of one of the peroxide moieties after O-O-bond cleavage. Detailed information about the Baeyer-Villiger, Criegee, Hock, Kornblum-DeLaMare, Dakin, Elbs, Schenck, Smith, Wieland, and Story reactions is given. Unnamed rearrangements of organic peroxides and related processes are also analyzed. The rearrangements and related processes of important natural and synthetic peroxides are discussed separately.

Abstract
Natural sunlight offers a cost-efficient and sustainable energy source for photochemical reactions. In contrast to the lengthy and small-scale "flask in the sun" procedures of the past, modern solar concentrator systems nowadays significantly shorten reaction times and enable technical-scale operations. After a brief historical introduction, this review presents the most important solar reactor types and their successful application in preparative solar syntheses. The examples demonstrate that solar manufacturing of fine chemicals is technically feasible and environmentally sustainable. After over 100 years, Ciamician's prophetic vision of "the photochemistry of the future" as a clean and green manufacturing methodology has yet to be realized. At the same time, his warning "for nature is not in a hurry but mankind is" is still valid today. It is hoped that this review will lead to a renewed interest in this truly enlightening technology, that it will stimulate photochemists and photochemical engineers to "go back to the roots onto the roofs" and that it will ultimately result in industrial applications in the foreseeable future.
