Promotional effect of Mn-doping on the structure and performance of spinel ferrite microspheres for CO hydrogenation

Stabilized ε-Fe2C catalyst with Mn tuning to suppress C1 byproduct selectivity for high-temperature olefin synthesis

Accurately controlling the product selectivity in syngas conversion, especially increasing the olefin selectivity while minimizing C1 byproducts, remains a significant challenge. Epsilon Fe2C is deemed a promising candidate catalyst due to its inherently low CO2 selectivity, but its use is hindered by its poor high-temperature stability. Herein, we report the successful synthesis of highly stable ε-Fe2C through a N-induced strategy utilizing pyrolysis of Prussian blue analogs (PBAs). This catalyst, with precisely controlled Mn promoter, not only achieved an olefin selectivity of up to 70.2% but also minimized the selectivity of C1 byproducts to 19.0%, including 11.9% CO2 and 7.1% CH4. The superior performance of our ε-Fe2C-xMn catalysts, particularly in minimizing CO2 formation, is largely attributed to the interface of dispersed MnO cluster and ε-Fe2C, which crucially limits CO to CO2 conversion. Here, we enhance the carbon efficiency and economic viability of the olefin production process while maintaining high catalytic activity.

Magnetoresistance (MR) properties of magnetic materials

In this review, the classification of magnetic materials exhibiting magnetoresistive properties is the focus of discussion because each material possesses different magnetic and electrical properties that influence the resulting magnetoresistance (MR) values. These properties depend on the structure and mechanism of the material. In this overview, the classification of magnetic materials with different structures is examined in several material groups, including the following: (1) perovskite structure (ABO3), (2) alloy, (3) spinel structure, and (4) Kagome magnet. This review summarizes the results of each material's properties based on experimental findings, and serves as a reference for studying the characteristics of each material.

Research progress of CO2 oxidative dehydrogenation of propane to propylene over Cr-free metal catalysts

CO₂-assisted oxidative dehydrogenation of propane (CO₂-ODHP) is an attractive strategy to offset the demand gap of propylene due to its potentiality of reducing CO₂ emissions, especially under the demands of peaking CO₂ emissions and carbon neutrality. The introduction of CO₂ as a soft oxidant into the reaction not only averts the over-oxidation of products, but also maintains the high oxidation state of the redox-active sites. Furthermore, the presence of CO₂ increases the conversion of propane by coupling the dehydrogenation of propane (DHP) with the reverse water gas reaction (RWGS) and inhibits the coking formation to prolong the lifetime of catalysts via the reverse Boudouard reaction. An effective catalyst should selectively activate the C-H bond but suppress the C-C cleavage. However, to prepare such a catalyst remains challenging. Chromium-based catalysts are always applied in industrial application of DHP; however, their toxic properties are harmful to the environment. In this aspect, exploring environment-friendly and sustainable catalytic systems with Cr-free is an important issue. In this review, we outline the development of the CO₂-ODHP especially in the last ten years, including the structural information, catalytic performances, and mechanisms of chromium-free metal-based catalyst systems, and the role of CO₂ in the reaction. We also present perspectives for future progress in the CO₂-ODHP.

Controllable assembly of Fe3O4–Fe3C@MC by in situ doping of Mn for CO2 selective hydrogenation to light olefins

Mn in situ doped Fe3C anchored in mesoporous carbon was prepared and employed for converting CO2 to light olefins successfully. The in situ doped Mn modified the ratio of FeOx/FeCx and surface electron density, which optimized the C/H on active sites.

Promotional effect of Mn-doping on the catalytic performance of NiO sheets for the selective oxidation of styrene

The direct oxidation of styrene into high-value chemicals under mild reaction conditions remains a great challenge in both academia and industry. Herein, we report a successful electronic structure modulation of intrinsic NiO sheets via Mn-doping towards the oxidation of styrene. By doping NiO with only a small content of Mn (Mn/Ni atomic ratio of 0.030), a 75.0% yield of STO can be achieved under the optimized reaction conditions, which is 2.13 times higher than that of the pure NiO. In addition, the catalyst exhibits robust stability and good recycling performance. The performance enhancement originates from the synergistic effect regarding the abundant Ni(II) species, the rich oxygen vacancy sites and the large amount of surface redox centers. This work provides new findings of the elemental-doping-induced multifunctionality in designing powerful catalysts for the efficient and selective oxidation of styrene and beyond.

Hydrogenation of CO to olefins over a supported iron catalyst on MgAl2O4 spinel: effects of the spinel synthesis method

In the process of CO hydrogenation to olefins by the Fischer–Tropsch synthesis (FTO), the support is a key factor in the activity, selectivity, and thermal and chemical stability of the catalysts, and magnesium aluminate spinel (MgAl₂O₄) has recently been reported to be very effective. In this work, three methods, namely, citric acid solution combustion (MAC), EDTA sol–gel (MAG) and NH₃-coprecipitation (MAP) have been employed to prepare the spinel with detailed characterization of the structure, specific surface area, porosity, and alkalinity properties of both the as-synthesized spinel and the supported catalysts. The results showed that MAC and MAG possessed stronger basicity with more homogeneous particle sizes and narrower distribution of the pore size due to the formation of the metal-nitrate–chelate-complex. This led to a large quantity of gas being released during calcination, however, stronger interactions between the active phase and MAC resulted in lower CO conversion. The catalyst supported on MAP (CMAP) exhibited the highest CO conversion, the highest selectivity of lower olefins, the shortest induction period of reaction, and the lowest AFS chain growth probability; thus, MAP was suggested as an applicable synthetic method. Based on the CMAP catalyst, the effects of the operational conditions were investigated and a 200 hour stability test was carried out with satisfactory performance.
