Ag@polypyrrole: A highly efficient nanocatalyst for the N-alkylation of amines using alcohols

Electrochemical immunosensing by carbon ink/carbon dot/ZnO-labeled-Ag@polypyrrole composite biomarker for CA-125 ovarian cancer detection

In this work, we demonstrated a novel cancer antigen 125 (CA125) biomarker detection based on electrochemical immunosensor. The biomarker on conductive composite materials of carbon ink/carbon dot/zine oxide (C-ink/CD/ZnO) was employed as an electrode platform by using ITO substrate to enhance the interaction of antibodies (Ab) with supporting catalytic performance of ZnO as a labeling signal molecule. They were a scientist attention for biosensor with chemical stability, strong biocompatibility, high conductive signal, and accuracy. Moreover, the nanocomposite of silver@polypyrrole (Ag@PPy) was used as a potential redox mediator. The labeled construction with Ag@PPy was more accuracy than that of a free-labeled. The created immunosensor was a wide linear range as 1 ag·mL^-1 - 100 ng·mL^-1 and a low limitation of detection as 0.1 fg·mL^-1 under the optimal condition. This suggested that the immunosensor is considered to be an accurate and efficient diagnostic tool for CA125 and other biomarkers detection in actual sample analysis for clinic.

High-performance freestanding supercapacitor electrode based on polypyrrole coated nickel cobalt sulfide nanostructures

In the present work, we report the successful fabrication of dandelion-like Nickel-Cobalt Sulfide@Polypyrrole microspheres through the hydrothermal method and its possible application as a binder-free electrode in supercapacitors. This electrode exhibited low charge transfer resistance with a remarkable specific capacitance of 2554.9 F g^-1 at 2.54 A g^-1, in addition to considerable cycle life stability. Also, an asymmetric device was prepared using NiCo₂S₄@PPy/NF as positive and rGO/NF as negative electrodes. This asymmetric supercapacitor exhibited a specific capacitance of 98.9 F g^-1 at 1.84 A g^-1 and delivered an energy density of 35.17 Wh kg^-1 at a power density of 1472 W kg^-1. Such a remarkable performance can be originated from the synergy effect of NiCo₂S₄ and PPy and the direct deposition of the composite on the current collector. Our findings suggest the dandelion-like NiCo₂S₄@PPy as a promising material for making high-performance supercapacitors.

A new biocompatible silver/polypyrrole composite with in vitro antitumor activity

We used an in situ chemical oxidation method to prepare a new composite of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) with polypyrrole (PPy), whose properties were optimized through a 2³-factorial design of the synthesis conditions. The successful formation of the AgNPs/PPy composite was confirmed by UV-Visible and FTIR spectroscopies. Transmission electron microscopy revealed the presence of AgNPs smaller than 100 nm, dispersed into the PPy matrix. This hybrid composite exhibits a blue fluorescence emission after excitation in the ultraviolet region. In MTT assays, the AgNPs/PPy composite exhibited low cytotoxicity toward non-tumoral cell lines (fibroblast, Vero, and macrophages) and selectively inhibited the viability of HeLa cells. The AgNPs/PPy composite induces ultrastructural changes in HeLa cells that are consistent with the noticeable selectivity exhibited toward them when compared to its action against non-tumoral cell lineages. Also, the AgNPs/PPy exhibited a hemolytic activity below 14% for all blood groups tested, at concentrations up to 125 μg/mL. These results suggest that the AgNPs/PPy composite has a promising potential for use as an antitumoral agent.

Self-Suspended Nanoparticles for N-Alkylation Reactions: A New Concept for Catalysis

The catalytic activity of snowman-like and core-shell Fe3O4/Au nanoparticles (NPs), obtained through a "wet chemistry" approach which directly restitutes nanocatalysts stable and highly active in the reaction medium, was tested towards N-alkylation reactions. The nanocatalysts were tested for the synthesis of secondary amines. The core-shell NPs, thanks to the surface properties, homogeneous dispersion and intimate connection with reagents in the catalyst medium, exhibited an excellent catalytic activity (e. g. >99 % yield and conversion of aniline in very short time and mild conditions). Owing to the magnetic part, the nanoparticles can be easily separated and reused, showing an almost stable activity after 10 cycles.

Ultrathin NiS/Ni(OH)2 Nanosheets Filled within Ammonium Polyacrylate-Functionalized Polypyrrole Nanotubes as an Unique Nanoconfined System for Nonenzymatic Glucose Sensors

Ultrathin two-dimensional NiS/Ni(OH)₂ nanosheets (NiS/Ni(OH)₂ NSs) were successfully filled within the hollow interiors of ammonium polyacrylate-functionalized polypyrrole nanotubes (NH₄PA/PPyNTs) by a simple solvothermal method. This kind of novel hierarchical nanostructures with typical structural features of a nanoconfined system, denoted by NiS/Ni(OH)₂/NH₄PA/PPyNTs, were prepared by two main sections: polyacrylic acid (PAA) was first polymerized on PPyNTs containing vinyl groups, and the obtained PAA/PPyNTs exhibited a typical Janus structure, whose external surface was covered with carboxyl groups and the internal surface was still covered with PPy chains; second, Ni²⁺ ions as a precursor were facilely combined with -NH- segments in PPy chains by the coordination interaction under the solvothermal environment; therefore, NiS/Ni(OH)₂ NSs (<1 nm) were well distributed on the internal surface of NH₄PA/PPyNTs by the in situ growth. Because of the synergistic effects of ionizable NH₄PA, PPy with good conductivity, NiS and Ni(OH)₂ with electrocatalytical activity, as well as the nanoconfinement effect, the obtained NiS/Ni(OH)₂@NH₄PA/PPyNTs exhibited excellent electrocatalytic performance for detecting glucose. Sufficiently thin shells composed of ionizable NH₄PA and good conductive PPyNTs can not only promote the electronic transmission effectively during the electrochemical detection of glucose but also hardly limit the transport of glucose and products. In addition, ultrathin NiS/Ni(OH)₂ NSs may further enhance the electrocatalytic performance for glucose because of the more exposed active sites with the large surface area. Therefore, NiS/Ni(OH)₂@NH₄PA/PPyNTs can be applied as a good electrode material with stability and sensitivity for building a nonenzymatic glucose sensor.

Photoacoustic Imaging-Guided Photothermal Therapy with Tumor-Targeting HA-FeOOH@PPy Nanorods

Cancer theragnosis agents with both cancer diagnosis and therapy abilities would be the next generation of cancer treatment. Recently, nanomaterials with strong absorption in near-infrared (NIR) region have been explored as promising cancer theragnosis agents for bio-imaging and photothermal therapy (PTT). Herein, we reported the synthesis and application of a novel multifunctional theranostic nanoagent based on hyaluronan (HA)-coated FeOOH@polypyrrole (FeOOH@PPy) nanorods (HA-FeOOH@PPy NRs) for photoacoustic imaging (PAI)-guided PTT. The nanoparticles were intentionally designed with rod-like shape and conjugated with tumor-targeting ligands to enhance the accumulation and achieve the entire tumor distribution of nanoparticles. The prepared HA-FeOOH@PPy NRs showed excellent biocompatible and physiological stabilities in different media. Importantly, HA-FeOOH@PPy NRs exhibited strong NIR absorbance, remarkable photothermal conversion capability, and conversion stability. Furthermore, HA-FeOOH@PPy NRs could act as strong contrast agents to enhance PAI, conducting accurate locating of cancerous tissue, as well as precise guidance for PTT. The in vitro and in vivo photothermal anticancer activity results of the designed nanoparticles evidenced their promising potential in cancer treatment. The tumor-bearing mice completely recovered after 17 days of PTT treatment without obvious side effects. Thus, our work highlights the great potential of using HA-FeOOH@PPy NRs as a theranostic nanoplatform for cancer imaging-guided therapy.

Cobalt nanoparticles supported on N-doped mesoporous carbon as a highly efficient catalyst for the synthesis of aromatic amines

Inexpensive and reusable transition metal heterogeneous catalysts exhibiting excellent catalytic performance represent an attractive alternative to noble metal and homogeneous catalysts. In this work, we fabricated a novel nanocatalyst comprised of Co nanoparticles (NPs) supported on a N-doped mesoporous carbon (Co/mCN-900) by simple one-pot pyrolysis of a homogeneous mixture of melamine, polyacrylonitrile, and Co(NO₃)₂·6H₂O under a N₂ atmosphere at 900°C. The as-obtained Co/mCN-900 catalyst displayed a fluffy mesoporous structure with highly dispersed and accessible Co NPs acting as catalytic active sites. The Co/mCN-900 catalyst was effective in hydrogenating nitroarenes at milder conditions (i.e., 1MPa H₂ and 120°C) as compared to previously reported Co- and Ni-based catalysts. The Co/mCN-900 catalyst also catalyzed the reductive N-alkylation of nitroarenes with carbonyl compounds to form the corresponding aromatic secondary amines under very mild reaction conditions. In addition, the Co/mCN-900 catalyst showed good reusability since its morphology and activity were maintained after several reaction cycles. Therefore, this work provides a facile and promising method for fabricating non-precious transition metal-based catalysts with excellent performance and great potential for sustainable chemistry applications.
