Abstract
Sensitive and selective methods for detecting Pd(II) and Pt(II) ions in water are crucial for environmental monitoring and remediation. Although traditional methods for detection of Pd(II) and Pt(II) ions are accurate and sensitive, they face substantial challenges due to high costs, reliance on specialised equipment and limited field applicability, thereby presenting notable limitations. In this study, we introduce a novel colourimetric sensing probe designed specifically to identify Pd(II) and Pt(II) ions in aqueous solutions. This probe utilises the enhanced chemical stability of Ag nanoprisms achieved through Pd or Pt deposition on their surfaces. Our approach features exceptionally low limits of detection of 2.6 nM for Pd(II) and 0.3 nM for Pt(II), indicating an impressive detection range. Furthermore, the probe's ease of use, cost-effectiveness and compatibility with both naked eye and UV-Vis spectrophotometric detection make it a selective, reliable and affordable option for point-of-care analysis. Beyond its impressive sensitivity for ion detection, this methodology offers the additional benefit of enabling the on-demand synthesis of customised bimetallic catalysts. The synthesised Ag/Pd and Ag/Pt bimetallic nanoprisms demonstrate promising catalytic potential for environmental remediation. This advancement paves the way for efficient recycling and reuse of valuable Pd(II) and Pt(II) ions in various catalytic applications.

Abstract
This paper presents a novel modified electrode for an amperometric hydrazine sensor based on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) modified with lignosulfonate (LS) and decorated with palladium nanoparticles (NPds). The MWCNT/LS/NPd hybrid was characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The electrochemical properties of the electrode material were evaluated using cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry. The results showed that GC/MWCNT/LS/NPd possesses potent electrocatalytic properties towards the electro-oxidation of hydrazine. The electrode demonstrated exceptional electrocatalytic activity coupled with a considerable sensitivity of 0.166 μA μM-1 cm-2. The response was linear from 3.0 to 100 µM L-1 and 100 to 10,000 µM L-1, and the LOD was quantified to 0.80 µM L-1. The efficacy of the modified electrode as an electrochemical sensor was corroborated in a study of hydrazine determination in water samples.

Abstract
This paper presents the development of cheap and selective Paper-based Analytical Devices (PADs) for selective Pd(II) determination from very acidic aqueous solutions. The PADs were obtained by impregnating two cm-side squares of filter paper with an azoic ligand, (2-(tetrazolylazo)-1,8 dihydroxy naphthalene-3,6,-disulphonic acid), termed TazoC. The so-obtained orange TazoC-PADs interact quickly with Pd(II) in aqueous solutions by forming a complex purple-blue-colored already at pH lower than 2. The dye complexes no other metal ions at such an acidic media, making TazoC-PADs highly selective to Pd(II) detection. Besides, at higher pH values, other cations, for example, Cu(II) and Ni(II), can interact with TazoC through the formation of stable and pink-magenta-colored complexes; however, it is possible to quantify Pd(II) in the presence of other cations using a multivariate approach. To this end, UV-vis spectra of the TazoC-PADs after equilibration with the metal ions solutions were registered in the 300-800 nm wavelength range. By applying Partial Least Square regression (PLS), the whole UV-vis spectra of the TazoC-PADs were related to the Pd(II) concentrations both when present alone in solution and also in the presence of Cu(II) and Ni(II). Tailored PLS models obtained with matrix-matched standard solutions correctly predicted Pd(II) concentrations in unknown samples and tap water spiked with the metal cation, making the method promising for quick and economical sensing of Pd(II).

Abstract
Nanomaterials have versatile properties owing to their high surface-to-volume ratio and can thus be used in a variety of applications. This work focused on applying a facile hydrothermal strategy to prepare praseodymium vanadate nanoparticles due to the importance of nanoparticles in today's society and the fact that their synthesis might be a challenging endeavor. The structural and morphological characterizations were carried out to confirm the influence of the optimizations on the reaction's outcomes, which revealed praseodymium vanadate (PrVO4) with a tetragonal crystal system. In this regard, the proposed development of electrochemical sensors based on the PrVO4 nanocatalyst for the real-time detection of arsenic drug roxarsone (RXS) is a primary concern. The detection was measured by amperometric (i-t) signals where PrVO4/SPCE, as a new electrochemical sensing medium for RXS detection, increased the sensitivity of the sensor to about ∼2.5 folds compared to the previously reported ones. In the concentration range of 0.001-551.78 μM, the suggested PrVO4/SPCE sensor has a high sensitivity for RXS, with a detection limit of 0.4 nM. Furthermore, the impact of several selected potential interferences, operational stability (2000 s), and reproducibility measurements have no discernible effect on RXS sensing, making it the ideal sensing device feasible for technical analysis. The real-time analysis reveals the excellent efficiency and reliability of the prosed sensor toward RXS detection with favorable recovery ranges between ±97.00-99.66% for chicken, egg, water, and urine samples.

Abstract
Current synthesis routes of bismuth oxide nanosheets (BiONS) are relatively complicated, requiring the use of halogens or metalloids. Herein, a facile method to synthesize BiONS without the addition of halogens or other metalloids was developed. The synthesized BiONS were identified to have flake-shaped structures (300-1000 nm in width) with the thickness of 6-10 nm, which were predominantly made of β-Bi2O3. Such BiONS were applied to modify the surface of screen-printed carbon electrodes (BiONS-SPCEs) for the development of a robust palladium (Pd2+) sensor. After optimizing the electrochemical parameters of the sensor, it was found that the linear sensor response range and limit of detection for Pd2+ were 40-400 and 1.4 ppb, respectively. The electrocatalytic activity of the Pd2+-sensor was validated in the competing environment of other metal and metalloid ions. Real samples collected during a Pd recovery process from pharmaceutical wastewater were used to verify the application of BiONS-SPCEs in control of palladium recovery process. The quantitative results of post recovery palladium concentrations obtained using BiONS-SPCEs in treated pharmaceutical wastewater samples were in good agreement with those obtained by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). Thus, such Pd2+-sensor provided the possibility of on-site process control of complex industrial samples for obtaining near-instant information that would lead to better management of resources used in the process, and same time assure environmental standards for both recovered products and processed discharge.

Abstract
In this paper, a simple and effective fluorescence turn-on approach for highly sensitive and selective monitoring Hg2+ ions was designed by using carbon dots (CDs) and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). It reveals that the fluorescence of CDs solution can be quenched in the presence of AgNPs through inner filter effect (IFE) and the quenched CDs-AgNPs system is turned on after addition of Hg2+ ions, which is due to higher affinity of Hg2+ and AgNPs than that of CDs and AgNPs, thus resulting the disappearance of AgNPs from the CDs-AgNPs composites and leading to the fluorescence turn-on of CDs. The developed fluorescence turn-on approach exhibited high selectivity and sensitivity for detection of Hg2+. Under the optimum experimental conditions, good linearity was achieved over the range of 100-160 μM and the limit of detection (LOD) was estimated to be 2.22×10-8 M for Hg2+. The recoveries of Hg2+ spiked in real samples ranged from 98.4% to 101.6%. Results of this study suggest that the fluorescence turn-on approach can be used to the detection of Hg2+ in real water samples.

Abstract
Rare-earth metal orthovanadates have great technological relevance in the family of rare-earth compounds owing to their excellent physical and chemical properties. A significant number of studies have been carried out on this class of compounds to exploit their electrochemical properties in virtue of variable oxidation states. But holmium vanadate (HoV) and its morphology selective synthesis have not been considered, which can have potential applications similar to the rest of the family. In this work, we propose the synthesis of superior architectures of HoV with a functionalized boron nitride (f-BN) nanocomposite. The synergistic effect between HoV and f-BN can have a positive effect on the physical characteristics of the nanocomposite, which can be explored for its electrochemical capacity. Here, HoV incorporated with f-BN is explored for the electrochemical detection of Hg2+ ions, which is known for its toxicity-induced environmental health hazards. The structural and compositional revelation reveals higher conductivity and faster electron transfer in the composite, which facilitates a wide working range (0.02-53.8 and 64.73-295.4 μM), low limit of detection (5 nM), higher sensitivity (66.6 μA μM-1 cm-2), good selectivity over 10-fold higher concentration of other interfering compounds compared to Hg2+ ion concentration, and good cycles stability (30 segments) toward Hg2+ ion detection. This also envisages the morphology selective synthesis and utilization of other rare-earth metals, whose electrochemical capacities are unexplored.

Abstract
With the extensive use of palladium derivatives in the industry, their environmental pollution has become more and more serious. Herein, allyl functionalized hydrazone 2D COFs (XB-COFs) were found for selective fluorescent detection of Pd2+ (detection concentration of 0.29 μM) in water. The stable structure of the hydrazone bond and the complexation ability of allyl to Pd2+ cause XB-COF to have a good fluorescence sensing effect in both acid and alkaline solutions, and its adsorption capacity for Pd2+ is up to 120 mg g-1. During the interaction between XB-COF and Pd2+, a part of Pd2+ can be reduced to Pd nanoparticles with a diameter of about 10 nm. A fluorescent test paper was prepared by the in situ growth of XB-COF onto a filter paper, which can realize visualization detection of Pd2+ in 10 s with the naked eye or under a 365 nm UV lamp. This is the first time a fluorescent test paper based on in the situ growth of COFs has been applied for the detection of heavy metal ions, which provides a new platform for the application of COF materials in the medical health field, food safety, and environmental protection.

Abstract
This work proposes the conventional sonochemical synthesis of nanoparticles of tin (IV) oxide on reduced graphene oxide (rGOS@SnO2) influencing the formation of a composite with enhanced properties. The combination of SnO2 nanoparticles with rGOS weakens the accumulation in layered structures of the latter system, which leads to better exposure of SnO2 active sites and thus increases the conductivity of rGOS@SnO2 composite. This validates the improved electro-catalytic activity of the composite based on previous reports for its successful utilization in the electrochemical determination of toxic contaminants. The quantitative determination of mercury ions, through the use of the electrochemical sensor based on rGOS@SnO2 manifests several advantages such as simple operator, promptness, cost effectiveness and time independency when compared to other traditional techniques. The fabricated sensor displays two wide linear responses in the range of 0.25-705.3 μM for mercury ions, with a rapid response time about 1 s, and with a high sensitivity of 10.18 μA μM-1 cm-2 under optimized conditions. The accumulation of traces of mercury in the bodies of fish in the marine eco system marks the significance of its detection in real samples. The satisfactory results of the proposed sensor establish the supreme efficacy of layered nanomaterials in conjunction with nanoparticles for the simple, rapid and efficient detection of pollutants in food and biological samples.

Abstract
In this article, a simple and rapid colorimetric sensing method was developed for the determination of palladium ions. The method is based on in situ generation of palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) upon reduction by hydrazine which then acts as an activator on the reduction reaction of thionine by hydrazine. The formation of PdNPs was characterized by UV-Vis spectrophotometry, particle size analysis and TEM images. The reaction was followed by measuring the thionine absorbance at 599 nm with time. Several factors influencing analytical performance of the kinetic method such as concentration of reactants and electrolyte, pH of the sample solution and temperature were investigated to achieve the optimum conditions and highest sensitivity. This method showed a linear calibration curve in the concentration range of 8-1200 ng mL-1 for palladium ions. The limit of detection (LOD) was 6.5 ng mL-1 and the relative standard deviations were 3.8% and 1.3% (n = 8) for two palladium ion concentrations of 60 and 300 ng mL-1, respectively. The method was successfully applied to the determination of palladium in river water, pond water, wastewater and soil samples.
