Abstract
A novel bio-based catalyst was developed by in-situ forming Chromium(III) (Cr)-based metal-organic framework, MIL-101(Cr), in the presence of k-carrageenan (k-Car) and followed by a post-synthetic modification to introduce additional -SO3H functional groups into the composite structure of k-Car/MIL-101(Cr). Different analyses were conducted to confirm the successful catalyst formation. The catalyst performance was evaluated in the solid acid catalyzed dehydration of fructose to 5-hydroxymethylfurfural. The Response Surface Method (RSM) optimization determined that employing 33 wt% of the catalyst at 105 °C for 40 min resulted in a remarkable 97.8 % yield. The catalyst demonstrated suitable recyclability, maintaining its catalytic efficiency over four cycles. Comparative studies with k-Car and the non-sulfonated composite highlighted the superior activity of the catalyst, emphasizing the synergy between the k-Car, MIL-101(Cr) and the influence of -SO3H post-functionalizing on the catalytic performance.

Abstract
A novel and cost-effective heterogeneous catalyst for glycerol carbonate production through transesterification was developed by impregnating smectite clay with K2CO3. Comprehensive structural and chemical analyses, including X-ray diffraction Analysis (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)-Electron Dispersion Spectroscopy (EDS), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area analysis measurements, were employed to characterize the catalysts. Among the various catalysts prepared, the one impregnated with 40 wt% K2CO3 on smectite and calcined at 550 °C exhibited the highest catalytic activity, primarily due to its superior basicity. To enhance the efficiency of the transesterification process, several reaction parameters were optimized, including the molar ratio between propylene carbonate and glycerol reactor loading of the catalyst and reaction temperature. The highest glycerol carbonate conversion rate, approximately 77.13% ± 1.2%, was achieved using the best catalyst under the following optimal conditions: 2 wt% reactor loading, 110 °C reaction temperature, 2:1 propylene carbonate to glycerol molar ratio, and 6h reaction duration. Furthermore, both the raw clay and the best calcined K2CO3-impregnated catalysts demonstrated remarkable stability, maintaining their high activity for up to four consecutive reaction cycles. Finally, a kinetic analysis was performed using kinetic data from several runs employing raw clay and the most active K2CO3-modified clay at different temperatures, observing that a simple reversible second-order potential kinetic model of the quasi-homogeneous type fits perfectly to such data in diverse temperature ranges.

Abstract
Easy preparation, good yield and easy recovery are the key challenges in the development of industrial catalysts. To meet all these three criteria, we have prepared intelligent, magnetizable NiFe2O4- and CoFe2O4-supported palladium catalysts that can be easily and completely recovered from the reaction medium by magnetic separation. The fast and facile preparation was achieved by a solvothermal method followed by sonochemical-assisted decomposition of the palladium nanoparticles onto the surface of the magnetic nanoparticles. The metal-support interaction was enhanced by amine functionalization of the supports using monoethanolamine. The performance and stability of the non-functionalized and amine-functionalized NiFe2O4- and CoFe2O4-supported palladium catalysts were compared in the industrially important nitrobenzene hydrogenation reaction. All catalysts showed high catalytic activity during aniline synthesis; complete nitrobenzene conversion and high aniline yield (above 97 n/n%) and selectivity (above 98 n/n%) were achieved. However, during reuse tests, the activity of the non-functionalized catalysts decreased, as the palladium was leached from the surface of the support. On the other hand, in the case of their amine-functionalized counterparts, there was no decrease in activity, and a non-significant decrease in palladium content could be measured. Based on these results, it can be concluded that amine functionalization of transition metal ferrites may result in more effective catalysts due to the enhanced metal-carrier interaction between the support and the precious metal.

Abstract
Aniline (AN) is one of the most important compounds in the chemical industry and is prepared by the catalytic hydrogenation of nitrobenzene (NB). The development of novel, multifunctional catalysts which are easily recoverable from the reaction mixture is, therefore, of paramount importance. Compared to conventional filtration, magnetic separation is favored because it is cheaper and more facile. For satisfying these requirements, we developed manganese ferrite (MnFe2O4)–supported, magnetically separable palladium catalysts with high catalytic activity in the hydrogenation of nitrobenzene to aniline. In addition to high NB conversion and AN yield, remarkable aniline selectivity (above 96 n/n%) was achieved. Surprisingly, the magnetic support alone also shows moderate catalytic activity even without noble metals, and thus, up to 94 n/n% nitrobenzene conversion, along with 47 n/n% aniline yield, are attainable. After adding palladium nanoparticles to the support, the combined catalytic activity of the two nanomaterials yielded a fast, efficient, and highly selective catalyst. During the test of the Pd/MnFe2O4 catalyst in NB hydrogenation, no by-products were detected, and consequently, above 96 n/n% aniline yield and 96 n/n% selectivity were achieved. The activity of the Pd/MnFe2O4 catalyst was not particularly sensitive to the hydrogenation temperature, and reuse tests indicate its applicability in at least four cycles without regeneration. The remarkable catalytic activity and other favorable properties can make our catalyst potentially applicable to both NB hydrogenation and other similar or slightly different reactions.

Abstract
The recyclable nanomagnetic Pd-complex PAMAM G0-Pd@γ-Fe2O3 is reported for catalytic C–C cross-coupling reactions of challenging substrates. Mainly, a great variety of aryl chlorides can be used as substrates for Suzuki–Miyaura and Mizoroki–Heck reactions under mild reaction conditions (60–90 °C) and low catalyst loading (<1 mol% Pd) in aqueous media. The presence of numerous polar groups in the polymer matrix increases the solubility of the catalyst in water, thus facilitating its operation in aqueous environments. The immobilization of the catalyst on the surface of a magnetic platform allows its effective recovery and reuse without significant loss of catalytic activity for at least six cycles with total leaching of <1% palladium metal, meeting the requirements for acceptable metal residues in the pharmaceutical industry. The recyclable nanomagnetic Pd-complex PAMAM G0-Pd@γ-Fe2O3 is reported for catalytic C–C cross-coupling reactions of challenging substrates.![]()

Abstract
A facile and efficient strategy is introduced for growing a dendrimer structure on the surface of magnetic graphene oxide by using thiol-ene click reaction. The as-synthesized dendrimer-grafted magnetic graphene oxide was used as a suitable support for bimetallic Pd-Ni nanoparticles. The prepared nanocomposite was utilized for the reduction of toxic nitroarenes to aminoarenes by using sodium borohydride in aqueous medium at room temperature. Various nitroarenes with functional groups like nitrile, halogen, carbonyl, hydroxyl, acid, and heterocycles were converted to their corresponding anilines with good to excellent yields. The enhanced performance of the catalyst could be attributed to the synergistic effect between Ni and Pd which causes the reaction to proceed more efficiently. Moreover, the catalyst could be readily isolated from the reaction mixture by utilizing an external magnet and reused till 5th cycles with marginal loss of activity.

Abstract
The use of clay minerals as catalyst is renowned since ancient times. Among the different clays used for catalytic purposes, halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) represent valuable resources for industrial applications. This special tubular clay possesses high stability and biocompatibility, resistance against organic solvents, and most importantly be available in large amounts at a low cost. Therefore, HNTs can be efficiently used as catalysts themselves or supports for metal nanoparticles in several catalytic processes. This review reports a comprehensive overview of the relevant advances in the use of halloysite in catalysis, focusing the attention on the last five years.

Abstract
Catalytic hydroprocesses play a significant role in oil refining and petrochemistry. The tailored design of new metal nanosystems and optimization of their support, composition, and structure is a prospective strategy for enhancing the efficiency of catalysts. Mesoporous support impacts the active component by binding it to the surface, which leads to the formation of tiny highly dispersed catalytic particles stabilized from aggregation and with minimized leaching. The structural and acidic properties of the support are crucial and determine the size and dispersion of the active metal phase. Currently, research efforts are shifted toward the design of nanoscale porous materials, where homogeneous catalysts are displaced by heterogeneous. Ceramic materials, such as 50 nm diameter natural halloysite nanotubes, are of special interest for this. Much attention to halloysite clay is due to its tubular structure with a hollow 10-15 nm diameter internal cavity, textural characteristics, and different chemical compositions of the outer/inner surfaces, allowing selective nanotube modification. Loading halloysite with metal particles or placing them outside the tubes provides stable and efficient mesocatalysts. The low cost of this abundant nanoclay makes it a good choice for the scaled-up architectural design of core-shell catalysts, containing active metal sites (Au, Ag, Pt, Ru, Co, Mo, Fe2O3, CdS, CdZnS, Cu-Ni) located inside or outside the tubular template. These alumosilicate nanotubes are environment-friendly and are available in thousands of tons. Herein, we summarized the advances of halloysite-based composite materials for hydroprocesses, focusing on the selective binding of metal particles. We analyze the tubes' morphology adjustments and size selection, the physicochemical properties of pristine and modified halloysite (e.g., acid-etched or silanized), the methods of metal clusters formation, and their localization. We indicate prospective routes for the architectural design of stable and efficient nanocatalysts based on this safe and natural clay material.

Abstract
In attempt to develop a biocompatible metal-free catalyst, a dendritic moiety was grown on chitosan through successive reactions with 2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine and ethylenediamine. Subsequently, the terminal functional groups of the dendron were decorated with 1-methylimidazolium chloride. The catalyst was characterized with SEM, EDS, TGA, FTIR, XRD and mapping analysis. Then, the catalytic activity of the resultant composite was scrutinized for catalyzing Knoevenagel condensation and synthesis of xanthene derivatives in aqueous media under mild reaction condition. The results confirmed high activity of the catalyst, superior to ionic liquid free counterpart and bare chitosan. This observation was ascribed to the instinct catalytic activity of ionic liquid. Moreover, using control catalysts, it was confirmed that the presence of the dendritic moiety that could increase the content of ionic liquid on the backbone of the catalyst enhanced the catalytic activity.

Abstract
Silver nanoparticles were immobilized on magnetic polyallylamine (PAA) decorated g-C3N4 by using Heracleum persicum extract as a biological reducing and stabilizing agent. The resulting nanocomposite, Fe3O4-g-C3N4-TCT-PAA-Ag, was then characterized using BET, VSM, XRD, TGA, FTIR, TEM, EDS and ICP. The catalytic performance of the synthesized nanocatalyst was considered in the reduction of rhodamine B, and methyl orange in the presence of sodium borohydride in the aqueous medium at room temperature. The results showed that Fe3O4-g-C3N4-TCT-PAA-Ag nanocomposite could promote both reduction reactions efficiently in very short reaction times (70-100 s). In addition, Fe3O4-g-C3N4-TCT-PAA-Ag could be magnetically recovered and recycled for several cycles with no significant decrease in its catalytic performance. Using the experimental results, the rate constant, enthalpy, and entropy of the reduction reactions of both dyes were estimated.

Abstract
Using natural materials, i.e. halloysite nanoclay that is a biocompatible naturally occurring clay and Heracleum persicum extract that can serve as a green reducing agent, a novel magnetic catalyst, Fe3O4/Hal-Mel-TEA(IL)-Pd, has been designed and fabricated. To prepare the catalyst, halloysite was first magnetized (magnetic particles with mean diameter of 13.06 ± 3.1 nm) and then surface functionalized with melamine, 1,4 dibromobutane and triethanolamine to provide ionic liquid on the halloysite surface (5 wt%). The latter was then used as a support to immobilize Pd nanoparticles that were reduced by Heracleum persicum extract. The characterization of the catalyst established that the loading of Pd in Fe3O4/Hal-Mel-TEA(IL)-Pd was very low (0.93 wt%) and its specific surface area was 63 m2g−1. Moreover, the catalyst showed magnetic property (Ms = 19.75 emu g−1) and could be magnetically separated from the reaction. The catalytic performance of the magnetic catalyst for reductive degradation of methyl orange and rhodamine B in the presence of NaBH4 in aqueous media was investigated. The activation energy, enthalpy, and entropy for the reduction of methyl orange were estimated as 42.02 kJ mol−1, 39.40 kJ mol−1, and −139.06 J mol−1 K−1, respectively. These values for rhodamine B were calculated as 39.97 kJ mol−1, 34.33 kJ mol−1, and −155.18 Jmol−1K−1, respectively. Notably, Fe3O4/Hal-Mel-TEA(IL)-Pd could be reused for eight reaction runs with negligible loss of the catalytic activity (~3%) and Pd leaching (0.01 wt% of the initial loading).

Abstract
In this article, halloysite nanoclay (Hal) was used as porogen for the synthesis of nitrogen doped porous carbon material with high specific surface area and pore volume. To this purpose, polymerization of melamine and terephthalaldehyde (MT) was performed in the presence of amine-functionalized carbon coated Hal (Hal@Glu-2N) that was prepared from hydrothermal treatment of Hal and glucose. Then, the prepared nanocomposite was palladated and carbonized to afford Pd@Hal@C. To further improve the textural properties of the nanocomposite, and introduce more pores in its structure, Hal nanotubes were etched. The characterization of the resulting compound, Pd@C, and comparing it with Pd@Hal@C, showed that etching of Hal significantly increased the specific surface area and pore volume in Pd@C. Pd@C was successfully used as a heterogeneous catalyst for promoting hydrogenation of nitroarens in aqueous media using hydrogen with atmospheric pressure as a reducing agent. The comparison of the structural features and catalytic activity of the catalyst with some control catalysts, including, Pd@Hal, Pd@Hal@Glu, Pd@Hal@Glu-MT and Pd@Hal@C confirmed that nitrogen groups in C could improve the Pd anchoring and suppress its leaching, while etching of Hal and introduction of more pores could enhance the catalytic activity through facilitating the mass transfer.

Abstract
Abstract
Melamine based polymer (MT) was prepared and then reacted with a mixture of glucose (Glu) and β-cyclodextrin (CD) under hydrothermal conditions to afford, MT/Glu-CD. Then, the adsorption of Pd salt was realized on MT/Glu-CD. The resulting compound was subsequently carbonized to furnish Pd/MT/C that exhibited high catalytic activity for the hydrogenation of nitroarenes in aqueous media. To elucidate the roles of CD, Glu, the molar ratio of Glu:CD and the carbonization in the catalytic activity, several control catalysts have been prepared and their performances for a model hydrogenation reaction were compared with that of Pd/MT/C. The results confirmed the importance of the carbonization as well as the presence of CD for achieving high catalytic activity. Moreover, it was found that the molar ratio of Glu:CD could affect the catalytic activity of the final catalyst and the optimum molar ratio of Glu:CD was 30:70. The recycling test as well as measurement of Pd leaching demonstrated high recyclability and low Pd leaching of Pd/MT/C.

Abstract
A novel nitrile-/cyano-free ionic liquid was synthesized and carbonized under two different carbonization methods in the presence of ZnCl2 as a catalyst to afford N-doped carbon materials. It was found that the carbonization condition could affect the nature and textural properties of the resulting carbon. In the following, ionic liquid-derived carbon was hybridized with naturally occurring halloysite nanotubes via two procedures, that is, hydrothermal treatment of halloysite and as-prepared carbon and carbonization of ionic liquid in the presence of halloysite. The two novel nanocomposites were then used for stabilizing Pd nanoparticles. Examining the structures and catalytic activities of the resulting catalysts for the hydrogenation of nitroarenes in aqueous media showed that the carbonization procedure and hybridization method could affect the structure and the catalytic activity of the catalysts and hydrothermal approach, in which the structure of halloysite is preserved, leading to the catalyst with superior catalytic activity.

Abstract
A new Pd nanoparticle loaded and imidazolium-ionic liquid decorated organic polymer of Pd@PTC-POP was readily fabricated via a Pd(PPh3)4 catalysed in situ one-pot Suzuki cross-coupling reaction between imidazolium attached dibromobenzene and 1,3,5-tri(4-pinacholatoborolanephenyl)benzene. Besides the high thermal and chemical stability, the obtained Pd@PTC-POP can be used as a highly active and reusable phase-transfer solid catalyst to promote the Sonogashira coupling reaction in water. The obtained results indicate that the Pd@PTC-POP herein could create a versatile family of solid phase transfer catalysts for promoting a broad scope of reactions carried out in water. A Pd nanoparticle loaded and imidazolium-ionic liquid decorated organic polymer, which can be used as a highly active phase-transfer solid catalyst to promote the Sonogashira reaction in water, was reported.![]()
