Abstract
The chemical conversion of carbon dioxide (CO2) into highly value-added products not only alleviates the environmental issues caused by global warming but also makes an impact on economic benefits in the world. The synthesis of cyclic carbonates by the cycloaddition of CO2 with epoxides is one of the most attractive methods for CO2 conversion. However, the development of green and highly efficient heterogeneous catalysts is considered to be a great challenge in catalysis. In this work, alkenyl-modified melamine-based porous organic polymer (MPOP-4A) was firstly synthesized by a one-pot polycondensation method, and it was again modified with imidazolium-based ionic liquids to obtain final modified catalyst (MPOP-4A-IL). Various analytical techniques were used to confirm structure and chemical composition of the prepared materials. The MPOP-4A-IL catalyst synthesized by the post-modification strategy with imidazolium-based ionic liquids exhibited enhanced catalytic activity for CO2 cycloaddition reaction. The enhanced catalytic performance could be attributed to the presence of abundant active sites in their structure such as hydrogen bond donors (HBD), nitrogen (N) sites, and nucleophilic groups for an effective chemical reaction. The MPOP-4A-IL catalyst was found to be metal-free, easy to recycle and reuse, and has good versatility for a series of different epoxides. The interaction of MPOP-4A-IL catalyst with epoxide and CO2 was further verified by density functional theory (DFT) calculations, and the possible mechanism of the CO2 cycloaddition reaction was proposed.

Abstract
Carbon dioxide cycloaddition into fine chemicals is prospective technology to solve energy crisis and environmental issues. However, high temperature and pressure are usually required in the conventional cycloaddition reactions of CO2 with epoxides. Moreover, metal active sites play a vital role in the CO2 cycloaddition, but it is still unclear. Herein, we select the isostructural MOF-919-Cu-Fe and MOF-919-Cu-Al as models to promote the performance and clarify the effects of metal type on the CO2 cycloaddition. The MOF-919-Cu-Fe with exposed Fe and Cu Lewis acid sites reaches the CO2 cycloaddition with over 99.9% conversion and over 99.9% selectivity at room temperature and a 1 bar CO2 atmosphere, 3.0- and 52.6-fold higher than those of the MOF-919-Cu-Al with Al and Cu sites (33.8%) and the 1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylic acid, Fe, and Cu mixed system (1.9%), respectively. The proposed mechanism demonstrated that the exposed Fe3+ sites facilitate the ring opening of epoxide and CO2 activation to boost the CO2 cycloaddition reaction. This work provides a new insight to tune the catalytic sites of MOFs to achieve high performance for CO2 fixation.

Abstract
The development of bifunctional ionic polymers as heterogeneous catalysts for effective, cocatalyst- and metal-free cycloaddition of carbon dioxide into cyclic carbonates has attracted increasing attention. However, facile fabrication of such polymers having high numbers of ionic active sites, suitable types of hydrogen bond donors (HBDs), and controlled spatial positions of dual active sites remains a challenging task. Herein, imidazolium-based ionic polymers with hydroxyl/carboxyl groups and high ionic density were facilely prepared by a one-pot quaternization reaction. Catalytic evaluation demonstrated that the presence of HBDs (hydroxyl or carboxyl) could enhance the catalytic activities of ionic polymers significantly toward the CO2 cycloaddition reaction. Among the prepared catalysts, carboxyl-functionalized ionic polymer (PIMBr-COOH) displayed the highest catalytic activity (94% yield) in the benchmark cycloaddition reaction of CO2 and epichlorohydrin, which was higher than hydroxyl-functionalized ionic polymer (PIMBr-OH, 76% yield), and far exceeded ionic polymer without HBDs groups (PIMBr, 54% yield). Furthermore, PIMBr-COOH demonstrated good recyclability and wide substrate tolerance. Under ambient CO2 pressure, a number of epoxides were smoothly cycloadded into cyclic carbonates. Additionally, density functional theory (DFT) calculation verified the formation of strong hydrogen bonds between epoxide and the HBDs of ionic polymers. Furthermore, a possible mechanism was proposed based on the synergistic effect between carboxyl and Br− functionalities. Thus, a facile, one-pot synthetic strategy for the construction of bifunctional ionic polymers was developed for CO2 fixation.

Abstract
Studying the effect of functional groups on the porosity structure and adsorption efficiency of polymer materials is becoming increasingly interesting. In this work, a novel porous polyaminal-linked polymer, based on naphthalene and melamine (PAN-NA) building blocks, was successfully synthesized by a one-pot polycondensation method, and used as an adsorbent for both CO2 and heavy metals. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, solid-state 13 C NMR, powder X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetry were used to characterize the prepared polymer. The porous material structure was established by field-emission scanning electron microscope and N2 adsorption–desorption methods at 77 K. The polymer exhibited excellent uptake of CO2, 133 mg/g at 273 K and 1 bar. In addition, the adsorption behavior of PAN-NA for different metal cations, including Pb(II), Cr(III), Cu(II), Cd(II), Ni(II), and Ba(II), was investigated; a significant adsorption selectivity toward the Pb(II) cation was detected. The influence of pH, adsorbent dose, initial concentrations, and contact time was also assessed. Our results prove that the introduction of naphthalene in the polymer network improves the porosity and, thus, CO2 adsorption, as well as the adsorption of heavy metals.

Abstract
Metal–organic frameworks (CDs@NH2-MOF(Ni)) with carbon dots as the core were synthesised successfully by a one-pot method. The synthesised CDs@NH2-MOF(Ni) contain a large number of amine functional groups and a large surface area for capturing CO2. The FT-IR spectra showed that there exists a large number of carboxylate and amine groups on the surface of the carbon dots, and analysis by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area analysis confirmed that the CDs had successfully entered the CDs@NH2-MOF(Ni). The cycloaddition reaction of propylene oxide (PO) and CO2 was carried out using CDs@NH2-MOF(Ni)/tetra-n-butylammonium bromide (TBAB) and NH2-MOF(Ni)/TBAB as catalytic systems, respectively. The reaction results showed that the two catalytic systems have good catalytic performance for the cycloaddition reaction of PO and CO2. Compared with that of the NH2-MOF(Ni)/TBAB system, both the conversion of PO and the yield of propylene carbonate (PC) are improved in the CDs@NH2-MOF(Ni)/TBAB system. Finally, the optimum catalytic reaction conditions, such as time, temperature, CO2 pressure, and five cycles of catalytic effect, were also discussed. Meanwhile, the mechanism of the catalytic system CDs@NH2-MOF(Ni)/TBAB in the cycloaddition reaction of PO and CO2 was proposed in this work.

Abstract
Two novel polyesterurethane materials, PEU1 and PEU2, were synthesized via nontoxic and isocyanate-free route by simple conversion of two epoxides 1,2-epoxy-3-phenoxy propane (2) and styrene epoxide (3) utilizing CO2. Epoxides 2 and 3 were converted to the respective cyclic carbonates 4 and 5 by a new set of cobalt-based catalyst 1a in the presence of 10 bar of CO2 and 80 °C temperature without using cocatalyst tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB). The mechanistic pathway of the catalysis reaction for the cycloaddition of epoxides with CO2 to generate the cyclic carbonates was investigated by several spectroscopic techniques and utilizing analogous zinc-based 1D coordination polymer 1b, which does not act as an efficient catalyst in the absence of TBAB. Cyclic carbonates 4 and 5 were converted to the respective polyesterurethanes PEU1 and PEU2 sequentially by first synthesizing the ring-opened diols 6 and 7 reacting with ethylenediamine and subsequently annealing the respective diols 6 and 7 at 120 °C in the presence of terepthalyl chloride and triethylamine. The polyesterurethanes PEU1 and PEU2 were characterized by multinuclear NMR and FTIR. PEU1 was also characterized by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. The thermal studies of PEU1 and PEU2 showed the stability up to 200-270 °C. The number-average and weight-average molecular weights were determined for PEU1 and PEU2 by GPC analysis. The weight-average molecular weight for PEU1 was found to be 5948 with a polydispersity of 1.1, and PEU2 showed the weight-average molecular weight as 4224 with a polydispersity of 1.06.
