Abstract
4-Methylcoumarin-7-yloxy-N-phenyl acetamide and 4-methylcoumarin-7-yloxy-N-4-nitrophenyl acetamide were synthesized and used as new ionophores in the carbon paste matrix to produce two novel potentiometric modified electrodes. The selectivity of the electrode changed from copper (II) to chromium (III) with the addition of a nitro group to the phenyl ring of the ionophore. The ionophores’ tendency to ions was confirmed by UV–visible spectrophotometry. Both electrodes were modified by multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as an excellent modifier of carbon paste electrode (CPE). The best sensor response in the case of copper (II) selective CPE was obtained by 5% ionophore, 65% graphite powder, 5% MWCNT, and 25% paraffin oil. In addition, in the case of chromium (III) selective CPE, these conditions are 20% ionophore, 50% graphite powder, 5% MWCNT, and 25% paraffin oil. The copper (II) selective CPE showed a Nernstian slope of 32.15 mV/decade within the concentration range of 1.0 × 10–10–1.0 × 10–1 mol L−1, while chromium (III) selective CPE showed a Nernstian slope of 19.28 mV/decade over the concentration range of 1.0 × 10–10–7.0 × 10–3 mol L−1. The electrodes have short response time of less than 5 s and were used successfully to determine copper (II) in wastewater and to speciation of chromium (III) and chromium (VI).

Abstract
A simple, selective, and inexpensive spectrophotometric method is described in the present study for estimation of trace concentrations of Cu2+ in water based on its reaction with chromogenic reagent namely 4-amino-3-mercapto-6-[2-(2-thienyl)vinyl]-1,2,4-triazin-5(4H)-one (AMT). The reaction between copper(II) ions and AMT reagent gives [Cu(L)(NO3)(H2O)2]•H2O complex, where L represents AMT molecule with NH group. The formed complex exhibits a sharp, and well-defined peak at λmax = 434 nm with a molar absorptivity (ε) of 1.90 × 104 L mol−1 cm−1, and Sandell’s factor of 0.003 μg mL−2. Absorbance of the [Cu(L)(NO3)(H2O)2]•H2O follows Beer’s law over a 0.7–25 μg mL−1 range with a detection limit of 0.011 μg mL−1. Validation of the submitted method was established by estimating Cu2+ in certified reference materials and actual sea and tap water samples. The results are compared with data obtained from copper concentration measurements using ICP-OES. The chemical structure of the Cu(II)-AMT complex was fully characterized by FT-IR, SEM, EDX, TGA, and ESR techniques.

Abstract
Tartrazine is an azo food dye, which is orange-colored and water soluble. It is usually used in foods, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and textiles. Tartrazine has the potential to cause an adverse health effect on humans, such as hyperactivity in children, allergy, and asthma. Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additive and EU Scientific Committee for Food have standardized the acceptable daily intake for tartrazine that is 7.5 mg kg-1 body weight. Many researchers have detected the presence of tartrazine for monitoring the quality and safety of food products. In this review paper, we highlighted various tartrazine detection and extraction methods. Some of the analytical methods are available such as high-performance liquid chromatography, electrochemical sensor, thin-layer chromatography, spectrophotometry, capillary electrophoresis, and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Also, we discuss following extraction steps: liquid-liquid extraction, solid-phase extraction, membrane filtration, cloud point extraction, and other extraction method. In addition, a brief overview is presented explaining the synthesis process and metabolism of tartrazine and the maximum permitted level in different countries. This review paper will give an insight into different extraction and analytical methods for the determination of tartrazine in healthy foods, which will attract the attention of public toward food safety and quality, and also the interest of food industry and government bodies.

Abstract
A new solid contact copper selective electrode with a poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) membrane consisting of o-xylylenebis(N,N-diisobutyldithiocarbamate) as ionophore has been prepared. The main novelties of constructed ion selective electrode concept are the enhanced robustness, cheapness, and fastness due to the use of solid contacts. The electrode exhibits a rapid (< 10 seconds) and near-Nernstian response to Cu2+ activity from 10-1 to 10-6 mol/L at the pH range of 4.0-6.0. No serious interference from common ions was found. The electrode characterizes by high potential stability, reproducibility, and full repeatability. The electrode was used as an indicator electrode in potentiometric titration of Cu(II) ions with EDTA and for the direct assay of tea infusion samples by means of the calibration graph technique. The results compared favorably with those obtained by the atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS).

Abstract
A potentiometric carbon paste sensor was fabricated for determination of sulfaquinoxaline (SQX) based on the use of ion-association complex of sulfaquinoxaline sodium with 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride. The proposed sensor exhibited Nernstian slope of 58.4 ± 0.3 mV per decade for sulfaquinoxaline over a wide concentration range of 5.0 × 10(-6) to 1.0 × 10(-2)M, with a low detection limit of 3.0 × 10(-6)M. The sensor manifested advantages of fast response time, satisfactory reproducibility, long life time, high thermal stability and, most importantly, excellent selectivities for sulfaquinoxaline relative to a wide variety of common foreign inorganic cations, anions, sugars and amino acids. The sensor was successfully used for determination of sulfaquinoxaline in pharmaceutical solution, blood serum, urine and milk samples. The isothermal coefficient of the electrode was calculated by the investigation of temperature effects on the electrode potential response.

Abstract
A miniaturized solid-contact polyvinyl chloride membrane electrode based on the bis[(2-(hydroxyethylimino)phenolato]copper(II) complex has been prepared for the determination of Cu(II) ion in real samples. The influence of coating membrane composition, pH, and possible interfering cations on the response of the ion-selective electrode was investigated. A number of membranes at different compositions were prepared and their Cu2+ sensing capabilities were investigated. The best results for Cu2+ sensing was obtained for the electrode membrane containing ionophore − 2-nitrophenyloctyl ether – polyvinyl chloride and potassium tetrakis(p-chlorophenyl)borate in a ratio of 4:65:30:1 (w/w, mg), respectively. The prepared electrode exhibited a near-Nernstian response (28.3 mV/decade) to Cu2+ in the concentration range from 1.0 × 10−6 to 1.0 × 10−1 mol/L with a limit of detection of 8.3 × 10−7 mol/L. The potentiometric response of the electrode was independent from the pH of the test solution in the pH range of 3.0–6.0. The electrode has a very short response time, about 15 s, and it can be used over a period of 3 months without any divergence in potential. The electrode has been successfully applied as an indicator electrode in potentiometric titration of Cu(II) ions with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid and in the determination of Cu(II) in wastewater of the copper processing industry.
