Synthesis of cuprous oxide/silver (Cu 2O/Ag) hybrid as surface-enhanced Raman scattering probe for trace determination of methyl orange. ROYAL SOCIETY OPEN SCIENCE 2023; 10:221623. Abstract
Recently, there have been publications on preparing hybrid materials between noble metal and semiconductor for applications in surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrates to detect some toxic organic dyes. However, the use of cuprous oxide/silver (Cu2O/Ag) to measure the trace amounts of methyl orange (MO) has not been reported. Therefore, in this study, the trace level of MO in water solvent was determined using a SERS substrate based on Cu2O microcubes combined with silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs). Herein, a series of Cu2O/Agx (x= 1-5) hybrids with various Ag amounts was synthesized via a solvothermal method followed by a reduction process, and their SERS performance was studied in detail. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy results confirmed that 10 nm Ag NPs were well dispersed on 200-500 nm Cu2O microcubes to form Cu2O/Ag heterojunctions. Using the as-prepared Cu2O and Cu2O/Agx as MO probe, the Cu2O/Ag5 nanocomposite showed the highest SERS activity of all samples with the limit of detection as low to 1 nM and the enhancement factor as high as 4 × 108. The logarithm of the SERS peak intensity at 1389 cm-1 increased linearly with the logarithm of the concentration of MO in the range from 1 nM to 0.1 mM.

Abstract
In this work, a magnetic core-shell composite zero-valent iron/copper-polyacrylate (ZVI/Cu-PAA) was synthesized by a simple liquid-phase reduction process and used for hexavalent chromium Cr(VI) removal from wastewater. The optimization experiments show that the optimal dosages of polyacrylate and Cu are 7.00 wt% and 8.25 wt%, respectively. The maximum adsorption capacity and removal rate of Cr(VI) by ZVI/Cu-PAA reached 106.12 mg g-1 and 99.05% at pH 5.5, respectively. Furthermore, the presence of coexisting ions such as Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, and NO3- had no significant effect on its Cr(VI) removal performance. The excellent performance of ZVI/Cu-PAA is attributed to that the modification of polyacrylate can not only give more active sites but also inhibit agglomeration of nano-metallic particles, while Cu doping promotes the electron generation and transformation of Fe(III)/Fe(II) and Cu(II)/Cu(I) redox cycles. This makes ZVI/Cu-PAA has rich active sites and excellent stability, and has broad application prospects in the remediation of Cr (VI) polluted wastewater. The magnetic core-shell composite ZVI/Cu-PAA has excellent Cr (VI) removal performance because of its rich active sites and high electron transformation efficiency.

Abstract
In order to obtain a synergistic antimicrobial effect of cuprous oxide nanoparticles (Cu2O NPs) and chitosan (CS) nanofibers, the nano Cu2O/CS nanofibrous scaffolds were synthesized in situ via two subsequent steps of chelation and reduction. The Cu2+ were stably chelated on CS nanofibrous scaffolds through the coordination of amino group (-NH2) and hydroxyl group (-OH) on CS with Cu2+, and then the chelated Cu2+ were reduced to nano Cu2O by Vitamin C under alkaline conditions. And by the measurements of XRD, XPS and FTIR-ATR, the results showed that Cu2O NPs were successfully deposited on the CS nanofibrous scaffolds. SEM clarified that the particle size of Cu2O gradually decreased and the shape changed from cubic to irregular with the increase of CuSO4 concentration. With the CuSO4 concentration of 0.02 and 0.04 mol·L-1, the Cu2O/CS nanofibrous scaffolds presented outstanding hydrophilicity and antibacterial activity against Gram-negative Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) comparing to the CS nanofibrous scaffolds, meanwhile, they possessed good biocompatibility. This kind of nanofibrous scaffolds deposited with nano Cu2O would have broad application prospects in the field of antibacterial biomaterials.

Abstract
The construction of metal-oxide heterojunction architecture has greatly widened applications in the fields of optoelectronics, energy conversions and electrochemical sensors. In this study, olive-like hetero-structured MnO-Mn3O4 microparticles wrapped by reduced graphene oxide (MnO-Mn3O4@rGO) were synthesized through a facile solvothermal-calcination treatment. The morphology and structure of MnO-Mn3O4@rGO were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The as-synthesized MnO-Mn3O4@rGO exhibited prominent catalyzing effect on the electroreduction of H2O2, due to the combination of good electrical conductivity of rGO and the synergistic effect of MnO and Mn3O4. The MnO-Mn3O4@rGO modified glassy carbon electrode provided a wide linear response from 0.004 to 17 mM, a low detection limit of 0.1 μM, and high sensitivity of 274.15 μA mM-1 cm-2. The proposed sensor displayed noticeable selectivity and long-term stability. In addition, the biosensor has been successfully applied for detecting H2O2 in tomato sauce with good recovery, revealing its promising potential applications for practical electrochemical sensors.
