Abstract
This work presents the modification of glassy carbon electrodes (GCE) by using a dispersion resulting from the non-covalent functionalization of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) with polyarginine (polyArg). MWCNT-polyArg is used for the quantification of ascorbic acid (AA) in the presence of acetaminophen (APAP) and viceversa. Since ascorbic acid and acetaminophen are strongly absorbed on GCE/MWCNT-polyArg, they can be detected in the presence of 4.0×10-5 M acetaminophen (and 3.0×10-5 M ascorbic acid) by using adsorptive stripping with media exchange and differential pulse voltammetry. Using water as the solvent for the MWCNT dispersion, the result was Z-potential of 0.053 ± 0.006 V. The developed sensor showed excellent specificity, sensitivity, stability and reproducibility compared to previously published sensors. The GCE/MWCNT-polyArg sensor shows a fast response time of ∼5 minutes, low limits of detection and quantification for AA (0.95 and 2.9 μM respectively) and APAP (0.27 and 0.82μM, respectively), high sensitivity of 0.0616 μA/M for AA or APAP 0.240μA/M. It was used to test its practicability by determining the concentration of AA or APAP (AA and APAP) in pharmaceutical samples. Finally, the simultaneous measurement of ascorbic acid and acetaminophen in pharmaceuticals showed a good correlation, with a maximum error and RSD of 4.5 and 5.1 %, respectively.

Abstract
Increased evidence has documented a direct association between Ciprofloxacin (CFX) intake and significant disruption to the normal functions of connective tissues, leading to severe health conditions (such as tendonitis, tendon rupture and retinal detachment). Additionally, CFX is recognized as a potential emerging pollutant, as it seems to impact both animal and human food chains, resulting in severe health implications. Consequently, there is a compelling need for the precise, swift and selective detection of this fluoroquinolone-class antibiotic. Herein, we present a novel graphene-based electrochemical sensor designed for Ciprofloxacin (CFX) detection and discuss its practical utility. The graphene material was synthesized using a relatively straightforward and cost-effective approach involving the electrochemical exfoliation of graphite, through a pulsing current, in 0.05 M sodium sulphate (Na2SO4), 0.05 M boric acid (H3BO3) and 0.05 M sodium chloride (NaCl) solution. The resulting material underwent systematic characterization using scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray analysis, X-ray powder diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. Subsequently, it was employed in the fabrication of modified glassy carbon surfaces (EGr/GC). Linear Sweep Voltammetry studies revealed that CFX experiences an irreversible oxidation process on the sensor surface at approximately 1.05 V. Under optimal conditions, the limit of quantification was found to be 0.33 × 10-8 M, with a corresponding limit of detection of 0.1 × 10-8 M. Additionally, the developed sensor's practical suitability was assessed using commercially available pharmaceutical products.

Abstract
In this work, an efficient and sensitive electrochemical sensor for the determination of ciprofloxacin (CIP) is reported. The sensor was prepared by using a carbon paste electrode (CPE) modified with a combination of bimetallic copper/cerium-based metal organic framework (Cu/Ce-MOF) and nickel doped zinc oxide nanoparticles (NZP). The modifiers were characterized by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and elemental mapping analysis (EDS). The electrochemical behavior of the modified electrode was studied by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The developed electrode was employed for the detection of CIP by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Under optimal conditions, the anodic peak current response of the electrode was linearly correlated with CIP concentration in the range of 0.75-100 μmol L-1 with a sensitivity of 1.29 μA μmol-1 L-1. The limit of detection and reproducibility of the method were 0.142 μmol L-1 and 2.7%, respectively. The developed sensor showed good selectivity to CIP against possible interferents. The method was applied to determine CIP in water, milk and urine samples. The results indicated that this method has potential to be applied in the analysis of residue CIP in complex matrices with high selectivity, and good reproducibility.

Abstract
In this work, we are pleased to present for the first time a 3D-printed electrochemical device using a lab-made conductive filament based on graphite (Gr) and polylactic acid (PLA) polymer matrix for the simultaneous detection of amoxicillin (AMX) and paracetamol (PAR). The sensor was properly characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and cyclic voltammetry (CV). Compared to the commercial glassy carbon electrode (GCE), the superior performance of the 3D-Gr/PLA electrode was verified with a 3.8-fold more favored charge transfer. A differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) method was proposed providing a linear working range of 4 to 12 μmol L-1 for both analytes and a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.80 and 0.51 μmol L-1 for AMX and PAR, respectively. Additionally, repeatability studies (n = 5, RSD < 5.7%) indicated excellent precision, and recovery percentages ranging from 89 to 109% when applied to synthetic human urine, saliva, and plasma samples, attested to the accuracy of the method. The studies also indicate that the sensor does not suffer significant interference from common substances (antibiotics and biomarkers) present in the biological fluids, which makes it a promising analytical tool considering its low-cost, ease of manufacturing, robustness, and electrochemical performance.

Abstract
Graphite sheet (GS) electrodes are flexible and versatile substrates for sensing electrochemical; however, their use has been limited to incorporate (bio)chemical modifiers. Herein, we demonstrated that a cold (low temperature) CO2 plasma treatment of GS electrodes provides a substantial improvement of the electrochemical activity of these electrodes due to the increased structural defects on the GS surface as revealed by Raman spectroscopy (ID/IG ratio), and scanning electron microscopy images. XPS analyses confirmed the formation of oxygenated functional groups at the GS surface after the plasma treatment that are intrinsically related to the substantial increase in the electron transfer coefficient (K0 values increased from 1.46 × 10-6 to 2.09 × 10-3 cm s-1) and with reduction of the resistance to charge transfer (from 129.8 to 0.251 kΩ). The improved electrochemical activity of CO2-GS electrodes was checked for the detection of emerging contaminant species, such as chloramphenicol (CHL), ciprofloxacin (CIP) and sulphanilamide (SUL) antibiotics, at around + 0.15, + 1.10 and + 0.85 V (versus Ag/AgCl), respectively, by square wave voltammetry. Limit of detection values in the submicromolar range were achieved for CHL (0.08 μmol L-1), CIP (0.01 μmol L-1) and SFL (0.11 μmol L-1), which enabled the sensor to be successfully applied to natural waters and urine samples (recovery values from 85 to 119%). The CO2-GS electrode is highly stable and inexpensive ($0.09 each sensor) and can be easily inserted in portable 3D printed cells for environmental on-site analyses.

Abstract
A novel conductive filament based on graphite (Gr) dispersed in polylactic acid polymer matrix (PLA) is described to produce 3D-electrochemical devices (Gr/PLA). This conductive filament was used to additively manufacture electrochemical sensors using the 3D pen. Thermogravimetric analysis confirmed that Gr was successfully incorporated into PLA, achieving a composite material (40:60% w/w, Gr and PLA, respectively), while Raman and scanning electron microscopy revealed the presence of defects and a high porosity on the electrode surface, which contributes to improved electrochemical performance. The 3D-printed Gr/PLA electrode provided a more favorable charge transfer (335 Ω) than the conventional glassy carbon (1277 Ω) and 3D-printed Proto-pasta® (3750 Ω) electrodes. As a proof of concept, the ciprofloxacin antibiotic, a species of multiple interest, was selected as a model molecule. Thus, a square wave voltammetry (SWV) method was proposed in the potential range + 0.9 to + 1.3 V (vs Ag|AgCl|KCl(sat)), which provided a wide linear working range (2 to 32 µmol L-1), 1.79 µmol L-1 limit of detection (LOD), suitable precision (RSD < 7.9%), and recovery values from 94 to 109% when applied to pharmaceutical and milk samples. Additionally, the sensor is free from the interference of other antibiotics routinely employed in veterinary practices. This device is disposable, cost-effective, feasibly produced in financially limited laboratories, and consequently promising for evaluation of other antibiotic species in routine applications.

Abstract
The release of tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) and methylene blue (MB) dye into the aquatic system uncontrollably caused major environmental and health problems; hence, their prevention required serious attention. Adsorption process is now being researched in order to increase adsorption efficiency and reprocess to alleviate environmental issues. The use of magnetic nanoparticle as an adsorbent for wastewater treatment has a lot of prospective. A magnetic iron oxide nanoparticle surface modified by Vasaka (Justicia adhatoda) leaf extract (JA-MIONs) is used to give a fast removal approach for MB dye and TCH antibiotics. Dynamic light scattering, UV-Vis and band gap measurement, powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy were operated to analyse the formation and size of these magnetic nanoparticles. The impacts of different factors such as contact time (30-150 min), adsorbate concentration (10-50 mg/L), pH (4-10), and adsorbent dose (2-10 mg) were explored. Adsorption kinetics and isotherms show that it follows the pseudo-first-order kinetic and the Freundlich isotherm, with maximum adsorption capacities of 76.92 mg/g for MB and 200 mg/g for TCH at 298 K. The reusability of the JA-MIONs eventually exhibited a decline in the adsorption percentage of MB and TCH after five and four times respectively. After the desorption-adsorption cycles, this adsorbent continued to exhibit significant adsorption capacity. This investigation furnished the significant reference data for the synthesis of JA-MIONs as a novel and auspicious adsorbent for the industrial clean-up of toxic dyes and heavily used antibiotics from water.

Abstract
The major problem facing humanity in the world right now is the sustainable provision of water and electricity. Therefore, it is essential to advance methods for the long-term elimination or removal of organic contaminants in the biosphere. Ciprofloxacin (CIP) is one of the most harmful pollutants affecting human health through improper industrial usage. In this study, a zinc tungsten oxide (ZnWO4) nanomaterial was prepared with a simple hydrothermal synthesis. The ZnWO4/Carbon black nanocomposites were fabricated for the determination of CIP. The nanocomposites were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersion X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Electrochemical studies were done using cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry methods. Based on the electrode preparation, the electrochemical detection of CIP was carried out, producing exceptional electrocatalytic performance with a limit of detection of 0.02 μM and an excellent sensitivity of (1.71 μA μM-1 cm-2). In addition, the modified electrode displayed great selectivity and acceptable recoveries in an environmental water sample analysis for CIP detection of 97.6% to 99.2%. The technique demonstrated high sensitivity, selectivity, outstanding consistency, and promise for use in ciprofloxacin detection. Ciprofloxacin was discovered using this brand-new voltammetry technique in a water sample analysis.

Abstract
This study reports a simple, fast, and low-cost detection of noradrenaline (NA) in wastewater using citrate-capped colloidal gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). The addition of NA to citrate-capped colloidal AuNPs generates a colour modulation that the bare eye can detect due to the aggregation of the colloidal AuNPs. The relationship between the NA concentration and colloidal AuNPs aggregation was further monitored by ultraviolet–visible light (UV–vis) spectroscopy in an aqueous solution. The method displayed a linear range of 0–500 μM with R2 = 0.99 and an LOD and LOQ of 42.2 and 140.5 μM. Application in an environmental sample collected from the Darville Wastewater Treatment Plant shows that this work provided a cost-effective and spectrophotometric method that could be used for monitoring contamination in wastewater.

Abstract
In the last few decades, pharmaceuticals, credited with saving millions of lives, have emerged as a new class of environmental contaminants. These compounds can have both chronic and acute harmful effects on aquatic ecosystems and consequently on human health. Therefore, there is an urgent need for the development of extremely sensitive, portable, and low-cost devices to perform analysis. In the present review article, recent reports on the application of various voltammetric and photo-electrochemical techniques using different electrode materials for the determination of antibiotic Ciprofloxacin (CIPRO) are reported. This review provides an insight into direct and indirect electrochemical approaches as well as the photoelectrochemical methods used for the determination of CIPRO. Emphasis is put on the applications of unmodified and modified carbon-based electrodes considering the modifier, supporting electrolytes, analytical method, concentration range, limit of detection, and real matrices. Carbon-based electrodes are the most used materials attributed to their commercial availability, reduced cost, high chemical stability, and non-toxicity.

Abstract
The growing prevalence of new toxins in the environment continues to cause widespread concerns. Pharmaceuticals, organic pollutants, heavy metal ions, endocrine-disrupting substances, microorganisms, and others are examples of persistent organic chemicals whose effects are unknown because they have recently entered the environment and are displaying up in wastewater treatment facilities. Pharmaceutical pollutants in discharged wastewater have become a danger to animals, marine species, humans, and the environment. Although their presence in drinking water has generated significant concerns, little is known about their destiny and environmental effects. As a result, there is a rising need for selective, sensitive, quick, easy-to-handle, and low-cost early monitoring detection systems. This study aims to deliver an overview of a low-cost carbon-based composite to detect and remove pharmaceutical components from wastewater using the literature reviews and bibliometric analysis technique from 1970 to 2021 based on the web of science (WoS) database. Various pollutants in water and soil were reviewed, and different methods were introduced to detect pharmaceutical pollutants. The advantages and drawbacks of varying carbon-based materials for sensing and removing pharmaceutical wastes were also introduced. Finally, the available techniques for wastewater treatment, challenges and future perspectives on the recent progress were highlighted. The suggestions in this article will facilitate the development of novel on-site methods for removing emerging pollutants from pharmaceutical effluents and commercial enterprises.

Abstract
Abstract
The accurate, simple, and selective reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) has been established and validated for the determination of an antibiotic ampicillin (AMP) in human blood plasma. The SPE extraction was used for the sample preparation. Chromatographic separation was accomplished by a mobile phase containing 15 mM monopotassium phosphate solution of pH 3.3 and methanol (75:25, v/v) in an isocratic mode at a flow rate of 1.4 mL min−1 at 30 °C. The separation was evaluated on a column with a new polar-endcapped C18 stationary phase Arion® Polar C18 or well-known phase Luna® Omega Polar C18. Excellent linearity (R
2 0.9998) was shown over range 10–300 mg L−1 with mean percentage recovery 90%. Peak shapes were symmetrical in both columns, Arion® Polar C18 and Luna® Omega Polar C18, with asymmetry factor of 1.0 and 1.4, tailing factor of 1.0 and 1.2, and retention factor of 4.6 and 5.6, respectively. The Arion® Polar C18 was almost 1.4-fold more effective than Luna® Omega Polar C18 phase. The LOQ for ampicillin was achieved 10 mg L−1 for Luna® Omega Polar C18 and 5 mg L−1 for Arion® Polar C18 using 20 µL of a solution containing 0.24 mg mL−1 of cephalexin as an internal standard.
A number of articles dealing with the determination of ampicillin is limited, therefore, this study showed the HPLC method suitable for the determination of AMP in human blood plasma from patient who underwent elective cardiac surgical revascularization. In addition, the determination of AMP was also performed for the first time using an Arion® Polar C18 column, which effectively separated AMP from other compounds present in human blood plasma. This new polar-endcapped phase can help in separation of polar antibiotics or other polar compounds, which are unsuccessfully separated on conventional C18 column, and thus can help during method development.

Abstract
A highly sensitive and novel electrochemical sensor for ciprofloxacin (CIP) has been developed using gold nanoparticles deposited with waste coffee ground activated carbon on glassy carbon electrode (AuNPs/AC/GCE) and combined with supramolecular solvent (SUPRAS). The fabricated AuNPs/AC/GCE displayed good electrocatalytic activity for AuNPs. The addition of SUPRAS, prepared from cationic surfactants namely didodecyldimethylammonium bromide (DDAB) and dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB), increased the electrochemical response of AuNPs. The detection of CIP was based on the decrease of the cathodic current of AuNPs. The electrochemical behavior of the modified electrode was investigated using cyclic voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Under optimum conditions, the calibration plot of CIP exhibited a linear response in the range 0.5-25 nM with a detection limit of 0.20 nM. The fabricated electrochemical sensor was successfully applied to determine CIP in milk samples with achieved recoveries of 78.6-110.2% and relative standard deviations of <8.4%. The developed method was also applied to the analysis of pharmaceutical formulation and the results were compared with high-performance liquid chromatography.Graphical abstract.

Batch injection analysis with amperometric detection for fluoroquinolone determination in urine, pharmaceutical formulations, and milk samples using a reduced graphene oxide-modified glassy carbon electrode. Anal Bioanal Chem 2021; 414:5309-5318. Abstract
In this work, the batch injection analysis system with amperometric detection using reduced graphene oxide as a modifier of glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was investigated for the simple, fast, and sensitive monitoring of levofloxacin (LEVO) and ciprofloxacin (CIPRO) in samples of pharmaceutical formulations, synthetic urine, and milk (low- and high-fat content). LEVO and CIPRO were quantified in seven samples using amperometric measurements at +1.10 V vs Ag/AgCl, KCl(sat). The developed methods showed excellent analytical performance with limits of detection of 0.30 and 0.16 μmol L-1, linear range from 3.0 to 50 μmol L-1 and 1.0 to 50 μmol L-1, relative standard deviation below 9.7 and 3.1%, and recovery ranges ranging from 80 to 107% and from 78 to 109% for LEVO and CIPRO, respectively. In addition, the minimum sample preparation (simple dilution) combined with a high analytical frequency (130 to 180 analyses per hour) can be highlighted. Thus, the methods are promising for implementation in routine analysis and quality control to different samples.

Abstract
Paracetamol (PA) is a ubiquitous non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, mainly used to treat headaches, arthritis and osteoarthritis and other diseases. In this work, a novel label free photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor based on Bi-CuS/Bi2WO6 has been developed for the detection of PA, which was fabricated by a simple two-step hydrothermal process. It was found that Bi-CuS/Bi2WO6 with a CuS/Bi2WO6 heterojunction and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of Bi possesses enhanced charge transfer and absorption wavelengths under visible light, particularly when compared to pristine Bi2WO6 films, thus producing an increase in the observed photocurrent. The photocurrent was increased after adding PA. And the photocurrent increment was linear with PA concentration in the range from 0.01-60 μM with a detection limit of 2.12 nM. Moreover, the PEC sensor also exhibited high anti-interference property and acceptable stability. In the present study, a Bi-CuS/Bi2WO6 photoelectrode is considered a promising candidate for carrying out PEC analysis.
