Abstract
The nurses work long hours and in various shifts, and often accompanied by depression, fatigue, and sleep disorders. Many studies have found that 25 hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) is related to mental health. We aimed to investigate the relationship between depression, sleep problems, fatigue, and serum 25(OH)D levels in shift nurses. We recruited 34 day-shift, 30 evening-shift and 31 night-shift nurses. The Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II), Numerical Rating Scale and General Sleep Disturbance Scale to evaluate the levels of depression, sleep problems, fatigue. Blood samples (20 ml) were collected under a fasting state to determine basic biochemistry and inflammatory parameters. In central of Taiwan, approximately 96.1% of shift nurses had deficient (< 20 ng/ml) (45 females and 1 male) and inadequate (20-29 ng/ml) (39 females and 2 male) 25(OH)D levels. Approximately 84.2% of shift nurses experienced fatigue. In sleep disturbance, night-shift nurses experienced significantly more severe sleep disturbance than day-shift and evening-shift nurses. However, no significant correlation was observed between 25(OH)D levels and mental health when the 25(OH)D level was categorized. 25(OH)D deficiency, sleep disturbance, depression, and fatigue were common in shift female nurses, but it was not possible to demonstrate the impact of 25(OH)D deficiency on the mental health of shift nurses in Taiwan.

Abstract
Background Currently, evidence on the role of stressful life events in fatigue among the Chinese working adults is lacking. This study aimed at exploring the prospective associations between stressful life events and chronic fatigue among Chinese government employees. Methods From January 2018 to December 2019, a total of 16206 government employees were included at baseline and they were followed-up until May 2021. A digital self-reported questionnaire platform was established to collect information on participants' health and covariates. Life events were assessed by the Life Events Scale (LES), fatigue was assessed by using a single item, measuring the frequency of its occurrence. Binary logistic regression analysis was used for the data analysis. Results Of the included 16206 Chinese government employees at baseline, 60.45% reported that they experienced negative stressful life events and 43.87% reported that they experienced positive stressful life events over the past year. Fatigue was reported by 7.74% of the sample at baseline and 8.19% at follow-up. Cumulative number of life events at baseline, and cumulative life events severity score at baseline were positively associated with self-reported fatigue at follow up, respectively. After adjusting sociodemographic factors, occupational factors and health behavior related factors, negative life events at baseline (OR: 2.06, 95% CI: 1.69–2.51) were significantly associated with self-reported fatigue at follow-up. Some specific life events including events related to work and events related to economic problems were significantly associated with self-reported fatigue. Specifically, work stress (OR = 1.76, 95%CI: 1.45–2.13), as well as not satisfied with the current job (OR = 1.95, 95%CI: 1.58–2.40), in debt (OR = 1.75, 95%CI: 1.40–2.17) were significantly associated with self-reported fatigue. The economic situation has improved significantly (OR = 0.62, 95%CI: 0.46–0.85) at baseline was significantly associated with lower incidence of self-reported fatigue. Conclusion Negative stressful life events were associated with fatigue among Chinese government employees. Effective interventions should be provided to employees who have experienced negative stressful life events.

Abstract
The need for recovery after work (NFR) is an important warning of work-related fatigue. NFR is linked to prolonged work-related efforts and depletion of resources, creating a need for temporary respite from work demands. The aim of the current study was to investigate the relationships between NFR and the five-factor model (FFM), comprising the personality traits of emotional stability (ES), extraversion (E), agreeableness (A), conscientiousness (C), and openness to experience (O). Perceived job pressure and perceived social support were included as mediators. The study was conducted using structural equation modelling (SEM) on cross-sectional data from a sample of 681 participants from several work sectors (N females = 376, N males = 305; M age = 46.9 years; SD = 11.1). The results showed that NFR was affected both directly and indirectly by FFM traits. High ES and high O contributed directly to reduced and increased NFR, respectively. High perceived social support contributed to reduced NFR, while high perceived job pressure contributed to increased NFR. High ES contributed indirectly to reduced NFR through perceived job pressure and social support, high O contributed indirectly to increased NFR through perceived social support, and high E contributed indirectly to increased NFR through perceived job pressure. A and C were not related to NFR. The findings demonstrate that personality traits, especially ES, are firmly related to NFR and highlight the importance of incorporating personality factors into studies of work environmental factors on NFR. Abstract
Background: China is launching an unprecedented health care system reform. However, the long-term interests of doctors seem to have been ignored during this process especially considering that the work environment and work-life balance for doctors have severely deteriorated over the past decade.Their well-being and health are facing substantial threats due to heavy workloads and inadequate recovery opportunities. This study aimed to investigate the extent of need for recovery (NFR) among Chinese doctors and to examine their work-related fatigue. The study also examines the relationship of NFR with workplace satisfaction and health outcomes among Chinese doctors. Methods: A total of 2,617 doctors from 30 administrative regions in China participated in this study to assess the need for recovery and its relationship with work characteristics and health. A cross-sectional survey was conducted using the Chinese version of the Need for Recovery Scale (NFRS). Participants were invited to complete an anonymous online survey during May 2016. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, reliability analysis, Pearson correlations, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Results: Significant differences in NFR scores were found across demographic characteristics such as age, service years, hospital levels, educational attainment, professional positions, work shifts, and working time. Regardless of any illnesses they might be experiencing, about 70.0% of participants remained at their job even though many doctors (22.1%) must continue working under the policies of the organization, which led to more pronounced NFR (P < 0.001). Further, a higher NFR was negatively related to workplace well-being and self-reported health outcomes of participants. Conclusions: Work-induced fatigue is a growing threat to doctors in China and their recovery opportunities are extremely limited in the workplace. High NFR exerts a considerable effect on their workplace well-being and health. China's hospital managers should pay close attention to the fact that doctors have little chance of recovery, and should offer doctors' positive encouragement and support to enhance well-being. To improve doctors' working conditions, targeted prevention policies must be introduced by policymakers to control this spreading crisis.

Abstract
Introduction: Work-related fatigue on workers are usually caused by some factors such as individual characteristics (age, work period, nutritional status) and rest break. This research aims to analyze the correlation between individual characteristics and rest break with work-related fatigue on telecommunication network service workers. Method: This research used an observational analytic and a cross-sectional approach. The population and sample in this research were all 32 workers at I-OAN unit in a telecommunication network service company. The independent variables in this study were age, work period, nutritional status, and rest break, while the dependent variable was work-related fatigue. Data were obtained throughquestionnaires about individual characteristics (age, work period, nutritional status) and rest break filled by workers. The data were also obtained through the Industrial Fatique Research Committee (IFRC) questionnaires filled by workers. All of the data in this study were analyzed with the Spearman correlation test (α = 0.05). Results: The majority of I-OAN unit workers are in the age range of 25-29 years (46.9%), have 3-4 years of work period (56.2%), and have normal nutritional status (40.6%). For the rest break variable, there are16 workers (50%) who have <30 minutes rest break and also 16 workers (50%) who have ≥ 30 minutes rest break. Conclusion: There is a correlation between individual characteristics and rest break with work-related fatigue on telecommunication network service workers.Keywords: individual characteristics, rest break, work-related fatigue

Abstract
AIMS To identify the level of workplace fatigue among midwives and factors influencing their fatigue. BACKGROUND Midwives who play an important role in medical care are prone to experience workplace fatigue, which negatively affects their well-being and work quality. METHODS A multi-centre cross-sectional study was conducted among 666 Chinese midwives from 38 hospitals in March 2019. Data were collected by four questionnaires of self-designed demographic questions, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the Social Support Self-Rating Scale and the 14-item Fatigue Scale. Descriptive statistics, univariate analysis and multiple linear regression were used to analyse the data. RESULTS Midwives had moderate levels of fatigue with the mean scores of physical fatigue, mental fatigue and total fatigue being 9.53, 6.25 and 15.79, respectively. Multiple linear regression results showed that sleep quality, social support, job satisfaction, occupational injuries, adverse life events, frequency of irregular meals and employment type were statistically significant factors influencing fatigue among the participants. CONCLUSIONS Physical and mental fatigue were generally common among midwives and were affected by personal-related and work-related factors, sleep quality and social support. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT Nurse administrators have the opportunity to advocate for improved health policy under the two children rule to prevent workplace fatigue amongst midwives.

Abstract
PURPOSES Since a considerable number of health care workers (HCWs) were sent to Wuhan to aid COVID-19 control during the epidemic, non-frontline HCWs who stayed in local hospitals had to work overload to provide daily health care services for other health issues, which makes them more vulnerable to experience fatigue. Self-efficacy is suggested as a protective factor for fatigue. Nonetheless, less is known regarding the underlying mechanisms. This research aimed to explore the prevalence of fatigue among non-frontline HCWs during the pandemic, investigate the mediating effect of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms and moderating effect of negative coping in the association between self-efficacy and fatigue. METHODS General Self-Efficacy Scale, PTSD Checklist-Civilian Version, Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire and 14-item Fatigue Scale were administrated to 527 non-frontline HCWs from Anhui Province, China. The mediating effect was examined by Mackinnon's four-step procedure, while Hayes PROCESS macro was used to test the moderated mediation model. RESULTS The prevalence of fatigue among non-frontline HCWs was 56.7%. The effect of self-efficacy on fatigue was partially mediated by PTSD symptoms (ab = -0.146, SE = 0.030, 95% CI = [-0.207, -0.095]). Additionally, negative coping moderated both the direct effect of self-efficacy on fatigue (β = -0.158, P<0.001) and the mediating effect of PTSD symptoms (β = 0.077, P = 0.008). When the standard score of negative coping increased to 1.49 and over, the direct association between self-efficacy and fatigue became insignificant. Likewise, the effect of self-efficacy on PTSD symptoms had no statistical significance when the standard score of negative coping was -1.40 and lower. CONCLUSIONS More than half non-frontline HCWs suffered from fatigue during COVID-19. For those who tend to use negative coping, it might be crucial to design programs combining the enhancement of self-efficacy, preventions for PTSD symptoms and interventions for fatigue.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This paper aims to estimate the level of acute fatigue, chronic fatigue and intershift recovery among doctors working at public hospitals in Malaysia and determine their inter-relationship and their association with work-related activities during non-work time. DESIGN Cross-sectional. SETTING Seven core clinical disciplines from seven tertiary public hospitals in Malaysia. PARTICIPANTS Study was conducted among 330 randomly-sampled doctors. Response rate was 80.61% (n=266). RESULTS The mean score of acute fatigue, chronic fatigue and intershift recovery were 68.51 (SD=16.549), 54.60 (SD=21.259) and 37.29 (SD=19.540), respectively. All these scores were out of 100 points each. Acute and chronic fatigue were correlated (r=0.663), and both were negatively correlated with intershift recovery (r=-0.704 and r=-0.670, respectively). Among the work-related activities done during non-work time, work-related ruminations dominated both the more frequent activities and the association with poorer fatigue and recovery outcomes. Rumination on being scolded/violated was found to be positively associated with both acute fatigue (adjusted regression coefficient (Adj.b)=2.190, 95% CI=1.139 to 3.240) and chronic fatigue (Adj.b=5.089, 95% CI=3.876 to 6.303), and negatively associated with recovery (Adj.b=-3.316, 95% CI=-4.516 to -2.117). Doing work task at workplace or attending extra work-related activities such as locum and attending training were found to have negative associations with fatigue and positive associations with recovery. Nevertheless, doing work-related activities at home was positively associated with acute fatigue. In terms of communication, it was found that face-to-face conversation with partner did associate with higher recovery but virtual conversation with partner associated with higher acute fatigue and lower recovery. CONCLUSIONS Work-related ruminations during non-work time were common and associated with poor fatigue and recovery outcomes while overt work activities done at workplace during non-work time were associated with better fatigue and recovery levels. There is a need for future studies with design that allow causal inference to address these relationships.

Abstract
Introduction. A physiotherapist's work requires constant focus, concentration and good physical constitution. Nowadays, we can observe an increasing demand for physiotherapist services, as the number of patients and working hours are increasing. As a result, physiotherapists experience growing work-related load and fatigue. The aim of this study was to assess the degree and characteristics of fatigue in physiotherapists, as well as to assess its effect on the accuracy of their functional diagnosis and the therapeutic treatment they propose. Methods. The study population consisted of 18 physiotherapists. To assess subjective fatigue, we used the Japanese questionnaire, and to assess the number of mistakes made, we used two films made by our group that presented a functional examination of patients. Results. The analysis of fatigue in physiotherapists after a day's work showed a significant decrease in activity, decrease in motivation and increase in physical fatigue. The number of mistakes made after a day's work increased. Conclusions. The study showed that the work of physiotherapists negatively affects the levels of activity, motivation and physical strength. Diagnostic accuracy and physiotherapy planning was worse after a day's work. The occupation of a physiotherapists was categorized as psychologically burdening.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES It is common to find doctors working long and odd hours and many at times without rest and sleep. Despite the evidence of adverse risk, jeopardizing patient safety under the hands of fatigue doctors under such working hours has not changed in many places. It has argued that with such training and subsequent experience, such issues with patient safety reduce. Fatigue too is argued as subjective, as those who can withstand the stress still perform. Nevertheless, undeniably working under fatigue is not safe for both the patient and the doctor. This study is a novel attempt to explore and objectify the state of fatigue using quantitative EEG among post-call doctors. METHOD Seven volunteer post-call doctors were recruited to go through an EEG recording before and after their on-call rotation while at rest and subsequently while carrying out Stroop Test, putting their cognitive function at work. RESULTS The doctors have worked up to 33 hours in a row and have had sleep of an average of 1.5 hours. It is found that during task there is a statistically significant increase in theta (frontal and occipital regions) and beta (occipital region) band power while at task post-call. Alpha band power is increased in the frontal and reduced in other regions. Correlation with Stroop Test results indicated that those who have higher alpha, beta, and lower relative theta powers at the frontal region at post-call rest have higher percentage of correct congruent trials. CONCLUSION The results objectively imply that these fatigue doctors are under more strain while carrying out a task and corresponds to the implicated regions of brain stimulated by the task accordingly.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Fatigue affects nurses negatively and leads to physical, cognitive and emotional problems that may influence nurses' quality of life. However, there is a lack of studies about prolonged fatigue and its relationship with socio-demographic characteristics and job-related psychosocial factors among nurses, especially emergency nurses, worldwide and in Jordan. AIMS This study aims to assess the relationship between demographic factors, physical health, psychological distress and job-related psychosocial factors (psychological job demands, job control and social support) and prolonged fatigue among emergency department nurses in Jordan. METHODS A descriptive correlational study using a convenience sample was used to recruit 153 emergency nurses. Physical health Questionnaire, General Health Questionnaire, Job Content Questionnaire and Checklist Individual Strength were used. RESULTS The majority of emergency nurses experienced abnormally prolonged fatigue, moderate health, high psychological distress, high job demands and low job control and social support. Significant negative relationships were addressed between job control, social support and prolonged fatigue, whereas income had a negative weak relationship. Psychological distress and job demands had a positive weak relationship with prolonged fatigue. There was a significant positive weak relationship between psychological distress, job demands and prolonged fatigue. Job-related psychosocial factors (with exception of social support) and mental health were the predictors of prolonged fatigue. CONCLUSIONS Prolonged fatigue is a multidimensional phenomenon that can be affected by several factors such as job-related psychosocial factors and psychological health. These factors should be taken into consideration when testing and developing interventions to minimise prolonged fatigue among emergency nurses.

Abstract
Introduction: Work-related fatigue is a common problem in the workplace that must be solved because it has an impact on the occurrence of workplace accidents, reduces productivity and affects workers’ health. A survey conducted by the National Safety Council on 2010 workers in 2017 stated that 69% of them experienced work-related fatigue and 13% of them could be attributed to workplace accidents. Other studies conducted by O'Neill and Panuwatwanich in 2013 stated the loss that could arise due to work-related fatigue is averaged around $ 1,000/week. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between work climate and physical workload with work-related fatigue on workers in the 5th warehouse of fabrication area of Bangun Sarana Baja Company. Metods: This study is an observational analytic with a cross-sectional approach with 30 respondents who were randomly selected using the simple random sampling method. Measurements of the work climate used heat stress apparatus by calculating the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature, and measurement of physical workload is carried out by observations referring to Indonesian national standard No. 7269 in 2009. Meanwhile, work-related fatigue is measured objectively by using reaction timer. Results: This study indicates the average work climate is exceeding TLV (28.4° C), and the majority of workers got a moderate physical workload (53.3%) and experience mild work-related fatigue (50%). Conclusion: There was no relation between work climate and work-related fatigue (p-value = 0.192) and there was a significant relationship between physical workload and work-related fatigue (p-value = 0.028, r = 0.400). Abstract
Objectives: “Karoshi” (death due to overwork) of doctors occurred frequently and attracted increasing attention in recent years in China. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of work-related accumulated fatigue of doctors and its associated factors in tertiary hospitals of China. Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was conducted on 1729 full-time doctors employed by 24 tertiary hospitals across eastern developed, central developing, and western underdeveloped regions of China. Accumulated fatigue was categorized into four levels using the “Self-diagnosis Checklist for Assessment of Workers’ Accumulated Fatigue” rated on a scale matrix considering both overwork and fatigue symptoms. Ordinal logistic regression analyses were performed to identify factors associated with work-related accumulated fatigue. Results: About 78.8% of respondents reported a “high level” of work-related accumulated fatigue, including 42.0% at a “very high” level. Male doctors and those aged between 30 and 45 years and who had a professional title were found to have higher levels of accumulative fatigue than others. Low salary and poor working conditions (in the western region) were also significantly associated with high levels of work-related accumulated fatigue (p < 0.05). Conclusion: High levels of work-related accumulated fatigue are prevalent in doctors working in tertiary hospitals in China. Male doctors establishing their early- and mid-careers are the high-risk group. Poor working conditions are associated with work-related accumulated fatigue.

Abstract
Work-related stress can negatively impact health care providers' (HCPs) ability to provide care. We examined the sources of work-related stress experienced by HCPs who provided medical care for people living with HIV/AIDS and the impact of the stress on HCPs' well-being and work performance. We conducted in-depth interviews with 46 HIV/AIDS HCPs in Guangxi, China. The interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed, and imported into NVivo V.11 for data management and data analysis using a thematic approach. We found that the key sources of stress at work included general work-related sources and HIV/AIDS-related sources. All stress was seen to have a substantial impact on the HCPs' individual well-being, family and social life, and quality of care they provided. We recommended that government and health care facilities should take measures to improve institutional culture and professional development for HIV/AIDS HCPs. More professional training schemes should be provided to strengthen HCPs' competence, improve universal protection from occupational exposure, and reduce the stigma toward HIV/AIDS patients and their care providers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Work-related fatigue is common among automobile factory employees. OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to assess fatigue of employees at a Chinese automobile factory. METHODS 238 employees (119 engineers and 119 workers) participated in this study. The following questionnaires were completed: demographic survey questionnaire, working condition questionnaire (WCQ), functional assessment of chronic illness therapy-fatigue (FACIT-F), subscales of multidimensional fatigue inventory (MFI), and Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI). RESULTS Both engineers and workers experienced fatigue. The workers (35.6 years old, SD = 6.7) generally felt more fatigue than engineers (42.6 years old, SD = 6.4). The engineers claimed to be more satisfied with the working conditions than workers. The WCQ showed good properties for assessing work-related factors, which were significantly correlated with fatigue (r = 0.568 for engineers and r = 0.639 for workers). For engineers, general fatigue was observed regularly and frequently, and for workers, physical fatigue usually had a long duration. CONCLUSIONS The fatigue was significantly correlated with work-related factors, especially working environment and monotony. For workers, the duration of the work day also affected their fatigue. Some improvements to the working condition in this automobile factory should be considered.

Abstract
The present study aimed to investigate the prevalence of fatigue and determine factors associated with fatigue in female medical personnel. Based on a cross-sectional study, a total of 1608 female medical personnel at 54 hospitals in Zhuhai, China were recruited by a multistage stratified cluster sampling method. The Symptoms Checklist-90-Revised and Chalder Fatigue Scale were used to assess psychiatric symptoms and fatigue, respectively. Data regarding demographic, health, and work related variables were also collected. Multivariate logistic regression model was constructed to determine the influencing factors of fatigue. Approximately 83% of participants had experienced fatigue in the past week. The risk of fatigue was higher in aged 30-39 years old than older or younger participants; Longer sleeping time predicted a lower prevalence of fatigue (OR = .35), while tense physician-patient relationship predicted a higher prevalence of fatigue (OR = 1.77). Depression (OR = 1.76) and anxiety (OR = 1.96) were found related to fatigue. Additionally, fatigue was associated with marital status, occupation, health related factors (exercise, regular diet, and health status), and work related factors (hospital rank and turnover intention). These study findings might facilitate development and implementation of targeted interventions and preventive measures.

Abstract
Introduction: Given that nurses are among professions with frequent problems of fatigue, and given the nature of their profession that provides little exposure to sunlight and the subsequent deficiency of vitamin D, the present study examined the relation between fatigue and circulating vitamin D levels in female nurses working in Shahid Beheshti Hospital, Kashan, Iran in 2013. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in 200 female nurses working in Shahid Beheshti Hospital. To measure fatigue, fatigue questionnaire containing 9 questions eliciting the subject’s feeling in scales of 1 to 7, getting a possible score of 9 to 63, and Visual Analogue Scale in which nurses specified their fatigue in a band of zero to 10 were used. The 25-hydroxyvitamin D, which is the most important vitamin D metabolite, also was determined. The data was analyzed by SPSS-16. The Pearson’s correlation of coefficients, t-test, and multiple regression analysis were used in this study. Results: The mean fatigue score of nurses was 38.76±12.66 in questionnaire and 5.73±2.12 in Visual Analog Scale. The 89 per cent of nurses suffered from vitamin D deficiency, 9.5 percent of them had normal level and 1.5 per cent had toxicity level of vitamin D. There was a significant relationship between vitamin D level and fatigue scores (P<0.0001), and visual fatigue scores (P<0.0001). According to multivariate regression analysis, vitamin D level accounted for 13 per cent of the fatigue based on data on questionnaire and 18.6 per cent of fatigue according to Visual Analog Scale. Conclusion: High prevalence of fatigue among nurses could be attributed to vitamin D deficiency.
