Abstract
The coexistence of multiple contaminates in the environment and food is of growing concern due to their extremely hazard as a well-known class I carcinogen, like aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) and benzo(α)pyrene (BaP). AFB1 and BaP are susceptible to coexistence in environmental water and edible oil, posing a significant potential risk to environmental monitoring and food safety. The remaining challenges in detecting multiple contaminates include unsatisfied sensitivity, insufficient targets selectivity, and interferences in complex matrices. Here, we developed dual-template magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers (DMMIPs) for selective extraction of dual targets in complex matrices from the environment and food. The DMMIPs were fabricated by surface imprinting with vinyl-functionalized Fe3O4 as carrier, 5,7-dimethoxycoumarin and pyrene as dummy templates, and methacrylamide as functional monomer. The DMMIPs showed excellent adsorption ability (12.73-15.80 mg/g), imprinting factors (2.01-2.58), and reusability of three adsorption-desorption cycles for AFB1 and BaP. The adsorption mechanism including hydrogen bond, electrostatic interaction and van der Waals force was confirmed by physical characterization and DFT calculation. Applying DMMIPs in magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) followed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis enabled detection limits of 0.134 μg/L for AFB1 and 0.107 μg/L for BaP. Recovery rates for water and edible oil samples were recorded as 86.2%-110.3% with RSDs of 4.1%-11.9%. This approach demonstrates potential for simultaneous identification and extraction of multiple contaminants in environmental and food.

Abstract
Sensitive and accurate analysis of pyrophosphate (PPi) is of great importance for preventing health hazard in environment. Nevertheless, most of sensors focus on sensitivity and selectivity, but practicality is also a significant quota. How to reconciling sensitivity, selectivity and practicability in one single sensor is desirable but remains challenging. Here, we created a novel metal-carbon nanozyme V2O5@C with two-dimensional (2D) morphology and high yet exclusive peroxidase (POD)-like activity via a glucose and NH4NO4-co-directed avenue, and further showed its application in constructing a portable and disposable paper-based analytical chip (PA-chip) for rapid, visual and onsite analysis of PPi. PPi etched V2O5 to prevent the decomposition of H2O2 into ·OH, resulting in weakened POD-like activity. In comparison with PPi deficiency, colorless TMB couldn't be oxidized into oxidized TMB with a dropped absorption at 652 nm. Therefore, obviously shallowed blue color on PA-chip surface was recorded, and demonstrated a negative relationship with PPi dosage, enabling rapid and visual detection of PPi with a limit of detection of 2.6 nM. This study demonstrated the burgeoning applications of nanozymes with POD-like activity in construction of PA-chips for PPi and will quicken the advancement of practical sensors, guaranteeing environmental safety.

Abstract
Fly ash (FA) and eggshells (ES) are common solid wastes with significant potential for the recovery of phosphorus from water. This study focuses on synthesizing a low-cost and environmental-friendly phosphate adsorbent called eggshell-fly ash geopolymer composite (EFG) using eggshells instead of chemicals. The CaO obtained from the high-temperature pyrolysis of eggshells provides active sites for phosphate adsorption, and CO2 serves as a pore-forming agent. The phosphate adsorption performance of EFG varied with the eggshell-fly ash ratios and achieved a maximum of 49.92 mg P/g at an eggshell-fly ash ratio of 40 %. The adsorption process was well described by the pseudo-second-order model and the Langmuir model. EFG also exhibited a good regeneration performance through six-cycle experiments and achieved the highest phosphate desorption at pH 4.0. The results of the column experiment showed that EFG can be used as a filter media for phosphorus removal in a real-scale application with low cost. Soil burial test indicated saturated EFG has a good phosphate slow-release performance (maintained for up to 60 days). Overall, EFG has demonstrated to be a promising adsorbent for phosphorus recovery.

Abstract
The effective purification of phosphate-containing wastewater is considered as increasingly important. In this study, a highly effective LC-CNT film was developed for efficient phosphate removal. Kinetic results showed that the adsorbent exhibited an improved mass transfer efficiency and a fast adsorption rate during adsorption (reaching 80% and 100% equilibrium adsorption capacity within 175 and 270 min, respectively). Kinetic model analysis suggested that the adsorption was a combined chemical physical process. Isotherm study revealed that the LC-CNT film showed a superior adsorption capacity (178.6 mg/g, estimated from the Langmuir model) with multiple adsorption mechanisms. pH study suggested that surface complexation and ligand exchange played important roles during adsorption, and the adsorbent worked well within the pH range of 3-7 with little La leakage. The ionic strength and competing anions showed little influence on the adsorbent effectiveness except for the carbonate and sulfate ions. The characterization and mechanism study revealed that the phosphate adsorption of the LC-CNT film was controlled by inner-sphere complexation, outer-sphere complexation and surface precipitation. The LC-CNT film also showed excellent regenerability and stability in cycling runs, further demonstrating its potential in industrial applications.

Abstract
Phosphate removal from water by lanthanum-modified tobermorite synthesized from fly ash (LTFA) with different lanthanum concentrations was studied. LTFA samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and Brunauer‒Emmett‒Teller specific surface area analysis. The results showed that the LTFA samples were mainly composed of mesoporous tobermorite-11 Å, and LTFA1 with a lanthanum concentration of 0.15 M had a high specific surface area (83.82 m2/g) and pore volume (0.6778 cm3/g). The phosphate adsorption capacities of LTFA samples were highest at pH 3 and gradually decreased with increasing pH. The phosphate adsorption kinetics data on LTFA samples were most accurately described by the Elovich model. The adsorption isotherms were in the strongest agreement with the Temkin model, and LTFA1 showed the highest phosphate adsorption capacity (282.51 mg P/g), which was higher than that of most other lanthanum-modified adsorbents. LTFA1 presented highly selective adsorption of phosphate with other coexisting ions (HCO3-, Cl-, SO42-, and NO3-). In addition, phosphate was adsorbed onto LTFA samples by forming inner-sphere phosphate complexes and amorphous lanthanum phosphate. This study provides technical support for development of efficient fly ash-based phosphate adsorbents.

Abstract
Biowaste-derived hydrochar is an emerging close-to-natural product and has shown promise for soil improvement and remediation, but the environmental behavior of the dissolved organic matter released from hydrochar (HDOM) is poorly understood. Focusing on the typical mulch film plasticizer diethyl phthalate (DEP), we investigated the effect of HDOM on the sorption behavior of DEP on soil. The relatively low concentration of HDOM (10 mg L-1, 25 mg L-1) decreases the sorption quantity of DEP on soil, while it increases by a relatively high concentration, 50 mg L-1. The transformation from multilayer to monolayer sorption of DEP on soil occurs as the concentration of HDOM increases. The tryptophan-like substance is the main component of HDOM sorbed to soil, reaching 49.82 %, and results in competition sorption with DEP. The soil pores are blocked by HDOM, which limits the pore filling and mass transfer of DEP, but partitioning is significantly enhanced. The surface functional groups in HDOM are similar to those in soil, and chemical sorption, mainly composed of hydrogen bonding, exists but is not significantly strengthened. We identified the specific impact of HDOM on the sorption of organic pollutants on soil and provide new insights into the understanding of the environmental behavior of hydrochar.

Abstract
The remediation of low-concentration phosphorus polluted surface water (LP-SW) is one of most challenging environmental issues worldwide. Adsorption is more suitable for LP-SW remediation due to its low cost and operability. Based on the strategy of functional complementation among industrial solid wastes (ISWs), ISW-based phosphate absorbent material (PAM) was prepared from coal ash (CA, binder), rich‑calcium (Ca) carbide slag (CS, active component) and iron salt (functional reagent) by optimizing materials ratios and roasting conditions. PAM prepared under optimal conditions (Fe/CC-2opt) had good phosphate adsorption efficiency. Notably, Fe/CC-2opt not only ensured that the effluent met Environmental Quality Standards for Surface Water (pH = 6.0-9.0), but also facilitated the formation of brushite instead of hydroxyapatite due to FeSO4 addition. Compared with hydroxyapatite, brushite had greater potential application value as fertilizer due to its solubility and high P/Ca ratio. The possible mechanisms of phosphate adsorption by PAM included surface precipitation, surface complexation, electrostatic adsorption and release of Ca2+/OH-. Preparation cost of PAM was 80 US$/ton, and treatment cost was 0.07 US$/g P. Regeneration efficiency of PAM was still above 80 % after five cycles. The design idea and result of this study provide theoretical basis and technical support for the preparation of PAM with low cost, commercial production and great adsorption capacity.

Abstract
Excessive phosphorus in water would cause eutrophication and deterioration of the ecological environment. Herein, the La-MOFs/Al2O3 composite was successfully prepared by the in situ hydrothermal synthesis method for granulation, which was conducive to exerting the phosphate adsorption capacity and facilitating practical application. The materials were characterized by SEM, EDX, XRD, BET, FTIR, and Zeta. In addition, the adsorption performance of La-MOFs/Al2O3 was evaluated through adsorption kinetics and isotherms, showing that the Langmuir adsorption capacity was 16.34 mgP·g-1 (25 °C) and increased with the water temperature. Moreover, the batch influence experiments of intimal pH, adsorbent dosage, coexisting ions, and stability tests were performed to analyze the potential for practical applications and verified through the natural micro-polluted water samples from Houxi River and Bailu Lake (China). The results indicated that the La-MOFs/Al2O3 was suited to a wide pH range of 4 to 10 and the phosphate removal efficiency remained above 70% after continuous use for four times, exhibiting excellent stability. It also had excellent selectivity in the presence of SO42-, Cl-, NO3-, and HCO3-, only decreased to 70.24% at high HCO3- ion concentration of 60 mg/L, respectively. And the La-MOFs/Al2O3 had excellent adsorption of total phosphorus, phosphate, and organic phosphorus in the actual river and lake water and completely removed dissolved phosphorus. Finally, a phosphate adsorption mechanism model involved in electrostatic interaction and ligand exchange was proposed. Therefore, La-MOFs/Al2O3 could be considered to be an excellent phosphorus adsorbent for application in the actual water environmental remediation.

Abstract
Industrial solid waste has a wide range of impacts, and it is directly or indirectly related to land, atmosphere, water, and other resources. Industrial solid waste has a large amount of production, complex and diverse components and contains a variety of harmful substances. However, as industrial by-products, it also has a lot of available value. Industrial solid waste has been continuously studied in water treatment due to its special composition and porous and loose structure. It is known that there are few reviews of various industrial solid wastes in the field of wastewater treatment, and most of them only discuss single industrial solid waste. This paper aims to sort out the different studies on various solid wastes such as fly ash, red mud, wastewater sludge, blast furnace slag and steel slag in dyeing, heavy metal, and phosphorus-containing wastewater. Based on the modification of industrial solid waste and the preparation of composite materials, adsorbents, coagulants, catalysts, filtration membranes, geological polymers, and other materials with high adsorption properties for pollutants in wastewater were formed; the prospect and development of these materials in the field of wastewater were discussed, which provides some ideas for the mutual balance of environment and society. Meanwhile, some limitations of solid waste applications for wastewater treatment have been put forward, such as a lack of further researches about environment-friendly modification methods, application costs, the heavy metal leaching, and toxicity assessment of industrial solid waste.

Abstract
It is widely recognized that wastewater containing boron is an environmental issue. Therefore, the development of adsorbents with excellent adsorption capacity, stability, and recyclability is essential in water treatment applications. A Fe3O4/PDA/Ti3C2Tx/PEI/DHHA nanocomposite has been prepared that can be used to separate and recover boric acid by adjusting the pH of the solution, based on the affinity theory of boric acid and cis-diol. Through series characterization, it was determined that the adsorbent possessed good magnetic properties, high hydrophilicity and high loading capacities. In this study, 4-formylphenylboronic acid (FPBA) was selected as the model compound. The nanocomposite exhibited an adsorption equilibrium time of 10 h and an adsorption capacity of 98.99 mg/g at pH = 8.5 and 25 °C. The Langmuir isothermal model and the quasi-secondary kinetic model are both appropriate for describing the adsorption process. Thermodynamic results suggest that adsorption is a spontaneous chemisorption process. Furthermore, the nanocomposite retains good regeneration performance after five adsorption-desorption cycles.

Abstract
The use of in situ active capping to control phosphorus release from sediment has attracted more and more attentions in recent years. It is important to identify the effect of capping mode on the control of phosphorus release from sediment by the in situ active capping method. In this study, the impact of capping mode on the restraint of phosphorus migration from sediment into overlying water (OW) by lanthanum hydroxide (LH) was studied. Under no suspended particulate matter (SPM) deposition condition, LH capping effectively restrained the liberation of endogenous phosphorus into OW during anoxia, and the inactivation of diffusive gradient in thin film-unstable phosphorus (UPDGT) and mobile phosphorus (PMobile) in the topmost sediment served as a significant role in the restraint of endogenous phosphorus migration into OW by LH capping. Under no SPM deposition, although the transformation of capping mode from the single high dose capping to the multiple smaller doses capping had a certain negative impact on the restraint efficiency of endogenous phosphorus liberation to OW by LH in the early period of application, it increased the stability of phosphorus in the static layer in the later period of application. Under SPM deposition condition, LH capping had the capability to mitigate the risk of endogenous phosphorus liberation into OW under anoxia conditions, and the inactivation of UPDGT and PMobile in the topmost sediment was a significant mechanism for the control of sediment phosphorus liberation into OW by LH capping. Under SPM deposition condition, the change in the covering mode from the one-time high dose covering to the multiple smaller doses covering decreased the efficiency of LH to limit the endogenous phosphorus transport into OW in the early period of application, but it increased the performance of LH to restrain the sedimentary P liberation during the later period of application. The results of this work suggest that the multiple LH capping is a promising approach for controlling the internal phosphorus loading in freshwater bodies where SPM deposition often occurs in the long run.

Abstract
We used magnesium slag (MS) as a calcium source for modifying coal gasification coarse slag (CGCS) in the presence of NaOH to prepare a novel phosphate adsorbent (MS-CGCS). Ca2SiO4 in MS reacts with NaOH during the high-temperature synthesis process, with sodium displacing a part of the calcium content in Ca2SiO4 and entering the mineral lattice to form Na2CaSiO4. Hydroxide ions reacted with calcium in Ca2SiO4 to generate Ca(OH)2 and decomposed into CaO at a high temperature. The two newly formed species participated in the phosphate removal. The MS-CGCS adsorbent showed good phosphate removal performance over a wide pH range, with a maximum phosphate adsorption capacity of 50.14 mg/g, which was significantly higher than that of other reported adsorbents. The Langmuir and pseudo-second-order models described the adsorption process well, indicating it being a monolayer and chemisorption process. The main mechanisms of phosphate removal are as follows: electrostatic interaction between the positively charged MS-CGCS and negatively charged phosphate ions; the inner-sphere complexation of oxides of metal, such as magnesium, aluminum, and calcium, with phosphate ions; and the precipitation of phosphate ions with calcium ions. Precipitation contributes to ~ 32% of the phosphate removal. This study provides a new method for the development of phosphate adsorbents while recycling CGCS and MS.

Abstract
Design of low-cost and high-removal efficiency phosphate adsorbents is of great significance for the control of eutrophication. In this study, fly ash and metakaolin were used as raw materials to evaluate the capability of phosphate adsorption and to investigate the mechanism of phosphate adsorption. The results of comparing the adsorption effect of geopolymers prepared with different modulus of alkali activator showed that the removal efficiency of phosphate in water at 0.8 M was on average 30.33% higher than 1.2 M. Therefore, FA + MK-0.8 had the maximum removal efficiency of 94.21% for phosphate in water with the maximum adsorption capacity of 36.02 mg/kg. In addition, the adsorption of phosphate could be well fitted by pseudo-second-order model and the process was mainly controlled by film diffusion. The alkali activation process can destroy the octahedral structure of the raw material, so the geopolymer are mainly tetrahedral in structure. Interestingly, new zeolite structures were formed in the mineral crystal phase of FA + MK-0.8, which may facilitate the adsorption of phosphate by geopolymers. Furthermore, the combined FTIR and XRD analysis results indicated that the underlying mechanisms of phosphate adsorption were electrostatic gravitation, ligand exchange, and surface complexation. This research not only synthesizes low-cost and high removal efficiency wastewater purification materials, but also provides a promising application for the elimination and resource utilization of industrial solid waste.

Abstract
Water pollution is increasing significantly owing to industrialization and population growth that lead to serious environmental and health issues. Therefore, the design and development of more effective wastewater treatment approaches are necessary due to a significant upsurge in demand for freshwater. More recently, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted attention in environmental science owing to their tunable porosity, unique structure, flexibility, and various composition. Despite these attractive advantages, some drawbacks, including intrinsic fragility, unsatisfied processability, dust formation, and poor reusability, have greatly limited their applications. Therefore, MOFs are often designed as supported-based MOFs (e.g., MOFs-coated composites) or 3D structured composites, such as MOFs-based hydrogels. MOFs-based hydrogels are excellent candidates in the sorption process because of their appropriate adsorption capacity, porous structure, good mechanical properties, durability as well as biodegradable features. In this review, the removal of different pollutants (e.g., synthetic dyes, phosphates, heavy metals, antibiotics, and some organic compounds) from aqueous media has been studied by the adsorption process using MOFs-based hydrogels. The important advancements in the fabrication of MOFs-based hydrogels and their capacities in the adsorption of pollutants under experimental conditions have been discussed. Finally, problems and future perspectives on the adsorption process using MOFs-based hydrogels have been investigated.

Abstract
Two sodalite phases (potassium sodalite (K.SD) and sodium sodalite (Na.SD)) were prepared using alkali fusion of kaolinite followed by a hydrothermal treatment step for 4 h at 90 °C. The synthetic phases were characterized as potential adsorbents for PO43− from the aqueous solutions and real water from the Rákos stream (0.52 mg/L) taking into consideration the impact of the structural alkali ions (K+ and Na+). The synthetic Na.SD phase exhibited enhanced surface area (232.4 m2/g) and ion-exchange capacity (126.4 meq/100 g) as compared to the K.SD phase. Moreover, the Na.SD phase exhibited higher PO43− sequestration capacity (Qmax = 261.6 mg g−1 and Qsat = 175.3 mg g−1) than K.SD phase (Qmax = 201.9 mg g−1 and Qsat = 127.4 mg g−1). The PO43− sequestration processes of both Na.SD and K.SD are spontaneous, homogenous, and exothermic reactions that follow the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-first-order kinetics. Estimation of the occupied active site density validates the enrichment of the Na.SD phase with high quantities of active sites (Nm = 86.1 mg g−1) as compared to K.SD particles (Nm = 44.4 mg g−1). Moreover, the sequestration and Gaussian energies validate the cooperation of physisorption and weak chemisorption processes including zeolitic ion exchange reactions. Both Na.SD and K.SD exhibit significant selectivity for PO43− in the coexisting of other common anions (Cl−, SO42−, HCO3−, and NO3−) and strong stability properties. Their realistic application results in the complete adsorption of PO43- from Rákos stream water after 20 min (Na. SD) and 60 min (K.SD).

Abstract
As the increase of global industrial activities, phosphate from industrial wastes such as sewage sludge has become one of the limiting factors for water eutrophication. Herein, lanthanum carbonate hydroxide (La(CO3)OH)/magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles functionalized porous biochar (La/Fe-NBC) with high phosphate adsorption properties is synthesized through molten salt pyrolysis-coprecipitation-hydrothermal multi-step regulation, and further reveal the related processes and mechanisms. La(CO3)OH functions as active sites for phosphate adsorption, Fe3O4 imparts magnetic properties to the composite substance, also porous biochar (NBC) acts as the carrier to prevent the agglomeration of La(CO3)OH and Fe3O4 nanoparticles. The adsorption process of La/Fe-NBC for phosphate fits to the Pseudo-Second Order and Langmuir model, with the theoretical maximum adsorption capacity up to 99.46 mg P/g. And La/Fe-NBC possesses excellent magnetic field (14.50 emu/g), stability, and selectivity, which enables for efficient multiple recovery and reuse. Mechanistic studies have shown that ligand exchange (inner-sphere complexation) between phosphate and carbonate/hydroxyl groups of La(CO3)OH, and electrostatic attraction play the dominant roles during adsorption process, although susceptible to the solution pH. While co-precipitation is not influenced of pH conditions but with limited contribution to phosphate adsorption. This study may facilitate to optimize the synthesis design of phosphate multi-functional composites for low-carbon and sustainable treatment of industrial phosphate-containing wastes.

Abstract
Zeolite supported amorphous metal oxide nanolayers with high specific surface area, abundant adsorption sites, and excellent reusability hold a bright prospect in the efficient removal of contaminants, yet it is proven to be still challenging to precisely regulate and control their synthesis. Herein, we reported a facile synthetic strategy for rational design and achieving the uniform and firm in situ growth of an amorphous ZrO2 layer decorated on the surface of zeolite (ZEO@AZ) for enhanced phosphate adsorption. The Langmuir isotherm model and pseudo-second order kinetic equation well described the adsorption process towards phosphate solution, and the synthetized ZEO@AZ exhibited an excellent maximum adsorption amount of 24.98 mgP g-1. Furthermore, the adsorption of phosphates on ZEO@AZ was confirmed to be chemisorption, endothermic and spontaneous. This approach for fabricating amorphous metal oxide nanolayers on a robust matrix may provide a new route for constructing composites with superb phosphate adsorption performance.

Abstract
A series of novel cerium-doped MIL-101-NH2 materials were synthesized using the solvothermal method for the simultaneous efficient removal of phosphate and As(V). According to the characterization results, cerium was successfully loaded onto MIL-101-NH2 and that Ce-MOFs might be generated during the loading process, which modified the crystal structure of MIL-101-NH2 and resulted in MOFs with different microstructures. In single-uptake systems containing only phosphate or As(V), isothermal adsorption experiments showed that 1Ce-MIL-101-NH2 exhibited better adsorption properties of phosphate and As(V) than MIL-101-NH2. Furthermore, the uptake amounts of phosphate and As(V) reached 341.5 mg/g and 249 mg/g, respectively. Superior uptake amounts for binary phosphate (167.36 mg/g) and As(V) (87.55 mg/g) were achieved with 1Ce-MIL-101-NH2. Kinetic experiments revealed a higher uptake rate of phosphate than of As(V). FT-IR and XPS analyses showed that the main mechanism for the removal of phosphate and As(V) from water by 1Ce-MIL-101-NH2 was the formation of an Fe/CeOP inner complex through ligand complexation and electrostatic attraction. Furthermore, 1Ce-MIL-101-NH2 exhibited high selectivity and excellent efficiency in removing phosphate and As(V) in contaminated spring water in the presence of competing anions; this further confirms the application potential of the novel adsorbent.

Abstract
Zeolite impeded geopolymer (Z/G) was synthesized from natural kaolinite and diatomite. The structure (Z/G) was characterized as an enhanced adsorbent for PO43- and NH4+ ions from aqueous solutions, groundwater, and sewage water. The synthetic Z/G structure exhibits sequestration capacities of 206 mg/g and 140 mg/g for PO43- and NH4+, respectively which are higher values than the recognized results for the geopolymer and other adsorbents in literature. The sequestration reactions of PO43- and NH4+ by Z/G are of Pseudo-Second order kinetic behavior considering both the Chi-squared (χ2) and correlation coefficient (R2) values. The sequestration reactions occur in homogenous and monolayer forms considering their agreement with Langmuir behavior. The Gaussian energies (12.4 kJ/mol (PO43-) and 10.47 kJ/mol (NH4+)) demonstrate the operation of a chemical sequestration mechanism that might be involved zeolitic ion exchange process and chemical complexation. Additionally, these reactions are exothermic processes of spontaneous and favorable properties based on thermodynamic studies. The Z/G structure is of significant affinity for both PO43- and NH4+ even in the existence of other anions as Cl-, HCO3-, SO42-, and NO3-. Finally, the structure used effectively in the purification of groundwater and sewage water from PO43- and NH4+ in addition to nitrate, sulfate, and some metal ions.

Abstract
Phosphates and organophosphorus cause environmental pollution, and excessive phosphate leads to water eutrophication. Glyphosate, an organophosphorus herbicide, harms the environment and human health. In this study, regenerable magnetic AL/Fe3O4/La(OH)3 adsorbents were developed by modifying Fe3O4 and La(OH)3 on aminated lignin (AL) for phosphate and glyphosate removal. The adsorption capacity for phosphate and glyphosate reached 60.36 mg g-1 and 83.87 mg g-1 when the initial concentrations were 150 mg L-1 and 250 mg L-1, respectively. The thermodynamic data showed that adsorption is a spontaneous and endothermic process. Adsorption can be applied at pH values ranging from 3 to 11 and is more suitable under acidic conditions. Fe3O4 and La(OH)3 both enhanced the adsorption capacities of phosphate and glyphosate. Phosphate and glyphosate compete slightly when coexisting in the adsorption process at low concentrations. Due to the magnetic properties of Fe3O4, the adsorbents can be separated rapidly and effectively with an external magnetic field. 89% adsorption capacity remained after four adsorption-desorption recycles. Thus, AL/Fe3O4/La(OH)3 shows potential for phosphate and glyphosate removal as an effective and reusable adsorbent.

Ethylenediamine and Pentaethylene Hexamine Modified Bamboo Sawdust by Radiation Grafting and Their Adsorption Behavior for Phosphate. APPLIED SCIENCES-BASEL 2021. Abstract
Phosphate is an important component for the growth of plants and microorganisms; however, excess phosphate causes serious eutrophication in natural waters. New potential low-loss adsorbents from natural biomass for phosphate removal are desired. Bamboo is one of the most abundant renewable cellulose resources; however, the pure bamboo cellulose is poor to adsorb phosphate. To enhance the adsorption capacity, in this work, bamboo sawdust (BS) was chemically modified by two kinds of amines. First, glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) was grafted on BS using radiation induced graft polymerization. Then, the GMA-grafted BS was further modified by a ring-opening reaction with amines, including ethylenediamine (EDA) and pentaethylene hexamine (PEHA). The amine groups were then quaternized to prepare the BS-GMA-EDA-Q and BS-GMA-PEHA-Q adsorbents. The adsorbents were characterized by FTIR, SEM, TG, and XPS analysis. The adsorption performances of the adsorbents for phosphate were evaluated through batch experiments. The adsorption by BS-GMA-EDA-Q and BS-GMA-PEHA-Q both well obeyed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the Langmuir isotherm model, indicating that the adsorption process was chemical monomolecular layer adsorption. The maximum adsorption capacities for BS-GMA-EDA-Q and BS-GMA-PEHA-Q calculated by the Langmuir model were 85.25 and 152.21 mg/g, respectively. A total of 1 mol/L HCl was used to elute the saturated adsorbents. A negligible decrease in adsorption capacity was found after five adsorption–desorption cycles.
