Abstract
The pore surface structure and chemistry of the ordered mesoporous silica adsorbent (KIT-6) were modified for toluene removal, including the substituent groups on the silica surface and the pore size uniformity. Uniform pore size was obtained by low-temperature heat treatment of the template at 200 °C. In the dynamic adsorption process, better channel uniformity led to higher adsorption capacity under no humidity condition because of faster pore diffusion. However, better channel uniformity resulted in poor hydrophobicity under high humidity condition because it favors the adsorption of water vapor to a greater extent. The result of Biot number indicated that triphenyl-grafted KIT-6 had a faster intraparticle mass transfer rate than pure KIT-6. Triphenyl-grafted KIT-6 had a higher adsorption capacity for toluene as compared to phenyl-grafted KIT-6 under no humidity condition because of its higher surface area ( SA). The higher SA was owing to the low modification of phenyl, which was caused by the isolated grafting of silicon triphenyl rather than a more even coverage by silicon phenyl. As a result, triphenyl-grafted KIT-6 exposed more hydrophilic Si-O-Si groups and therefore was less hydrophobic than phenyl-grafted KIT-6.

Abstract
We performed molecular simulations to investigate the adsorption and diffusion of benzene in metal-organic framework Mg-MOF-74. At 300 K and 20 Pa, the saturated loading of benzene reaches 8.2 mmol/g, almost twice of (12,12) single-walled carbon nanotube with a similar pore size, and 93% of the benzene molecules in Mg-MOF-74 can desorb at 390 K. The energy analysis indicates that the van der Waals contribution still dominates 70-80% of the total fluid-wall interaction energy compared with the Coulombic contribution. We further analyzed the structure of benzene confined in Mg-MOF-74 by the molecular snapshots, pair correlation functions, orientational order parameters, and local density profiles. It is found that low temperature and high pressure make the structure of adsorbed benzene more similar to that of the liquid benzene. Moreover, the benzene molecules in the contact adsorption layer lie flat on the surface of adsorbent, whereas those molecules near the pore center have no particular orientations. Due to the existence of open metal sites, the structures of adsorbed benzene are more compact and ordered than those of bulk liquid benzene. Consequently, the self-diffusion coefficient of saturated benzene in Mg-MOF-74 at 300 K is significantly lower than that of bulk liquid benzene and confined liquid benzene in slit pores and disordered carbons by 4-5 orders of magnitude. We investigated the separation and diffusion of benzene/cyclohexane in the mixture in Mg-MOF-74 and found that the pores almost completely adsorbed benzene, although its self-diffusion coefficient was slightly lower than that of cyclohexane.

Abstract
High-silica zeolites have been found to be effective adsorbents for the removal of organic micro-pollutants (OMPs) from impaired water, including various pharmaceuticals, personal care products, industrial chemicals, etc. In this review, the properties and fundamentals of high-silica zeolites are summarised. Recent research on mechanisms and efficiencies of OMP adsorption by high-silica zeolites are reviewed to assess the potential opportunities and challenges for the application of high-silica zeolites for OMP adsorption in water treatment. It is concluded that the adsorption capacities are well-related to surface hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity and structural features, e.g. micropore volume and pore size of high-silica zeolites, as well as the properties of OMPs. By using high-silica zeolites, the undesired competitive adsorption of background organic matter (BOM) in natural water could potentially be prevented. In addition, oxidative regeneration could be applied on-site to restore the adsorption capacity of zeolites for OMPs and prevent the toxic residues from re-entering the environment.

Abstract
Abstract
This study provides theoretical support to a recent promising ZSM5 catalyst used for the selective desulfurization of light diesel type compounds (Al-Bogami and de Lasa 2013; Al-Bogami, Moreira, and de Lasa 2013). With this end, Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations employing a rigid silicalite structure are developed to calculate self-diffusivities of n-Dodecane (n-C12) and Benzothiophene (BZT) in a silicalite structure. The simulations are performed at 573 K, 623 K, 673 K and 723 K at a fixed loading of 1 molecule per unit cell to study the temperature effect on diffusivity coefficient. In addition, a number of simulations which are developed to investigate four molecule loadings (corresponding to 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1 molecule per zeolite unit cell) at 723 K. MD simulations, show a self diffusivity of BZT one order of magnitude higher than that of n-C12 self diffusivity at all temperatures investigated. This is the case in spite of BZT having a critical molecular diameter of 6 Å when compared to the 4.9 Å diameter of n-C12. In addition, the self diffusivity coefficient is found to increase with temperature for both n-C12 and BZT. Furthermore, the results obtained show that the self diffusivity of n-C12 decreases as the number of n-C12 molecules per zeolite unit cell increases. On the other hand, it is observed that the self-diffusivity coefficient for BZT remains fairly constant and drops at a loading of 1 molecule per zeolite unit cell only. These coefficients show that differences in n-C12 and benzothiophene diffusivities favours desulfurization with selective benzothiophene adsorption and sulfur species removal as coke (Al-Bogami and de Lasa 2013).
