A study on the learning experience of visitors of digital museums in STEAM education: From the perspective of visitors' visual evaluation

Public education in museums has the interdisciplinary nature of STEAM education contemporary learning. In the contemporary learning process of the public, digital museums can rely on mobile terminals to provide people with opportunities for mobile learning. Especially since the global outbreak of COVID-19, many offline museums have been forced to close their doors or impose restrictions. How to use digital museums to better carry out the learning experience of visitors is a problem worthy of attention. Effective dissemination of visual information can help digital museums conduct educational activities more efficiently. The purpose of this study was to explore a research method for visual evaluation of visitors' learning experiences in digital museums. The visual evaluation of visitors in the digital museum learning experience involves the layout of exhibition content, the form of exhibition space, and the way of display of exhibits. Through eye-tracking engineering experiments, we obtain and analyze the visual data of visitors during the educational experience of the digital museum to form an accurate evaluation. This method can be used to assess the visual satisfaction of visitors with the educational experience of a digital museum in mobile learning. This kind of evaluation research can provide strong data support and design optimization direction guidance for the development of digital museum public education.

The past, present, and future of real-time control in cellular electrophysiology

For over 60 years, real-time control has been an important technique in the study of excitable cells. Two such control-based technologies are reviewed here. First, voltage-clamp methods revolutionized the study of excitable cells. In this family of techniques, membrane potential is controlled, allowing one to parameterize a powerful class of models that describe the voltage-current relationship of cell membranes simply, flexibly, and accurately. Second, dynamic-clamp methods allow the addition of new, "virtual" membrane mechanisms to living cells. Dynamic clamp allows researchers unprecedented ways of testing computationally based hypotheses in biological preparations. The review ends with predictions of how control-based technologies will be improved and adapted for new uses in the near future.

GenNet: A Platform for Hybrid Network Experiments

We describe General Network (GenNet), a software plugin for the real time experimental interface (RTXI) dynamic clamp system that allows for straightforward and flexible implementation of hybrid network experiments. This extension to RTXI allows for hybrid networks that contain an arbitrary number of simulated and real neurons, significantly improving upon previous solutions that were limited, particularly by the number of cells supported. The benefits of this system include the ability to rapidly and easily set up and perform scalable experiments with hybrid networks and the ability to scan through ranges of parameters. We present instructions for installing, running and using GenNet for hybrid network experiments and provide several example uses of the system.

A library of analog operators based on the hodgkin-huxley formalism for the design of tunable, real-time, silicon neurons

In this paper, we present a library of analog operators used for the analog real-time computation of the Hodgkin-Huxley formalism. These operators make it possible to design a silicon (Si) neuron that is dynamically tunable, and that reproduces different kinds of neurons. We used an original method in neuromorphic engineering to characterize this Si neuron. In electrophysiology, this method is well known as the "voltage-clamp" technique. We also compare the features of an application-specific integrated circuit built with this library with results obtained from software simulations. We then present the complex behavior of neural membrane voltages and the potential applications of this Si neuron.

Selective T-type calcium channel block in thalamic neurons reveals channel redundancy and physiological impact of I(T)window

Although it is well established that low-voltage-activated T-type Ca(2+) channels play a key role in many neurophysiological functions and pathological states, the lack of selective and potent antagonists has so far hampered a detailed analysis of the full impact these channels might have on single-cell and neuronal network excitability as well as on Ca(2+) homeostasis. Recently, a novel series of piperidine-based molecules has been shown to selectively block recombinant T-type but not high-voltage-activated (HVA) Ca(2+) channels and to affect a number of physiological and pathological T-type channel-dependent behaviors. Here we directly show that one of these compounds, 3,5-dichloro-N-[1-(2,2-dimethyl-tetrahydro-pyran-4-ylmethyl)-4-fluoro-piperidin-4-ylmethyl]-benzamide (TTA-P2), exerts a specific, potent (IC(50) = 22 nm), and reversible inhibition of T-type Ca(2+) currents of thalamocortical and reticular thalamic neurons, without any action on HVA Ca(2+) currents, Na(+) currents, action potentials, and glutamatergic and GABAergic synaptic currents. Thus, under current-clamp conditions, the low-threshold Ca(2+) potential (LTCP)-dependent high-frequency burst firing of thalamic neurons is abolished by TTA-P2, whereas tonic firing remains unaltered. Using TTA-P2, we provide the first direct demonstration of the presence of a window component of Ca(2+) channels in neurons and its contribution to the resting membrane potential of thalamic neurons and to the Up state of their intrinsically generated slow (<1 Hz) oscillation. Moreover, we demonstrate that activation of only a small fraction of the T-type channel population is required to generate robust LTCPs, suggesting that LTCP-driven bursts of action potentials can be evoked at depolarized potentials where the vast majority of T-type channels are inactivated.
