Abstract
OBJECTIVE To review the available prospective literature on hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy for periodontal conditions. MATERIALS AND METHODS A comprehensive electronic and manual search was performed to identify clinical studies on adult patients who underwent hyperbaric oxygen therapy for periodontal treatments. A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, Cochrane, and Dentistry Oral Sciences Source databases. RESULTS Fourteen articles were included in the final literature review, of which five were RCTs and 11 were prospective clinical studies. Four studies discussed HBO as an adjunct to nonsurgical treatment of periodontitis, eight reported on HBO and osteoradionecrosis, and one examined HBO in bisphosphonate-related necrosis of the jaws. CONCLUSIONS HBO has shown superior efficacy compared to antibiotics as a prophylactic measure in preventing osteoradionecrosis (ORN) in patients with a history of high mandibular irradiation. Clinicians should consider referring such patients for HBO therapy before and after tooth extractions. However, for the surgical excision of existing ORN lesions, HBO therapy does not yield significant benefits but does not negatively impact outcomes either. Regarding the treatment of periodontitis patients, the variability among studies prevents definitive conclusions. HBO therapy as an adjunct to SRP in periodontitis treatment produces mixed results. CLINICAL RELEVANCE This study's clinical relevance lies in its exploration of the potential benefits of HBO for periodontal conditions. Also, it provides clinicians with insights into when and how to integrate HBO therapy into their treatment approaches, particularly for patients with a history of irradiation and those undergoing complex dental procedures.

Abstract
Background The quality of life decreases in patients with sudden hearing loss due to hearing problems. In addition, complications due to hyperbaric oxygen therapy can reduce the quality of life. Aim This study was conducted to examine the efficacy of nurse-led hyperbaric oxygen therapy in improving the quality of life in patients with sudden hearing loss. Subjects and Methods This one-group pretest-posttest design study was conducted with 34 patients with Sudden Hearing Loss who applied to a university hospital for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy between November 2018 and February 2019. The data were collected using the Patient Information Form, World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale (WHOQOL-BREF), and Pure Tone Threshold Audiogram. Results WHOQOL-BREF's quality of life rating (2.59 ± 0.86-3.68 ± 0.59), satisfaction with health status (2.65 ± 0.69-3.62 ± 0.60), physical domain (11.58 ± 2.08-14.84 ± 2.38), psychological domain (12.80 ± 2.21-15.82 ± 2.26), social domain (14.63 ± 3.09-16.78 ± 2.67) and environmental domain (14.25 ± 2.55-16.34 ± 2.60) mean scores significantly increased compared to the pre-treatment scores (p < 0.001). The presence of an acute illness in the last month, the persistence of sudden hearing loss symptoms, level of hearing loss, presence of chronic illness, and smoking were found to affect the quality of life. Conclusions At the end of the nurse-led hyperbaric oxygen therapy in patients with sudden hearing loss, the quality of life increased and the hearing loss decreased. The most important factor affecting the quality of life was the persistence of symptoms of sudden hearing loss.

Abstract
The number of patients presenting with osteoradionecrosis (ORN) is likely to increase in future and health related quality of life (HRQOL) is a key outcome. This study aimed to report patient concerns and HRQOL in an osteoradionecrosis cohort over 12 years. Patients attended routine follow-up clinics between 2008 to 2020, where patient reported outcome (PRO) assessment was used before consultations as standard practice. The two PROs were the Patient Concerns Inventory (PCI) and the University of Washington quality of life questionnaire (UW-QOL v4). The study sample comprised 109 patients with ORN seen in 445 clinics when PCI and UW-QOL were used. At clinic, patients were in one of six ORN states: before ORN (26 with data), at diagnosis (12), and following treatment either improved (27), progressed (46), stable (63) or resolved (37). Worst HRQOL outcomes were reported in the progressive group with 50% reporting overall QOL as less than good. Pain was a major dysfunction (63%) as was physical and social-emotional functioning and this group reported many PCI issues, median (IQR) 7 (4-11). Kaplan-Meier estimates of survival with 95% CI after diagnosis with ORN were 96% (90-99%) at 12 months, 89% (81-94%) at 24 months and 73% (61-82%) at 60 months. This study indicates that ORN is a chronic condition with long-term survivorship consequences. More data through cohort studies and trials are needed to assist in decision making for individual patients.

Abstract
Radiotherapy (RT) is used to treat approximately 80% of patients with cancer of the head and neck. Despite enormous advances in RT planning and delivery, a significant number of patients will experience radiation-associated toxicities, especially those treated with concurrent systemic agents. Many effective management options are available for acute RT-associated toxicities, but treatment options are much more limited and of variable benefit among patients who develop late sequelae after RT. The adverse impact of developing late tissue damage in irradiated patients may range from bothersome symptoms that negatively affect their quality of life to severe life-threatening complications. In the region of the head and neck, among the most problematic late effects are impaired function of the salivary glands and swallowing apparatus. Other tissues and structures in the region may be at risk, depending mainly on the location of the irradiated tumor relative to the mandible and hearing apparatus. Here, we review the available evidence on the use of different therapeutic strategies to alleviate common late sequelae of RT in head and neck cancer patients, with a focus on the critical assessment of the treatment options for xerostomia, dysphagia, mandibular osteoradionecrosis, trismus, and hearing loss.

Abstract
Osteoradionecrosis (ORN) is a known complication to radiation therapy for head and neck cancer with a prevalence of 5–7% among radiated patients. Treatment might include dental surgery and reconstruction of the jawbone as well as hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBOT). HBOT takes place in a closed compartment where patients are breathing 100% oxygen under pressure for 90 minutes once a day every weekday for 6 weeks. In Denmark, HBOT is available at two facilities with very different organizational set-ups.
