Abstract
This randomized controlled study aimed to determine the effectiveness of yoga and laughter yoga approaches in enhancing psychological resilience of mothers with babies hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit. The Mothers were randomized into three groups as yoga, laughter yoga, and control groups. The mothers received a total of 10 yoga/laughter yoga sessions for 45 minutes twice a week as home-based exercises. Depression, anxiety, stress, and psychological resilience outcomes were evaluated at baseline and after 5th and 10th sessions. The study was completed with 60 mothers including 20 mothers in the yoga group, 19 mothers in the laughter yoga group, and 21 mothers in the control group. There were statistically significant differences between the groups in terms of depression, anxiety, stress, and psychological resilience after 5th and 10th sessions. Yoga and laughter yoga was effective for increasing psychological resilience and alleviating depression, anxiety, stress.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients undergoing radiation therapy (RT) often experience anxiety, which may jeopardize the treatment success. The efficacy of music interventions in reducing anxiety remains contentious. This randomized trial aimed to evaluate the impact of music listening on anxiety symptoms in patients undergoing initial RT. METHODS First-time RT patients were randomly allocated to experimental and control groups. The Brief Symptom Rating Scale (BSRS-5), Distress Thermometer (DT), and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI-C) were administered pre- and post-RT. Changes in physiological anxiety symptoms were monitored over 10 consecutive days starting from the first day of RT. The experimental group received music during RT; the control group did not. The generalized linear mixed model was used to estimate the pre-post difference in the BSRS-5, DT, and BAI-C scores between the music intervention and control group. RESULTS This study included 50 patients each in the experimental and control groups. BSRS-5 and DT scores were significantly reduced in the experimental group post-RT (p = 0.0114 and p = 0.0023, respectively). When music listening was discontinued, these scores rebounded. While the posttest BAI-C score was significantly lower in the experimental group (p < 0.0001), the pre-post difference between the two groups was not significant (p = 0.0619). On cessation of music listening, the BAI-C score also rebounded. CONCLUSIONS For cancer patients undergoing initial RT, music listening intervention significantly reduced anxiety symptoms measured using the BSRS-5, DT, and BAI-C scores after two weeks. Our results demonstrate the effectiveness of music listening intervention in reducing anxiety symptoms, thereby potentially improving the quality of life of cancer patients undergoing RT.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Music therapy has been proven as a safe and well-established intervention in healthcare to relieve symptoms and improve quality of life. While music therapy is already established in several settings to supplement medical care, there is a lack of integration in the field of medical education. METHODS We report on the implementation and evaluation of a teaching concept for a five-day-intensive-course on music therapy. The course was offered as an elective course for medical students at the University Duisburg-Essen. At the end of the course, students filled out a free text questionnaire to assess the students' perception of the course, and additionally answered standardized questions by the structured EVALuna online evaluation tool of the University of Duisburg-Essen. RESULTS All students (N = 35) who participated in the music therapy course between September 2019 and March 2023 completed the questionnaires and N = 21 students filled out the EVALuna. Most students (89%) chose the course because of their interest in alternative and supportive therapy options to improve patients' well-being. About 46% had previous musical experience and passion and fun with music and 37% of the students were interested in the interdisciplinary academic subject that combined music and medicine. EVALuna online evaluation reflected high satisfaction with the course. CONCLUSION Due to the well-proven effectiveness and evidence of music therapy as well as the positive perception of medical students, music therapy should be further established in medical care and medical education.

Abstract
PURPOSE This systematic review, meta-analysis and meta-regression aimed to (1) evaluate the effects of resilience interventions on cancer patients' resilience and posttraumatic growth and (2) identify essential contents and features of resilience interventions. METHODS A systematic review, meta-analysis, and meta-regression analyses were conducted. Published and unpublished randomised controlled trials evaluating the effects of resilience interventions among cancer patients were retrieved from nine databases, trial registries, and grey literature. The mean and standard deviation scores were used to compute the effect sizes. RESULTS 23 randomised controlled trials comprising 3287 cancer patients were included. The random effects model found that resilience interventions had beneficial impacts on patients' resilience, posttraumatic growth, quality of life, anxiety, and depressive symptoms with moderate to large effects. The subgroup analyses concluded that theoretically guided interventions that adopted synchronous communication delivered physically had greater effect sizes. Interventions comprising skills that promote patients' cognitive flexibility, self-efficacy, self-esteem, self-regulation, and coping had greater effect in comparison with interventions lacking these components. The meta-regression analyses revealed that sample size has a significant effect on posttraumatic growth scores. More well-designed trials are needed to confirm the effects of resilience interventions. CONCLUSIONS There is merit in utilizing resilience interventions to improve cancer patients' resilience and psychological well-being. Resilience interventions should be incorporated into the routine care for cancer patients and survivors.

Abstract
PURPOSE To explore the essential elements of patient education methods for promoting resilience among adult cancer patients. METHODS The PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL and PsycInfo databases were searched fromJanuary 2010 to April 2021. The outcome of interest was resilience. The integrative review applied the PRISMA statement guidelines. RESULTS Nine studies were identified, which formed three main patient education strategies that fell under categories: 1. Provision of illness-related information 2. Learning self-management skills 3. Provision of emotional support and the adjustment process. The key elements include promotion of positive factors, easing patients' mental burden, highlighting the importance of illness-related information, developing self-management skills, and emotional support. Interventions prepared patients for the future, enhanced their understanding of illness and recovery process, and comfort in physical and mental aspects of life, and improved their resilience. CONCLUSIONS Resilience among cancer patients is a process that helps them adjust to live with cancer. The provision of psychosocial support and illness-related information, as well as learning self-management skills, are essential elements of patient education interventions that aim to improve resilience among adult cancer patients.

Abstract
Coping with cancer requires both physical and emotional fortitude, and various intervention programs attempt to address these needs. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, many interventions have transitioned from live to online settings. Balance-Space is a music therapy intervention, which includes listening to original composed music, followed by an open discussion. Participants with a cancer diagnosis were randomized to either an online group music listening intervention or an online group meditation intervention. Both activities were followed by a group discussion led by two music therapists. A mixed methods study was employed and included both quantitative measurements of distress, anxiety, and pain and a qualitative analysis of the group discussion in the music intervention group. We found a significant reduction in participants' perceived pain levels following the music intervention when compared to the meditation intervention. This result was supported by qualitative content analysis, which revealed how music evoked physical reactions and affected the participants' experience of pain. There were no significant differences in participants' perceived distress levels and perceived anxiety levels between the two groups. These preliminary results are encouraging and support the need for further exploration of online music therapy interventions as a non-pharmacological treatment for cancer patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Music therapy (MT) has been shown to improve outcomes for patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) and patients with hematologic and/or oncologic conditions excluding SCD (HemOnc) in prior randomized trials. While few studies have described the clinical delivery (ie, volume, clinical settings, patient characteristics, referrals, and session characteristics) of MT and examined its real-world effectiveness, no studies have compared responses between hematology/oncology populations. The purpose of this study was to examine the clinical delivery and effectiveness of MT at a freestanding academic cancer center and compare the effectiveness of MT on pain, anxiety, and fatigue between adult patients in the HemOnc and SCD groups. METHODS A retrospective review was conducted of all MT sessions provided at a freestanding academic cancer center between January 2017 and July 2020. The unadjusted single-session effects of MT on pain, anxiety, and fatigue were assessed among patients reporting symptoms ≥1 out of 10 on a 0 to 10 scale. Adjustments were made for multiple sessions on the same patient using a mixed model to compare pre-session and change scores between the HemOnc and SCD groups. Patients' comments were analyzed using conventional qualitative content analysis. RESULTS Music therapists provided 4002 sessions to 1152 patients including 1012 in the HemOnc group and 140 in the SCD group. In the combined sample, statistically significant reductions in pain (1.48 units), anxiety (2.58 units), and fatigue (0.84 units) were observed, with changes in pain and anxiety exceeding clinically significant thresholds. After adjustment, the SCD group reported significantly greater pre-session pain (7.22 vs 5.81) and anxiety (6.11 vs 5.17) as well as greater anxiety reduction (2.89 vs 2.23) than the HemOnc group. Patients' comments contained themes including enjoyment, gratitude, and improvements in mood, pain, and anxiety. CONCLUSIONS This study supports the delivery and clinical effectiveness of MT for addressing the needs of patients throughout their course of treatment at an academic cancer center and justifies the inclusion of individuals with SCD within integrative oncology services.

Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to provide a group music therapy intervention for elementary and middle school students with mood disorders through music therapy. To explore the improvement of group music therapy on the dysphoria and state of adolescent patients with mood disorders and to explore the relationship with self-identity. A music activity-based mental health education curriculum was designed based on the results of the current survey, while two homogenous classes were selected as the experimental and control classes; subsequently, the experimental teaching of the music activity-based mental health education curriculum was conducted in the experimental class, and the regular school mental health education curriculum was conducted in the control class, and the pre- and postexperimental scale tests were used to analyze that the curriculum of this study had a positive effect of this study's curriculum on elementary school students' positive emotions analyzed through pre- and postexperimental scale tests. The music activity-based mental health education program had a significant positive effect on the overall level of positive emotions of elementary school students, especially in the positive emotion index, happiness index, mental toughness, goal focus, and interpersonal assistance factor. The positive psychology-oriented music activity-based mental health education curriculum is well suited for elementary and middle school students, especially for upper elementary and middle school students. The music activity-based mental health education curriculum realizes the value of applying positive psychology to mental health education efforts at the elementary school level and flexibly uses a variety of related theories to promote positive emotional experiences for elementary and middle school students.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Music may be a safe and effective coping strategy for psychological management. The objectives of this review were to identify the effects of music interventions on anxiety, depression, and quality of life (QoL) among cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. METHODS Fourteen databases were searched from the inception date to December 2020 to identify eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Gray literature was also examined. The protocol of this systematic review was registered with PROSPERO (registration number: CRD42021223845). Two reviewers independently assessed eligibility, extracted data, and evaluated methodological quality. Meta-analysis was done. Subgroup analysis was conducted for intervention types, the person selecting music, music delivery method, timing, and session duration. RESULTS Nine RCTs were identified, among which six were eligible for the meta-analysis. All studies were at a high risk of bias, and the overall quality of evidence was low to very low. The pooled results reveal that music intervention could reduce anxiety (SMD: - 0.29, 95% CI - 0.50 to - 0.08) and improve QoL (SMD: 0.42, 95% CI 0.02 to 0.82). However, it fails to affect depression (p = 0.79). The findings demonstrate no significant difference between patient-selected music and researcher-selected music, recorded music, and live music, while a length of 15-20 min/session and offering immediately before chemotherapy are more effective on anxiety than that of 30-45 min and delivering during chemotherapy. CONCLUSIONS Music intervention may be a beneficial tool for anxiety reduction and QoL among cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. More high-quality RCTs are needed to ascertain the true impact of those outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This is an update of the review published on the Cochrane Library in 2016, Issue 8. Having cancer may result in extensive emotional, physical and social suffering. Music interventions have been used to alleviate symptoms and treatment side effects in people with cancer. This review includes music interventions defined as music therapy offered by trained music therapists, as well as music medicine, which was defined as listening to pre-recorded music offered by medical staff. OBJECTIVES To assess and compare the effects of music therapy and music medicine interventions for psychological and physical outcomes in people with cancer. SEARCH METHODS We searched the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL; 2020, Issue 3) in the Cochrane Library, MEDLINE via Ovid, Embase via Ovid, CINAHL, PsycINFO, LILACS, Science Citation Index, CancerLit, CAIRSS, Proquest Digital Dissertations, ClinicalTrials.gov, Current Controlled Trials, the RILM Abstracts of Music Literature, http://www.wfmt.info/Musictherapyworld/ and the National Research Register. We searched all databases, except for the last two, from their inception to April 2020; the other two are no longer functional, so we searched them until their termination date. We handsearched music therapy journals, reviewed reference lists and contacted experts. There was no language restriction. SELECTION CRITERIA We included all randomized and quasi-randomized controlled trials of music interventions for improving psychological and physical outcomes in adults and pediatric patients with cancer. We excluded patients undergoing biopsy and aspiration for diagnostic purposes. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS Two review authors independently extracted the data and assessed the risk of bias. Where possible, we presented results in meta-analyses using mean differences and standardized mean differences. We used post-test scores. In cases of significant baseline difference, we used change scores. We conducted separate meta-analyses for studies with adult participants and those with pediatric participants. Primary outcomes of interest included psychological outcomes and physical symptoms and secondary outcomes included physiological responses, physical functioning, anesthetic and analgesic intake, length of hospitalization, social and spiritual support, communication, and quality of life (QoL) . We used GRADE to assess the certainty of the evidence. MAIN RESULTS We identified 29 new trials for inclusion in this update. In total, the evidence of this review rests on 81 trials with a total of 5576 participants. Of the 81 trials, 74 trials included adult (N = 5306) and seven trials included pediatric (N = 270) oncology patients. We categorized 38 trials as music therapy trials and 43 as music medicine trials. The interventions were compared to standard care. Psychological outcomes The results suggest that music interventions may have a large anxiety-reducing effect in adults with cancer, with a reported average anxiety reduction of 7.73 units (17 studies, 1381 participants; 95% confidence interval (CI) -10.02 to -5.44; very low-certainty evidence) on the Spielberger State Anxiety Inventory scale (range 20 to 80; lower values reflect lower anxiety). Results also suggested a moderately strong, positive impact of music interventions on depression in adults (12 studies, 1021 participants; standardized mean difference (SMD): -0.41, 95% CI -0.67 to -0.15; very low-certainty evidence). We found no support for an effect of music interventions on mood (SMD 0.47, 95% CI -0.02 to 0.97; 5 studies, 236 participants; very low-certainty evidence). Music interventions may increase hope in adults with cancer, with a reported average increase of 3.19 units (95% CI 0.12 to 6.25) on the Herth Hope Index (range 12 to 48; higher scores reflect greater hope), but this finding was based on only two studies (N = 53 participants; very low-certainty evidence). Physical outcomes We found a moderate pain-reducing effect of music interventions (SMD -0.67, 95% CI -1.07 to -0.26; 12 studies, 632 adult participants; very low-certainty evidence). In addition, music interventions had a small treatment effect on fatigue (SMD -0.28, 95% CI -0.46 to -0.10; 10 studies, 498 adult participants; low-certainty evidence). The results suggest a large effect of music interventions on adult participants' QoL, but the results were highly inconsistent across studies, and the pooled effect size was accompanied by a large confidence interval (SMD 0.88, 95% CI -0.31 to 2.08; 7 studies, 573 participants; evidence is very uncertain). Removal of studies that used improper randomization methods resulted in a moderate effect size that was less heterogeneous (SMD 0.47, 95% CI 0.06 to 0.88, P = 0.02, I2 = 56%). A small number of trials included pediatric oncology participants. The findings suggest that music interventions may reduce anxiety but this finding was based on only two studies (SMD -0.94, 95% CI -1.9 to 0.03; very low-certainty evidence). Due to the small number of studies, we could not draw conclusions regarding the effects of music interventions on mood, depression, QoL, fatigue or pain in pediatric participants with cancer. The majority of studies included in this review update presented a high risk of bias, and therefore the overall certainty of the evidence is low. For several outcomes (i.e. anxiety, depression, pain, fatigue, and QoL) the beneficial treatment effects were consistent across studies for music therapy interventions delivered by music therapists. In contrast, music medicine interventions resulted in inconsistent treatment effects across studies for these outcomes. AUTHORS' CONCLUSIONS This systematic review indicates that music interventions compared to standard care may have beneficial effects on anxiety, depression, hope, pain, and fatigue in adults with cancer. The results of two trials suggest that music interventions may have a beneficial effect on anxiety in children with cancer. Too few trials with pediatric participants were included to draw conclusions about the treatment benefits of music for other outcomes. For several outcomes, music therapy interventions delivered by a trained music therapist led to consistent results across studies and this was not the case for music medicine interventions. Moreover, evidence of effect was found for music therapy interventions for QoL and fatigue but not for music medicine interventions. Most trials were at high risk of bias and low or very low certainty of evidence; therefore, these results need to be interpreted with caution.

Abstract
During COVID-19 pandemic, Italian pediatric oncology departments were obliged to adopt restrictive measures to minimize the risk of in-hospital infections in frail patients and staff members. Access to the wards was significantly reduced and music therapy (MT) activities were suspended. The aim of this study was to compare the level of anxiety and sedation in pediatric patients undergoing invasive procedure before (T1), during(T2) and after(T3) the pandemic, with and without the presence of MT. From January to September 2020, all children aged 2–15 with oncological and hematological diseases undergoing to invasive procedure were enrolled. During T1 and T3 children received preoperative preparation with MT by a certified music-therapist. In T2 they received music or video by clinical staff. Preoperative anxiety scores were measured with the m- YPAS scale. Interviews with mothers were performed. The average consumption of drugs used was analyzed. Significant differences in preoperative anxiety levels between scores in T1, T2 (p.value = 0,0000014) and in T2, T3 (p.value = 0,0000031) were observed. No difference between T1-T3 (p.value = 0,96). Higher dosage of midazolam in T2 (1,14 mg 0,189) compared to T1 (0, 71 mg 0,399) and T2 (1,14 mg 0,189) were observed. Mothers also recorded higher scores on anxiety and stress without music therapy.

Abstract
Resilience interventions have been gaining importance among researchers due to their potential to provide well-being and reduce the prevalence of mental disorders that are becoming an increasing concern, especially in Western countries, because of the costs associated. The purpose of this systematic review is to identify the intervention studies carried out in the last decade in adult population samples, evaluate their methodological quality and highlight the trends of these types of interventions. This review was performed using systematic literature searches in the following electronic databases: B-on, PubMed, PsycNet and Science Direct. The application of eligibility criteria resulted in the inclusion of 38 articles, of which 33 were randomized controlled trials and the other five were nonrandomized controlled studies. Although most studies showed statistical significance for their results, these were constrained by the great heterogeneity of the studies, the lack of power of the samples and their fair methodological quality. Therefore, it is important to consolidate the theoretical basis and standardize certain methodologies so that the effects of the interventions can be compared through a meta-analysis.
