Abstract
The stabilization of protein therapeutics against aggregation is crucial for maintaining their efficacy and safety. This study investigated the synergistic effects of cyclodextrins (CDs) and electrolytes at high concentrations on the stabilization of immunoglobulin G (IgG), insulin, and adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors. The effects of 2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) combined with various electrolytes were evaluated using human plasma-derived IgG as a model protein. The HP-β-CD and L(+)-arginine hydrochloride combination synergistically increased the onset temperature of protein aggregation and inhibited the formation of soluble and insoluble aggregates during long-term storage. Notably, this synergistic effect was not observed when sucrose was used instead of HP-β-CD. Similar synergistic effects were observed with insulin and AAV vectors. The findings suggest that the stabilization mechanism could potentially involve enhanced interactions between HP-β-CD and IgG, preventing protein-protein interactions. However, the combination did not synergistically improve the solubility of free aromatic amino acids, including tyrosine and tryptophan. This study highlights the potential of using the combination of CDs and electrolytes as a promising formulation strategy for stabilizing complex protein therapeutics. Further studies are needed to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and generalize the approach to other proteins with varying physicochemical properties.

Abstract
The solubilization of poorly water-soluble natural bioactive compounds remains a significant challenge. This study aims to design a ternary inclusion system to enhance the solubility of the poorly water-soluble compound Neohesperidin (NH). Soluble ternary cyclodextrin complexations (t-CDs) containing NH, 2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD), and meglumine (MEG) were prepared and optimized. The optimized t-CDs were further characterized using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Powder X-ray Diffraction (PXRD), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), and molecular docking (MD) techniques. The results suggested that NH formed was associated with MEG through hydrogen bonds with MEG, and was subsequently incorporated into the hydrophobic cavity of HP-β-CD, which may be a key factor in improving its solubility. The solubility of NH in water at 37 °C increased significantly from 0.16 mg/mL to 5.81 mg/mL in the optimized t-CDs (NH/MEG/HP-β-CD).

Abstract
Atropine sulfate (ATS) eye drops at low concentrations constitute a limited selection for myopia treatment, with challenges such as low ophthalmic bioavailability and inadequate stability. This study proposes a novel strategy by synthesizing ophthalmic sodium polystyrene sulfonate resin (SPSR) characterized by a spherical shape and uniform size for cationic exchange with ATS. The formulation of ATS@SPSR suspension eye drops incorporates xanthan gum and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) as suspending agents. In vitro studies demonstrated that ATS@SPSR suspension eye drops exhibited sustained release characteristics, and tropic acid, its degradation product, remained undetected for 30 days at 40 °C. The ATS levels in the tear fluids and aqueous humor of New Zealand rabbits indicated a significant increase in mean residence time (MRT) and area under the drug concentration-time curve (AUC0-12h) for ATS@SPSR suspension eye drops compared to conventional ATS eye drops. Moreover, safety assessment confirmed the non-irritating nature of ATS@SPSR suspension eye drops in rabbit eyes. In conclusion, the cation-responsive sustained-release ATS@SPSR suspension eye drops enhanced the bioavailability and stability of ATS, offering a promising avenue for myopia treatment.

Abstract
Cyclodextrins (CDs) are cyclic oligosaccharides that contain a relatively hydrophobic central cavity and a hydrophilic outer surface. They are widely used to form non-covalent inclusion complexes with many substances. Although such inclusion complexes typically exhibit higher aqueous solubility and chemical stability than pure drugs, it has been shown that CDs can promote the degradation of some drugs. This property of stabilizing certain drugs while destabilizing others can be explained by the type of CD used and the structure of the inclusion complex formed. In addition, the ability to form complexes of CDs can be improved through the addition of suitable auxiliary substances, forming multicomponent complexes. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the effect that binary and multicomponent complexes have on the chemical and physical stability of complexed drugs. The objective of this review is to summarize the studies on the stabilizing and destabilizing effects of complexes with CDs on drugs that exhibit stability problems.

Abstract
L-Ascorbic acid (LAA) is a key vitamin, implicated in a variety of physiological processes in humans. Due to its free radical scavenging activity, it is extensively employed as an excipient in pharmaceutical products and food supplements. However, its application is greatly impeded by poor thermal and aqueous stability. Herein, to improve the stability and inhibit oxidative degradation, we prepared LAA-cyclodextrin inclusion complex-incorporated nanofibers (NFs). The continuous variation method (Job plot) demonstrated that LAA forms inclusions with hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) at a 2:1 molar stoichiometric ratio. The NFs were prepared via the single step electrospinning technique, without using any polymer matrix. The solid-state characterizations of LAA/HP-β-CD-NF via powder x-ray diffractometry (PXRD), Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) analysis, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), and nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR and 2D-NOESY) spectroscopy, reveal the effective encapsulation of the LAA (guest molecule) inside the HP-β-CD (host) cavity. The SEM micrograph reveals an average fiber diameter of ~339 nm. The outcomes of the thermal investigations demonstrated that encapsulation of LAA within HP-β-CD cavities provides improved thermal stability of LAA (by increasing the thermal degradation temperature). The radical scavenging assay demonstrated the enhanced antioxidant potential of LAA/HP-β-CD-NF, as compared to native LAA. Overall, the study shows that cyclodextrin inclusion complex-incorporated NFs, are an effective approach for improving the limitations associated with LAA, and provide promising avenues in its therapeutic and food applications.

Abstract
In this work, a cyclic voltammetry analysis for the detection of Ascorbic Acid (AA) based on a carbon-clay paste electrode modified with titanium dioxide (CPEA/TiO2) is presented. The electrochemical sensor was prepared using clay and carbon graphite, mixed with TiO2 to investigate the electrode behavior towards the detection of AA. Comprehensive characterization approaches including X-ray diffraction (XRD), Selected area electron diffraction (SAED), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy (FTIR) were carried out on different samples. The results indicated that, the electrode has been effectively modified, while the electrochemical parameters of AA on CPEA/TiO2/UV such as the charge transfer coefficient (α a ), number of electrons (n) transferred and standard potential were calculated. CPEA/TiO2/UV exhibit better photoactivity and also higher electronic conductivity under light radiation (100 W). The linear range for AA was determined between 0.150μM and 0.850 μM with the straight-line equation equivalent to I p a ( μ A ) = 2.244 [ A A ] + 1.234 (n = 8, R2 = 0.993). The limit of detection was 0.732 μM (3σ) and limit of quantification was 2.440 μM. For the analytical applications, pharmaceutical tablets such as Chloroquine phosphate, Azithromycin and Hydroxychloroquine sulfate were performed. In addition, interference study in the analytical application was performed, and it was found that the electroanalytical method used can be well adopted for simultaneous electrochemical detection of AA and Azithromycin.

Abstract
Vitamins are widely found in nature, for example, in plants and fruits. Ascorbic acid and nicotinamide are examples of these compounds that have potent antioxidant properties, besides stimulating collagen production and depigmenting properties that protect the skin from premature aging. To overcome the skin barrier and reduce the instability of antioxidant compounds, alternative systems have been developed to facilitate the delivery of antioxidants, making them efficiently available to the tissue for an extended time without causing damage or toxicity. The objective of this study was to obtain chitosan biodegradable microparticles containing ascorbic acid and nicotinamide for topical delivery. The microparticles were obtained by spray drying and characterized chemically by means of scanning electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and differential exploratory calorimetry. The drugs were successfully encapsulated and the microparticles showed positive zeta potential. In vitro release assays showed a sustained release profile. The evaluation of ex vivo skin permeation and retention demonstrated low permeation and adequate retention of the compounds in the epidermis/dermis, suggesting the efficient delivery from the obtained microparticles. Antibacterial assays have shown that microparticles can inhibit the growth of microorganisms in a time- and dose-dependent manner, corroborating their use in cosmetic products for application on the skin.

Abstract
Early detection and monitoring of any abnormality of Hemoglobin (Hb) concentration in whole blood samples are important as this may be related to anemia, leukemia, dengue, etc. To facilitate quantitative detection and to monitor the hemoglobin level in the blood, we attempt to develop a low-cost, portable point of care (POC) device based on the spectrophotometric principle. Optical sensitivities of carbon quantum dots (CDs) are found to be highly responsive, while there is a selective reaction between Hb and reduced form of Methylene Blue (MBred). The interaction of Hb, MBred, and CDs is delineated using UV-Visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy. CDs have a characteristic UV-Vis peak at ∼ 347 nm, and it shows a gradual increase in intensity with a slight red shift (∼355 nm) on the progressive increase in Hb concentration. Simultaneously, the colorless MBred is oxidized to its blue oxidized form MBox and its characteristic peak starts reappearing at ∼ 663 nm. These responses are exploited to quantify Hb concentration with a limit of detection (LOD) as low as ∼ 2 g dL-1 in a developed POC device, and the results are validated with the clinical data obtained from a local hospital with reasonably good agreement. This photometric detection approach can be adopted for other quantitative biosensors.

Abstract
Cyclodextrins (CDs) are naturally available water-soluble cyclic oligosaccharides widely used as carriers in the pharmaceutical industry for their ability to modulate several properties of drugs through the formation of drug-CD complexes. The addition of an auxiliary substance when forming multicomponent complexes is an adequate strategy to enhance complexation efficiency and to facilitate the therapeutic applicability of different drugs. This review discusses multicomponent complexation using amino acids; organic acids and bases; and water-soluble polymers as auxiliary excipients. Special attention is given to improved properties by including information on the solubility, dissolution, permeation, stability and bioavailability of several relevant drugs. Abstract
Abstract
Cyclic voltammetry, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance and quantum chemistry calculations were applied to explore the hydrogen bond interactions between ascorbic acid (AA) and glycine. The experimental results demonstrate the existence of hydrogen bonds in AA-glycine system, which has a significant effect on the oxidation peak potentials and currents of AA and the chemical shifts of glycine. The formation of hydrogen bonds between AA and glycine were further confirmed by the density functional theory, quantum theory of atoms in molecules and natural bond orbital analyses.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to prepare a supporting carrier, namely highly branched corn starch (HBCS), and to investigate its encapsulation property with ascorbic acid (AA). High amylose corn starch was converted into HBCS via dual enzymatic modification by successively using α-amylase and glycogen branching enzyme. The results showed that the ratio of α-1, 6 linkage of HBCS increased by 1.93%, and a short-to-medium chain length distribution with a compact branched conformation was formed, which suggested HBCS could be a potential highly branched carrier. The HBCS-AA inclusion complex was formed as confirmed by differential scanning calorimetry. The release of AA conformed to the pseudo-Fickian diffusion mechanism and followed the first-order kinetics. Meanwhile, the photostability and thermostability of the embedded AA were moderately enhanced. These findings suggest that HBCS provides new insights into the preparation of wall materials and can be potentially used to deliver AA into food systems.

Abstract
Ascorbic acid (AA) is a general antioxidant used in aqueous pharmaceutical formulations. However, in aqueous solutions, AA is unstable and easily oxidized when exposed to air, light and/or heat. Cyclodextrins are well known for their ability to form inclusion complexes with various compounds to improve their solubility and stability. Previous studies demonstrate that cyclodextrins preserve the antioxidant capacity of AA but data for γ-cyclodextrin (γCD) have not been reported. Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) is a hydrophilic polymer widely used as a drug matrix in various pharmaceutical fields, but its application for drug stabilization is limited. This study aimed to investigate the protective ability of γCD on AA through the formation of ternary complexes with PVA. Binary (i.e., AA/γCD, AA/PVA and γCD/PVA) and ternary (i.e., AA/γCD/PVA) complexes were first confirmed. It was reported that those complexes were formed through interactions between the heterocyclic ring of AA, hydroxyl group of PVA and hydrophobic cavity of γCD. The hydrodynamic diameter of complexes was then studied. It was found that the diameter of γCD/PVA complexes increased with respect to the concentration of γCD. Higher γCD concentrations also resulted in increasing hydrodynamic diameters of the ternary complex. The presence of AA in ternary complexes interfered with the aggregation tendency of γCD/PVA binary complexes. Furthermore, the antioxidant capacity of AA in binary and ternary complexes was investigated. It was found that the presence of γCD preserved the antioxidant activity of AA, whereas PVA showed a contrasting effect. The influence of γCD and PVA concentration on antioxidant capacity was then studied through central composite design (CCD). Even though the concentration of γCD significantly affected the inhibition efficiency of the ternary complex, the insignificant influence of PVA could not be ignored. A promising protective ternary complex should consist of an optimized concentration of PVA and a high concentration of γCD.

Abstract
AIM Binary and ternary complexes with hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HPβCD), using glutamic acid (GA), proline or lysine as the third component, were developed to increase the solubility and the dissolution rate of norfloxacin (NOR). METHODS/RESULTS Complexation was evaluated by phase solubility studies, obtaining the highest NOR solubility with GA and HPβCD. Thermal analysis suggested that different kinds of interactions occur among NOR, HPβCD and each amino acid, and when the systems were prepared by kneading or by means of freeze-drying technique. Dissolution studies, performed on simulated gastric fluid and subsequent simulated intestinal fluid, showed the highest rate of NOR from NOR-HPβCD-GA. CONCLUSION NOR:HPβCD:GA was the best approach for improving the bioavailability of NOR.

Abstract
Ascorbic acid (AC) used as antioxidant in embryo culture is very sensitive and degrades unavoidably in aqueous solution. Methyl-β-cyclodextrin (CD) improved the stability of AC in solution to elevated temperature, light, humidity and oxidation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the complex AC-CD during in vitro maturation (IVM) or in vitro culture (IVC) on oocyte developmental competence and subsequent embryo development and quality. AC-CD (100 µM) was added to IVM media, and maturation level and embryo development were examined. Matured oocytes, their cumulus cells and produced blastocysts were snap-frozen for gene expression analysis by RT-qPCR. Besides, in vitro-produced zygotes were cultured with 100 µM of AC-CD and blastocysts were as well snap-frozen for gene expression analysis. A group without AC-CD (control- ) and other with CD (control+ ) were included. No differences were found on maturation, cleavage or blastocyst rates. However, in matured oocytes, AC-CD downregulated BAX, GPX1 and BMP15. In cumulus cells, AC-CD downregulated BAX/BCL2 and GSTA4 while upregulated BCL2 and CYP51A1. The expression of SL2A1, FADS1, PNPLA and MTORC1 was downregulated in blastocysts derived from oocytes matured with AC-CD, while in blastocysts derived from zygote cultured with AC-CD, CYP51A1 and IGF2R were downregulated and PNPLA2 was upregulated. In conclusion, AC-CD in both IVM and IVC media may reduce accumulated fat by increasing lipolysis and suppressing lipogenesis in blastocysts derived from both oocytes and zygotes cultured with AC-CD, suggesting that CD improves the quality of embryos and bioavailability of AC during IVM and IVC.

Abstract
Abstract
The interactions of ascorbic acid (AA) with urea were investigated by using the cyclic voltammetry, density functional theory, atoms in molecules and natural bond orbital analyses. The experimental and theoretical results show that the hydrogen bonds are formed between AA and urea, wherein the mainly interaction sites are the hydrogen atoms on enediol of AA and the oxygen atom on carbonyl of urea. The electrochemical behavior of AA was significantly affected by above interactions.

Abstract
It is extremely important for pharmaceutical formulators to have analytical methodology that provides efficient detection and quantification of HPβCD aggregates. Five different methods were then evaluated for their potential to detect these aggregates and to determine critical aggregation concentration (cac): osmometry, viscometry, tensiometry, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and permeability studies. Overall, tensiometry was an inadequate method with which to study HPβCD aggregation, since the addition of HPβCD to water resulted in only minor changes in surface tension. Osmolality and viscosity studies have shown that for HPβCD, solute⁻solvent interactions are the main contributors for the observed deviation from ideality. These deviations might be related to the presence of aggregates. The DLS method proved to be an effective method with which to detect HPβCD aggregates and estimate their hydrodynamic diameter, although it presented some limitations concerning their quantification. In terms of the assessed methods, permeation studies were shown to be the best to study HPβCD aggregation phenomena, since they were the only method where the detection of aggregates and the determination of apparent cac values was possible. Also, it was the least invasive for the HPβCD samples and the method that provided more conclusive data. Results suggested that HPβCD, as expected, has less tendency to form aggregates than βCD.

Abstract
This study evaluated the l-ascorbic acid (AA) encapsulation in microparticles of xyloglucan (XAA) extracted from Hymenaea courbaril seeds by spray drying (SD) and its application in tilapia fish burgers. The encapsulation efficiency was 96.34±1.6% and the retention of the antioxidant activity was of 89.48±0.88% after 60days at 25°C. SEM images showed microspheres with diameters ranging from 4.4 to 34.0μm. FTIR spectrum confirmed the presence of AA in xyloglucan microparticles, which was corroborated by DSC and TGA. The release of ascorbic acid was found to be pH-dependent. The application of XAA in tilapia fish burger did not change the pH after heating and the ascorbic acid retention was greater compared to its free form. The results indicate that xyloglucan can be used to encapsulate AA by SD and suggest that XAA was able to reduce undesirable organoleptic changes in fish burgers.

Abstract
This study was conducted to provide a mechanistic account for understanding the synthesis, characterization and solubility phenomena of vitamin complexes with cyclodextrins (CD) for enhanced solubility and stability employing experimental and in silico molecular modeling strategies. New geometric, molecular and energetic analyses were pursued to explicate experimentally derived cholecalciferol complexes. Various CD molecules (α-, β-, γ-, and hydroxypropyl β-) were complexed with three vitamins: cholecalciferol, ascorbic acid and α-tocopherol. The Inclusion Efficiency (IE%) was computed for each CD-vitamin complex. The highest IE% achieved for a cholecalciferol complex was for 'βCDD3-8', after utilizing a unique CD:cholecalciferol molar synthesis ratio of 2.5:1, never before reported as successful. 2HPβCD-cholecalciferol, γCD-cholecalciferol and α-tocopherol inclusion complexes (IC's) reached maximal IE% with a CD:vitamin molar ratio of 5:1. The results demonstrate that IE%, thermal stability, concentration, carrier solubility, molecular mechanics and intended release profile are key factors to consider when synthesizing vitamin-CD complexes. Phase-solubility data provided insights into the design of formulations with IC's that may provide analogous oral vitamin release profiles even when hydrophobic and hydrophilic vitamins are co-incorporated. Static lattice atomistic simulations were able to validate experimentally derived cholecalciferol IE phenomena and are invaluable parameters when approaching formulation strategies using CD's for improved solubility and efficacy of vitamins.

Abstract
The aggregation of three different cyclodextrins (CDs): 2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD), 2-hydroxypropyl-γ-cyclodextrin (HP-γ-CD) and sulfobutylether-β-cyclodextrin (SBE-β-CD) was studied. The critical aggregation concentration (cac) of these three CDs is quite similar and is situated at ca. 2% (m/v). There was only a small difference in the cac values determined by DLS and 1H NMR. DLS measurements revealed that CDs in solution have three size populations wherein one of them is that of a single CD molecule. The size of aggregates determined by TEM appears to be similar to the size of the aggregates in the second size distribution determined by DLS. Isodesmic and K2-K self-assembly models were used for studying the aggregation process of HP-β-CD, HP-γ-CD and SBE-β-CD. The results showed that the aggregation process of these CDs is a cooperative one, where the first step of aggregation is less favorable than the next steps. The determined thermodynamic parameters showed that the aggregation process of all three CDs is spontaneous and exothermic and it is driven by an increase of the entropy of the environment.

Abstract
Cyclodextrins (CDs) and meglumine (MEG) are pharmaceutical excipients widely used to improve solubility of poorly water-soluble drugs. The purpose of this work was to study the effect of CDs or MEG on the internal microstructure of soya oil-based O/W microemulsions (MEs) and on the modulation of the solubility and release rate of Class II model hydrophobic drugs, sulfamerazine and indomethacin. The pseudoternary phase diagrams revealed that higher proportions of oil phase, as well as the presence of β-cyclodextrin (ßCD), methyl-ßCD, and MEG, favored the incorporation of the drugs. The conductivity studies, particle size, and zeta potential analysis showed that the O/W ME structure remained unaffected and that the ME presented reduced droplet sizes after the incorporation of the ligands. The drug-component interactions were assessed by proton nuclear magnetic resonance studies. The highest incorporations of sulfamerazine (35.6 mg/mL) and indomethacin (73.1 mg/mL) were obtained with the ME with W = 5%, MEG and W = 1.8% ßCD in a phosphate buffer solution of pH 8, respectively. In addition, the ligands in ME significantly enhanced the released amount of the drugs, probably due to a solubilizing effect that facilitates the drug to penetrate the unstirred water layer adjacent to membranes.

Abstract
This study investigated the effect on solubility and release of ternary complexes of sulfamerazine (SMR) with β-(βCD), methyl-(MβCD) and hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HPβCD) using meglumine (MEG) as the ternary component. The combination of MEG with MβCD resulted the best approach, with an increased effect (29-fold) of the aqueous solubility of SMR. The mode of inclusion was supported by 2D NMR, which indicated that real ternary complexes were formed between SMR, MEG and MβCD or HPβCD. Solid state analysis was performed using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT IR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), which demonstrated that different interactions occurred among SMR, MEG and MβCD or HPβCD in the ternary lyophilized systems. The ternary complexes with βCD and MβCD produced an additional retention effect on the release of SMR compared to the corresponding binary complexes, implying that they were clearly superior in terms of solubility and release modulation.

Abstract
L-ascorbic acid has been widely used in cosmetic and dermatological products because of its ability to scavenge free radicals and destroy oxidizing agents. However, it is chemically unstable and can easily be oxidized. The current cosmetic facial masks available in the market are pre-moistened, which means that the aqueous fluid content of the mask may oxidize some of the unstable active ingredients such as ascorbic acid. This work presents an anti-wrinkle nanofiber face mask containing ascorbic acid, retinoic acid, gold nanoparticles, and collagen. This novel face mask will only be wetted when applied to the skin, thus enhancing product stability. Once moistened, the content of the mask will gradually dissolve and release the active ingredients and ensure maximum skin penetration. The high surface area-to-volume ratio of the nanofiber mask will ensure maximum contact with the skin surface and help to enhance the skin permeation to restore its healthy appearance. Electrospun fiber mats may provide an attractive alternative to the commercial facial cotton masks.

Abstract
In this study, we investigate how the effect of L-arginine (ARG) and cyclodextrins upon omeprazole (OME) stability and solubility. The effect of the presence of ARG on the apparent stability constants (K(1:1)) of the inclusion complexes formed between OME and each cyclodextrin, beta-cyclodextrin (betaCD), and methyl-beta-cyclodextrin (MbetaCD) is studied by phase solubility diagrams and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The interaction of OME with those cyclodextrins, in the presence of ARG, is characterized using NMR spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulations. ARG significantly increases the drug solubility and complex stability, in comparison to inclusion complexes formed in its absence. The effect is more pronounced for the OME:betaCD complex. ARG also contributes to a larger stability of OME when free in aqueous solution. The combination of ARG with cyclodextrins can represent an important tool to develop stable drug formulations.

Abstract
Binary and ternary interaction products of ketoprofen (an anti-inflammatory drug very poorly water soluble) with phospholipids (phosphatidylcholine (EPC3) and phosphatidylglycerol (EPG)) and cyclodextrins (beta-cyclodextrin and its methylated derivative (MebetaCd)), were prepared to evaluate their ability in improving drug dissolution properties. The different binary and ternary drug-carrier(s) systems were obtained by microwave irradiation, in order to investigate the effectiveness of such a newly proposed preparation technology in bringing about effective solid-state interactions among the components. The effect of different experimental conditions such as microwave irradiation power (500 and 750 W) and treatment time (5, 10 and 15 min) on the physicochemical properties of the products has been also assessed. All solid systems were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis, supported by X-ray powder diffractometry, and examined for dissolution properties. The study pointed out the better performance of ternary systems than the binary ones and allowed selection of the best drug-phospholipid-Cd combination and of the most effective preparation conditions. In particular drug-EPC3-MebetaCd ternary systems obtained by using the greatest microwave irradiation energy and the longest treatment time exhibited complete drug amorphization and allowed achievement after 60 min of almost 80% dissolved drug, with an increase in dissolution efficiency of 10.7 and 1.4 times in comparison with drug alone and the corresponding drug-Cd binary system, respectively. The synergistic effect between cyclodextrin and phospholipid in enhancing the drug dissolution properties has been attributed to the combination of the surfactant properties of phospholipids and the wetting and solubilizing power of cyclodextrins and/or the possible formation of a "multicomponent" complex.
