Abstract
AbstractA microextraction procedure that is rapid and simple to extract and preconcentrate ketoprofen and naproxen is proposed. An environmentally friendly supramolecular solvent was applied as an extraction solvent and proved to be efficient in the extraction of ketoprofen and naproxen from environmental water. The design of experiment approach was used to screen, optimize significant parameters, and determine optimum experimental conditions. Under optimized experimental conditions, the vortex-assisted supramolecular solvent dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction provided a good linearity (0.57–700 µg L−1), low limits of detection (0.17–0.24 µg L−1) and extraction reproducibility below 9%. The high percentage relative recoveries (93.6–101.4%) indicated that the method is not affected by matrix. The practical applicability of the method was assessed by analysing ketoprofen and naproxen in river water and effluent wastewater samples. Both analytes were found in effluent wastewater.

Abstract
A low cost-effective and simple synthesis method was adopted to acquire three-dimensional flower-like structure Fe3O4/C that has large specific area, suitable pore structure and sufficient saturation magnetism. The obtained Fe3O4/C exhibits outstanding preconcentration ability and was applied to extracting non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs from complex environmental and biological samples. The parameters of magnetic solid-phase extraction were optimized by univariate and multivariate methods (Box-Behnken design). The high degree of linearity from 2.5 to 1000.0 ng mL-1 (R2 ≥ 0.9976), the limits of detection from 0.25 to 0.5 ng mL- 1 (S/N = 3), and the limits of quantitation from 1.0 to 2.0 ng mL- 1 (S/N = 10) were yielded by adopting this novel method after the optimization. Moreover, the recoveries of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs from 89.6 to 107.0% were acquired in spiked plasma, urine and lake samples. In addition, the adsorption of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs on Fe3O4/C was explored by adsorption isotherms and kinetic studies. Furthermore, the adsorption mechanism for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs by Fe3O4/C was proposed, which was hydrogen bonding and π-π interaction between non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and Fe3O4/C. Abstract
A vortex assisted spraying based fine droplet formation liquid phase microextraction (VA-SFDF-LPME) method was developed to determine chloroquine phosphate at trace levels in human serum, urine and saliva samples by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) with single quadrupole mass analyzer. In the first part, several liquid phase microextraction (LPME) and magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) methods were compared to each other in order to observe their extraction ability for the analyte. VA-SFDF-LPME method was selected as an efficient and easy extraction method due to its higher extraction efficiency. Optimization studies were carried out for the parameters such as extraction solvent type, sodium hydroxide volume/concentration, sample volume, spraying number and mixing type/period. Tukey's method based on post hoc test was applied to all experimental data for the selection of optimum values. Optimum extraction parameters were found to be 12 mL initial sample volume, two sprays of dichloromethane, 0.75 mL of 60 g/kg sodium hydroxide and 15 s vortex. Under the optimum conditions, limit of detection and quantification (LOD and LOQ) were calculated as 2.8 and 9.2 μg/kg, respectively. Detection power of the GC–MS system was increased by approximately 317 folds with the developed extraction/preconcentration method. The applicability and accuracy of the proposed method was evaluated by spiking experiments and percent recovery results for human urine, serum and saliva samples were found in the range of 90.9% and 114.0% with low standard deviation values (1.9–9.4).

Abstract
In the present study, a new generation of water-immiscible natural deep eutectic solvents (DESs) was synthesized using borneol as a hydrogen-bonding acceptor and decanoic acid, oleic acid, and thymol as a hydrogen-bonding donor in different molar ratios. These green hydrophobic solvents which are chemically stable in aqueous solutions were used as extraction solvents for isolation and pre-concentration of warfarin in biological samples. In this method, fine droplets of DESs were dispersed into the sample solution by using the air-assisted liquid-liquid micro-extraction method to accelerate the cloudy emulsion system formation and increase the mass transfer of the analyte to the DES-rich phase. The borneol based deep eutectic solvent is a worthy generation of the extraction solvents in the ALLME method due to low-cost and less toxicity. A Plackett-Burman design was utilized for screening the experimental parameters. The effective parameters were then optimized by Box-Behnken design (BBD). Optimized extraction conditions were pH of sample solution of 3.9, number of aspiration/dispersion cycles of 15, the volume of DES of 60 μL, and rate and time of centrifuge of 6000 rpm and 10 min, respectively. Under the optimized conditions, the developed NADES-ALLME method exhibited a wide linear range of 5-500 µg L - 1 for plasma and urine samples with satisfactory recoveries above 88.80%. Limit of detections (LODs) and Limit of quantifications (LOQs) of warfarin were in the ranges of 0.5-2.7 and 1.65-8.91, respectively. The enrichment factors were obtained in the range of 148-164 and precisions were lower than 5.87%. Finally, the proposed method was successfully employed for the analysis of warfarin in human urine and plasma samples.

Abstract
As a globally popular herbicide, glyphosate (GLY) and its metabolite aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) pose potential hazards to the ecological environment. In this study, a sensitive and reliable method for detecting GLY and AMPA was utilized to facilitate exposure risk assessment of the analytes in environmental systems such as water and soil. GLY and AMPA were extracted from the sample using a solid-phase extraction (SPE) procedure, derivatized by heptafluorobutyric anhydride and heptafluorobutanol, and detected by gas chromatography-flame photometric detection (GC-FPD). The linearities of GLY and AMPA in the range of 10-1000 ng/mL were good (r=0.9998, r=0.9991), and the limits of quantitation (LOQ) for GLY and AMPA were 0.37 and 0.81 ng/mL, respectively. The method has been successfully applied for detecting GLY and AMPA in water, soil and monitoring the degradation of GLY under different environmental conditions. Simulated migration characteristics of GLY and AMPA in soil were investigated for evaluating the potential hazards of GLY and AMPA to the ecological environment.

Abstract
Solvent-terminated dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (ST-DLLME) is a special mode of DLLME in which a demulsifying solvent is injected into the cloudy mixture of sample/extractant to break the emulsion and induce phase separation. The demulsification process starts by flocculation of the dispersed microdroplets by Ostwald ripening or coalescence to form larger droplets. Then, the extractant either floats or sinks depending on its density as compared with that for the aqueous sample. The demulsifier should have high surface activity and low surface tension in order to be capable of inducing phase separation. The extraction efficiency in ST-DLLME is controlled by the same experimental variables of normal DLLME (n-DLLME) such as the type and volume of the extractant as well as the disperser. Other parameters such as pH and the temperature of the sample, the stirring rate, the time of extraction and the addition of salt are also important to consider. Along with these factors, the demulsifier type and volume and the demulsification time have to be optimized. By using solvents to terminate the dispersion step in DLLME, the centrifugation process is not necessary. This in turn improves precision, increases throughput, decreases the risk of contamination through human intervention and minimizes the overall analysis time. ST-DLLME has been successfully applied for determination of both inorganic and organic analytes including pesticides and pharmaceuticals in water and biological fluids. Demulsification via solvent injection rather than centrifugation saves energy and makes ST-DLLME easier to automate. These characteristics in addition to the low solvent consumption, the reduced organic waste and the possibility of using water in demulsification bestow green features on ST-DLLME. This tutorial discusses the principle, the practical aspects and the different applications of ST-DLLME.

Abstract
The increasing awareness and public concern with hazard exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals calls for methods capable to handle numerous samples in short analysis time. In this present study, a novel method combining air-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction and liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry was developed and validated for the extraction, preconcentration, and determination of 7 bisphenols (bisphenol A, bisphenol S, bisphenol AP, bisphenol P, bisphenol F, bisphenol AF, bisphenol Z), 7 parabens (methyl-, ethyl-, propyl-, butyl-, benzyl-paraben, methyl-protocatechuic acid, and ethyl-protocatechuic acid), 5 benzophenones (benzophenone-1, benzophenone-2, benzophenone-3, benzophenone-8, and 4-hydroxybenzophenone), and two antimicrobials (triclosan and triclocarban) in human urine samples. Type and volume of solvent, extraction time (cycles), pH sample, ionic strength, agitation, and needle dimensions were evaluated. The matrix-matched calibration curves of all analytes were linear with correlation coefficients higher than 0.99 in the range level of 1.0-20.0 ng mL-1. The relative standard deviation, precision, at three concentrations (1.0, 10.0 and 20.0 ng mL-1) was lower than 15% with accuracy ranging from 90% to 114%. The biomonitoring capability of the new proposed method was confirmed with the analysis of 50 human urine samples randomly collected from Brazilian children. High urinary concentrations of several EDCs associated with usage of personal care products were found.

Abstract
An organic solvent-free method was developed to extract some potentially toxic metals, as complexed with 2-(5-bromo-2-pyridylazo)-5-(diethylamino)phenol, from different real samples prior to their determination by microsampling flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The method, named ionic liquid-based ultrasound-enhanced air-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction (IL-USE-AALLME), is based upon withdrawing and pushing out a mixture of an aqueous sample and an IL (as the extraction solvent) for several times into a conical test tube using a single syringe, placed in an ultrasound bath (as the enhancing mass transfer agent) during the extraction process. Different effective parameters were studied, and at the optimized conditions, limits of detection, linear dynamic ranges, and enrichment factors were ranged from 0.9 to 2.2 μg L(-1), 3.0 to 1023 μg L(-1), and 20 ± 2 to 22 ± 2, respectively. After optimization, the method was successfully applied to determine Pb(2+), Cu(2+), Co(2+), Ni(2+), and Cr(3+) in different biological (hair and nail), vegetable (coriander, parsley, and tarragon), fruit juice (apple, orange, and peach), and water (tap, mineral, and wastewater) samples. The proposed method was compared with two other IL-based and disperser solvent-free methods (i.e., IL-based air-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction and IL-based ultrasound-assisted emulsification microextraction) to demonstrate its performance.

In-syringe reversed dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction for the evaluation of three important bioactive compounds of basil, tarragon and fennel in human plasma and urine samples. J Pharm Biomed Anal 2016; 121:123-134. [PMID: 26802527 DOI: 10.1016/j.jpba.2016.01.003] [Citation(s) in RCA: 14] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.8] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 10/31/2015] [Revised: 12/28/2015] [Accepted: 01/01/2016] [Indexed: 11/24/2022]
Abstract
In the present study, an efficient and environmental friendly method (called in-syringe reversed dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (IS-R-DLLME)) was developed to extract three important components (i.e. para-anisaldehyde, trans-anethole and its isomer estragole) simultaneously in different plant extracts (basil, fennel and tarragon), human plasma and urine samples prior their determination using high-performance liquid chromatography. The importance of choosing these plant extracts as samples is emanating from the dual roles of their bioactive compounds (trans-anethole and estragole), which can alter positively or negatively different cellular processes, and necessity to a simple and efficient method for extraction and sensitive determination of these compounds in the mentioned samples. Under the optimum conditions (including extraction solvent: 120 μL of n-octanol; dispersive solvent: 600 μL of acetone; collecting solvent: 1000 μL of acetone, sample pH 3; with no salt), limits of detection (LODs), linear dynamic ranges (LDRs) and recoveries (R) were 79-81 ng mL(-1), 0.26-6.9 μg mL(-1) and 94.1-99.9%, respectively. The obtained results showed that the IS-R-DLLME was a simple, fast and sensitive method with low level consumption of extraction solvent which provides high recovery under the optimum conditions. The present method was applied to investigate the absorption amounts of the mentioned analytes through the determination of the analytes before (in the plant extracts) and after (in the human plasma and urine samples) the consumption which can determine the toxicity levels of the analytes (on the basis of their dosages) in the extracts.

Abstract
A novel and environmentally friendly ionic-liquid-based hollow-fiber liquid-phase microextraction method combined with a hybrid artificial neural network (ANN)-genetic algorithm (GA) strategy was developed for ferro and ferric ions speciation as model analytes. Different parameters such as type and volume of extraction solvent, amounts of chelating agent, volume and pH of sample, ionic strength, stirring rate, and extraction time were investigated. Much more effective parameters were firstly examined based on one-variable-at-a-time design, and obtained results were used to construct an independent model for each parameter. The models were then applied to achieve the best and minimum numbers of candidate points as inputs for the ANN process. The maximum extraction efficiencies were achieved after 9 min using 22.0 μL of 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([C6MIM][PF6]) as the acceptor phase and 10 mL of sample at pH = 7.0 containing 64.0 μg L(-1) of benzohydroxamic acid (BHA) as the complexing agent, after the GA process. Once optimized, analytical performance of the method was studied in terms of linearity (1.3-316 μg L(-1), R (2) = 0.999), accuracy (recovery = 90.1-92.3%), and precision (relative standard deviation (RSD) <3.1). Finally, the method was successfully applied to speciate the iron species in the environmental and wastewater samples.

Organic solvent-free air-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction for optimized extraction of illegal azo-based dyes and their main metabolite from spices, cosmetics and human bio-fluid samples in one step. J Chromatogr B Analyt Technol Biomed Life Sci 2015; 998-999:15-25. [PMID: 26149246 DOI: 10.1016/j.jchromb.2015.06.016] [Citation(s) in RCA: 38] [Impact Index Per Article: 4.2] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 05/07/2015] [Revised: 06/14/2015] [Accepted: 06/15/2015] [Indexed: 11/21/2022]
Abstract
Air-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction (AALLME) has unique capabilities to develop as an organic solvent-free and one-step microextraction method, applying ionic-liquids as extraction solvent and avoiding centrifugation step. Herein, a novel and simple eco-friendly method, termed one-step air-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction (OS-AALLME), was developed to extract some illegal azo-based dyes (including Sudan I to IV, and Orange G) from food and cosmetic products. A series of experiments were investigated to achieve the most favorable conditions (including extraction solvent: 77μL of 1-Hexyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate; sample pH 6.3, without salt addition; and extraction cycles: 25 during 100s of sonication) using a central composite design strategy. Under these conditions, limits of detection, linear dynamic ranges, enrichment factors and consumptive indices were in the range of 3.9-84.8ngmL(-1), 0.013-3.1μgmL(-1), 33-39, and 0.13-0.15, respectively. The results showed that -as well as its simplicity, fastness, and use of no hazardous disperser and extraction solvents- OS-AALLME is an enough sensitive and efficient method for the extraction of these dyes from complex matrices. After optimization and validation, OS-AALLME was applied to estimate the concentration of 1-amino-2-naphthol in human bio-fluids as a main reductive metabolite of selected dyes. Levels of 1-amino-2-naphthol in plasma and urinary excretion suggested that this compound may be used as a new potential biomarker of these dyes in human body.
