Abstract
Hydrogels are 3D networks with an excellent ability to retain a high amount of water or biological fluids, representing suitable candidates for wound dressing applications. They can provide a protective barrier and a moist environment, facilitating wound treatment. The present paper focuses on physical hydrogels obtained from poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and pullulan (PULL) mixtures in different weight ratios by using the freezing/thawing method. Hybrid hydrogels of similar polymer compositions were prepared in the presence of 0.5% Laponite® RD. The influence of polysaccharide and clay addition on the properties of PVA hydrogels was investigated. Scanning electron microscopy showed evidence of the inner porous structure. The viscoelastic properties were investigated in different shear conditions and revealed the influence of the hydrogel composition on the network strength. The swelling behavior was followed in physiological saline solutions at 37 °C and pH = 7.4. For all samples, a quasi-Fickian diffusion mechanism was found. The delivery of neomycin sulfate was studied in similar conditions as for the swelling tests (0.15 M NaCl solutions; 37 °C; pH = 7.4) and different kinetic models were used to determine the release mechanism. The Peppas-Sahlin approach described very well the in vitro drug release mechanism from the polymeric hydrogels in the absence of clay. However, the hybrid polymer/clay hydrogels showed the best fit with the Korsmeyer-Peppas model. According to the present study, the porous membranes containing 40-60% PULL (in absence of clay) are suitable for the release of therapeutic agents at wound sites in physiological conditions.

A novel and easy-to-construct polymeric l-glutamic acid-modified sensor for urinary 1-hydroxypyrene detection: Human biomonitoring of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons exposure. Talanta 2023; 253:123929. Abstract
1-Hydroxypyrene (1-OHP), a metabolite of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), is a frequently used biomarker for assessing human exposure to PAHs. Therefore, the technology that provides a quick, simple, cost-effective, portable, accurate, precise, and reliable test is still in great demand. To the best of our knowledge, the creation of an electrochemical device based on poly(l-glutamic acid)-modified a screen-printed graphene electrode (poly(L-GA)/SPGE) for 1-OHP detection was described for the first time. The developed sensor was simply and rapidly manufactured via only a single step of electropolymerization. All the concerned parameters and electroanalytical conditions were studied to obtain the best performance of the methodology. Under optimal conditions, the 1-OHP sensing provided a linear range of 1-1000 nM with the limits of detection and quantification of 0.95 and 3.16 nM, respectively. Moreover, this developed sensor was successfully utilized by determining 1-OHP in human urine samples. In comparison with conventional methods, this newly proposed electrochemical methodology might be tremendously valuable for 1-OHP evaluation in environmental and occupational applications, leading to the early detection of illness risk linked to PAHs in the human body.

Abstract
This paper reports new physical hydrogels obtained by the freezing/thawing method. They include pullulan (PULL) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) as polymers, bovine serum albumin (BSA) as protein, and a tripeptide, reduced glutathione (GSH). In addition, a sample containing PULL/PVA and lysozyme was obtained in similar conditions. SEM analysis evidenced the formation of networks with porous structure. The average pore size was found to be between 15.7 μm and 24.5 μm. All samples exhibited viscoelastic behavior typical to networks, the hydrogel strength being influenced by the protein content. Infrared spectroscopy analysis revealed the presence of intermolecular hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic interactions (more pronounced for BSA content between 30% and 70%). The swelling kinetics investigated in buffer solution (pH = 7.4) at 37 °C evidenced a quasi-Fickian diffusion for all samples. The hydrogels were loaded with neomycin trisulfate salt hydrate (taken as a model drug), and the optimum formulations (samples containing 10-30% BSA or 2% lysozyme) proved a sustained drug release over 480 min in simulated physiological conditions. The experimental data were analyzed using different kinetic models in order to investigate the drug release mechanism. Among them, the semi-empirical Korsmeyer-Peppas and Peppas-Sahlin models were suitable to describe in vitro drug release mechanism of neomycin sulfate from the investigated hybrid hydrogels. The structural, viscoelastic, and swelling properties of PULL/PVA/protein hybrid hydrogels are influenced by their composition and preparation conditions, and they represent important factors for in vitro drug release behavior.

Abstract
A simple, rapid, and convenient method for the determination of neomycin based on the ion association method was proposed. In Britton–Robinson buffer solution, neomycin could react with Congo red to form an ionic association, which in turn reacted with dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide to form a ternary ionic association. The three were combined in a 1 : 1 : 1 ratio, which significantly enhanced the resonant Rayleigh scattering intensity at 468 nm. The obtained resonant Rayleigh scattering sensor showed a linear relationship with neomycin in the range of 0.07∼1 μg·mL−1. The limit of detection was 0.02 μg·mL−1, and the limit of quantification was 0.037 μg·mL−1. The experimental conditions were optimized. The method was verified based on the ICH rule. The established method could be applied to the analysis of the acceptable recovery rate of neomycin in powdered veterinary drugs.

Abstract
Development of methods with high selectivity and sensitivity for detection of trace ribavirin (RBV) is of great importance for environmental protection and food safety. Herein, we proposed a simple yet valid strategy to construct the highly selective ratiometric fluorescence sensing platform (BA-LMOFs@MIP) for analysis of RBV based on boric acid-functionalized lanthanide metal-organic framework (BA-LMOFs) coupled with molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP). In this strategy, BA-LMOFs featured with dual-emission and pH-responsive behavior were first synthesized as supporter. Benefiting from boric acid group of BA-LMOFs, RBV was easily immobilized onto its surface, taking advantage of template immobilization-based surface imprinting means to fabricate BA-LMOFs@MIP with dual recognition sites for the first time. The synergistic effect of covalent boronate affinity-based recognition unit and non-covalent imprinting sites enabled BA-LMOFs@MIP to exhibit superior selectivity and binding efficiency to RBV. BA-LMOFs as signal tag endowed BA-LMOFs@MIP with desirable sensitivity, photostability and hydrophilicity. More importantly, BA-LMOFs@MIP-based sensor displayed a wide linear range for RBV from 25 to 1200 ng mL-1 with a detection limit down to 7.62 ng mL-1. The sensor was finally applied to RBV determination in real samples, and the obtained results revealed that BA-LMOFs@MIP would be a promising candidate for monitoring of RBV in complex systems.

Abstract
Antibiotics are widely used in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases in animals due to its bactericidal or bacteriostatic action. Residual antibiotics and their metabolites pose great threats to human and animal health, such as potential carcinogenic and mutagenic effects, and bacterial resistances. Therefore, it is necessary and urgent to accurately monitor trace amounts of antibiotics in food samples. Up to now, many analytical methods have been reported for the determination of antibiotics. Biosensors with the advantages of high sensitivity, rapid response, easy miniaturization, and low price have been widely applied to the detection of antibiotics residues in past decades. This review offered an in-depth evaluation of recognition elements for antibiotic residues in diverse food matrices. In addition, it presented a systematical and critical review on signal amplification via various materials, focusing on recently developed nanomaterials. Finally, the review provided an outlook on the future concepts to help upgrade the sensing techniques for antibiotics in food.

Abstract
Aminoglycosides (AGs) are broad-spectrum antibiotics used in both human infection and animal medicine. The overuse of AGs causes undesirable residues in food, leading to serious health problems due to food chain accumulation. In recent years, various methods have been developed to determine AGs in food. Among these methods, fluorescent (FL), colorimetric and chemiluminescent (CL) optical methods possess advantages such as their simple instrumentation, low cost, simple operation, feasibility of realizing visualization, and smartphone imaging. This mini-review summarizes optical assays for the detection of AGs in food developed in recent years. The detection principles for different categories are discussed. Then, the amplification techniques for the ultrasensitive detection of AGs are introduced. We also discuss multiplex methods for the simultaneous detection of AGs. Finally, the challenges and future prospects are discussed in the Conclusions and Perspectives section.

Abstract
Fluorescent nanoparticles have good chemical stability and photostability, controllable optical properties and larger stokes shift. In light of their designability and functionability, the fluorescent nanoparticles are widely used as the fluorescent probes for diverse applications. To enhance the sensitivity and selectivity, the combination of the fluorescent nanoparticles with the molecularly imprinted polymer, i.e. molecularly imprinted fluorescent nanoparticles (MIFN), was an effective way. The sensor based on MIFN (the MIFN sensor) could be more compatible with the complex sample matrix, which was especially widely adopted in medical and biological analysis. In this mini-review, the construction method, detective mechanism and types of MIFN sensors are elaborated. The current applications of MIFN sensors in pharmaceutical analysis, including pesticides/herbicide, veterinary drugs/drugs residues and human related proteins, are highlighted based on the literature in the recent three years. Finally, the research prospect and development trend of the MIFN sensor are forecasted.

Abstract
The determination of neomycin sulfate was made using photoluminescent amino-functionalized graphene quantum dots (obtained from hydro-exfoliation of a mixture of citric acid and glutathione). From the several ions tested, Fe3+ was the best mediator to enable an off/on photoluminescence effect used for quantification. The mediation of Fe3+ was found to be crucial as it is responsible for the photoluminescence quenching effect, due to the interaction with quantum dots surface, also having large affinity towards neomycin that removes Fe3+ from the surface of GQDs, consequently, promoting restoration of the original nanomaterial photoluminescence. Such signal restoration was proportional to the neomycin sulfate concentration added. The linearized analytical response covered three orders of magnitude (10-7 to 10-5 mol L-1). The proposed method is an alternative to those requiring labor-intensive procedures for chemical the derivatization of neomycin (due to the lack of chromophore groups in aminoglycosides). The method was successfully tested in the analysis of rubella vaccine containing trace residues of neomycin and in pharmaceutical compositions containing neomycin sulfate after solid phase extraction using an aminoglycoside imprinted polymer to improve selectivity in determinations.

Abstract
We report on the development of new optical sensors using molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) combined with different materials and explore the novel strategies followed in order to overcome some of the limitations found during the last decade in terms of performance. This review pretends to offer a general overview, mainly focused on the last 3 years, on how the new fabrication procedures enable the synthesis of hybrid materials enhancing not only the recognition ability of the polymer but the optical signal. Introduction describes MIPs as biomimetic recognition elements, their properties and applications, emphasizing on each step of the fabrication/recognition procedure. The state of the art is presented and the change in the publication trend between electrochemical and optical sensor devices is thoroughly discussed according to the new fabrication and micro/nano-structuring techniques paving the way for a new generation of MIP-based optical sensors. We want to offer the reader a different perspective based on the materials science in contrast to other overviews. Different substrates for anchoring MIPs are considered and distributed in different sections according to the dimensionality and the nature of the composite, highlighting the synergetic effect obtained as a result of merging both materials to achieve the final goal.

Abstract
Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are a type of tailor-made materials that have ability to selectively recognize the target compound/s. MIPs have gained significant research interest in solid-phase extraction, catalysis, and sensor applications due to their unique properties such as low cost, robustness, and high selectivity. In addition, MIPs can be prepared as composite nanomaterials using nanoparticles, multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), nanorods, quantum dots (QDs), graphene, and clays. This review paper aims to demonstrate and highlight the recent progress of the applications of imprinted nanocomposite materials in analytical chemistry.
