Accurate prediction of 11B NMR chemical shift of BODIPYs via machine learning

In this article, we present the results of developing a model based on an RFR machine learning method using the ISIDA fragment descriptors for predicting the ¹¹B NMR chemical shift of BODIPYs. The model is freely available at https://ochem.eu/article/146458. The model demonstrates the high quality of predicting the ¹¹B NMR chemical shift (RMSE, 5CV (FINALE training set) = 0.40 ppm, RMSE (TEST set) = 0.14 ppm). In addition, we compared the "cost" and the user-friendliness for calculations using the quantum-chemical model with the DFT/GIAO approach. The ¹¹B NMR chemical shift prediction accuracy (RMSE) of the model considered is more than three times higher and tremendously faster than the DFT/GIAO calculations. As a result, we provide a convenient tool and database that we collected for all researchers, that allows them to predict the ¹¹B NMR chemical shift of boron-containing dyes. We believe that the new model will make it easier for researchers to correctly interpret the ¹¹B NMR chemical shifts experimentally determined and to select more optimal conditions to perform an NMR experiment.

Stability of Dibromo-Dipyrromethene Complexes Coordinated with B, Zn, and Cd in Solutions of Various Acidities

The spectral luminescent properties of dipyrromethenates halogenated with bromine on both ends of the long axis and coordinated using boron fluoride, zinc, or cadmium in neutral ethanol and acidified with hydrochloric acid solutions were studied. The constants of the acid-base equilibrium of the complexes in the proton-donor solvents in the ground and excited states was determined. The mechanisms of complex protonation were discussed, depending on the structure of the compounds. The electronic structures of the neutral and protonated compounds were modeled and analyzed based on the quantum-chemical method. The structures and spectral-luminescence properties were calculated using the SMD model of ethanol solvent using the TD-DFT theory with the B3LYP functional and the composite def2-SVP/def2-TZVP/def2-TZVPP_ECP basis sets, depending on the atomic number of the elements.

Antioxidant and Organic Dye Removal Potential of Cu-Ni Bimetallic Nanoparticles Synthesized Using Gazania rigens Extract

Copper-nickel bimetallic nanoparticles (Cu-Ni BNPs) were fabricated using an eco-friendly green method of synthesis. An extract of synthesized Gazania rigens was used for the synthesis of BNPs followed by characterization employing different techniques including UV/Vis spectrophotometer, FTIR, XRD, and SEM. Spectrophotometric studies (UV-Vis and FTIR) confirmed the formation of bimetallic nanoparticles. The SEM studies indicated that the particle size ranged from 50 to 100 nm. Analysis of the BNPs by the XRD technique confirmed the presence of both Cu and Ni crystal structure. The synthesized nanoparticles were then tested for their catalytic potential for photoreduction of methylene blue dye in an aqueous medium and DPPH radical scavenging in a methanol medium. The BNPs were found to be efficient in the reduction of methylene blue dye as well as the scavenging of DPPH free radicals such that the MB dye was completely degraded in just 17 min at the maximum absorption of 660 nm. Therefore, it is concluded that Cu-Ni BNPs can be successfully synthesized using Gazania rigens extract with suitable size and potent catalytic and radical scavenging activities.

Luminescent properties of new 2,2-, 2,3- and 3,3-CH2-bis(BODIPY)s dyes: Structural and solvation effects

In this paper the synthesis and spectral properties of three new dimeric bis(BODIPY)s with two indacene domains connected by a methylene (-CH₂-) spacer at 2,2-, 2,3- or 3,3- positions were reported. It was found bis(BODIPY)s exhibit a high sensitivity of fluorescence to the medium properties. To interpret solvatochromic effects of bis(BODIPY)s, a multilinear correlation analysis of bis(BODIPY)s fluorescence quantum yields with respect to solvent different parameters was carried out. To understand the features of the spectral properties of bis(BODIPY)s, we carried out a thorough quantum-chemical analysis of the structural, conformational, and spectral characteristics of bis(BODIPY)s. The obtained bis(BODIPY)s have a high potential for application as sensors of medium polarity.
