Abstract
In the current work, Response Surface Methodology (RSM)-a statistical method-is used to optimize procedures like photocatalysis with the least amount of laboratory testing. However, to determine the most effective model for achieving the maximum rate of removal efficiency, the Response Surface Methodology was employed. The Ba-doped BiFeO3 photocatalyst was synthesized by the co-precipitation method, and its intrinsic properties were investigated by utilizing a range of spectroscopic techniques, such as FESEM, EDX, XRD, FTIR, and UV-vis. Herein, four independent factors such as, pH, contact time, pollutant concentration, and catalyst dosage were chosen. The results revealed that under acidic conditions with a contact duration of 2 min, a moderate catalyst dosage, and higher pollutant concentration, a degradation rate of 89.8% was achieved. The regression coefficient (R2) and probability value (P) were determined to be 0.99551 and 0.0301, respectively, therefore confirming the excellent fit of the RSM model. Furthermore, this research investigated the potential photocatalytic degradation mechanisms of cefixime, demonstrating that the removal efficiency of cefixime is greatly influenced by the functional parameters.

Abstract
The aim of this paper is the green synthesis of copper nanoparticles (Cu NPs) via Quinoa seed extract. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results confirmed the production of the pure crystalline face center cubic system of the Cu NPs with an average crystallite size of 8.41 nm. Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) analysis confirmed the capping and stabilization of the Cu NPs bioreduction process. UV visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis). surface plasmon resonance revealed the absorption peak at 324 nm with an energy bandgap of 3.47 eV. Electrical conductivity was conducted assuring the semiconductor nature of the biosynthesized Cu NPs. Morphological analysis was investigated confirming the nano-characteristic properties of the Cu NPs as polycrystalline cubic agglomerated shapes in scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis also was used to assess the cubic shapes at a particle size of 15.1 ± 8.3 nm and a crystallinity index about equal to 2.0. Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDX) was conducted to investigate the elemental composition of the Cu NPs. As a potential utility of the biosynthesized Cu NPs as nano adsorbents to the removal of the Cefixime (Xim) from the pharmaceutical wastewater; adsorption studies and process parameters were being investigated. The following strategic methodology for maximum Xim removal was conducted to be solution pH 4, Cu NPs dosage 30 mg, Xim concentration 100 mg/L, and absolute temperature 313 K. The maximum monolayer adsorption capacity was 122.9 mg/g according to the Langmuir isothermal model, and the kinetic mechanism was pseudo-second-order. Thermodynamic parameters also were derived as spontaneous chemisorption endothermic processes. Antibacterial activity of the Xim and Xim@Cu NPs was investigated confirming they are highly potent against each Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacterium.

Abstract
The application of the coagulation/flocculation process is very important due to its simplicity in removing turbidity. Due to the disadvantages of using chemical coagulants in water and the lack of sufficient effect of natural materials alone in removing turbidity for proper performance, the simultaneous use of chemical and natural coagulants is the best way to reduce the harmful effects of chemical coagulants in water. In this study, the application of poly aluminum chloride (PAC) as a chemical coagulant and rice starch as a natural coagulant aid to remove turbidity from aqueous solutions was investigated. Effects of the above coagulants on the four main factors, coagulant dose (0-10 mg/L), coagulant adjuvant dose (0-0.1 mg/L), pH (5-9), turbidity (NTU 0-50), and each five levels were assessed using a central composite design (CCD). Under the optimized conditions, the maximum turbidity elimination efficiency was found to be 96.6%. The validity and adequacy of the proposed model (quadratic model) were confirmed by the corresponding statistics (i.e., F-value of 23.3, p-values of 0.0001, and lack of fit of 0.877 for the model, respectively, R2 = 0.88, R2adj. = 0.84, R2 pred = 0.79, AP = 22.04).

Abstract
In this study, a ternary ZnO@spinel cobalt ferrite@carbon nanotube magnetic photocatalyst (ZSCF@CNT) was successfully synthesized and used to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for Cefixime (CFX) antibiotic degradation under UVC irradiation. The morphology, optical, structural, and physicochemical properties of ZSCF@CNT were characterized and analyzed by XPS, XRD, FESEM-EDX, TEM, BET, VSM, UV-vis DRS and PL analysis. The results indicated that the ternary ZSCF@CNT photocatalyst exhibited superior catalytic activity on CFX elimination than that of individual components and binary composite catalysts, in which CFX with was rapidly removed under UVC irradiation and PMS. The effect of operational parameters including initial PMS, catalyst, and CFX concentrations and solution pH on the catalytic activity was investigated in detail; the optimal conditions were: pH: 7.0, catalyst: 0.3 g/L, PMS: 3.0 mM, leading to total CFX (10 mg/L) elimination in ∼20 min. Based on the radical scavenger tests, various radicals and non-radical species including sulfate, hydroxyl and superoxide radicals, singlet oxygen and electrons were involved in the ZSCF@CNT/PMS/UVC system. The high surface area, reduced agglomeration formation and excellent separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs embodied in ZSCF@CNT photocatalyst conferred its superior catalytic activity and stability. The results from the tests in real water matrices revealed that ZSCF@CNT could be a promising photocatalyst to activate PMS for actual aqueous matrices' treatment.

Abstract
The continuous rise in the amount of industrial and pharmaceutical waste in water sources is an alarming concern. Effective strategies should be developed for the treatment of pharmaceutical industrial waste. Hence the alternative renewable source of energy, such as solar energy, should be utilized for a sustainable future. Herein, a series of Au plasmonic nanoparticle decorated ternary photocatalysts comprising graphitic carbon nitride and Ti3C2 MXene has been designed to degrade colourless pharmaceutical pollutants, cefixime under visible light irradiation. These photocatalysts were synthesized by varying the amount of Ti3C2 MXene, and their catalytic potential was explored. The optimized photocatalyst having 3 wt% Ti3C2 MXene achieved 64.69% removal of the pharmaceutical pollutant, cefixime within 105 min of exposure to visible light. The presence of the Au nanoparticles and MXene in the nanocomposite facilitates the excellent charge carrier separation and increased the number of active sites due to the formation of interfacial contact with graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets. Besides, the plasmonic effect of the Au nanoparticles improves the absorption of light causing enhanced photocatalytic performance of the nanocomposite. Based on the obtained results, a plausible mechanism has been formulated to understand the contribution of different components in photocatalytic activity. In addition, the optimized photocatalyst shows excellent activity and can be reused for up to three cycles without any significant loss in its photocatalytic performance. Overall, the current work provides deeper physical insight into the future development of MXene graphitic carbon nitride-based plasmonic ternary photocatalysts.

Abstract
It is widely considered that photocatalysis is an effective and eco-friendly method of dealing with organic pollutants dissolved in water. Nonetheless, photocatalysts still have some drawbacks, such as poor visible-light absorption, easy recombination of photogenerated charge carriers, and limited active sites. In this study, bismuth ferrite coupled with biochar material (BiFeO3/BC) was simply synthesized, and its photocatalysis reactivity was systemically examined under an irradiation of λ > 400 nm. The experimental results showed that under a relatively acidic environment, the removal rate of tetracycline hydrochloride reached 95%. Using a variety of characterization investigations, we analyzed the morphology structure and chemical composition of BiFeO3/BC. In consideration of simple preparation and high respondence toward visible light, further explorations of BiFeO3/BC and its properties and optimized degradation conditions are worthwhile.

Abstract
This work aims to synthesize a photocatalyst with high photocatalytic performances and explore the possibility of using it for antibiotic removal from wastewater. For that, the spinel ZnBi2O4 (ZBO) was produced with the co-precipitation method and its optical, dielectric, and electrochemical characteristics were studied. The phase has been determined and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). For the ZBO morphology, a Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) has been used. Then, the optical and dielectric properties of ZBO have been evaluated by calculating refractive index n (λ), extinction coefficient (k), dissipation factor (tan δ), relaxation time (τ), and optical conductivity (σopt) using the spectral distribution of T(λ) and R(λ). An optical gap band of 2.8 eV was determined and confirmed. The electrochemical performance of ZBO was investigated and an n-type semiconductor with a flat band potential of 0.54 V_SCE was found. The photocatalytic efficiency of ZBO was investigated in order to degrade the antibiotic Cefixime (CFX) under different light source irradiations to exploit the optical properties. A high CFX degradation of approximately 89% was obtained under solar light (98 mW cm−2) only after 30 min, while 88% of CFX degradation efficiency has been reached after 2 h under UV irradiation (20 mW cm−2); this is in line with the finding of the optical characterizations. According to the obtained data, solar light assisted nanoparticle ZBO can be used successfully in wastewater to remove pharmaceutical products.

Abstract
CoBi2O4 (CBO) nanoparticles were synthesized by sol-gel method using polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as a complexing reagent. For a single phase with the spinel structure, the formed gel was dried and calcined at four temperatures stages. Various methods were used to identify and characterize the obtained spinel, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron micrograph (SEM-EDX), transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), Raman, and UV-Vis spectroscopies. The photocatalytic activity of CBO was examined for the degradation of a pharmaceutical product cefixime (CFX). Furthermore, for the prediction of the CFX degradation rate, an artificial neural network model was used. The network was trained using the experimental data obtained at different pH with different CBO doses and initial CFX concentrations. To optimize the network, various algorithms and transfer functions for the hidden layer were tested. By calculating the mean square error (MSE), 13 neurons were found to be the optimal number of neurons and produced the highest coefficient of correlation R2 of 99.6%. The relative significance of the input variables was calculated, and the most impacting input was proved to be the initial CFX concentration. The effects of some scavenging agents were also studied. The results confirmed the dominant role of hydroxyl radical OH• in the degradation process. With the novel CoBi2O4/ZnO hetero-system, the photocatalytic performance has been enhanced, giving an 80% degradation yield of CFX (10 mg/L) at neutral pH in only 3 h.

Abstract
The heterogeneous photocatalysis process has been known to provide significant levels of degradation and mineralization of emerging contaminants including antibiotics. For that, nanoparticle CuCr2O4 (CCO) ceramics were successfully prepared via sol-gel (SG) and co-precipitation (CP) methods to obtain spinel with desired structural features and properties and also to improve the photocatalytic performances. The CCO crystallite phase was produced at 750 °C all ceramics, disregarding the synthesis route. CCO physical and chemical properties were checked by X-ray diffraction (XRD) with Rietveld refinement, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and diffuse reflectance solid (DRS). The XRD patterns demonstrated that the synthesized catalysts displayed a small crystallite size between 17.45 and 26.24 nm for SG and 20.97 and 36.86 nm for the CCOCP samples. The observation by SEM and TEM of the nanopowders showed a typical morphology with comparable particle sizes for both synthesized routes (20-30 nm). SG agglomeration rates were higher, and particles stick together more efficiently considering the CP method, while the CCOCP method led to a more significant porosity. Their photocatalytic and adsorption performances were examined for cefaclor (CFC) removal chosen as a target pharmaceutical contaminant in water. The results obtained by the methods differed since nanoparticles prepared by SG led to high photocatalytic activity. In contrast, a high CFC adsorption was observed for those prepared via the CP method, and that agreed with the findings of the characterization analysis. The kinetics of the adsorption process was found to follow the pseudo-second-order rate law. In contrast, the data of the photodegradation process were further found to comply with the Lagergren kinetic law. Nevertheless, the global reaction rate is probably controlled by the intra-particular diffusion of CFC, regardless of the elimination process.

The degradations of Metronidazole (MTZ) and Cephalexin (CFX) antibiotics by ternary catalyst were investigated in the batch and continuous slurry photoreactor under LED illumination. The ternary heterostructure exhibited a remarkable improvement in photoactivity compared with CuWO4/Bi2S3, and pristine ZIF67. Indeed, higher surface area, photo-stability, bandgap suppressing as well as better charge separation based on the dual Z-scheme structure caused the enhancement. The optimum values of operating parameters were obtained by the central composite design as: catalyst dose = 0.3 g/L, pH = 7, illumination time = 80 min, and 20 ppm initial concentration of antibiotic. The maximum degradation efficiencies by the new ternary heterostructure were 95.6% and 90.1%, respectively for MTZ and CFX at optimum conditions in the continuous flow mode. Maximum total organic carbon (TOC) removal rates were 83.2% and 74% for MTZ and CFX, respectively. The degradations by ternary composite followed the first-order kinetic, by reaction rate of 9 times, 5.5 times, and 4 times higher than that obtained by Bi2S3, ZIF67, and the binary CuWO4/Bi2S3, respectively. The influences of temperature and light intensity were explored, revealing 25 °C and 400 W/m2 as the optimum values. The new ternary heterostructure demonstrated excellent reusability and chemical stability after six cycles. The dominant active species were explored by trapping tests, indicating OH. free radicals as the most primary oxidant.
